    I'm the one-man dev team on a fledgling military history website. One aspect of the site is a catalog of ~1,200 individual battles, including the nations & formations (regiments, divisions, etc) which took part. The formation information (as well as the other battle info) was manually imported from a series of books by a 10-man volunteer team. The formations were listed in groups with varying formatting and abbreviation patterns. At the time I set up the data collection forms I couldn't think of a good way to process that data... and elected to store it all as strings in the MySQL database and sort it out later. Well, "later" - as it tends to happen - has arrived. :-) Each battle has 2+ records in the database - one for each nation that participated. Each record has a formations text string listing the formations present as the volunteer chose to add them. Some real examples: 39th Grenadier Rgmt, 26th Volksgrenadier Division 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, 246th Infantry Division 247th Rifle Division, 255th Tank Brigade 2nd Luftwaffe Field Division, SS Cavalry Division 28th Tank Brigade, 158th Rifle Division, 135th Rifle Division, 81st Tank Brigade, 242nd Tank Brigade 78th Infantry Division 3rd Kure Special Naval Landing Force, Tulagi Seaplane Base personnel 1st Battalion 505th Infantry Regiment The ultimate goal is for each individual force to have an ID, so that its participation can be traced throughout the battle database. Formation hierarchy, such as the final item above 1st Battalion (of the) 505th Infantry Regiment also needs to be preserved. In that case, 1st Battalion and 505th Infantry Regiment would be split, but 1st Battalion would be flagged as belonging to the 505th. In database terms, I think I want to pull the formation field out of the current battle info table and create three new tables: FORMATION [id] [name] FORMATION_HIERARCHY [id] [parent] [child] FORMATION_BATTLE [f_id] [battle_id] It's simple to explain, but complicated to enact. What I'm looking for from the SO community is just some tips on how best to tackle this problem. Ideally there's some sort of method to solving this that I'm not aware of. However, as a last resort, I could always code a classification framework and call my volunteers back to sort through 2,500+ records...

  • Edit Contact code worked in 1.6 but doesn't work on Droid 2.1?

    Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid.   • Sql server 2000 replication error

    Good morning, I have a sql server 2000 machine, with SP4. I have a transactional replication. A keep receving this error message: The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on 'servername' the logreader stops responding.When i click start it starts fine, and the replication starts fine.And then, works for hours, and the problem comes back. In the begining i though it could be timeouts, but i already set a couple of parameters in the logreader profile,like querytimeout/readbatchsize. Sometimes when the logreader stops,it generates a dump, but not always. In event viewer, it appears this message: 17066 : SQL Server Assertion: File: , line=1985 Failed Assertion = 'startLSN = m_curLSN'. 18052 : Error: 3624, Severity: 20, State: 1. 17066 : SQL Server Assertion: File: , line=2223 Failed Assertion = 'm_noOfScAlloc == 0'.     Basically I've got the below schema and I'm inserting records if they don't exists. However when it comes to inserting a duplicate it throws and error as I would expect. My question is whether there is an easy way to make Hibernate to just ignore inserts which would in effect insert duplicates?   • Not showing error when calling another function in Spring

    Hello, I have a controller with 2 methods. The first one just add some lists to the model (the lists of my comboboxes) and return a JSP with a form. The second one validates the data and if there aren't errors it saves the data. The code looks like this: public String showForm(Model model){ //load some data into some lists return "tiles:myJSPfile"; } public String save(@Valid @ModelAttribute("MyData") Data data, BindingResult result, Model model){ if(result.hasErrors()){ //there are errors: show form with error messages //(but I need to reload the combobox lists) return showForm(model); } //save data } The problem is that in this way I don't see the error messages in the form (though I see by the debugger that it has found errors). I've thought that the problem comes because the showForm method doesn't have the error messages because it can't see the BindingResult, so I've added BindingResult as a parameter of showForm method, but it still doesn't work. I've added My Model Attribute as well but I get the same problem. If I just return the JSP file in the save method I can see the errors, but in this way I would need to add again in this other method the lists I had already added in the showForm (duplicated code). I can't save the data in session scope so it's compulsory to get again the lists after getting the error. if(result.hasErrors()){ //there are errors: show form with error messages return "tiles:myJSPfile"; } Why are errors not shown when I call a function to display my JSP different from the one I used for the validation? Im trying to use mysqldump like below: mysqldump -hlocalhost -uadmin -padmin shop> D:\b2\shop3.sql When i execute it in command prompt, the file shop3 is generated with all the tables from the shop database.     I started getting the following error today, but don't know why and what caused it. [31-May-2010 03:52:10] PHP Fatal error: Cannot run code from this file in conjunction with non encoded files in ZendFramework-1.10.5/library/Zend/Validate/Hostname/Com.php on line 547 I'm using zend framework version 1.10.5; although version 1.09 also has the same problem. I only get this error in my production server, and cannot duplicate it from anywhere else. Also note that I only get this error when I submit form with recaptcha. If I remove recaptcha, it works fine. Any help is appreciated.

  • Google App Engine Needs Index Error

    I am currently getting a needs index error on my app engine app: http://www.gaiagps.com/wiki/home. I believe this index should have been created automatically by my index.yaml file (see below). Googling a bit, I think I just need to wait for my index to be built. Is this correct, or do I need to do something manually? Is there some sort of index-building queue? My tables are very, very small right now. EDIT: I added the line "indexes:" to my app.yaml, and now app engine reports the index is building, so I think this is fixed.     Hi, I managed to setup a SVN (over SSL) server and TortoiseSVN client on Win. I made a Post-Commit Hook for test project. The Post-Commit will update the web dir so the App in PHP can be executed with the newest version. It all works when done over shell. The only problem is, when i commit the changes over the client in Win the change is commited but HOOK throws error post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with output: Error validating server certificate for 'https://SERVER_IP:443': - The certificate is not issued by a trusted authority.   • How do determine what is *really* causing your compiler error

    Hi All, I am porting a very large code base and I am having more difficulty with old code. For example, this causes a compiler error: inline CP_M_ReferenceCounted * FrAssignRef(CP_M_ReferenceCounted * & to, CP_M_ReferenceCounted * from) { if (from) from->AddReference(); if (to) to->RemoveReference(); to = from; return to; } The error is: error: expected initializer before '*' token. How do I know what this is. I looked up inline member functions to be sure I understood and I dont think the inlining is the cause but I am not sure what is. Another example: template <class eachClass> eachClass FrReferenceIfClass(FxRC * ptr) { eachClass getObject = dynamic_cast<eachClass>(ptr); if (getObject) getObject->AddReference(); return getObject; } The error is: error: template declaration of 'eachClass FrReferenceIfClass' That is all. How do I decide what this is?. I am admittedly rusty with templates.

    I have been googeling for days! I have a cert from rapidssl. I read up that the problem with num=20, is that indicates it doesn't know the issuer, or doesn't know the ROOT Cert, right? I run this command: openssl s_client -showcerts -connect smtp.server.com:465 I get this error: verify error:num=19:self signed certificate in certificate chain Here is what i have in my postfix main.cf, and what i have done: smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/postfix/ssl/smtp.server.com.rsa.key (this is the private key) smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/postfix/ssl/smtp.server.com.PUBLIC.key (this is the public key given to me by rapidssl) smtpd_tls_CAfile = /etc/postfix/ssl/combo.csr.key This key has both the intermediate keys ON TOP, and the ROOT KEY on the bottom.     I am getting a BSOD Error when Running Windows Phone 7.1 Emulator on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Each time I run the Emulator, it Results in Blue Screen. This is a Fresh Install, This Error also Occurred with my last Windows Install (That is why I formatted the Windows Again), I have already Tried to Re-install it, it also shows "Windows Phone Emulator is Doing a Complete OS boot" (Even at Fresh Install, I know it happens when using Unlocked Emulator Images). I am not able to Test any of my app. Please Help !! EDIT: I am not Running a VM, it is on a Physical Machine.

    I just had trouble running VMWare player (version 3.1.0 build-261024) on Win 7 and got this error: Error while powering on: The following error occurred when starting VMware Player.W32AuthConnectionLaunch: Reply error "The system cannot find the file "" (code: 3).". I Googled the error and turns out the fix is to run VMWare Player as Administrator.
