  • template expressions and visual studio 2005 c++

    - by chris
I'd like to build the olb3d library with my visual studio 2005 compiler but this failes due to template errors. To be more specific, the following expression seem to be a problem: void function(T u[Lattice::d]) On the website of the project is stated that prpably my compiler is not capable of such complicated template expressions - one should use the gcc 3.4.1. My question is now if there is a way to upgrade my vs c++ compiler so it can handle template expressions on the level as the gcc 3.4.1? Maybe it helps if I get a newer version of visual studio? Cheers C.

  • Options for open source front end for C++

    - by Arpan
I am looking for options for an open source C++ front end that I could customize for my requirements. I do not need the back end implementation, just that it would help to find a fast and relatively bug free C++ front end that supports most standard features. Any suggestions? [I did google, clang seems to be an option but I don't have any experience with llvm] Arpan

  • What are the implications of using static const instead of #define?

    - by Simon Elliott
gcc complains about this: #include <stdio.h> static const int YY = 1024; extern int main(int argc, char*argv[]) { static char x[YY]; } $ gcc -c test1.c test1.c: In function main': test1.c:5: error: storage size of x' isn't constant test1.c:5: error: size of variable `x' is too large Remove the “static” from the definition of x and all is well. I'm not exactly clear what's going on here: surely YY is constant? I had always assumed that the "static const" approach was preferable to "#define". Is there any way of using "static const" in this situation?

  • Postgresql error: could not open segment 1 of relation base/20983/2416

    - by kokonut
I'm running a Postgresql query and getting the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (PGError: ERROR: could not open segment 1 of relation base/20983/24161 (target block 5046584): No such file or directory The query is of the format 'SELECT "locations".* FROM "locations" WHERE ("locations"."id" IN (115990, 78330, 77891, 78248, ...)' with about 600 ids in the IN clause - not an optimal query I know but it's what I have to work with for the moment! The server is running PostgreSQL 8.4.6 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, compiled by GCC gcc-4.4.real (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu9) 4.4.1, 64-bit. Postgis 1.5 is also installed, and the locations table contains a geometry column. Anyone have any idea what could be causing the error? Thanks!

  • Specializing a template member function of a template class?

    - by uj2
I have a template class that has a template member function that needs to be specialized, as in: template <typename T> class X { public: template <typename U> void Y() {} template <> void Y<int>() {} }; Altough VC handles this correctly, apperantly this isn't standard and GCC complains: explicit specialization in non-namespace scope 'class X<T>' I tried: template <typename T> class X { public: template <typename U> void Y() {} }; template <typename T> // Also tried `template<>` here void X<T>::Y<int>() {} But this causes both VC and GCC to complain. What's the right way to do this?

  • About using assembly with c

    - by kristus
    Hi. I've sort of just finished a mandatory task at school, and I'm about to deliver it. But then I came across something that was unfamiliar, header files. :( What I've got: test-program.c task_header.h function1.s function2.s function3.s function4.s test-program.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include "task_header.h" . .. ... task_header.h: extern void function1(...); extern void function2(...); extern int function3(...); extern void function4(...); And then I use the command: gcc -m32 -o runtest test-program.c function1.s function2.s function3.s function4.s Is this a proper way to do it, or is it possible to modify it? So I can type: gcc -m32 -o runtest test-program.c ?

  • why it is up to the compiler to decide what value to assign when assigning an out-of-range value to

    - by Allopen
in C++ Primer 4th edition 2.1.1, it says "when assigning an out-of-range value to a signed type, it is up to the compiler to decide what value to assign". I can't understand it. I mean, if you have code like "char 5 = 299", certainly the compiler will generate asm code like "mov BYTE PTR _sc$[ebp], 43"(VC) or "movb $43, -2(%ebp)"(gcc+mingw), it IS decided by the compiler. but what if we assign a value that is given by the user input? like, via command line? and the asm code generated will be "movb %al, -1(%ebp)"(gcc+mingw) and " mov cl, BYTE PTR _i$[ebp] mov BYTE PTR _sc$[ebp], cl "(VC), so now how can compiler decide what will happen? I think now it is decided by the CPU. Can you give me a clear explanation?

  • Has anyone ever had OpenCV to work with Python on MacOS?

    - by ?????
I've been trying on and off for the past 6 months to get OpenCV to work with Python on MacOS. Every time there's a new release, I try again and fail. I've tried both 64-bit and 32-bit, and both the xcode gcc and gcc installed via macports. I just spend the past two days on it, hopeful that the latest OpenCV release, that appears to include Python support directly would work. It doesn't. I've also tried and failed to use this: http://code.google.com/p/pyopencv/ I've been using OpenCV with C++ or Microsoft C++/CLI for the past few years, but I'd love to use it with Python on a Mac because that is my primary development environment. I'd love to hear from anyone who's actually done this.

  • Using PHP's exec() function (or the likes), how can you display terminal error output?

    - by Miciah Amberong
Previous Reference I am just wondering if there's a way (using PHP) to output the compile error information from the terminal to the browser? For example: If you use this code to execute in the terminal... gcc -o try try.c ...and assuming the "try.c" have some errors. The terminal will output something like this: try.c In function 'main': try.c:27 'x' undeclared (first use in this function) try.c:27 (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once try.c:27 for each function it appears in.) Meanwhile, using this PHP code... <?php exec("gcc -o try try.c"); ?> The browser does not return any output like the terminal does. Is there a possible way direct or indirect that the error details that the terminal showed can be passed to the be displayed on a browser? Thank you very much.

  • Is it a header file or library? in a makefile

    - by gccinac
I already know the differences between a header file and a library. However, when I'm writing my makefile, I have some difficulties on deciding if I should put something as a dependency of the file or just at the linking rule. For example: I have 2 simple files: main.c: #include <stdio.h> main(){ printf("this is the sine or 90"); sinus(90); } and func.c: #include <math.h> sinus(int num){ return sin(num); } and my makefile is: main: main.o func.o gcc main.o func.o -lm -o main func.o: func.c main.o: main.c Well, my question is why this makefile works and this one doesn't: main: main.o func.o gcc main.o func.o -lm -o main func.o: func.c math.h main.o: main.c

  • Typechecking macro arguments in C

    - by Rocketmagnet
Hi all, Is is possible to typecheck arguments to a #define macro? For example: typedef enum { REG16_A, REG16_B, REG16_C }REG16; #define read_16(reg16) read_register_16u(reg16); \ assert(typeof(reg16)==typeof(REG16)); The above code doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong? BTW, I am using gcc, and I can guarantee that I will always be using gcc in this project. The code does not need to be portable.

  • An array of structures in C...

    - by 00010000
    For the life of me I can't figure out the proper syntax for creating an array of structures in C. I tried this: struct foo { int x; int y; } foo[][] = { { { 1, 2 }, { 4, 5 }, { -1, -1 } }, { { 55, 44 } { 100, 200 }, } }; So for example foo[1][0].x == 100, foo[0][1].y == 5, etc. But GCC spits out a lot of errors. If anyone could provide the proper syntax that'd be great. EDIT: Okay, I tried this: struct foo { const char *x; int y; }; struct foo bar[2][] = { { { "A", 1 }, { "B", 2 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "AA", 11 }, { "BB", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "ZZ", 11 }, { "YY", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, { { "XX", 11 }, { "UU", 22 }, { NULL, -1 }, }, }; But GCC gives me "elements of array bar have incomplete type" and "excess elements in array initializer".

  • How to use more than 3 virtual disks in Linux using CentOS and XenServer

    - by 010110110101
I've attached 5 virtual disks to a Virtual Machine in Citrix XenServer. The VM has the xs-tools installed. Initially it said that it couldn't add so many disks. After I installed the xs-tools, it let me add all the disks. But /dev doesn't show all the disks. It shows these: /dev/xvda /dev/xvdb /dev/xvdc /dev/cdrom Perhaps it is bound by the limits of an IDE bus? (3 disks + CD-ROM) If so, how does one change the VM to use SCSI? Edit: According to the documentation: 2.6.3. VM Block Devices In the PV Linux case, block devices are passed through as PV devices. XenServer does not attempt to emulate SCSI or IDE, but instead provides a more suitable interface in the virtual environment in the form of xvd* devices. It is also possible to get an sd* device using the same mechanism, where the PV driver inside the VM takes over the SCSI device namespace. This is not desirable so it is best to use xvd* where possible for PV guests (this is the default for Debian and RHEL). For Windows or other fully virtualized guests, XenServer emulates an IDE bus in the form of an hd* device. When using Windows, installing the Citrix Tools for Virtual Machines installs a special PV driver that works in a similar way to Linux, except in the fully virtualized environment. Still, with 5 virtual disks attached, I don't see the other xvd devices. • Port Compiler Options (8 replies)

I currently own a license for Crossworks for ARM and would like to compile the port using it. With the code for the CLR now available, is it possible to compile the port with any ARM compiler or are we still restricted to the Keil ARM gcc compilers?

  • No C++ option after install Eclipse CDT

    - by Muhammad Khan
I used terminal to install eclipse with jdk7, and now I want incorporate c/c++ development, so I installed a compiler (gcc 4.7) and and eclipse cdt plugin from the terminal: sudo apt-get install eclipse-cdt But when I restarted eclipse and tried to change the perspective, there was no c++ option I cannot even create a new c++ project. Someone suggested that I do "Install New Software" and choose the cdt from the hard drive. If this is what I should do, where does terminal install its files to?

  • How do I install root-cern?

    - by Rick Turd
Cern's ROOT environment installs fine on 10.10, and is even available in the Software Center, but it will not install or compile on Natty because the x11 directories are in new locations. I can redefine the paths, but then I get compile errors because only gcc 4.3 is supported through ROOT and Natty uses 4.5. I've given up and gone back to 10.10, but my question is, after installing ROOT on Maverick, if I upgrade back to Natty, will my old software still work with these new directory paths?

  • is Microsoft LC random generator patented?

    - by user396672
I need a very simple pseudo random generator (no any specific quality requirements) and I found Microsoft's variant of LCG algorithm used for rand() C runtime library function fit my needs (gcc's one seems too complex). I found the algorithm here: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Linear_congruential_generator#C However, I worry the algorithm (including its "magic numbers" i.e coefficients) may by patented or restricted for use in some another way. Is it allowed to use this algorithm without any licence or patent restrictions or not? I can't use library rand() because I need my results to be exactly reproducible on different platforms

  • Storing deb packages on local media

    - by Saeid87
Is there a way to store deb packages (all or a specific version of package) on a local media (dvd, usb etc...) so later I would be able to install those packages on a PC which does not have Internet connection? For example, these are the packages that I want to install on a PC which doesn't have Internet connection: # TinyOS MSP430 GCC Compiler Repository # Version 4.6.3 deb http://tinyprod.net/repos/debian squeeze main deb http://tinyprod.net/repos/debian msp430-46 main # TinyOS version 2.1.2 deb http://tinyos.stanford.edu/tinyos/dists/ubuntu lucid main

  • C++11 Tidbits: Decltype (Part 2, trailing return type)

    - by Paolo Carlini
Following on from last tidbit showing how the decltype operator essentially queries the type of an expression, the second part of this overview discusses how decltype can be syntactically combined with auto (itself the subject of the March 2010 tidbit). This combination can be used to specify trailing return types, also known informally as "late specified return types". Leaving aside the technical jargon, a simple example from section 8.3.5 of the C++11 standard usefully introduces this month's topic. Let's consider a template function like: template <class T, class U> ??? foo(T t, U u) { return t + u; } The question is: what should replace the question marks? The problem is that we are dealing with a template, thus we don't know at the outset the types of T and U. Even if they were restricted to be arithmetic builtin types, non-trivial rules in C++ relate the type of the sum to the types of T and U. In the past - in the GNU C++ runtime library too - programmers used to address these situations by way of rather ugly tricks involving __typeof__ which now, with decltype, could be rewritten as: template <class T, class U> decltype((*(T*)0) + (*(U*)0)) foo(T t, U u) { return t + u; } Of course the latter is guaranteed to work only for builtin arithmetic types, eg, '0' must make sense. In short: it's a hack. On the other hand, in C++11 you can use auto: template <class T, class U> auto foo(T t, U u) -> decltype(t + u) { return t + u; } This is much better. It's generic and a construct fully supported by the language. Finally, let's see a real-life example directly taken from the C++11 runtime library as implemented in GCC: template<typename _IteratorL, typename _IteratorR> inline auto operator-(const reverse_iterator<_IteratorL>& __x, const reverse_iterator<_IteratorR>& __y) -> decltype(__y.base() - __x.base()) { return __y.base() - __x.base(); } By now it should appear be completely straightforward. The availability of trailing return types in C++11 allowed fixing a real bug in the C++98 implementation of this operator (and many similar ones). In GCC, C++98 mode, this operator is: template<typename _IteratorL, typename _IteratorR> inline typename reverse_iterator<_IteratorL>::difference_type operator-(const reverse_iterator<_IteratorL>& __x, const reverse_iterator<_IteratorR>& __y) { return __y.base() - __x.base(); } This was guaranteed to work well with heterogeneous reverse_iterator types only if difference_type was the same for both types.

After exhausting many resources, time, interviews etc, I cannot seem to find the correct programming talent for our company. Any other resources you suggest besides Dice, Linkedin, Craigslist, University Job Boards, Poaching techniques....its been months now! Specifically, we designed proprietary data-manipulation and data-gathering technology, and are looking for skilled programmers requiring skills of PHP5/MySQL, Javascript/HTML/CSS , cross-browser compatibility/optimization, web interface development, familiarity with source control (SVN or GIT), any L/AMP stack, and/or related application protocols, GCC-supported languages, Zend Framework and/or jQuery.
