  • How to convert string to integer?

    - by user1260584
So I'm having a hard time with my situation and need some advice. I'm trying to convert my two Strings that I have into integers, so that I can use them in math equations. Here is what I tried, however it brings me an error in the app. ' equals.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View arg0) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub num1 = edit.getText().toString(); num2 = edit.getText().toString(); int first = Integer.parseInt(num1); int second = Integer.parseInt(num2); edit.setText(first + second); } }); Is there something that I am doing wrong? Thank you for any help. EDIT: Yes this is Java. num1 and num2 are strings that I have previously named. What do you mean by trim?

  • assigning a string to another string

    - by user1509676
Why this code is not running? Why str1 is not assigned to str2 ?? I know i have an option of using strcpy but i wish to know the reason why this is not working?? #include<stdio.h> int main() { char str1[]="hello"; char str2[10]; str2=str1; printf("%s",str2); return 0; } Whereas if I use pointers than it works like here.. #include<stdio.h> int main() ( char *s="good morning"; char *q; q=s; while(*q!='\0') { printf("%c",*q); q++; } return 0; } This works. Now the string has been copied via pointers so why such difference??

  • Help me with query string parameters (Rails)

    - by Martin Petrov
Hi, I'm creating a newsletter. Each email contains a link for editing your subscription: <%= edit_user_url(@user, :secret => @user.created_at.to_i) %> :secret = @user.created_at.to_i prevents users from editing each others profiles. def edit @user = user.find(params[:id]) if params[:secret] == @user.created_at.to_i render 'edit' else redirect_to root_path end end It doesn't work - you're always redirected to root_path. It works if I modify it like this: def edit @user = user.find(params[:id]) if params[:secret] == "1293894219" ... 1293894219 is the "created_at.to_i" for a particular user. Do you have any ideas why?

  • good practice for string.partition in python

    - by user1544915
some case i write code like these: a,temp,b = s.partition('-') i just need to pick the first and 3rd element. temp would never be used. is there a better way to do this? the common case is ,a better way to pick separted element to make a new list? for example i want to make a new list use old list 0,1,3,7 element code would be this: newlist = [oldlist[0],oldlist[1],oldlist[3],oldlist[7]] it's pretty ugly, isn't it?

  • storing user input into string array in C

    - by Jcmoney1010
I'm writing a program that is supposed to take in a list of names from the user, store them in an array, and then search through the list to check and see if the next name the user enters is part of the original list of names. The issue I'm having is that when I go to enter a list of names, it only saves the last name entered into the list. I've searched the web and this site for similar issues, but I can't seem to find anything that answers this issue specifically. Here is the part of code where I have problem void initialize(char names[][],const int MAX_NAMES,const int MAX_NAMELENGTH) { int i,Number_entrys; printf("How many names would you like to enter to the list?"); scanf("%d",&Number_entrys); if(Number_entrys>MAX_NAMES){ printf("Please choose a smaller entry"); }else{ for (i=0; i<Number_entrys;i++){ scanf("%s",names); } } printf("%s",names); } trying very hard to teach myself, so be gentle lol.

  • ASP.Net How to enforce the HTTP get URL format?

    - by Hamish Grubijan
[Sorry about a messy question. I believe I am targeting .Net 2.0 (for now)] Hi, I am an ASP.NET noob. For starters I am building a page that parses a URL string and populates a table in a database. I want that string to be strictly of the form: http://<server>:<port>/PageName.aspx?A=1&B=2&C=3&D=4&E=5 The order of the arguments do not matter, I just do not want any of them missing, or any extras. Here is what I tried (yes, it is ugly; I just want to get it to work first): #if (DEBUG) // Maps parameter names to their human readable names. // Used for error checking. private static Dictionary<string, string> paramNameToDisplayName = new Dictionary<string, string> { { A, "a"}, { B, "b"}, { C, "c"}, { D, "d"}, { E, "e"}, { F, "f"}, }; [Conditional("DEBUG")] private void validateRequestParameters(HttpRequest request) { bool endResponse = false; // Use foreach var foreach (string expectedParameterName in paramNameToDisplayName.Keys) { if (request[expectedParameterName] == null) { Response.Write(String.Format("No parameter \"{0}\", aka {1} was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie.", expectedParameterName, paramNameToDisplayName[expectedParameterName])); endResponse = true; } } // Use foreach var foreach (string actualParameterName in request.Params) { if (!paramNameToDisplayName.ContainsKey(actualParameterName)) { Response.Write(String.Format("The parameter \"{0}\", was passed to the configuration generator, but it was not expected. Check your URL string / cookie.", actualParameterName)); endResponse = true; } } if (endResponse) { Response.End(); } } #endif and it works ok, except that it complains about all sorts of other stuff: http://localhost:1796/AddStatusUpdate.aspx?X=0 No parameter "A", aka a was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie. No parameter "B", aka b was passed to the configuration generator. Check your URL string / cookie. No parameter "C", aka c was passed to the configuration generator. Thanks!

  • Rewriting An URL With Regular Expression Substitution in Routes

    - by Sean M
In my Pylons app, some content is located at URLs that look like http://mysite/data/31415. Users can go to that URL directly, or search for "31415" via the search page. My constraints, however, mean that http://mysite/data/000031415 should go to the same page as the above, as should searches for "0000000000031415." Can I strip leading zeroes from that string in Routes itself, or do I need to do that substitution in the controller file? If it's possible to do it in routing.py, I'd rather do it there - but I can't quite figure it out from the documentation that I'm reading.

  • "string" != "string"

    - by Misiur
Hi. I'm doing some kind of own templates system. I want to change <title>{site('title')}</title> Into function "site" execution with parameter "title". Here's private function replaceFunc($subject) { foreach($this->func as $t) { $args = explode(", ", preg_replace('/\{'.$t.'\(\'([a-zA-Z,]+)\'\)\}/', '$1', $subject)); $subject = preg_replace('/\{'.$t.'\([a-zA-Z,\']+\)\}/', call_user_func_array($t, $args), $subject); } return $subject; } Here's site: function site($what) { global $db; $s = $db->askSingle("SELECT * FROM ".DB_PREFIX."config"); switch($what) { case 'title': return 'Title of page'; break; case 'version': return $s->version; break; case 'themeDir': return 'lolmao'; break; default: return false; } } I've tried to compare $what (which is for this case "title") with "title". MD5 are different. strcmp gives -1, "==", and "===" return false. What is wrong? ($what type is string. You can't change call_user_func_array into call_user_func, because later I'll be using multiple arguments)

  • Dreamweaver regular expression substitution followed by number

    - by mark
Hi. I'm using Dreamweaver to update copyright dates across my site. I want to preserve the existing spacing (or lack thereof) between years. Examples: © 2002-2008 should update to © 2002-2009 © 2003 - 2008 should update to © 2003 - 2009 This is the regular expression I'm using to accomplish this in Dreamweaver's find & replace function Find: ©\s*(\d{4}\s*-\s*)\d{3}[^9] Replace: © $1 2009 Here's the PROBLEM: This expression works, but has that that extra space between the hyphen and 2009. If I write the replace expression without the space, as © $12009 then dreamweaver looks for the 12,009th substitution in the find expression, and, not finding one, prints $12009. Any ideas?

  • Zend_Form and Liskov Substitution Principle

    - by blockhead
A very common pattern I see (I'm picking on Zend Framework, only because I was dealing with it at the moment of this question), is something like this: class My_Form extends Zend_Form { public function init() { $this->addElement(); } } Zend_Form is not an abstract class, but is perfectly usable on its own. This seems to be "recommended" as place to "encapsulate" your forms into a nice class. Does this violate the Liskov Substitution Principle? Each subclass of Zend_Form will have a wildy different behavior than the base class. Would it be better to use composition for this, or am I totally misunderstanding this principle?

  • cannot convert from string to system.windows.forms.string iwin32window

  • Sed substitution not doing what I want and think it should do

    - by nategoose
I have am trying to use sed to get some info that is encoded within the path of a file which is passed as a parameter to my script (Bourne sh, if it matters). From this example path, I'd like the result to be 8 PATH=/foo/bar/baz/1-1.8/sing/song I first got the regex close by using sed as grep: echo $PATH | sed -n -e "/^.*\/1-1\.\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/p" This properly recognized the string, so I edited it to make a substitution out of it: echo $PATH | sed -n -e "s/^.*\/1-1\.\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/\1/" But this doesn't produce any output. I know I'm just not seeing something simple, but would really appreciate any ideas about what I'm doing wrong or about other ways to debug sed regular expressions.

  • JAVA : How to get the positions of all matches in a String?

    - by user692704
I have a text document and a query (the query could be more than one word). I want to find the position of all occurrences of the query in the document. I thought of the documentText.indexOf(query) and using regular expression but I could not make it work. I end up with the following method: First, I have create a dataType called QueryOccurrence public class QueryOccurrence implements Serializable{ public QueryOccurrence(){} private int start; private int end; public QueryOccurrence(int nameStart, int nameEnd,String nameText){ start=nameStart; end=nameEnd; } public int getStart(){ return start; } public int getEnd(){ return end; } public void SetStart(int i){ start=i; } public void SetEnd(int i){ end=i; } } Then, I have used this datatype in the following method: public static List<QueryOccurrence>FindQueryPositions(String documentText, String query){ // Normalize do the following: lower case, trim, and remove punctuation String normalizedQuery = Normalize.Normalize(query); String normalizedDocument = Normalize.Normalize(documentText); String[] documentWords = normalizedDocument.split(" ");; String[] queryArray = normalizedQuery.split(" "); List<QueryOccurrence> foundQueries = new ArrayList(); QueryOccurrence foundQuery = new QueryOccurrence(); int index = 0; for (String word : documentWords) { if (word.equals(queryArray[0])){ foundQuery.SetStart(index); } if (word.equals(queryArray[queryArray.length-1])){ foundQuery.SetEnd(index); if((foundQuery.End()-foundQuery.Start())+1==queryArray.length){ //add the found query to the list foundQueries.add(foundQuery); //flush the foundQuery variable to use it again foundQuery= new QueryOccurrence(); } } index++; } return foundQueries; } This method return a list of all occurrence of the query in the document each one with its position. Could you suggest any easer and faster way to accomplish this task. Thanks

  • the font of xubuntu

    - by ubuntu
    HI: How to set the default font for different language in the xubuntu? For example, I am using xubuntu9.10(English release),and I do not like the default English and Chinese font. I have tried to use "Application-setting-appearance-fonts" to edit the default font,however it just work for the English. The default font of Chinese is "WenQuanYi Zen Hei". I do not like it. I want to use "Microsoft YaHei", I copy this file from my Win7 system. And I tried remove the "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" by "sudo aptitude remove ttf-wqy",it show me it is successfully removed. Also I have modify the file: /etc/fonts/conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf to: <fontconfig> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>serif</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>Bitstream Vera Serif</string> <string>DejaVu Serif</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>sans-serif</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Bitstream Vera Sans</string> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>DejaVu Sans</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> <match target="pattern"> <test qual="any" name="family"> <string>monospace</string> </test> <edit name="family" mode="prepend" binding="strong"> <string>Bitstream Vera Sans Mono</string> <string>Microsoft YaHei</string> <string>DejaVu Sans Mono</string> <string>AR PL UMing CN</string> <string>AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni</string> <string>AR PL UKai CN</string> <string>AR PL ZenKai Uni</string> </edit> </match> </fontconfig> However when I use the firefox, I found the title of the firefox window is not YaHei. • preg_match to match an optional string, but not match all of the string

    - by buggedcom
    Take for example the following regex match. preg_match('!^publisher/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]{4})-(january|february|march|april|may|june|july|august|september|october|november|december):([0-9]{1,2})-([0-9]{1,2})/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)(/page-[0-9]+)?$!', 'publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1', $matches); print_r($matches); It produces the following: Array ( [0] => publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1 [1] => news [2] => 1 [3] => 2010 [4] => march [5] => 03 [6] => 23 [7] => test_title [8] => 1 [9] => /page-1 ) However as the last match is optional it can also work with matching the following "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1". My problem is that I want to be able to match (/page-[0-9]+) if it exists, but match only the page number so "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1" would match like so: Array ( [0] => publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/page-1 [1] => news [2] => 1 [3] => 2010 [4] => march [5] => 03 [6] => 23 [7] => test_title [8] => 1 [9] => 1 ) I've tried the following regex '!^publisher/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]{4})-(january|february|march|april|may|june|july|august|september|october|november|december):([0-9]{1,2})-([0-9]{1,2})/([A-Za-z0-9\-\_]+)/([0-9]+)/?p?a?g?e?-?([0-9]+)?$!' This works, however it will also match "publisher/news/1/2010-march:03-23/test_title/1/1". I have no idea to perform a match but not have it come back in the matches? Is it possible in a single regex?

  • Extract string from string using Regex

    - by stacker
I want to extract MasterPage value directive from a view page. I want the fastest way to do that, taking into account a very big aspx pages, and a very small ones. I think the best way is to do that with two stages: Extract the page directive section from the view (using Regex): <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> Then, extract the value inside MasterPageFile attribute. The result needs to be: ~/Views/Shared/Site.Master. Can I have help from someone to implement this? I badly want to use only regex, but I don't Regex expert. Another thing, Do you think that Regex is the fastest way to do this?
