• How to upload a file with watir and IE?

  I am writing a watir script to test an upload form. But the script does not automatically choose the file that is to be uploaded from my harddrive. Instead IE stops with the file chooser dialog open. As soon as I manually select the to be uploaded file in the dialog and click ok, watir continues as desired. I wonder why it stops. Does that mean, I have to put some "file///" into the parameter for set()? If so, how exactly? I am using IE 6 for the testing.

• Perl XML SAX parser emulating XML::Simple record for record

  Short Q summary: I am looking a fast XML parser (most likely a wrapper around some standard SAX parser) which will produce per-record data structure 100% identical to those produced by XML::Simple. Details: We have a large code infrastructure which depends on processing records one-by-one and expects the record to be a data structure in a format produced by XML::Simple since it always used XML::Simple since early Jurassic era. An example simple XML is: <root> <rec><f1>v1</f1><f2>v2</f2></rec> <rec><f1>v1b</f1><f2>v2b</f2></rec> <rec><f1>v1c</f1><f2>v2c</f2></rec> </root> And example rough code is: sub process_record { my ($obj, $record_hash) = @_; # do_stuff } my $records = XML::Simple->XMLin(@args)->{root}; foreach my $record (@$records) { $obj->process_record($record) }; As everyone knows XML::Simple is, well, simple. And more importantly, it is very slow and a memory hog - due to being a DOM parser and needing to build/store 100% of data in memory. So, it's not the best tool for parsing an XML file consisting of large amount of small records record-by-record. However, re-writing the entire code (which consist of large amount of "process_record"-like methods) to work with standard SAX parser seems like an big task not worth the resources, even at the cost of living with XML::Simple. What I'm looking for is an existing module which will probably be based on a SAX parser (or anything fast with small memory footprint) which can be used to produce $record hashrefs one by one based on the XML pictured above that can be passed to $obj->process_record($record) and be 100% identical to what XML::Simple's hashrefs would have been.

• Getting text between quotes using regular expression

  I'm having some issues with a regular expression I'm creating. I need a regex to match against the following examples and then sub match on the first quoted string: Input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ') ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ', 'arg1', "arg2") Must sub match Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Regex so far: \((["'])([^"']+)\1,?.*\) The regex does a sub match on the text between the first set of quotes and returns the sub match displayed above. This is almost working perfectly, but the problem I have is that if the quoted string contains quotes in the text the sub match stops at the first instance, see below: Failing input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor \"sit\" amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") Only sub matches: Lorem ipsum dolor ("Lorem ipsum dolor 'sit' amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") The entire match fails. Notes The input strings are actually php code function calls. I'm writing a script that will scan .php source files for a specific function and grab the text from the first parameter.

• Why do Unicode characters show up properly in database, but as ? when printed in Java via Hibernate?

  I'm writing a webapp, and interfacing with MySQL using Hibernate 3.5. Using "?????? ?????????" as my test string, I can input the string and see that it is properly persisted into the database. However, when I later pull the value out of the database and print to the console as a String, I see "?????? ?????????". If I use new OutputStreamWriter(System.out,"UTF-8"); then I get "„Éá„Çp„ÇØ„Éà„ÉÉ„Éó ·Éò·Éú·Éí·Éö·Éò·É°·É£·É†·Éò"". Why don't I see the original string? These are my hibernate.cfg.xml settings: <property name="hibernate.connection.useUnicode"> true </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.characterEncoding"> UTF-8 </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.charSet"> UTF-8 </property> and this is my database connection string: hibernate.connection.url = jdbc:mysql://localhost/mydatabase?autoReconnect=true&amp;useUnicode=true&amp;characterEncoding=UTF-8

• Socket errors of 10048 on the client? Possible causes?

  Hello, I'm writing a custom TCP server and client and on doing a ton of requests (60,000 to be exact) I begin to get this socket error of 10048, which should mean "the address is already in use." The error keeps happening unless I pause the process for like 2 or 3 minutes and then begin it again, and then it begins to bring up the same error a short while after restarting it. If I pause the client process and restart the server process, I still get the same error on the client. So it is a complete client side problem. This does not make sense though, this error only usually occurs when binding and this error happens on the client and not the server. What could be the possible reasons for it? A small excerpt of my initialization: TcpClient client = new TcpClient(); client.Connect("XXXXX -- some ip", 25000); client.NoDelay = true; NetworkStream clientStream = client.GetStream(); Also, everything else seems to be working fine(including the amount of time it takes to send back and forth) and this works perfectly when using 127.0.0.1 but when putting it on another LAN computer I begin to get the 10048 error. Is there something wrong with how I initialize it? What else could cause this error on the client side?

• Implementing crossover in genetic programming

  Hi, I'm writing a genetic programming (GP) system (in C but that's a minor detail). I've read a lot of the literature (Koza, Poli, Langdon, Banzhaf, Brameier, et al) but there are some implementation details I've never seen explained. For example: I'm using a steady state population rather than a generational approach, primarily to use all of the computer's memory rather than reserve half for the interim population. Q1. In GP, as opposed to GA, when you perform crossover you select two parents but do you create one child or two, or is that a free choice you have? Q2. In steady state GP, as opposed to a generational system, what members of the population do the children created by crossover replace? This is what I haven't seen discussed. Is it the two parents, or is it two other, randomly-selected members? I can understand if it's the latter, and that you might use negative tournament selection to choose members to replace, but would that not create premature convergence? (After a crossover event the population contains the two original parents plus two children of those parents, and two other random members get removed. Elitism is inherent.) Q3. Is there a Web forum or mailing list focused on GP? Oddly I haven't found one. Yahoo's GP group is used almost exclusively for announcements, the Poli/Langdon Field Guide forum is almost silent, and GP discussions on general/game programming sites like gamedev.net are very basic. • SQL database problems with addressbook table design

  Hello! I am writing a addressbook module for my software right now. I have the database set up so far that it supports a very flexible address-book configuration. I can create n-entries for every type I want. Type means here data like 'email', 'address', 'telephone' etc. I have a table named 'contact_profiles'. This only has two columns: id Primary key date_created DATETIME And then there is a table called contact_attributes. This one is a little more complex: id PK #profile (Foreign key to contact_profiles.id) type VARCHAR describing the type of the entry (name, email, phone, fax, website, ...) I should probably change this to a SET later. value Text (containing the value for the attribute). I can now link to these profiles, for example from my user's table. But from here I run into problems. At the moment I would have to create a JOIN for each value that I want to retrieve. Is there a possibility to somehow create a View, that gives me a result with the type's as columns? So right now I would get something like #profile type value 1 email [email protected] 1 name Sebastian Hoitz 1 website domain.tld But it would be nice to get a result like this: #profile email name website 1 [email protected] Sebastian Hoitz domain.tld The reason I do not want to create the table layout like this initially is, that there might always be things to add and I want to be able to have multiple attributes of the same type. So do you know if there is any possibility to convert this dynamically? If you need a better description please let me know. Thank you!

  Hi, i'm quite new to django and trying to add a shopping cart to a simple webshop. What I need is a simple cart that can be filled and presents its content, which is then sent to the vendor via email. So Satchmo might be too big for this task. Therefore i chose django-cart (http://code.google.com/p/django-cart/) which causes some problems now. 1. Is django-cart the right thing? Or are there any better approaches to this task? 2. As I am a beginner even django-cart makes me struggle. I used the view and the template of the django-cart-website, but writing a form that can be used to add products to the cart took me hours. I probably need help in understanding the general layout of a shopping cart and its integration into a website. 3. Two more specific questions: Is it possible to dynamically populate a formfield in a template (e.g. with {{ object.id }})? Is django-cart able to change (update) the contents of a cart? • How can I process an image in .NET for a full-page print with a quality like Windows Photo Gallery d

  I'm writing a printing routing in C#, using the .NET PrintDocument class, handling the OnPrintPage event. I've managed to maximize the margins and print the Image in landscape mode, but it simply does not look as good as when I print the same image file from Windows Photo Gallery (formerly Windows Picture and Fax Viewer), the default image preview program in Windows Vista. I noticed an option there for selecting "Sharpen Image for Printing", but what does that do? I've thought about printing copies of the image from Windows Photo Gallery first, then sending the sheets through the printer a second time to print the custom overlays I need, but it's hard to make it line up every time, since the printer sucks the sheet in without the kind of precision I need... so I really need to do ALL the drawing commands within C#, including the image. Does anyone know how to perform pre-processing on the bitmap so that it prints as nicely as Windows Photo Gallery does it? Are there any simple print drivers that can intercept Photo Gallery printing output as a standard image file (bmp, png, etc.) that can be read by the .NET Image class? I'm all for creativity here.

• How to preprocess text to do OCR error correction

  Here is what I'm trying to accomplish: I need to get a several large text files from a computer that is not networked and has no other output except a printer. I tried printing the text, then scanning the printout with OCR to recover the text on another computer but the OCR gets lots of errors (1 vs l, o vs 0, O vs D, etc). To solve this I am thinking of writing a program to process (annotate?) the text file, before printing it, so that the errors can be corrected from the text output of the OCR program. For example, for 1 (number one) vs l (letter L), I could change the text like this: sample inserting \nnn after characters that are frequently wrong in the OCR results: sampl\108e Then I can write another program to examine the file, looking for \nnn and check the character before the \nnn (where nnn is the ascii code in decimal) and fix it if necessary. Of course the program will have to recognize that the \nnn may have errors too but at least it knows that the nnn are digits and can easily correct them. I think I would add a CRC on each line so that any line that isn't corrected perfectly can be flagged as having a problem. Has anyone done anything like this? If there is an existing way of doing this I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. Or any suggestions for annotation format that would help solve this problem would be helpful too.

• Java design: too many getters

  After writing a few lesser programs when learning Java the way I've designed the programs is with Model-View-Control. With using MVC I have a plethora of getter methods in the model for the view to use. It feels that while I gain on using MVC, for every new value added I have to add two new methods in the model which quickly get all cluttered with getter & setters. So I was thinking, maybe I should use the notifyObserver method that takes an argument. But wouldn't feel very smart to send every value by itself either so I figured, maybe if I send a kind of container with all the values, preferably only those that actually changed. What this would accomplish would be that instead of having a whole lot of getter methods I could just have one method in the model which put all relevant values in the container. Then in the view I would have a method called from the update which extracted the values from the container and assigning them to the correct fields. I have two questions concerning this. First: is this actually a viable way to do this. Would you recommend me doing something along these lines? Secondly: if I do use this plan and I don't want to keep sending fields that didn't actually change. How would I handle that without having to have if statements to check if the value is not null for every single value?

  Hi I am using prestashop as the cart for my website. I have a problem; the website used to be in dynamic urls. I enabled friendly url writing. The problem is that one page has more than one url. You can access a same page from the dynamic url and static url. In fact a single page has 9 different urls. This obviously creates problems for seo as search engiones penalize my website for this. • Different location of assemblies stoped the type casting.

  I am writing a custom Control class in C# for my main project. There're 2 projects, one for my Control and one for my main project. These 2 projects are in the same solution. I add a reference from my main project to my Control project. I notice that the first time after I drag my Control from the Tool Panel onto my main winform, an assembly folder was generated at the C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies, and the folder name is something like "jlebh-py01". The first build is always OK, but after I rebuild my Control class or whole solution, a new assembly folder will be generated at C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies, and then problem arises, my Control fails to behave well because Visual Studio says that the two types "originates from different location". The error message is as below: [A]MyControl.TypeXXX cannot be cast to [B]MyControl.TypeXXX. Type A orginates from assemblyXXX at location 'C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies\jlebh-py01\MyControl.dll' Type B originats from assemblyXXX at location 'C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies\ue4i-z3j01\MyControl.dll' If I reference the Control DLL directly instead of through project reference, or never rebuild the Control project after use my Control in the main project, things seem to be OK. The problem is the rowmapper in the test is different from the rowmapper in the DAO. So the expectation is not met. I tried to put with around the sql query and with(any(RowMapper.class)) for the rowmapper. It wouldn't work either, complains about "not all parameters were given explicit matchers: either all parameters must be specified by matchers or all must be specified by values, you cannot mix matchers and values"

• UnsatisfiedLinkError: The specified procedure could not be found

  I'm writing some JNI code in C++ to be called from an applet on Windows XP. I've been able to successfully run the applet and have the JNI library loaded and called, even going so far as having it call functions in other DLLs. I got this working by setting up the PATH system environment variable to include the directory all of my DLLs are in. So, the problem, is that I add another call that uses a new external DLL, and suddenly when loading the library, an UnsatisfiedLinkError is thrown. The message is: 'The specified procedure could not be found'. This doesn't seem to be a problem with a missing dependent DLL, because I can remove a dependent DLL and get a different message about dependent DLL missing. From what I've been able to find online, it appears that this message means that a native Java function implementation is missing from the DLL, but it's odd that it works fine without this extra bit of code. Does anyone know what might be causing this? What kinds of things can give a 'The specified procedure could not be found' messages for an UnsatisifedLinkError?

So my question is: 1. Which code is considered more pythonic? 2. Is there still a more pythonic was of writing this function? 3. What about the trade-offs between pythonicity and other aspects (like speed in this case) of programming? p.s. I kinda have an OCD for elegant code. • No acceleration for OpenGL and ImportError for modules that exist

  I wanted to get into systems programming for linux and wanted to know how to approach that and where to begin. I come from a web development background (Python, PHP) but I also know some C and C++. Essentially, I would like to know: Which language(s) to learn and pursue (I think mainly C and C++)? How/Where to learn those languages specific to Systems Programming? Books, websites, blogs, tutorials etc. Any other good places where I can start this from basics? Any good libraries to begin with? What environment setup (or approx.) do I need? Assuming linux has to be there but I have a linux box which I rarely log into using GUI (always use SSH). Is GUI a lot more helpful or VI editor is enough? (Please let me know if this part of the question should go to serverfault.com) PS: Just to clarify, by systems programming I mean things like writing device drivers, System tools, write native applications which are not present on Linux platform but are on others, play with linux kernel etc.

• Write a compiler for a language that looks ahead and multiple files?

  In my language I can use a class variable in my method when the definition appears below the method. It can also call methods below my method and etc. There are no 'headers'. Take this C# example. class A { public void callMethods() { print(); B b; b.notYetSeen(); public void print() { Console.Write("v = {0}", v); } int v=9; } class B { public void notYetSeen() { Console.Write("notYetSeen()\n"); } } How should I compile that? what i was thinking is: pass1: convert everything to an AST pass2: go through all classes and build a list of define classes/variable/etc pass3: go through code and check if there's any errors such as undefined variable, wrong use etc and create my output But it seems like for this to work I have to do pass 1 and 2 for ALL files before doing pass3. Also it feels like a lot of work to do until I find a syntax error (other than the obvious that can be done at parse time such as forgetting to close a brace or writing 0xLETTERS instead of a hex value). My gut says there is some other way. Note: I am using bison/flex to generate my compiler.

  I'm writing a compiler that generates Jasmin code and want to invoke a method that takes a Class as a parameter. public class CTest { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { java.lang.reflect.Array.newInstance(CTest.class, 0); } } So in Jasmin, I think that should be: .class public CTest2 .super java/lang/Object .method public static main([Ljava/lang/String;)V .limit stack 2 .limit locals 1 ldc_w CTest2 iconst_0 invokestatic java/lang/reflect/Array/newInstance(Ljava/lang/Class;I)Ljava/lang/Object; pop return .end method When I assemble it and run it I get: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.VerifyError: (class: CTest2, method: main signature: ([Ljava/lang/String;)V) Illegal type in constant pool Looking at the disassembled code for both CTest.class (the Java version) and CTest2.class (the Jasmin version) with "javap -c -verbose" they both appear to set up the constant pool the same way: const #2 = class #16; // CTest const #16 = Asciz CTest; 0: ldc_w #2; //class CTest const #14 = Asciz CTest2; const #17 = class #14; // CTest2 0: ldc_w #17; //class CTest2 I've fixed two bugs in Jasmin already, but I can't see what it's doing wrong when putting the class in the constant pool for "ldc_w" it puts classes in the constant pool for other instructions, like "new" and "anewarray" correctly. I've tried looking at the .class files with TraceClassVisitor in ASM, but it doesn't dump the constant pool. Any ideas what I can try next?

• Python: Seeing all files in Hex.

  I am writing a python script which looks at common computer files and examines them for similar bytes, words, double word's. Though I need/want to see the files in Hex, ande cannot really seem to get python to open a simple file in python. I have code that does it, but there's a gap: private void TextBox_KeyUp(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (e.Key != Key.Enter) { return; } TextBox textbox = (TextBox)sender; if (IsTextBoxTheLastOneInTheTemplate(textbox)) { this.mCollection.Add("A new textbox appears!"); } } The function IsTextBoxTheLastOneInTheTemplate() is something that I need, but can't figure out how to write.
