  • What does really happen when we do a BEGIN TRAN in SQL Server 2005?

    - by Misnomer
Hi all, I came across this issue or maybe something I didn't realize but I did a Begin Tran and had some code inside it and never ran a commit or rollback as I forgot about it. That caused all many of the database queries or even just a simple select top 1000 command were just sitting on loading..? Now it probably has put some locks on the tables I guess since it did not let me query them..but I just wanted to know what exactly happened and what are the practices to be followed here ?

  • basic SQL atomicity "UPDATE ... SET .. WHERE ..."

    - by elgcom
I have a rather basic and general question about atomicity of "UPDATE ... SET .. WHERE ..." statement. having a table (without extra constraint), +----------+ | id | name| +----------+ | 1 | a | +----+-----+ now, I would execute following 4 statements "at the same time" (concurrently). UPDATE table SET name='b1' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b2' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b3' WHERE name='a' UPDATE table SET name='b4' WHERE name='a' is there only one UPDATE statement would be executed with table update? or, is it possible that more than one UPDATE statements can really update the table? should I need extra transaction or lock to let only one UPDATE write values into table? thanks

  • Virtual Function Implementation

    - by Gokul
Hi, I have kept hearing this statement. Switch..Case is Evil for code maintenance, but it provides better performance(since compiler can inline stuffs etc..). Virtual functions are very good for code maintenance, but they incur a performance penalty of two pointer indirections. Say i have a base class with 2 subclasses(X and Y) and one virtual function, so there will be two virtual tables. The object has a pointer, based on which it will choose a virtual table. So for the compiler, it is more like switch( object's function ptr ) { case 0x....: X->call(); break; case 0x....: Y->call(); }; So why should virtual function cost more, if it can get implemented this way, as the compiler can do the same in-lining and other stuff here. Or explain me, why is it decided not to implement the virtual function execution in this way? Thanks, Gokul.

  • How would I UPDATE these table entries with SQL?

    - by CT
I am working on an Asset Database problem. I enter assets into a database. Every object is an asset and has variables within the asset table. An object is also a type of asset. In this example the type is server. Here is the Query to retrieve all necessary data: SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchaseDate ,asset.purchaseOrder ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,server.manufacturer ,server.model ,server.serialNumber ,server.esc ,server.warranty ,server.user ,server.prevUser ,server.cpu ,server.memory ,server.hardDrive FROM asset LEFT JOIN server ON server.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = '$id' How would I write a query to update an asset?

  • Jquery class changing works, but doesn't effect another function like it should

    - by Qwibble
So I have content boxes that close and expand when you click an arrow. The content box has two classes for telling whether it is open or closed (.box_open, .box_closed). A hover function is assigned to box_open so when it is open and you hover over the header, the arrow appears. However, I don't want this to happen when the box is closed, as I want to arrow to remain visible when the box is closed. When the box closes, the box_open class is removed, but the function assigned to that class still works. Here's the jquery code for the two functions. You can also see them in the head of the demo below. // Display Arrow on Box Header Hover $(".box_open").hover( function () { $(this).find('a').show(); }, function () { $(this).find('a').hide(); } ); // Open and Close Boxes: $(".box_header a").click( function () { $(this).parent().next('.box_border').stop().toggle(); $(this).parent().toggleClass("box_open"); $(this).parent().toggleClass("box_closed"); return false; } ); Can anyone take a look at what the problem is? Here's the demo url: Demo Url

  • linq-to-sql "an attempt has been made to attach or add an entity that is not new"?

    - by Curtis White
I've been getting several errors: cannot add an entity with a key that is already in use An attempt has been made to attach or add an entity that is not new, perhaps having been loaded from another datacontext In case 1, this stems from trying to set the key for an entity versus the entity. In case 2, I'm not attaching an entity but I am doing this: MyParent.Child = EntityFromOtherDataContext; I've been using using the pattern of wrap everything with a using datacontext. In my case, I am using this in a web forms scenario, and obviously moving the datacontext object to a class wide member variables solves this. My questions are thus 2 fold: How can I get rid of these errors and not have to structure my program in an odd way or pass the datacontext around while keeping the local-wrap pattern? I assume I could make another hit to the database but that seems very inefficient. Would most people recommend that moving the datacontext to the class wide scope is desirable for web pages?

  • Multilevel nested product categories display with asp.net and sql server?

    - by Kunal
I have a product category table with the following fields: cat_id (PK) Cat_name Cat_desc Parent_Cat_Id Now when a user wants to add a product he should be able to select multiple categories from a listbox(multiselection enabaled). But to let the user know the hierarchy of the categories, I need to display them in the following style: parent category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 2 parent category 1-sub category 2 Parent category 2 ... I know that to achieve this I need to use recursive programming. But how can we do it via stored procedures? That would be much more efficient, right? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

  • CouchDB Map/Reduce raises execption in reduce function?

    - by fuzzy lollipop
my view generates keys in this format ["job_id:1234567890", 1271430291000] where the first key element is a unique key and the second is a timestamp in milliseconds. I run my view with this elapsed_time?startkey=["123"]&endkey=["123",{}]&group=true&group_level=1 and here is my reduce function, the intention is to reduce the output to get the earliest and latest timestamps and return the difference between them and now function(keys, values, rereduce) { var now = new Date().valueOf(); var first = Number.MIN_VALUE; var last = Number.MAX_VALUE; if (rereduce) { first = Math.max(first,values[0].first); last = Math.min(last,values[0].last); } else { first = keys[0][0][1]; last = keys[keys.length-1][0][1]; } return {first:now - first, last:now - last}; } and when processing a query it constantly raises the following execption: function raised exception (new TypeError("keys has no properties", "", 1)) I am making sure not to reference keys inside my rereduce block. Why does this function constantly raise this exception?

    - by Toro
Is possible refresh a function every x seconds or refresh it on single event? I explain: I have a function that make pagination on my website, inside every div that are "pages" I have some pictures where I have added LightBox. Everything works nice on the first div (page) but when I change the page it doesnt' work anymore. I tried to fix in this way: $('.pagination a').click(function () { initShadow(); }); In this way it work on the pageLoad and on the first page that I change, than it stop again. So I need to fix this issue, everytime I change the "page" I would like it works fine. Is possible to refresh a function every x second or to refresh it everytime I click on the pagination buttons?

  • getting the "this" that a function's caller was called with in JavaScript

    - by David Morrissey
Is it possible to get the this that a function's caller was called with in JavaScript without passing this to the arguments in a way which supports IE as well as Firefox/Chrome et al? For example: var ob = { callme: function() { doSomething() } } function doSomething() { alert(doSomething.caller.this === ob) // how can I make this work? } ob.callme() I'm starting to suspect it's not, but I thought I may as well ask as it'd make my code much shorter and easier to read. Thanks for any information!

My script as follow // JavaScript Document var CurrentDivIndex=0; var TimeOutValue; var btn; var TimeToFade = 1000.0; function ShowDivSlideShow() { try { if(CurrentDivIndex == 5) CurrentDivIndex=0; CurrentDivIndex++; //alert("Banner" + CurrentDivIndex); //alert(CurrentDivIndex); var Indexer=1; while(Indexer<6) { var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + Indexer); DivToShow.style.display = "none"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + Indexer); btn.setAttribute("class","none"); Indexer++; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + CurrentDivIndex); DivToShow.style.display = "block"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + CurrentDivIndex); btn.setAttribute("class","activeSlide"); // btn.className="activeSlide"; fadeIn(); TimeOutValue=setTimeout("ShowDivSlideShow()",6000); } catch(err) { alert(err) } } function ShowCustomDiv(CurrentDivIndexRec) { clearTimeout(TimeOutValue) CurrentDivIndex=CurrentDivIndexRec var Indexer=1; while(Indexer<6) { if(CurrentDivIndex==Indexer) { Indexer++; continue; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + Indexer); DivToShow.style.display = "none"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + Indexer); btn.setAttribute("class","none"); Indexer++; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + CurrentDivIndex); DivToShow.style.display = "block"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + CurrentDivIndex); btn.setAttribute("class","activeSlide"); btn.className="activeSlide" fadeIn(); } function ShowDivSlideShowWithTimeOut(CurrentDivIndexRec) { clearTimeout(TimeOutValue) CurrentDivIndex=CurrentDivIndexRec; var Indexer=1; while(Indexer<6) { if(CurrentDivIndex==Indexer) { Indexer++; continue; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + Indexer); DivToShow.style.display = "none"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + Indexer); btn.setAttribute("class","none"); Indexer++; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + CurrentDivIndexRec); DivToShow.style.display = "block"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + CurrentDivIndexRec); btn.setAttribute("class","activeSlide"); TimeOutValue=setTimeout("ShowDivSlideShow()",6000); } function ShowCustomDivOnClick(CurrentDivIndexRec) { clearTimeout(TimeOutValue) CurrentDivIndex=CurrentDivIndexRec; var Indexer=1; while(Indexer<6) { if(CurrentDivIndex==Indexer) { Indexer++; continue; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + Indexer); DivToShow.style.display = "none"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + Indexer); btn.setAttribute("class","none"); Indexer++; } var DivToShow=document.getElementById("Banner" + CurrentDivIndexRec); DivToShow.style.display = "block"; btn=document.getElementById("btnb" + CurrentDivIndexRec); btn.setAttribute("class","activeSlide"); fadeIn(); TimeOutValue=setTimeout("ShowDivSlideShow()",6000); } function setOpacity(level) { element=document.getElementById("Banner" + CurrentDivIndex); element.style.opacity = level; element.style.MozOpacity = level; element.style.KhtmlOpacity = level; element.style.filter = "alpha(opacity=" + (level * 100) + ");"; } var duration = 300; /* 1000 millisecond fade = 1 sec */ var steps = 10; /* number of opacity intervals */ var delay = 6000; /* 5 sec delay before fading out */ function fadeIn(){ for (i = 0; i <= 1; i += (1 / steps)) { setTimeout("setOpacity(" + i + ")", i * duration); } // setTimeout("fadeOut()", delay); } function fadeOut() { for (i = 0; i <= 1; i += (1 / steps)) { setTimeout("setOpacity(" + (1 - i) + ")", i * duration); } setTimeout("fadeIn()", duration); } //end of script Now I am very confused where to add : $('#slideshow').cycle({ cleartype: 1 // enable cleartype corrections }); or $('#fadingElement').fadeIn(2000, function(){ $(this).css('filter',''); }); so it will work...   • What's the best way to select max over multiple fields in SQL?

    - by allyourcode
The I kind of want to do is select max(f1, f2, f3). I know this doesn't work, but I think what I want should be pretty clear (see update 1). I was thinking of doing select max(concat(f1, '--', f2 ...)), but this has various disadvantages. In particular, doing concat will probably slow things down. What's the best way to get what I want? update 1: The answers I've gotten so far aren't what I'm after. max works over a set of records, but it compares them using only one value; I want max to consider several values, just like the way order by can consider several values. update 2: Suppose I have the following table: id class_name order_by1 order_by_2 1 a 0 0 2 a 0 1 3 b 1 0 4 b 0 9 I want a query that will group the records by class_name. Then, within each "class", select the record that would come first if you ordered by order_by1 ascending then order_by2 ascending. The result set would consist of records 2 and 3. In my magical query language, it would look something like this: select max(* order by order_by1 ASC, order_by2 ASC) from table group by class_name

  • How render fusionchart using my javascript function

    - by AnandMeena
    I want to render/call fusion chart from my javascript function. For example:- Currently we need to do these to show chart:- <script type="text/javascript"><!-- var myChart = new FusionCharts( "Column3D", "myChartId", "400", "300" ); myChart.setXMLUrl("Data.xml"); myChart.render("chartContainer"); // --> </script> But I want to write a function to render it something like below:- <script type="text/javascript"><!-- var column3d = new MyChart.Column.YFColumn3D("MSColumn3D", "MSColumn3DChart", "1100", "300", "0", "0"); column3d .setXMLUrl("Data.xml"); column3d .render("chartContainer"); // --> </script> Here YFColumn3D can be a function that render actual function of fusion chart. Thanks in advance.

  • jQuery attach function to 'load' event of an element

    - by Miguel Ping
Hi, I want to attach a function to a jQuery element that fires whenever the element is added to the page. I've tried the following, but it didn't work: var el = jQuery('<h1>HI HI HI</H1>'); el.one('load', function(e) { window.alert('loaded'); }); jQuery('body').append(el); What I really want to do is to guarantee that another jQuery function that is expecting some #id to be at the page don't fail, so I want to call that function whenever my element is loaded in the page. To clarify, I am passing the el element to another library (in this case it's a movie player but it could be anything else) and I want to know when the el element is being added to the page, whether its my movie player code that it is adding the element or anyting else.

  • jQuery tag editor function

    - by Mad Hatter
I'm using jQuery Tag Editor (http://blog.crazybeavers.se/wp-content/demos/jquery.tag.editor/) for a school project. Everything works perfect, but i'm not able to retrieve the array of tags that I added. This is my code: $("#allTags").click(function () { var tags = $("#tagEditor").tagEditor().getTags(); alert(tags); }); The array doesn't return anything. This is the code from the jQuery Tag Editor: (function ($) { $.fn.extend({ tagEditor: function (options) { var defaults = { separator: ',', items: [], className: 'tagEditor', confirmRemoval: false, confirmRemovalText: 'Do you really want to remove the tag?', completeOnSeparator: false, completeOnBlur: false, initialParse: true, } var options = $.extend(defaults, options); var listBase, textBase = this, hiddenText; var itemBase = []; this.getTags = function () { return itemBase.join(options.separator); }; ...
