  • Can I pass a pointer to a superclass, but create a copy of the child?

    - by Alex
I have a function that takes a pointer to a superclass and performs operations on it. However, at some point, the function must make a deep copy of the inputted object. Is there any way I can perform such a copy? It occurred to me to make the function a template function and simply have the user pass the type, but I hold out hope that C++ offers a more elegant solution.

  • Why are member constants available even if there are no instances of a its class?

    - by flockofcode
    1) Why are member constants available even if there are no instances of a its class? 2) Is the only reason why constant expressions need to be fully evaluated at compile time due to compiler replacing constant variable with literal value? 3) Since string is also an object, I would think the following would produce an error, but it doesn’t. Why? class A { const string b = “it works”; } thank you

  • Check if a pointer points to allocated memory on the heap.

    - by Ugo
Ok, I know this question seems to have been asked many times on stackoverflow. but please read Well the answer for any address is "No you can't" but the question here is to know if a pointer points to a piece of memory allocated with malloc/new. Actually I think it could be easily implemented overriding malloc/free and keeping track of allocated memory ranges. Do you know a memory management library providing this specific tool ?

  • Is there a straightforward way to have a ThreadStatic instance member?

    - by Dan Tao
With the ThreadStatic attribute I can have a static member of a class with one instance of the object per thread. This is really handy for achieving thread safety using types of objects that don't guarantee thread-safe instance methods (e.g., System.Random). It only works for static members, though. Is there some corresponding attribute that provides the same functionality, but for instance members? In other words, that allows me to have one instance of the object, per thread, per instance of the containing class?

  • How to call a PHP class member function from a Java file?

    - by Jack
I am using PHP/Java bridge to run PHP scripts on the Tomcat server. Can someone point me to an example as to how to call my PHP scripts from a Java file. <?php class X{ //variables //functions } ?> Now I want to call the member functions of class X using its object via a Java file. How do I do this?

  • ASP.NET MVC Json Enum

    - by IceHeat
public class Member { public string Name { get; set; } public Role Role { get; set; } } public enum Role { Plumber } public JsonResult GetMember() { Member member = new Member(); member.Name = "Joe the Plumber"; member.Role = Role.Plumber; return Json(member); } The Json always resolves the enum "Role" as 0,despite its value. What is the quickest way to get the string representation?

  • Looking for an elegant way to store one-to-many relationship in coredata when order is important

    - by Eric Schweichler
I've been trying to come up with a way to solve my problem, but every solution I can think of is messy and makes me want to retch. I have a one-to-many relationship, consisting of a Team object that can have many Member objects. When I built my data model using Xcode, I was given the default NSSet in which to store the member objects, Unfortunately Sets are not ordered and I need to preserve the order of the Member objects and I need to know if there are empty spaces between Members. I thought of Using an NSArray in place of the NSSet and creating a dummy Member object in my data store that I could use to mark vacant a spot between to Member objects, but that solution really feels like too much of a hack to me. Since I'll always have to filter out this dummy Member from any queries. An NSDictionary would be perfect as I could store the Member object references and their positions as Object-Key pairs, (taking care of both order and vacancies) but apparently CoreData does not support NSDictionary. Has anyone had a similar need, and devised a simple solution?

  • More HtAccess Rewrite Rules

    - by pws5068
Greetings all, I need help combining some htaccess rewrites, these crazy regular expressions screw with my head. So I have a folder structure something like this: /www/mysite.com/page/member/friends.php /www/mysite.com/page/video/videos.php /www/mysite.com/page/messages/inbox.php The URLs get rewritten to this: mysite.com/member/friends.php mysite.com/video/videos.php mysite.com/messages/inbox.php (Notice the /page/ folder is hidden in the url, but I keep it on the server for better file organization) The rewrite rules look something like this: (I'm new so correct me if they are flawed) RewriteRule ^video/(.*)$ /page/video/$1 [NC] RewriteRule ^member/(.*)$ /page/member/$1 [NC] RewriteRule ^messages/(.*)$ /page/messages/$1 [NC] Now, I also need to do a completely different rewrite to a file called lobby.php inside of the member folder: After the original rewrites, a sample url looks like: mysite.com/member/lobby.php?member=pws5068 I need a new rewrite to make it look like this: mysite.com/pws5068 Thank you for bearing with my super-long question here. How can I make this happen?

  • Why aren't operator conversions implicitly called for templated functions? (C++)

    - by John Gordon
I have the following code: template <class T> struct pointer { operator pointer<const T>() const; }; void f(pointer<const float>); template <typename U> void tf(pointer<const float>); void g() { pointer<float> ptr; f(ptr); tf(ptr); } When I compile the code with gcc 4.3.3 I get a message (aaa.cc:17: error: no matching function for call to ‘tf(pointer<float>&)’) indicating that the compiler called 'operator pointer<const T>' for the non-templated function f(), but didn't for the templated function tf(). Why and is there any workaround short of overloading tf() with a const and non-const version? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Why does async BeginReceiveFrom never time out on a raw socket?

    - by James Hugard
Writing an asynchronous Ping using Raw Sockets in F#, to enable parallel requests using as few threads as possible. Not using "System.Net.NetworkInformation.Ping", because it appears to allocate one thread per request. Am also interested in using F# async workflows.
