  • Match groups in Python

    - by Curd
Is there a way in Python to access match groups without explicitely creating a match object (or another way to beautify the example below)? Here is an example to clarify my motivation for the question: Following perl code if ($statement =~ /I love (\w+)/) { print "He loves $1\n"; } elsif ($statement =~ /Ich liebe (\w+)/) { print "Er liebt $1\n"; } elsif ($statement =~ /Je t\'aime (\w+)/) { print "Il aime $1\n"; } translated into Python m = re.match("I love (\w+)", statement) if m: print "He loves",m.group(1) else: m = re.match("Ich liebe (\w+)", statement) if m: print "Er liebt",m.group(1) else: m = re.match("Je t'aime (\w+)", statement) if m: print "Il aime",m.group(1) looks very awkward (if-else-cascade, match object creation).

  • Python overriding class (not instance) special methods

    - by André
How do I override a class special method? I want to be able to call the __str__() method of the class without creating an instance. Example: class Foo: def __str__(self): return 'Bar' class StaticFoo: @staticmethod def __str__(): return 'StaticBar' class ClassFoo: @classmethod def __str__(cls): return 'ClassBar' if __name__ == '__main__': print(Foo) print(Foo()) print(StaticFoo) print(StaticFoo()) print(ClassFoo) print(ClassFoo()) produces: <class '__main__.Foo'> Bar <class '__main__.StaticFoo'> StaticBar <class '__main__.ClassFoo'> ClassBar should be: Bar Bar StaticBar StaticBar ClassBar ClassBar Even if I use the @staticmethod or @classmethod the __str__ is still using the built in python definition for __str__. It's only working when it's Foo().__str__() instead of Foo.__str__().

  • syntax error in python:

    - by pecker
Hello, I'm learning python. It gives syntax error in this script. I'm unable to figure out. import exceptions class FOUND(Exception): pass x = [1,2,3,4,56,73,29,35,12,32,63,12,76,75,89] while True: test = int(raw_input('Enter integer to be checked in list:')) try: count = -1 for y in x: count += 1 if y == test: raise FOUND except ValueError,e: print "Not a valid integer (%d)"%(e) except FOUND: print "Found (%d) at (%d)"%(test, count) else: print "Not found ,Appending (%d) to list at location (%d)"%(test,count+1) x.append(test) finally: print "The List:" print x print " " Invalid syntax & it highlights comma in this line: 'except ValueError,e:'

  • Why does my C++ LinkedList method print out the last word more than once?

    - by Anthony Glyadchenko
When I call the cmremoveNode method in my LinkedList from outside code, I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS. FIXED: But now the last word using the following test code gets repeated twice: #include <iostream> #include "LinkedList.h" using namespace std; int main (int argc, char * const argv[]) { ctlinkList linkMe; linkMe.cminsertNode("The"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Cat"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Dog"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Cow"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Ran"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Pig"); linkMe.cminsertNode("Away"); linkMe.cmlistList(); cout << endl; linkMe.cmremoveNode("The"); linkMe.cmremoveNode("Cow"); linkMe.cmremoveNode("Away"); linkMe.cmlistList(); return 0; } LinkedList code: /* * LinkedList.h * Lab 6 * * Created by Anthony Glyadchenko on 3/22/10. * Copyright 2010 __MyCompanyName__. • for loop with count from array, limit output? PHP

    - by Philip
    print '<div id="wrap">'; print "<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"3\" cellspacing=\"3\">"; for($i=0; $i<count($news_comments); $i++) { print ' <tr> <td width="30%"><strong>'.$news_comments[$i]['comment_by'].'</strong></td> <td width="70%">'.$news_comments[$i]['comment_date'].'</td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td>'.$news_comments[$i]['comment'].'</td> </tr> '; } print '</table></div>'; $news_comments is a 3 diemensional array from mysqli_fetch_assoc returned from a function elsewhere, for some reason my for loop returns the total of the array sets such as [0][2] etc until it reaches the max amount from the counted $news_comments var which is a return function of LIMIT 10. my problem is if I add any text/html/icons inside the for loop it prints it in this case 11 times even though only array sets 1 and 2 have data inside them. How do I get around this? My function query is as follows: function news_comments() { require_once '../data/queries.php'; // get newsID from the url $urlID = $_GET['news_id']; // run our query for newsID information $news_comments = selectQuery('*', 'news_comments', 'WHERE news_id='.$urlID.'', 'ORDER BY comment_date', 'DESC', '10'); // requires 6 params // check query for results if(!$news_comments) { // loop error session and initiate var foreach($_SESSION['errors'] as $error=>$err) { print htmlentities($err) . 'for News Comments, be the first to leave a comment!'; } } else { print '<div id="wrap">'; print "<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"3\" cellspacing=\"3\">"; for($i=0; $i<count($news_comments); $i++) { print ' <tr> <td width="30%"><strong>'.$news_comments[$i]['comment_by'].'</strong></td> <td width="70%">'.$news_comments[$i]['comment_date'].'</td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td>'.$news_comments[$i]['comment'].'</td> </tr> '; } print '</table></div>'; } }// End function Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • In Ruby Compare 2 lines in a log file which BOTH contain the SAME "WORD" but ONLY print out the line

    - by kamal
here are sample lines Apr 9 11:53:26 skip [2244]: [2244] ab-cd-ef:cc [INFO] A recoverable error has occurred some other log lines .. .... Apr 9 12:53:26 skip [2244]: [2244] ab-cd-ef:cc [INFO] A recoverable error has occurred now the LATEST line would have to be one with the latest Date String, and THAT is the one that needs to be printed, plus the NEXT time the parser runs on the log file, somehow the previous LATEST line has to be compared with the Existing latest one, and it CAN e the case, that NOTHING Changed and the OLD line is STILL the latest one, OR there is a NEW line, but ONLY the NEW log line should be printed and NOT if there is NO NEW log Entry.

  • How do I format a String in an email so Outlook will print the line breaks?

    - by MattGrommes
I'm trying to send an email in Java but when I read the body of the email in Outlook, it's gotten rid of all my linebreaks. I'm putting \n at the ends of the lines but is there something special I need to do other than that? The receivers are always going to be using Outlook. I found a page on microsoft.com that says there's a 'Remove line breaks' "feature" in Outlook so does this mean there's no solution to get around that other than un-checking that setting? Thanks

  • match 'article' in url RewriteRule

    - by daniel Crabbe
hello there. building a site which has content for each section. urls range from; /work/ /work/print/ /work/print/folders etc. however, at any point a user can click on an article so; /work/article/1066 /work/print/article/1066 /work/print/folders/article/1066 using .htaccess i need to detect when there is 'article' in the url and set some different variables. RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/$ sets index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4 but if 'article/([0-9-]+)' is in the url, say /work/print/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&articleID=1066 basically the amount of levels will always be different but i'd like to return those as needed. another example would /work/print/folder/archive/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4&articleID=1066 any help appreciated! • python: strange behavior about exec statement

exec statement: exec code [ in globals[, locals]] When I execute the following code in python, the result really confused me. And if I want to setup all variables and functions into the locals, and keep the rights of accessing the globals. How to do ?

  • How do I get all data from a mysql table via php, and print out the contents of every cell ?

    - by roberto
Hi. I've got a database table with at least three rows in it. From php, I have successfully connected to my db and extracted all table information with 'SELECT * from mytable' . Now I want to loop through first each row, and then each cell, printing out the contents of each cell. I know this might be a simple task for a more experienced programmer, but I can't figure it out, and I can't find any examples online and it's driving me stark raving bonkers. How can I do this ?

  • Interpreter in C++: Function table storage problem

    - by sub
In my interpreter I have built-in functions available in the language like print exit input, etc. These functions can obviously be accessed from inside the language. The interpreter then looks for the corresponding function with the right name in a vector and calls it via a pointer stored with its name. So I gather all these functions in files like io.cpp, string.cpp, arithmetic.cpp. But I have to add every function to the function list in the interpreter in order for it to be found. So in these function files I have things like: void print( arg ) { cout << arg.ToString; } I'd add this print function to the interpreter function list with: interpreter.AddFunc( "print", print ); But where should I call the interpreter.AddFunc? I can't just put it there below the print function as it has to be in a function according to the C++ syntax. Where and how should all the functions be added to the list?

  • How to pass a variable to an awk print parameter...

    - by Jamie
    I'm trying extract the nth + 1 and nth + 3 columns from a file. This is what tried, which is a useful pseudo code: for i in {1..100} ; do awk -F "," " { printf \"%3d, %12.3f, %12.3f\\n\", \$1, \$($i+1), \$($i+3) } " All_Runs.csv > Run-$i.csv which, obviously doesn't work (but it seemed reasonable to hope). How can I do this?

  • Confused about "override" vs. "new" in C#

    - by iTayb
I'm having the following classes: class Base { public virtual void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Base"); } } class Der1 : Base { public new virtual void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Der1"); } } class Der2 : Der1 { public override void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Der2"); } } This is my main method: Base b = new Der2(); Der1 d1 = new Der2(); Der2 d2 = new Der2(); b.Print(); d1.Print(); d2.Print(); The output is Base, Der2, Der2. As far as I know, Override won't let previous method to run, even if the pointer is pointing to them. So the first line should output Der2 as well. However Base came out. How is it possible? How the override didn't work there?

  • Use Awk to Print every character as its own column?

    - by wizkid84
Hi there, I am in need of reorganizing a large CSV file. The first column, which is currently a 6 digit number needs to be split up, using comma's as the field separator. For example, I need this: 022250,10:50 AM,274,22,50 022255,11:55 AM,275,22,55 turned into this: 0,2,2,2,5,0,10:50 AM,274,22,50 0,2,2,2,5,5,11:55 AM,275,22,55 Let me know what you think! Thanks!
