  • How to test my Firebird SQL queries

    - by Bob
I'm in the process of learning SQL, and I need a way of verifying that my SQL queries are valid (i.e. no syntax errors). I also would like to check what results they yield on a test database of my choosing and structure. I'm using embedded firebird in my C# .NET application, so I don't really have any tools to work with. Anyone have any tips? Perhaps there are SQL administrators/query IDEs out there that work with Firebird?

  • cleaning up expired sessions with a custom SessionStateStoreProvider

    - by CountCet
I'm implementing my own SessionStateStoreProvider with a schemaless database. It's a little hard to tell from the documentation but it seems as though I will have to have a separate process for cleaning up expired sessions since the database will not have a way to notify the session state store that a session has expired. Am I wrong about this? I haven't seen an alternative example for overriding the SetItemExpireCallback method.

  • Automatic web browsing for windows phone

    - by Elias
There's a website (telephonic company) where I get a statistic information about the amount of data transferred by my phone during the current month. To access that information, I need: * Access the website and login with username and passwod (html form) * Then choose an option in a combo box (html select) * And finally click on a link that shows the information (html a) I want to develop an app that does all this process automatically, and shows only the statistic data. There's a way to do this in C#?

  • Gaining access to jndi environment variables within a Tomcat LifecycleListener

    - by rmarimon
I'm using a LifecycleListener in tomcat to initialize some objects required by contexts in my web server. Within LifecycleListener I would like to have access to GlobalNamingResources Environment variables to keep the configuration for the server inside the server.xml file. When trying various approaches I get the following error: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name java:comp is not bound in this Context I'm assuming that the jndi is not initialized by this stage of the server startup process. Any ideas on how to tackle this?

  • C# - Sharing static data between multiple processes

    - by Murtaza Mandvi
I have a WCF service (instantiated within a Console application on NetTCP), this service has static data (large volume) which gets instantiated on the load. I have multiple instances of this Console application running at once, and all of them are doing the same static data initialization , is there a way that I can have a single data source and share the data among processes so that each process does not have to consume large amount of memory?

  • MSSQL Server high CPU and I/O activity database tuning

    - by zapping
Our application tends to be running very slow recently. On debugging and tracing found out that the process is showing high cpu cycles and SQL Server shows high I/O activity. Can you please guide as to how it can be optimised? The application is now about an year old and the database file sizes are not very big or anything. The database is set to auto shrink. Its running on win2003, SQL Server 2005 and the application is a web application coded in c# i.e vs2005

  • How do I recycle code in Visual Studio with XNA?

    - by Marty Wallace
I'm relatively new to both C# and Visual Studio, using XNA Game Studio. All I want to do is take some folders from a current project which contain .cs files and utilise those files in a new project, but it's proving to be a little trickier than I am used to with Flash/ActionScript. At the moment it seems like I need to use this process over and over until all the files I want are part of the current project:

  • Joomla + CB (Community Builder) + Google Apps

I started wondering today if it would be possible to integrate Joomla+CB with Google apps. If that would be possible we could have one great product! The first thing that I would want to integrate is the logon-process, one login for Joomla+Google apps. Then it would be great to have some Google apps modules: - your latest e-mails - your next calendar entries - your google talk buddies online/offline - your most recent docs and spreadsheets

  • How can I Monitor the Performance of Individual Apps on Windows?

My XP machine has become terribly slow and I want to identify the application at fault. It seems to be related to disk access rather than processor hogging. I can look at the task manager to get a good idea but it's not ideal. I was wondering if there was some application that can monitor all aspects of processes effectively. Is Process Explorer my only hope?

  • Using Action Filters for user login in Asp.NET MVC?

    - by ripper234
I recently built a site using Asp.Net. The way I chose to implement user login is through a base 'UserAwareController' class, that all controllers extend. It contained a reference to the UserRepository, and exposed a protected GetCurrentUser() method that concrete controllers could query. The whole process felt a bit wishy-washy to me. Is Action Filters a good alternative? What are its benefits? Is there something else I might be missing?

  • DataSet v/s Database

    - by Hemanshu Bhojak
While designing applications it is a very good practice to have all the business logic in one place. So why then we sometimes have the business logic in stored procs? Can we fetch all data from the DB and store it in a DataSet and then process it? What would be the performance of the app in this scenario?

  • iTunes App Store: Does a major version upgrade = longer approval queue time?

    - by erlingormar
I'm wondering if anyone has insight into this... when releasing an update of an iPhone application, should I expect the approval process to take longer if I submit something that's declared as a major version update (as compared to a minor version)? Last time around (about the time the big Facebook-update was released) our wait time for a minor version review was 21 days (16 working days).

  • Learning to compile in xcode

    - by 00PS
I have started using c++ extensively in school and now my programs are getting to the point where have more than 1 file (i.e. header, driver, implementation file). I don't know enough about software development to understand or get a grasp of how to setup the build process by looking at apple's guides. Could someone walk me through how to compile a simple c++ project with a header and two c++ files in xcode? Do I first need to make a makefile??

  • Is there a substitute for blockproc in Matlab?

    - by SetchSen
I've been using blockproc for processing images blockwise. Unfortunately, blockproc is part of the Image Processing Toolbox, which I don't have on my personal computer. Is there a combination of functions in base Matlab that can substitute for blockproc? My initial guess was to use im2col to transform each block into columns, and then arrayfun to process each column. Then I realized that im2col is also a part of the Image Processing Toolbox, so that doesn't solve my problem.

  • json webservice security

    - by crisgomez
I have a problem regarding json web service security. I tried to developed a sample web application using json webservice, but the problem is the url was exposed on the client side.So from there, anybody can make a program and call the service for a thousand times. Please take note, that the web service will be using for a registration page, in which checks if the user was exist on the database. So there is no authentication happened on this process. What are the approach to secure the calling of the exposed web service?

  • MongoDB: What's the point of using MapReduce without parallelism?

    - by netvope
Quoting http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/MapReduce#MapReduce-Parallelism As of right now, MapReduce jobs on a single mongod process are single threaded Without parallelism, what are the benefits of MapReduce compared to simpler or more traditional methods for queries and data aggregation? To avoid confusion: the question is NOT "what are the benefits of document-oriented DB over traditional relational DB"

  • Improving performance on data pasting 2000 rows with validations

    - by Lohit
I have N rows (which could be nothing less than 1000) on an excel spreadsheet. And in this sheet our project has 150 columns like this: Now, our application needs data to be copied (using normal Ctrl+C) and pasted (using Ctrl+V) from the excel file sheet on our GUI sheet. Copy pasting 1000 records takes around 5-6 seconds which is okay for our requirement, but the problem is when we need to make sure the data entered is valid. So we have to validate data in each row generate appropriate error messages and format the data as per requirement. So we need to at runtime parse and evaluate data in each row. Now all the formatting of data and validations come from the back-end database and we have it in a data-table (dtValidateAndFormatConditions). The conditions would be around 50. So you can see how slow this whole process becomes since N X 150 X 50 operations are required to complete this whole process. Initially it took approximately 2-3 minutes but now i have reduced it to 20 - 30 seconds. However i have increased the speed by making an expression parser of my own - and not by any algorithm, is there any other way i can improve performance, by using Divide and Conquer or some other mechanism. Currently i am not really sure how to go about this. Here is what part of my code looks like: public virtual void ValidateAndFormatOnCopyPaste(DataTable DtCopied, int CurRow) { foreach (DataRow dRow in dtValidateAndFormatConditions.Rows) { string Condition = dRow["Condition"]; string FormatValue = Value = dRow["Value"]; GetValidatedFormattedData(DtCopied, ref Condition, ref FormatValue ,iRowIndex); Condition = Parse(Condition); dRow["Condition"] = Condition; FormatValue = Parse(FormatValue ); dRow["Value"] = FormatValue; } } The above code gets called row-wise like this: public override void ValidateAndFormat(DataTable dtChangedRecords, CellRange cr) { int iRowStart = cr.Row, iRowEnd = cr.Row + cr.RowCount; for (int iRow = iRowStart; iRow < iRowEnd; iRow++) { ValidateAndFormatOnCopyPaste(dtChangedRecords,iRow); } } Please know my question needs a more algorithmic solution than code optimization, however any answers containing code related optimizations will be appreciated as well. (Tagged Linq because although not seen i have been using linq in some parts of my code).
