• Is there a simple, safe way to trigger a GPU lockup on a susceptible computer?

  Answers to my previous question, Ubuntu 12.04 froze, requiring powercycle. What should I look / grep for in the logs?, have led me to suspect that my computer is experiencing an intermittent GPU lockup. It has been happening about once a week, usually when I am using Chrome. Today it happened when I was creating a diagram on lucidchart I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT and dual monitors running in Xinerama mode. I am using 12.04 with the proprietary ATI driver installed. When the computer locks-up, I can still ssh in. And I would like to follow the instructions on reporting this provided at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze Is there a (safe) way to cause a GPU lockup so that I can go ahead and file a bug, rather than waiting until it happens again?

• Suggestions for a mashup application

  I have to write a mashup application for an university course and I have to use some APIs, but I need to choose by myself what to use and what the final application should do. Unfortunately I never made an application like this, so I'm not sure what to do... I don't want to code a stupid app which uses google maps' APIs since the web seems to be full of stuff like this. Have you got any suggestion for me? Is there any mashup web app you want that's still not there?? I can use JAVA, GWT (and google app engine of course) or python, but I also accept suggestions for other languages. Thank you in advance!

• What HTTP redirect status should I use to link offsite?

  While randomly browsing my website via Google, I noticed that it was showing up remote redirects as local files. Now this can be both good and bad, but I'm wondering how can I fix this so it doesn't happen? I'm currently using PHP and header('Location: ... which sends a 302 redirect. Looking over the list of HTTP status codes, I'd take a guess that I should be using 303 redirects to redirect offsite. Is anyone able to help me here, and either confirm/deny this, or tell me what I should be doing instead? Obviously, due to me not being able to tell Google to reindex my site on command, there's issues with being able to test this myself...

  I'm trying to use the jQuery get function to render the results of an HTML page in a div on my page. The result of the get function appears to be successful because the value of textStatus (in the following code block) is "success". The value of data, however, is always empty. $(document).ready(function() { $.get('http://www.google.com', function(data, textStatus){ $('#RSSContent').html(textStatus + ' ' + data); }); }); Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Note: The final code will query an RSS feed, which I plan on transforming and rendering as HTML in the RSSContent div. I simply used http://www.google.com for testing purposes.

• SVG images grow and create scrollbars when on the server

  Okay so I embedded some SVG images into my page and opened it locally on Chrome and it looked fine. I upload the same file to the server and look at the page online and the SVG images have grown by maybe 5-10% and are surrounded by scroll bars like they are overflowing. I think it probably has to do with my lack of knowledge on how SVG and Embed work. What's really puzzling me though, is that it works fine locally. (I have cache disabled.) Help? Thanks. I'm not sure if I was just wrong before or if I changed something I'm not aware of, but it doesn't appear to be actually changing size anymore. • JavaScript + Maths: Image zoom with CSS3 Transforms, How to set Origin? (with example)

  My Math skills really suck! I'm trying to implement an image zoom effect, a bit like how the Zoom works with Google Maps, but with a grid of fix position images. I've uploaded an example of what I have so far here: http://www.dominicpettifer.co.uk/Files/MosaicZoom.html (uses CSS3 transforms so only works with Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari) Use your mouse wheel to zoom in/out. The HTML source is basically an outer div with an inner-div, and that inner-div contains 16 images arranged using absolute position. It's going to be a Photo Mosaic basically. I've got the zoom bit working using CSS3 transforms: $(this).find('div').css('-moz-transform', 'scale(' + scale + ')'); ...however, I'm relying on the mouse X/Y position on the outer div to zoom in on where the mouse cursor is, similar to how Google Maps functions. The problem is that if you zoom right in on an image, move the cursor to the bottom/left corner and zoom again, instead of zooming to the bottom/left corner of the image, it zooms to the bottom/left of the entire mosaic. This has the effect of appearing to jump about the mosaic as you zoom in closer while moving the mouse around, even slightly. That's basically the problem, I want the zoom to work exactly like Google Maps where it zooms exactly to where your mouse cursor position is, but I can't get my head around the Maths to calculate the transform-origin: X/Y values correctly. Please help, been stuck on this for 3 days now. • How do i set CTRL not to show where the pointer is?

  After recently re-installing, i went through every System Setting and choose exactly how i wanted everthing to be. Except one thing. I'd never seen the Show Cursor on CTRL value before, and wanted to know what it was like. After a while it was simply annoying, whenever i paste of cut in chrome it takes the focus off of the text before i can press V. I have been through eveything in System Settings and can't find it again to disable it. How do i set CTRL not to pulse around the cursor? I will be happy with directions in System Settings, Ubuntu Tweak, or GConf.

I'm creating a website, for which I want to have an RSS. Feedburner seems to be a good, free option - so I'd like to use that. When I go to feedburner, using my google account, it says the website I want to claim is invalid. And it's not clear how to make it valid. I also have no experience with RSS (and really websites in general), so I'm not sure where to go from here. What are the steps I need to take, starting from scratch, to add an RSS feed (with feedburner) to a website?

• YouTube: How to Style an AngularJS App on the Device

  I installed the Droid@Screen plugin into NetBeans IDE 8 so that you can see the Android device that I held in my hand while doing the demo below. The demo shows the usage of the Terminal window to create an Ionic Framework application (from "tabs", which is one of the cool templates that the framework provides), i.e., that means I can use AngularJS to create a Cordova application out of the box, with many mobile-oriented components available out of the box. Then I deploy the app to the Chrome browser on Android, which means I can interact with it in NetBeans, e.g., for CSS styling and JavaScript debugging. In this demo, I show how the background color of the deployed app can be changed live from NetBeans. After that, once I'm happy with the styling, I deploy the app again, but this time as a Cordova app, i.e., a hybrid HTML5 application, which means the app is packaged as a native app and deployed directly to the device from NetBeans. • How does Microsoft Detours work and how do I use it to get a stack trace?

  I am new to Microsoft Detours. I have installed it to trace the system calls a process makes. I run the following commands which I got from the web syelogd.exe /q C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\log.txt withdll.exe /d:traceapi.dll C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe I get the log file. The problem is I don't fully understand what is happening here. How does detours work? How does it trace the system calls? Also I don't know how to read the output in log.txt. Here is one line in log.txt 20101221060413329 2912 50.60: traceapi: 001 GetCurrentThreadId() Finally I want to get the stack trace of the process. How can I get that?

  Through work I have an Visual Studio Premium with MSDN subscription that I love. However, my biggest disappointment of the last 12 months was discovering that our 2nd from the top level subscription was not enough to get me Sketchflow! This is, most decidedly, NOT SHINY, and I am borderline distraught! What are my options? Upgrading to an Ultimate subscription for Sketchflow is out of the question. Am I forced, then, to stay with Blend 3 or Purchase Blend 4 seperately? If this is not a question I should ask here please inform and I'll delete. I just tend to default to SO for all questions that Google can't answer and Google did not answer this one.

  For my site I am using a login system much like the one on SO. A user can login with his Facebook, Google (Gmail openID), Twitter account. This question is not about specific oAuth or openID implementations. The question is how to know if the same user logins with different providers. Let me give an example: Bobo comes to site logins to site by clicking on "Login with Facebook". Because this is his first visit we create an account for him. Later Bobo comes to the site. This time he clicks on "Login with Google". So how do I know if this is the same person so I can add this provider to his account instead of creating a new (and duplicate) account. Can I trust solely on email? What is the best way to handle this. How does SO do it? Any ideas?

  Hi, I'm baffled. I'm trying to find suitable colors for a logo that would look similar across most monitors/screens. I know it's near impossible, but how does one end up with the color palette that new Google logo and Facebook "blue" uses for example? I've a monitor that has been calibrated, and a few laptop screens that have default settings. Yet both the Google logo and facebook's look similar (although they aren't using colors restricted to the web safe 216 palette. Any ideas? thoughts? Thanks
