• How do I marshal a pointer to an array of pointers to structures?

  I have a C function with the following signature: int my_function(int n, struct player **players) players is a pointer to an array of pointers to struct player objects. n is the number of pointers in the array. The function does not modify the array nor the contents of the structures, and it does not retain any pointers after returning. I tried the following: [DllImport("mylibary.dll")] static extern int my_function(int n, [In, MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPArray, SizeParamIndex = 0)] player_in []players); However, that marshals the data as a pointer to an array of structures, not a pointer to an array of pointers to structures.

• Single SQL Server Result Set from Query

  Hi Please advise on how to merge two results in to one using SQL Server 2005. I have the situation where an Account can have up to two Settlement Instructions and this have been modeled like so: The slim-ed down schema: Account --------------------- Id AccountName PrimarySettlementId (nullable) AlternateSettlementId (nullable) SettlementInstruction ---------------------- Id Name The output I want is a single result set with a select statement something along the lines of this which will allow me to construct some java objects in my Spring row mapper: select Account.Id as accountId, Account.AccountName as accountName, s1.Id as primarySettlementId, s1.Name as primarySettlementName, s2.Id as alternateSettlementId, s2.Name as alternateSettlementName I've tried various things but cannot find a way to get the result set merged in to one where the primary and alternate FK's are not null. Finally I have searched the forum, but nothing quite seems to fit with what I need.

• VS 2010 Entity Repository Error

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one.   Hi All I'm currently trying to write a Dump() method from LinqPad equivalent iin C# for my own amusment. I'm moving from Java to C# and this is an exercise rather than a business requirement. I've got almost everything working except for Dumping a Dictionary. The problem is that KeyValuePair is a Value type. For most other Value types I simply call the ToString method but this is insufficient as the KeyValuePair may contain Enumerables and other objects with undesirable ToString methods. So I need to work out if it's a KeyValuePair and then cast it. In Java I could use wildcard generics for this but I don't know the equivalent in C#. Your quest, given an object o, determine if it's a KeyValuePair and call Print on its key and value. Print(object o) { ... } Thanks!

  Hello There, I'm trying to figure out where I could drop in some PHP code to notify a CRM we are using (Solve360) that a new order has been placed, and that an event should be created (API) to fulfill the order. Order Product Checkout Complete Checkout & Capture CC Side notify CRM Done Not sure where to start, but I have had to make some small tweaks to fix the Quantum Gateway payment processor to work. In that module it appears that the objects for the order (email, amt, details) were available. However it seems it would be quite 'dirty' to insert more PHP code in there. Ideas? PHP 5.2.x & Magento 1.4.x

• How to create and restore a backup from SqlAlchemy?

  I'm writing a Pylons app, and am trying to create a simple backup system where every table is serialized and tarred up into a single file for an administrator to download, and use to restore the app should something bad happen. I can serialize my table data just fine using the SqlAlchemy serializer, and I can deserialize it fine as well, but I can't figure out how to commit those changes back to the database. In order to serialize my data I am doing this: from myproject.model.meta import Session from sqlalchemy.ext.serializer import loads, dumps q = Session.query(MyTable) serialized_data = dumps(q.all()) In order to test things out, I go ahead and truncation MyTable, and then attempt to restore using serialized_data: from myproject.model import meta restore_q = loads(serialized_data, meta.metadata, Session) This doesn't seem to do anything... I've tried calling a Session.commit after the fact, individually walking through all the objects in restore_q and adding them, but nothing seems to work. What am I missing? Or is there a better way to do what I'm aiming for? I don't want to shell out and directly touch the database, since SqlAlchemy supports different database engines.

  Question: I need to synchronize a few ActionScript files from my computer to a network share (backup). I saw a quick fix would be using Microsoft Sync Framework for this, and write a windows service. My problem is I also use Linux, and before I start with MS vendor lockin, is there any sync framework/library/whatever I could use that works accross platform? Or does the MS sync framework work on Linux, too? It is my understanding that it is a wrapper around some com objects, thus it wouldn't work. All I need is synchronizing files. So never mind the database part, although it would be nice to have it, too.

Now I need it to give the xml back to me as a string (rather than save it to a file). I am looking into it, but I have not figured it out yet. I thought this might be really easy for someone familiar with these objects. If not I will figure it out eventually.

• C# Elegant way to handle checking for an item in a collection.

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection . • iPhone memory management: a release after setting self.someProperty = nil

  I am reading the LazyTableImages code that Apple have released and they do something to this effect (in an NSOperation subclass): - (void)dealloc { [myProperty release]; [myProperty2 release]; } - (void)main { // // Parse operation undertaken here // self.myProperty = nil; self.myProperty2 = nil; } My thinking is that they do this in case dealloc is called before setting properties to nil. Is my thinking correct here? Are the releases unnecessary, as self.myProperty = nil effectively releases myProperty? One thing I have noticed in this code is that they don't release all retained objects in dealloc, only some of them, which is really the cause for my confusion. Cheers

Infor PM website It is apparently used by over 1,000 companies around the world, but I have found scant information about it on the net except for what's on their own website. It covers the whole range of data warehousing and BI functions with: an OLAP environment an ETL tool a report writer (called Application Studio) an add-on to Excel to connect to the data in the cubes through a pivot table etc Does anyone have any experience with using this package? How does it compare to the big players in BI (Cognos, Microsoft SSAS, Business Objects, etc). Any pitfalls I should know about? On the other hand, does it do anything better than its competitors?

  I have two classes A & B, and a listbox. I assign listBox.ItemsSource equal to a collection of objects of type A. The listbox items are visualized using silverlight data templating, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.datatemplate.aspx and http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/UserControlAsDataTemplate.aspx for example. The listbox.ItemTemplate is a DataTemplate that uses class B to visualize the listbox items. Now, in my code-behind, inside any method of class B, if I do this.DataContext, it points to an object of type A. Thus, given an object of type B, I can find the corresponding object of type A. So far so good. My question is, given an object of type A, how can I navigate to the corresponding object of type B? Is this even possible in SL?

• Realtime processing and callbacks with Python and C++

  I need to write code to do some realtime processing that is fairly computationally complex. I would like to create some Python classes to manage all my scripting, and leave the intensive parts of the algorithm coded in C++ so that they can run as fast as possible. I would like to instantiate the objects in Python, and have the C++ algorithms chime back into the script with callbacks in python. Something like: myObject = MyObject() myObject.setCallback(myCallback) myObject.run() def myCallback(val): """Do something with the value passed back to the python script.""" pass Will this be possible? How can I run a callback in python from a loop that is running in a C++ module? Anyone have a link or a tutorial to help me do this correctly?

• Java reduce CPU usage

  Greets- We gots a few nutters in work who enjoy using while(true) { //Code } in their code. As you can imagine this maxes out the CPU. Does anyone know ways to reduce the CPU utilization so that other people can use the server as well. The code itself is just constantly polling the internet for updates on sites. Therefore I'd imagine a little sleep method would greatly reduce the the CPU usage. Also all manipulation is being done in String objects (Java) anyone know how much StringBuilders would reduce the over head by? Thanks for any pointers

  I have a std::multiset which stores elements of class A. I have provided my own implementation of operator< for this class. My question is if I insert two equivalent objects into this multiset is their order guaranteed? For example, first I insert a object a1 into the set and then I insert an equivalent object a2 into this set. Can I expect the a1 to come before a2 when I iterate through the set? If no, is there any way to achieve this using multiset?

• Access is re-writing - and breaking - my query!

  I have a query in MS Access (2003) that makes use of a subquery. The subquery part looks like this: ...FROM (SELECT id, dt, details FROM all_recs WHERE def_cd="ABC-00123") AS q1,... And when I switch to Table View to verify the results, all is OK. Then, I wanted the result of this query to be printed on the page header for a report (the query returns a single row that is page-header stuff). I get an error because the query is suddenly re-written as: ...FROM [SELECT id, dt, details FROM all_recs WHERE def_cd="ABC-00123"; ] AS q1,... So it's Ok that the round brackets are automatically replaced by square brackets, Access feels it needs to do that, fine! But why is it adding the ; into the subquery, which causes it to fail? I suppose I could just create new query objects for these subqueries, but it seems a little silly that I should have to do that.

  I want to store a function as a class member and call it inside the class? Pretty much like a callback function. My class draw a document but every document must drawn differently. So I want to assign a function (written outside of the class) into one of the members of the class and then call it when I want to draw the document. This function mostly is responsible for transforming objects according to each specific document.   I implement a class hierarchy using STI pattern class A scope :aaa, where([someField]:[someValue]) end class B < A end The problem is that when I try to call something like: B.limit(5).aaa => SELECT "[table]".* FROM "[table]" WHERE "[table]"."type" IN ('A') AND ([someField] = [someValue]) LIMIT 5 So I am getting 5 objects of type A, which satisfies scope :aaa But I need to do the same with rows where type = "B" Is there any way to use scopes from parent, without redifinning it in childs in STI pattern? Thanks in advance EDITED I just discussed it with my frind and he showed me one important thing. A in not the root class of STI. IN fact whole hierarchy looks like class O < ActiveRecord::Base end class A < O scope ..... ..... end class B < A end maybe the reason is in hierarchy itself?...

• Sorting 1000-2000 elements with many cache misses

  I have an array of 1000-2000 elements which are pointers to objects. I want to keep my array sorted and obviously I want to do this as quick as possible. They are sorted by a member and not allocated contiguously so assume a cache miss whenever I access the sort-by member. Currently I'm sorting on-demand rather than on-add, but because of the cache misses and [presumably] non-inlining of the member access the inner loop of my quick sort is slow. I'm doing tests and trying things now, (and see what the actual bottleneck is) but can anyone recommend a good alternative to speeding this up? Should I do an insert-sort instead of quicksorting on-demand, or should I try and change my model to make the elements contigious and reduce cache misses? OR, is there a sort algorithm I've not come accross which is good for data that is going to cache miss?

• EGL initialized failed

  Hello Everybody, I used a SurfaceView and EGL to render my 3D contents. When I press BACK and return my activity, the activity's 3D objects become to white. The reason is when the original activity(3D activity) resume, EGL would initialize again. So EGL would initialize and destroy everytime when different activities switch. I am not sure if the problem is EGL initialize twice... but I did initialize and destroy EGL correctly. Anybody have this problem ? Have any solutions about this ?? Thank you so much

• Total Size of NSMutableArray object

  Hi Folks, I've got an NSMutableArray that holds a bunch of objects, what I'm trying to figure out is how much memory is the array using. After looking at a couple of places I know about the sizeof call, and when I make it I get 32 bits (which is the size of the NSMutableArray object it self). Example code: NSMutableArray *temp = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; [temp addObject:objectxyz]; [temp addObject:objectabc]; [temp addObject:object123]; now I want to know the size :) Thanks, Sj
