  • Separation of concerns and authentication

    I'm trying to be a Good Developer and separate my concerns out. I've got an ASP.NET MVC project with all my web code, and a DAL project with all the model code. Sometimes code in the DAL needs to check if the current user is authorized to perform some actions, by checking something like CurrentUser.IsAdmin. For the web site, the current is derived from the Windows username (from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity), but this is clearly a web concern and shouldn't be coupled to the DAL. What's the best pattern to loosely couple the authentication? Should the DAL be asking the MVC code for a username, or the MVC be telling the DAL? Are there advantages or disadvantages to one or the other? Thank you!

For example, is there is a zip code of '79854' in the Excel file, it will be imported as '79854.0'. I have tried finding a solution in this xlrd spec, but was unsuccessful.

However there is a coursework assigned to each module, and each coursework has a duedate which is unique to each intake.     We are planning to upgrade our Tomcat from 4.1.31. Our's is an Axis 1.4 application where we have our web services. Request you to suggest the latest stable version of Tomcat 5 or Tomcat 6 suitable for our application. And the things to consider while upgrading. Will the existing 1.4 Java code base works smoothly on Tomcat 5 or 6? And going further we may write the code in JDK 1.5 as well.   • IE browser doesn't close and file download popup needs focus

    Hii all , I am trying to to click on a link after it is active which again produces a popup ( file download) after clicking. Here i have 2 problems 1) I start the code and leave it .what the code does is -after long process -it waits for the link to be active .Once the link is active it clicks on the link and a download popups opens (if everything goes well) and then it hangs there ( showing yellow flashing in the task bar which mean i have to click on the explorer for it to process whatever is next ).every time i have to click on the IE whenever the download popup appears .Is there a way to handle this or am i doing some wrong ? 2) The next problem is even if i click on the IE .the IE doesn't get close even though i write ie.close . my code is below : ## if the link is active ie.link(:text,a).click_no_wait prompt_message = "Do you want to open or save this file?" window_title = "File Download" save_dialog =WIN32OLE.new("AutoItX3.Control") save_dialog.WinGetText(window_title) save_dialog_obtained =save_dialog.WinWaitActive(window_title) save_dialog.WinKill(window_title) # end #' #some more code -normal puts statements # ie.close ie is hanging up for some strange reason ..?

  • ClientLogin for Picasa Web Albums Data API with a Google App Domain login

    I'm using the Picasa Web Albums Data API to access users' photo albums from a WPF application. I've followed the code located here: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/clientlogin.html I have created a Picasa Web Albums account with a Google Apps (hosted) account. Whenever I tried logging in with my WPF application, I get the "BadAuthentication" error code returned. Hoping someone has an idea what I'm doing wrong. Note, that this works when I login with a normal Google account.   • Downloading PKPass in an iOS custom app from my server

    I've setup a server which returns a PKPass. If I copy the URL to the browser, a pass is shown (both in my Mac and in my iPhone). I don't know what is the bug... The pass seems ok when I download it with Safari and even the code seems ok (there are just 3 simple rows...) Someone experienced with Passkit could help me? EDIT: the weird thing is that the exact same code is working in a fresh new project

I need to pass my app secret, the auth code, and the original redirect URI to the Facebook access token endpoint. Since I did not initiate the authentication request, how do I determine the original redirect_uri?   • How close can I get C# to the performance of C++ for small intensive tasks?

    I was thinking about the speed difference of C++ to C# being mostly about C# compiling to byte-code that is taken in by the JIT compiler (is that correct?) and all the checks C# does. I notice that it is possible to turn a lot of these functions off, both in the compile options, and possibly through using the unsafe keyword as unsafe code is not verifiable by the common language runtime. Therefore if you were to write a simple console application in both languages, that flipped an imaginary coin an infinite number of times and displayed the results to the screen every 10,000 or so iterations, how much speed difference would there be? I chose this because it's a very simple program. I'd like to test this but I don't know C++ or have the tools to compile it. This is my C# version though: static void Main(string[] args) { unsafe { Random rnd = new Random(); int heads = 0, tails = 0; while (true) { if (rnd.NextDouble() > 0.5) heads++; else tails++; if ((heads + tails) % 1000000 == 0) Console.WriteLine("Heads: {0} Tails: {1}", heads, tails); } } } Is the difference enough to warrant deliberately compiling sections of code "unsafe" or into DLLs that do not have some of the compile options like overflow checking enabled? Or does it go the other way, where it would be beneficial to compile sections in C++? I'm sure interop speed comes into play too then. To avoid subjectivity, I reiterate the specific parts of this question as: Does C# have a performance boost from using unsafe code? Do the compile options such as disabling overflow checking boost performance, and do they affect unsafe code? Would the program above be faster in C++ or negligably different? Is it worth compiling long intensive number-crunching tasks in a language such as C++ or using /unsafe for a bonus? Less subjectively, could I complete an intensive operation faster by doing this?

  • How to reliably replace a library-defined error handler with my own?

    On certain error cases ATL invokes AtlThrow() which is implemented as ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which in turn throws CAtlException. The latter is not very good - CAtlException is not even derived from std::exception and also we use our own exceptions hierarchy and now we will have to catch CAtlException separately here and there which is lots of extra code and error-prone. Looks like it is possible to replace ATL::AtlThrowImpl() with my own handler - define _ATL_CUSTOM_THROW and define AtlThrow() to be the custom handler before including atlbase.h - and ATL will call the custom handler. Not so easy. Some of ATL code is not in sources - it comes compiled as a library - either static or dynamic. We use the static - atls.lib. And... it is compiled in such way that it has ATL::ThrowImpl() inside and some code calling it. I used a static analysis tool - it clearly shows that there're paths on which the old default handler is called. To ensure I even tried to "reimplement" ATL::AtlThrowImpl() in my code. Now the linker says it sees two declarations of ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which I suppose confirms that there's another implementation that can be called by some code. How can I handle this? How do I replace the default handler completely and ensure that the default handler is never called?

By default it points to public_html/mysite.net/ directory. Is it possible that it reads all the files (source code) from public_html directory itself.     In Windows, I can set the processor affinity of driver code using KeSetSystemAffinityThread, and check which processor my code is running on using KeGetCurrentProcessorNumber. I'm trying to do something similar in a Linux kernel module, but the only affinity calls I can see are for userland processes. Is there any way to do this, so that I can run assembly code on a specific processor? (i.e. sgdt)
