• Can't get NSTableView to display data.

- by Alberto
Hi! I see there are a lot of questions about this, but nothing helped me to get this work. I have a nib with a NSTableView with three columns (with the right identifiers set) and a class named ShortcutsTableController. In the nib I have a NSObject with class value ShortcutsTableController. I also connected the NSTableView to my controller as I usually do. This is header ShortcutsTableController.h. #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface ShortcutsTableController : NSObject <NSTableViewDataSource> { IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; NSMutableArray *shortcutsList; } - (int) numberOfRowsInTableView: (NSTableView*) tableView; - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(int)row; @property (assign) IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; - (void)setUpTable; @end And this is the implementation file ShortcutsTableController.m. #import "ShortcutsTableController.h" @implementation ShortcutsTableController @synthesize shortcutsTable; - (void)setUpTable { shortcutsList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSDictionary *dict1 = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"blabla", @"nameColumn", @"Bla bla bla", @"shortcutColumn", @"Ribla", @"actionColumn", nil]; [shortcutsList addObject:dict1]; [shortcutsTable setDataSource:self]; [shortcutsTable reloadData]; } -(int) numberOfRowsInTableView: (NSTableView *) tableView { return [shortcutsList count]; } - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(int)row { if (row != -1) return [[shortcutsList objectAtIndex:row] objectForKey:[tableColumn identifier]]; return nil; } @end But when i try to build nothing appears in the NSTableView. No errors, no warnings. Note that I call setUpTable from within the Delegate Class Method awakeFromNib. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thank you for you help. —Albé UPDATE. Added lines @property (assign) IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; in header and @synthesize shortcutsTable; in implementation. Nothing changes. :(

• Filemaker to SQL Server via SSIS

- by TexasT
I'm using SSIS and trying to import data from Filelmaker into SQL Server. In the Solution Explorer, I right click on "SSIS Packages" and select SQL Server Import and Export Wizard". During the process, I use my DSN as the source, SQL Server as the destination, use a valid query to pull data from Filemaker, and set the mappings. Each time I try to run the package, I receive the following message: The "output column "LastNameFirst" (12)" has a length that is not valide. The length must be between 0 and 4000. I do not understand this error exactly, but in the documentation for ODBC: http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/fm9%5Fodbc%5Fjdbc%5Fguide%5Fen.pdf (page 47) it states: "The maximum column length of text is 1 million characters, unless you specify a smaller Maximum number of characters for the text field in FileMaker. FileMaker returns empty strings as NULL." I'm thinking that the data type is too large when trying to convert it to varchar. But even after using a query of SUBSTR(LastNameFirst, 1, 2000), I get the same error. Any suggestions?

• JSF 2 Annotations with Websphere 7 (JEE5, JAVA 1.6)

- by gerges
Hey all, I'm currently writing a simple JSF 2 app for WAS 7. When I define the bean via the faces-config.xml, everything works great <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>personBean</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>com.prototype.beans.PersonBean</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope> </managed-bean> When I try to use the annotations below instead, the app failes. package com.prototype.beans; import javax.faces.bean.ManagedBean; import javax.faces.bean.RequestScoped; @ManagedBean(name="personBean") @RequestScoped public class PersonBean { .... } I've set the WAS classloader to Parent Last, and verified in the logs that Mojarra 2.x is loading. • UIViewerTableViewController.m:15: error: expected identifier before '*' token

I am new to objective-c programming. I come from a C# background. I am having problems with the following code I am writing for a proof of concept for an iPhone App: I am getting a number of compile errors but I think they are all due to the first error (could be wrong) - error: expected identifier before '*' token (@synthesize *lists; in the .m file) I'm not sure why my code is showing up the way it is in the view below the editor..hmm any way, any help would be appreciated. .m file // // Created by Aaron Levin on 4/19/10. // Copyright 2010 RonStan. • sqlalchemy date type in 0.6 migration using mssql

- by nosklo
I'm connection to mssql server through pyodbc, via FreeTDS odbc driver, on linux ubuntu 10.04. Sqlalchemy 0.5 uses DATETIME for sqlalchemy.Date() fields. Now Sqlalchemy 0.6 uses DATE, but sql server 2000 doesn't have a DATE type. How can I make DATETIME be the default for sqlalchemy.Date() on sqlalchemy 0.6 mssql+pyodbc dialect? I'd like to keep it as clean as possible. Here's code to reproduce the issue: import sqlalchemy from sqlalchemy import Table, Column, MetaData, Date, Integer, create_engine engine = create_engine( 'mssql+pyodbc://sa:sa@myserver/mydb?driver=FreeTDS') m = MetaData(bind=engine) tb = sqlalchemy.Table('test_date', m, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True), Column('dt', Date()) ) tb.create() And here is the traceback I'm getting: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/tmp/teste.py", line 15, in <module> tb.create() File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/schema.py", line 428, in create bind.create(self, checkfirst=checkfirst) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1647, in create connection=connection, **kwargs) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1682, in _run_visitor **kwargs).traverse_single(element) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/sql/visitors.py", line 77, in traverse_single return meth(obj, **kw) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/ddl.py", line 58, in visit_table self.connection.execute(schema.CreateTable(table)) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1157, in execute params) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1210, in _execute_ddl return self.__execute_context(context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1268, in __execute_context context.parameters[0], context=context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1367, in _cursor_execute context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1360, in _cursor_execute context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/default.py", line 277, in do_execute cursor.execute(statement, parameters) sqlalchemy.exc.ProgrammingError: (ProgrammingError) ('42000', '[42000] [FreeTDS][SQL Server]Column or parameter #2: Cannot find data type DATE. • RichFaces demo dataTableScrollerBean.java location

- by Mark Lewis
Hello, I've noticed from here that the contents is only the header Revision 16532: /tags/3.3.2.SR1/samples/richfaces-demo/src/main/java/org/richfaces/demo/dataTableScroller and no listing of the dataTableScrollerBean.java file which the Edit Table/Modal Panel demo JSF code refers to. Where can I access it? I'd like to try the demo out on my machine. I've posted to RichFaces but SO tends to respond faster. Thanks Mark EDIT I've found some code (here) on a forum fortunately which is as close as I've come so far. Looks like it was written by one of the RichFaces authors, but when I included it, Eclipse is complaining about the Facet object which together with another forum and these import javax.ejb.Stateful; import javax.ejb.Stateless; suggest I may be missing j2ee.jar. But I'm running this out of Tomcat which is not an ejb container. I didn't think this RichFaces component required JBoss or equivalent so I must be doing something wrong. All I'm trying to do is try out an Edit Table! Thanks

• RotatingFileHandler throws an exception when delay parameter is set

- by Eli Courtwright
When I run the following code under Python 2.6 import logging from logging.handlers import RotatingFileHandler rfh = RotatingFileHandler("testing.log", delay=True) logging.getLogger().addHandler(rfh) logging.warning("Boo!") then the last line throws AttributeError: RotatingFileHandler instance has no attribute 'level'. So I add the line rfh.setLevel(logging.DEBUG) before the call to addHandler, and then the last line throws AttributeError: RotatingFileHandler instance has no attribute 'filters'. So if I manually set filters to be an empty list, then it complains about not having the attribute lock, etc. When I remove the delay=True to leave it as the default value of False as documented here, the problem completely goes away. Am I missing something? How do I properly use the delay parameter of the RotatingFileHandler class? EDIT: Upon further analysis (presented in my own answer below), this looks like a bug, but I can't find a bug report on this in the Python bug tracker, even trying different search terms, so I guess I'll report it. However, if someone can locate the actual bug report, then I can avoid submitting a duplicate reporting and wasting the time of the Python developers. I'll hold off on reporting the bug for a few hours, and if someone posts an answer that has the current bug report, then I'll accept that answer for this question.

• Using events in an external swf to load a new external swf

- by wdense51
Hi I'm trying to get an external swf to load when the flv content of another external swf finishes playing. I've only been using actiosncript 3 for about a week and I've got to this point from tutorials, so my knowledge is limited. This is what I've got so far: Code for External swf (with flv content): import fl.video.FLVPlayback; import fl.video.VideoEvent; motionClip.playPauseButton = player; motionClip.seekBar = seeker; motionClip.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, goNext); function goNext(e:VideoEvent):void { nextFrame(); } And this is the code for the main file: var Xpos:Number=110; var Ypos:Number=110; var swf_MC:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); var loader:Loader = new Loader(); var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("arch_reel.swf"); addChild (swf_MC); swf_MC.x=Xpos swf_MC.y=Ypos loader.load(defaultSWF); swf_MC.addChild(loader); //Btns Universal Function function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void{ SoundMixer.stopAll(); swf_MC.removeChild(loader); var newSWFRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("motion.swf"); loader.load(newSWFRequest); swf_MC.addChild(loader); } function returnSWF(event:Event):void{ swf_MC.removeChild(loader); loader.load(defaultSWF); swf_MC.addChild(loader); } //Btn Listeners motion.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,btnClick); swf_MC.addEventListener(swf_MC.motionClip.Event.COMPLETE,swf_MC.motionClip.eventClip, returnSWF); I'm starting to get an understanding of how all of this works, but it's all to new to me at the moment, so I'm sure I've approached it from the wrong angle. Any help would be fantastic, as I've been trying at this for a few days now. Thanks

• How to right-justify icon in a JLabel?

- by geoffreyzheng
For a JLabel with icon, if you setHorizontalTextPosition(SwingConstants.LEADING), the icon is painted right after text, no matter how wide the label is. This is particularly bad for a list, as the icons would be all over the place depending on how long the text is for each item. I traced the code and it seems to be that in SwingUtilities#layoutCompoundLabelImpl, text width is simply set to SwingUtilities2.stringWidth(c, fm, text), and icon x is set to follow text without considering label width. Here is the simplest case: import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; public class TestJLabelIcon { public static void main(String args[]) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { JLabel c = new JLabel("abc"); c.setHorizontalTextPosition(SwingConstants.LEADING); c.setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.LEADING); c.setIcon(UIManager.getIcon("FileChooser.detailsViewIcon")); c.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.RED)); JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE ); frame.getContentPane().add(c); frame.pack(); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setVisible(true); } }); } } You can see that label always fills the frame but icon stays put. You'll get the mirror problem if you set both arguments to TRAILING. I know I can override the UI, or use a JPanel, etc. I just wonder if I'm missing something simple in JLabel. If not, it seems like a Java bug. FYI this is jdk1.6.0_06 on Windows XP.

• How to access Actionscript from Javascript in Adobe AIR

- by David Robinson
I have an AIR application written in html/javascript and I want to use the Actionscript print functions but I have no experience in Actionscript for AIR. Where do I put the Actionscript code ? Does it go into an mxml file or does it need to be compiled into a Flash application. Where do I put it and how do I include it into the html document ? Finally, how do I call the AS function from Javascript ? =====update===== I know I have to compile either an .mxml or .as file into .swf using mxmlc and I have the following in my .as file: package { import mx.controls.Alert; public class HelloWorld { public function HelloWorld():void { trace("Hello, world!"); } } } Or alternately, this in a .mxml file: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:Script> import mx.controls.Alert; public function HelloWorld():void { Alert.show("hello world!"); trace("Hello, world!"); } </mx:Script> </mx:Application> This compiles OK, but when I include it in a html file with: I get the following error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.managers::FocusManager/activate() at mx.managers::SystemManager/activateForm() at mx.managers::SystemManager/activate() at mx.core::Application/initManagers() at mx.core::Application/initialize() at actionscript/initialize() at mx.managers::SystemManager/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::childAdded() at mx.managers::SystemManager/initializeTopLevelWindow() at mx.managers::SystemManager/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::docFrameHandler() at mx.managers::SystemManager/docFrameListener() Any ideas what that means ?

• Scrapy issue with iTunes' AppStore

- by Eric
I am using Scrapy to fetch some data from iTunes' AppStore database. I start with this list of apps: http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/mobile-software-applications/id36?mt=8 In the following code I have used the simplest regex which targets all apps in the US store. from scrapy.contrib.linkextractors.sgml import SgmlLinkExtractor from scrapy.contrib.spiders import CrawlSpider, Rule class AppStoreSpider(CrawlSpider): domain_name = 'itunes.apple.com' start_urls = ['http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/mobile-software-applications/id6015?mt=8'] rules = ( Rule(SgmlLinkExtractor(allow='itunes\.apple\.com/us/app'), 'parse_app', follow=True, ), ) def parse_app(self, response): .... SPIDER = AppStoreSpider() When I run it I receive the following: [itunes.apple.com] DEBUG: Crawled (200) <GET http://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/mobile-software-applications/id6015?mt=8> (referer: None) [itunes.apple.com] DEBUG: Filtered offsite request to 'itunes.apple.com': <GET http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bloomberg/id281941097?mt=8> As you can see, when it starts crawling the first page it says: "Filtered offsite request to 'itunes.apple.com'". and then the spider stops.. it also returns this message: [ScrapyHTTPPageGetter, client] /usr/lib/python2.5/cookielib.py:1577: exceptions.UserWarning: cookielib bug! • Handling 2 buttons submit Actions in a single View/Form - ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM

- by Leniel Macaferi
I have a View in which the user is able to upload a file to the server. In this view I also have 2 buttons: one to Upload a file and other to Download the last file imported. In my Controller I created 2 action methods: Import and Export. How could I manage to redirect each button click to the proper action method in my Controller? I have tried Html.ActionLink: <%= Html.ActionLink("Upload", "Import", "OracleFile")%> <%= Html.ActionLink("Download", "Export", "OracleFile")%> Html.ActionLink didn't do the trick. The action links were taking me to the right Action methods but they were generating a GET request. This way Request.Files.Count = 0. I need a POST request. Note: the most intriguing part is that the upload was working and all of sudden it stopped working. I've seen that some people are having the same problem with FileUpload tasks in which the Request.Files is always Empty. I think it's empty because you need a post to the server. Isn't it?

• array retain question

- by Cosizzle
Hello, im fairly new to objective-c, most of it is clear however when it comes to memory managment I fall a little short. Currently what my application does is during a NSURLConnection when the method -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection is called upon I enter a method to parse some data, put it into an array, and return that array. However I'm not sure if this is the best way to do so since I don't release the array from memory within the custom method (method1, see the attached code) Below is a small script to better show what im doing .h file #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface memoryRetainTestViewController : UIViewController { NSArray *mainArray; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *mainArray; @end .m file #import "memoryRetainTestViewController.h" @implementation memoryRetainTestViewController @synthesize mainArray; // this would be the parsing method -(NSArray*)method1 { // ???: by not release this, is that bad. Or does it get released with mainArray NSArray *newArray = [[NSArray alloc] init]; newArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"apple",@"orange", @"grapes", "peach", nil]; return newArray; } // this method is actually // -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection -(void)method2 { mainArray = [self method1]; } // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { mainArray = nil; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [mainArray release]; [super dealloc]; } @end

• iPhone: CATiledLayer/UIScrollView wont scroll after zooming and only zooms to anchor point

- by Brodie4598
Here is the problem... I am using CA Tiled Layer to display a large jpg. The view loads okay, and when I go to scroll around, it works fine. However, as soon as I zoom in or out once, it scrolls to the top left (to the anchor point) and will not scroll at all. The zooming works fine, but I just cannot scroll. Here is my code: #import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h> #import "PracticeViewController.h" @implementation practiceViewController //@synthesize image; - (void)viewDidLoad { NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"H-5" ofType:@"jpg"]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:path]; image = [UIImage imageWithData:data]; CGRect pageRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, image.size.width, image.size.height); CATiledLayer *tiledLayer = [CATiledLayer layer]; tiledLayer.anchorPoint = CGPointMake(0.0f, 1.0f); tiledLayer.delegate = self; tiledLayer.tileSize = CGSizeMake(1000, 1000); tiledLayer.levelsOfDetail = 6; tiledLayer.levelsOfDetailBias = 0; tiledLayer.bounds = pageRect; tiledLayer.transform = CATransform3DMakeScale(1.0f, -1.0f, 0.3f); myContentView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds]; [myContentView.layer addSublayer:tiledLayer]; UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds]; scrollView.delegate = self; scrollView.contentSize = pageRect.size; scrollView.minimumZoomScale = .2; scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 1; [scrollView addSubview:myContentView]; [self.view addSubview:scrollView]; } - (UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { return myContentView; } - (void)drawLayer:(CALayer *)layer inContext:(CGContextRef)ctx { NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"H-5" ofType:@"jpg"]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:path]; image = [UIImage imageWithData:data]; CGRect imageRect = CGRectMake (0.0, 0.0, image.size.width, image.size.height); CGContextDrawImage (ctx, imageRect, [image CGImage]); } @end

• QWebView not loading external resources

- by Nick
Hi. I'm working on a kiosk web browser using Qt and PyQt4. QWebView seems to work quite well except for one quirk. If a URL fails to load for any reason, I want to redirect the user to a custom error page. I've done this using the loadFinished() signal to check the result, and change the URL to the custom page if necessary using QWebView.load(). However, any page I attempt to load here fails to pull in external resources like CSS or images. Using QWebView.load() to set the initial page at startup seems to work fine, and clicking any link on the custom error page will result in the destination page loading fine. It's just the error page that doesn't work. I'm really not sure where to go next. I've included the source for an app that will replicate the problem below. It takes a URL as a command line argument - a valid URL will display correctly, a bad URL (eg. DNS resolution fails) will redirect to Google, but with the logo missing. import sys from PyQt4 import QtGui, QtCore, QtWebKit class MyWebView(QtWebKit.QWebView): def __init__(self, parent=None): QtWebKit.QWebView.__init__(self, parent) self.resize(800, 600) self.load(QtCore.QUrl(sys.argv[1])) self.connect(self, QtCore.SIGNAL('loadFinished(bool)'), self.checkLoadResult) def checkLoadResult(self, result): if (result == False): self.load(QtCore.QUrl('http://google.com')) app = QtGui.QApplication(sys.argv) main = MyWebView() main.show() sys.exit(app.exec_()) If anyone could offer some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

The crash causing lines seem to be //var uiColor:uint = bmpd.getPixel(i,j); var uiColor:uint = bmpd.getPixel32(i,j); trace("Color: "+ uiColor); I am trying to take a snapshot of a movieclip and iterate through all pixels in the image and get the pixel's color. import flash.display.BitmapData; import flash.geom.*; function takeSnapshot(mc:MovieClip):BitmapData { var sp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(mc.width, mc.height, true, 0x000000); sp.draw(mc, new Matrix(), new ColorTransform(), "normal"); return sp; } var mcMyClip:MovieClip=new MovieClip() var xxx:cMovieClipLoader=new cMovieClipLoader(); xxx.LoadImageAbsSize(mcMyClip,"http://localhost/flash/images/picture.gif", 500,500) //this.addChild(mcMyClip); function WhenImageIsLoaded() { var bmpd:BitmapData=takeSnapshot(mcMyClip); var i,j:uint; for(i=0; i < bmpd.width;++i) { for(j=0; j < bmpd.height;++j) { //var uiColor:uint = bmpd.getPixel(i,j); var uiColor:uint = bmpd.getPixel32(i,j); trace("Color: "+ uiColor); } } var myBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bmpd); this.addChild(myBitmap); } setTimeout(WhenImageIsLoaded,1000);

• Array variable initialization error in Java

- by trinity
Hello I am trying to write a Java program that reads an input file consisting of URLs, extracts tokens from these, and keeps track of how many times each token appears in the file. I've written the following code: import java.io.*; import java.net.*; public class Main { static class Tokens { String name; int count; } public static void main(String[] args) { String url_str,host; String htokens[]; URL url; boolean found=false; Tokens t[]; int i,j,k; try { File f=new File("urlfile.txt"); FileReader fr=new FileReader(f); BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(fr); while((url_str=br.readLine())!=null) { url=new URL(url_str); host=url.getHost(); htokens=host.split("\\.|\\-|\\_|\\~|[0-9]"); for(i=0;i<htokens.length;i++) { if(!htokens[i].isEmpty()) { for(j=0;j<t.length;j++) { if(htokens[i].equals(t[j].name)) { t[j].count++; found=true; } } if(!found) { k=t.length; t[k].name=htokens[i]; t[k].count=1; } } } System.out.println(t.length + "class tokens :"); for(i=0;i<t.length;i++) { System.out.println( "name :"+t[i].name+" frequency :"+t[i].count); } } br.close(); fr.close(); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println(e); } } } But when I run it, it says: variable t not initialized.. What should I do to set it right?

• Building Web Application project using MSBuild from command line on 64-bit: missing targets file

- by James Allen
Building a solution containing a web application project using MSBuild from powershell like this: msbuild "/p:OutDir=$build_dir\" $solution_file Works fine for me on 32-bit, but on a 64-bit machine I am running into this error: error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and powershell v2. The problem has already been documented here and here. Basically on 64-bit install of VS, the Microsoft.WebApplication.targets needed by MSBuild is in the Program Files(x86) dir, not the Program Files dir, but MSBuild doesn't recognise this and so looks in the wrong place. The two solutions are not ideal: Manually copy the file on 64-bit from Program Files(x86) to Program Files. This is a poor solution - every dev will have to do this manually. Manually edit the csproj file so MSBuild looks in the right place. Again not ideal: I would rather not have to get everyone on 64bit to manually edit csproj files on every new project. e.g. <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)" Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)')" /> Ideally I want a way to tell MSBuild to import the target file form the right place from the command line but I can't work out how to do that. Any solutions?

• Default class for SQLAlchemy single table inheritance

- by eclaird
I've set up a single table inheritance, but I need a "default" class to use when an unknown polymorphic identity is encountered. The database is not in my control and so the data can be pretty much anything. A working example setup: import sqlalchemy as sa from sqlalchemy import orm engine = sa.create_engine('sqlite://') metadata = sa.MetaData(bind=engine) table = sa.Table('example_types', metadata, sa.Column('id', sa.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column('type', sa.Integer), ) metadata.create_all() class BaseType(object): pass class TypeA(BaseType): pass class TypeB(BaseType): pass base_mapper = orm.mapper(BaseType, table, polymorphic_on=table.c.type, polymorphic_identity=None, ) orm.mapper(TypeA, inherits=base_mapper, polymorphic_identity='A', ) orm.mapper(TypeB, inherits=base_mapper, polymorphic_identity='B', ) Session = orm.sessionmaker(autocommit=False, autoflush=False) session = Session() Now, if I insert a new unmapped identity... engine.execute('INSERT INTO EXAMPLE_TYPES (TYPE) VALUES (\'C\')') session.query(BaseType).first() ...things break. Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/orm/query.py", line 1619, in first ret = list(self[0:1]) File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/orm/query.py", line 1528, in __getitem__ return list(res) File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/orm/query.py", line 1797, in instances rows = [process[0](row, None) for row in fetch] File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/orm/mapper.py", line 2179, in _instance _instance = polymorphic_instances[discriminator] File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/util.py", line 83, in __missing__ self[key] = val = self.creator(key) File ".../SQLAlchemy-0.6.5-py2.6.egg/sqlalchemy/orm/mapper.py", line 2341, in configure_subclass_mapper discriminator) AssertionError: No such polymorphic_identity u'C' is defined What I expected: >>> result = session.query(BaseType).first() >>> result <BaseType object at 0x1c8db70> >>> result.type u'C' I think this used to work with some older version of SQLAlchemy, but I haven't been keeping up with the development lately. Any pointers on how to accomplish this?

• C++: Explicit DLL Loading: First-chance Exception on non "extern C" functions

- by Shiftbit
I am having trouble importing my C++ functions. If I declare them as C functions I can successfully import them. When explicit loading, if any of the functions are missing the extern as C decoration I get a the following exception: First-chance exception at 0x00000000 in cpp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation. DLL.h: extern "C" __declspec(dllimport) int addC(int a, int b); __declspec(dllimport) int addCpp(int a, int b); DLL.cpp: #include "DLL.h" int addC(int a, int b) { return a + b; } int addCpp(int a, int b) { return a + b; } main.cpp: #include "..DLL/DLL.h" #include <stdio.h> #include <windows.h> int main() { int a = 2; int b = 1; typedef int (*PFNaddC)(int,int); typedef int (*PFNaddCpp)(int,int); HMODULE hDLL = LoadLibrary(TEXT("../Debug/DLL.dll")); if (hDLL != NULL) { PFNaddC pfnAddC = (PFNaddC)GetProcAddress(hDLL, "addC"); PFNaddCpp pfnAddCpp = (PFNaddCpp)GetProcAddress(hDLL, "addCpp"); printf("a=%d, b=%d\n", a,b); printf("pfnAddC: %d\n", pfnAddC(a,b)); printf("pfnAddCpp: %d\n", pfnAddCpp(a,b)); //EXCEPTION ON THIS LINE } getchar(); return 0; } How can I import c++ functions for dynamic loading? I have found that the following code works with implicit loading by referencing the *.lib, but I would like to learn about dynamic loading. Thank you to all in advance.

• How to publish an ASP.NET MVC website

- by Luke Puplett
Hello -- I've a site that I'd like to publish to a co-located live server. I'm finding this simple task quite hard. My problems begin with the Web Deploy tool (1.1) giving me a 401 Unauthorized as the adminstrator because port :8172 comes up in the errors and this port is blocked - but the documentation says "The default ListenURL is http://+:80/MsDeployAgentService"! I'm loathe to open another port and I've little patience these days so I thought bu66er it, I'll create a Web Deploy package and import it into IIS on the server over RDP. I notice first that Visual Studio doesn't use a dialog box to gather settings, or use my Publish profiles but seems to use a tab in the project properties, although I think these are ignored when importing the package anyway? I'm now sitting in the import wizard with Application Path and Connection String. I've cleared the conn string as I think this is for some ASP stuff I don't use but when I enter nothing in the Application Path, the wizard barks at me saying that basically I'm a weirdo because most people publish to folders beneath the root site. Now, I want my site to be site.com/Home/About and not site.com/subfolder/Home/About and I think being an MVC routed site that a subfolder will introduce other headaches. Should I go ahead and use the root? Finally, I also want to publish a web service to www.site.com/services/soap which I think IIS can handle. While typing this question, Amazon have delivered my IIS 7 Resource Kit, and I've been scouring the internet but actually I'm getting more confused. Comment here seems to show consensus opinion that Publish isn't for production sites and that real men roll their own. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/260525/asp-net-website-publish-vs-web-deployment-project ...I guess this was pre- Web Deployment Tool era? I'm going to experiment on a spare box for now but any assistance is welcome. Luke

• Typedef and Struct in C and H files

- by Leif Andersen
I've been using the following code to create various struct, but only give people outside of the C file a pointer to it. (Yes, I know that they could potentially mess around with it, so it's not entirely like the private keyword in Java, but that's okay with me). Anyway, I've been using the following code, and I looked at it today, and I'm really surprised that it's actually working, can anyone explain why this is? In my C file, I create my struct, but don't give it a tag in the typedef namespace: struct LABall { int x; int y; int radius; Vector velocity; }; And in the H file, I put this: typedef struct LABall* LABall; I am obviously using #import "LABall.h" in the c file, but I am NOT using #import "LABall.c" in the header file, as that would defeat the whole purpose of a separate header file. So, why am I able to create a pointer to the LABall* struct in the H file when I haven't actually included it? Does it have something to do with the struct namespace working accross files, even when one file is in no way linked to another? Thank you.

• Django custom managers - how do I return only objects created by the logged-in user?

- by Tom Tom
I want to overwrite the custom objects model manager to only return objects a specific user created. Admin users should still return all objects using the objects model manager. Now I have found an approach that could work. They propose to create your own middleware looking like this: #### myproject/middleware/threadlocals.py try: from threading import local except ImportError: # Python 2.3 compatibility from django.utils._threading_local import local _thread_locals = local() def get_current_user(): return getattr(_thread_locals, 'user', None) class ThreadLocals(object): """Middleware that gets various objects from the request object and saves them in thread local storage.""" def process_request(self, request): _thread_locals.user = getattr(request, 'user', None) #### end And in the Custom manager you could call the get_current_user() method to return only objects a specific user created. class UserContactManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(UserContactManager, self).get_query_set().filter(creator=get_current_user()) Is this a good approach to this use-case? Will this work? Or is this like "using a sledgehammer to crack a nut" ? ;-) Just using: Contact.objects.filter(created_by= user) in each view doesn`t look very neat to me. EDIT Do not use this middleware approach !!! use the approach stated by Jack M. below After a while of testing this approach behaved pretty strange and with this approach you mix up a global-state with a current request. Use the approach presented below. It is really easy and no need to hack around with the middleware. create a custom manager in your model with a function that expects the current user or any other user as an input. #in your models.py class HourRecordManager(models.Manager): def for_user(self, user): return self.get_query_set().filter(created_by=user) class HourRecord(models.Model): #Managers objects = HourRecordManager() #in vour view you can call the manager like this and get returned only the objects from the currently logged-in user. hr_set = HourRecord.objects.for_user(request.user)
