• Getting a java collection of objects in Alphabetical order

  I have a question that I dont really know where to start. So I thought i'd ask it here. Basically, I have a drop down with names in it. I want these names to be in alphabetical order. Populating the drop down happens as follows; I query a database and pull down an Id and Name, make a object called "UserList", and set the name and id variables with what I get back. I then add this object to an ArrayList. I do this over and over. I then convert this collection to an array, and pass it to my JSP page using session.setAttribute("userList", UserList); I then populate the drop down as below. <c:forEach items="${usersCompanysList}" var="c" > There probably is a simple answer but how to I sort these names?

• fields_for to stop pluralizing.

  I have a fields_for tag, where I specify the prefix (lets say for some good reasons), and this is supposed to represent a one-to-one relationship. I am trying to represent a relationship widget has_many thingamagigs thingamagig has_one whatchamacallit The field_for code is: fields_for "widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][][whatchamacallit_attributes]", thingamagig.whatchamacallit do |x| which generates names (wrongly): widget[thingamagigs_attributes][][whatchamacallit_attributes][][value] The better solution would be t.fields_for :whatchamacallit do |x| where t = fields_for the thingamagig... However if I do that, the following names are generated widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][whatchamacallit_attributes][] which is completely wrong as all other fields for a thingamagig is... widgt[thingamagigs_attributes][][name] So in all cases I am screwed. The original field_for using a string cannot be used with accepts_nested_attributes_for :whatchamacallit since whatchamacallit is a singular relationship and an object is expected not an array. The second fields_for will simply not work because rails cannot parse the params object correctly. Is there a way to tell the first forms_for to not add the [] after [whatchamacallit_attributes] in all field names?

• Why is this NaN to javascript?

  I have this object printed with console.log Array[1] 0: Object address: "blablabalbala" datatype: "Location" icon: "cafetaria" id: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" kind: "Mensa" lat: 50.777016 lon: 6.080348 sortkey: "zeltmensa, forum cafete" stationId: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" title: "Zeltmensa, Forum Cafete" type: "Mensa" But console.log("nav to: "+data[0].lat+" "+data[0].lon); gives me undefined undefined, and at another point NaN NaN.. I don't understand this. It also doesn't let me use any other attributes like data[0].addresse, which returns undefined aswell. Thanks for help.

  I got a ton of movieclips in a class. I want to turn every single instance in the class interludeIntro invisible, but I want to turn specific instances visible later. • How to make a jquery lightbox open multiple images from one link?

  Using a lightbox like ColorBox or jQuery Lightbox Plugin how can i make a single link which opens a gallery / array of images? For example i have 1 thumbnail and when a user clicks it i want it to open multiple pictures in the lightbox so the user can click next or previous to view all the pictures within that gallery. My thinking was that i just do it as normal 1 link to 1 picture then use jquery to hide all but the first link. There must be a better way? Thanks.

This doesn't tell you anything as you posed an OR statement. if(cash || credit) With humans it's possible that they might respond "Both" to that question, or "Only {cash | credit}." Is there a way (or operator) to force the a statement to return the TRUE portions of a statement?   I have a long HTML text-only article formatted with paragraph tags. What I'd like to do is break this content into N number of divs so that I can create individual pages. So, for instance, on an iPad/iPhone, instead of reading one long page the user could swipe right/left to navigate to pages. My initial javascript attempts have been somewhat convoluted: creating an array of the text, measuring line-heights, device window heights, adding closing/opening paragraph tags and the end/beginning of pages. Thoughts on a good way to approach this? I will not have access to server-side processing, this has to be a client-side solution.

  Just 20 minutes age when I answered a question, I come up with an interesting scenario that I'm not sure of the behavior: Let me have an integer array of size n, pointed by intPtr; int* intPtr; and let me also have a struct like this: typedef struct { int val1; int val2; //and less or more integer declarations goes on like this(not any other type) }intStruct; My question is if I do a cast intStruct* structPtr = (intStruct*) intPtr; Am I sure to get every element correctly if I traverse the elements of the struct? Is there any possibility of miss-alignment(possible because of padding) in any architecture/compiler?

  Hello, my question is how would i be able to go through a string and take out only the links and erase all the rest? I thought about using some type of delemiter, but wouldnt know how to go about using it in java. an example of what i am trying to do: this is my String: String myString = "The file is http: // www. .com/hello.txt and the second file is " + "http: // www. .com/hello2.dat"; I would want the output to be: "http: // www. .com/hello.txt http: // www. .com/hello2.dat" or each could be added to an array, separately. I just want some ideas, id like to write the code myself but am having trouble on how to do it. Any help would be awesome.

• Creating a JSONRepresentation of my NSDictionary messes up the order?

  Hi all, To pass data to my webservice, I create an NSDictionary with the objects and keys I need, and use JSONRepresentation to format it nicely so I can post it to my service. It all worked fine with the previous version where only 2 parameters were required. An array with listitems, and a UDID. No I also need to pass a version number because we need to provide more data for people with the application at this new version. Only problem is when I create my JSONRepresentation now, the order of things are all messed up. NSMutableDictionary *rowDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys:arrayDict,@"basketListV2",sharedData.udid,@"UDID",@"1.4",@"version",nil]; It prints out version first, then UDID and then basketListV2. Anyone know what I can do to maintain the order of my NSDict? I tried both NSDictionary and NSMutableDictionary (Probably doesn't have to do anything with it but for testing purposes I had to try it.) Thanks in advance. Lewion

  Hi! I'm writing a small C application that launchs a Matlab script (.m file). I need to exchange some variables and I don't know how to get an array of chars that exists in Matlab. "'"; } } I need to work in a bit at the top so that if the directory doesnt exist it defaults to the images sat in the root of the background directory... Any help would be appreciated.

• Why does set key not do anything in AES/SymmetricAlgorithm?

  This MESSED ME UP hard. I thought i was setting the key but i was not. No exceptions, nothing happen except bad results. Why is there a setter if everything is ignored and no exceptions are thrown when i attempt to write? What is the point of the setter on the Keys property? When i do the below Key value are not changed. After an hour when i realize what was happening i wrote the loop to verify. I also tried aes.Key[0] = val; var b = val == aes.Key[0]; (and messed with it in immediate mode). Why does it have this behavior? • Strings - Filling In Leading Zeros Wtih A Zero

  I'm reading an array of hard-coded strings of numeric characters - all positions are filled with a character, even for the leading zeros. Thus, can confidently parse it using substring(start, end) to convert to numeric. Example: "0123 0456 0789" However, a string coming from a database does not fill in the leading zero with a 'zero character', it simply fetches the '123 456 789', which is correct for an arithmetic number but not for my needs and makes for parsing trouble. Before writing conditionals to check for leading zeros and adding them to the string if needed, is there a simple way of specifying they be filled with a character ? I'm not finding this in my Java book... I could have done the three conditionals in the time it took to post this but, this is more about 'education'... Thanks

• Multiplying numbers on horizontal, vertial, and diagonal lines

  I'm currently working on a project Euler problem (www.projecteuler.net) for fun but have hit a stumbling block. One of the problem provides a 20x20 grid of numbers and asks for the greatest product of 4 numbers on a straight line. This line can be either horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Using a procedural language I'd have no problem solving this, but part of my motivation for doing these problems in the first place is to gain more experience and learn more Haskell. As of right now I'm reading in the grid and converting it to a list of list of ints, eg -- [[Int]]. This makes the horizontal multiplication trivial, and by transposing this grid the vertical also becomes trivial. The diagonal is what is giving me trouble. I've thought of a few ways where I could use explicit array slicing or indexing, to get a solution, but it seems overly complicated and hackey. I believe there is probably an elegant, functional solution here, and I'd love to hear what others can come up with.

• scala coalesces multiple function call parameters into a Tuple -- can this be disabled?

  This is a troublesome violation of type safety in my project, so I'm looking for a way to disable it. It seems that if a function takes an AnyRef (or a java.lang.Object), you can call the function with any combination of parameters, and Scala will coalesce the parameters into a Tuple object and invoke the function. In my case the function isn't expecting a Tuple, and fails at runtime.   hi there. im working on my second year project and im nearly finished but ive got a problem. i have a table set up in oracle that holds user names, recipients, and messages. i wanted to make a contacts list for sendin messages that would take the user names and put them into a swing jlist but i cant figure out how. i thought maybe if i put the usernames into an array from the sql itd be easier but that didnt work. any ideas?

  i have this code below to show different divs when i choose certain radio buttons: if ($("input[@name='exerciseRB']:checked").val() == 'New') { $("#newExercise").show(); $("#existingExercise").hide(); } else { $("#newExercise").hide(); $("#existingExercise").show(); } at first, i just had two radio buttons (both named exerciseRB and everything works fine. Now, later in my web page i added two new radio buttons (with the name lessonRB). The issue is that once i added these other new radio buttons when i look up this in firebug: $("input[@name='exerciseRB']:checked") i actually get an array back with both the exerciseRB item as well as the lessonRB item. Its almost as if the @name='exerciseRB' is being ignored. any ideas here?
