• Running a Ruby interpreter on iPad

  I'll be taking a trip soon with my iPad, without my laptop. I'd like to continue to tinker with Ruby while I'm on the road. I have an iPhone developer program membership, and I'm not interested in submitting this stuff to the app store. I found the shinycocos project, which appears to embed a Ruby interpreter in an app. But I can't get it to run, and it seems pretty customized for running cocos2d stuff. My first goal is to run an interactive command line like Try Ruby!. After that, I'd like to enter small programs in a UITextView and run them. I'd appreciate any clues, tips, or existing projects you might know of.

• Ruby on Rails: restrict file type with Paperclip using a flash uploader

  I have a pretty basic Paperclip Upload model that is attached to a User model through has_many, and am using Uploadify to do the actual uploading. Flash sends all files with the content type of "application/octet-stream" so using validates_attachment_content_type rejects all files. In my create action, I am able to get the mime-type from the original file name, but only after it's been saved, with: def coerce(params) h = Hash.new h[:upload] = Hash.new h[:upload][:attachment].content_type = MIME::Types.type_for(h[:upload][:attachment].original_filename).to_s ... end and def create diff_params = coerce(params) @upload = Upload.new(diff_params[:upload]) ... end What would be the best way of white listing file types? I am thinking a before_validation method, but I'm not sure how that would work. Any ideas would be welcome.

  Hi, I'm using the Firefox browser and trying to print out my posts (and replies). The pdf output doesn't include the comments in the posts. How to make sure that everything which is on the page gets printed? Same goes for codes for which are in a window. Only the visible part of the code gets printed. These are not programming questions :) but I hope that someone can suggest how to get proper printouts of the posts. Thanks a lot...

• Simple URL rewrite, not redirect, with .htaccess

  I'm pretty inexperienced with .htaccess so please bear with me. I have a domain - "http://www.exampletest.com" which redirects to a folder at a different domain where I have hosting i.e: "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest" Is there an easy mod_rewrite rule where I could have anything at "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest" show up as "http://www.exampletest.com?" An example would be: "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest/user.php" - "http://www.exampletest.com/user.php" Any assistance is greatly appreciated.   So, I have a 'development blog' in a rails app I'm working on right now. I'm using Git for version control and deployment (although right now I'm the only person working on it). Now, when I make changes in Git I put a pretty decent log entry about what I've done. I'd love to have the Git commit log automatically posted to the development blog -- or otherwise available for others to read within the deployed site. Is there an automated way to pull the Git Commit Log into a view in a rails app?

• Delegates doesnot work properly

• How can I impersonate the current user with IronPython?

  I am trying to manage an IIS7 installation remotely using the Microsoft.Web.Administration library. I'm doing this in IronPython: import Microsoft.Web.Administration from Microsoft.Web.Administration import ServerManager manager = ServerManager.OpenRemote("RemoteServerName") for site in manager.Sites: print "Site: %(site)s" % { 'site' : site.Name } On the last line as it attempts to communicate with the remote server I get the following error: Retrieving the COM class factory for remote component with CLSID {2B72133B-3F5B-4602-8952-803546CE3344} from machine devdealernetsvr failed due to the following error: 80070005. My research into the error lead me to believe that I do not have the proper credentials against the remote machine and so I would like to impersonate a user that does. I was hard pressed to find a way to do this with IronPython. Any help is much appreciated.

• Upload/Download files with ASP.Net using Visual Studio Web Server

  I need to upload image files and store them on the webserver, then be able to display them in html. I'm currently using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get a path to read and write files. Firefox won't display the image as I just get an img tag with "src='C:...' Is it possible to read/write files like this with Visual Studio web server? I know it'll be possible with IIS, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to (pretty new to web development) I'm implementing this with ASP.Net MVC 2, but I don't think that is relevant.

• How to handle null {id} on route?

  What if a user hits my site with http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit rather than http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit/1000 In other words, they do not specify a value for {id}. If they do not, I want to display a nice "Not Found" page, since they did not give an ID. I currentl handle this by accepting a nullable int as the parameter in the Controller Action and it works fine. However, I'm curious if there a more standard MVC framework way of handling this, rather than the code I presently use (see below). Is a smoother way to handle this, or is this pretty mush the right way to do it? • How to find thousands of company names?

  How can I find or generate thousands of company names for testing and demo purposes? (Address, phone number, and related information would be nice too.) I've got a system I'm building which includes business contact information. Pretty common no doubt. My test/demo database currently has randomly generated individual's names loaded (thanks to a handy IRS spreadsheet I found). This has worked great for internal testing and review purposes, but it looks really odd when shown to prospective customers. I've tried various online public information sources (e.g. EDGAR, and county based property records searches), but these all require me to manually stitch together the results in blocks of 50 names or so at a time. I could do this, but was really hoping for a search service or data store out there that had this type of information readily searchable and retrievable in very large batches.

• Show surrounding words when searching for a specific word in a text file (Ruby)

  Hi, I'm very new to ruby. I'm trying to search for any instance of a word in a text file (not the problem). Then when the word is discovered, it would show the surrounding text (maybe 3-4 words before and after the target word, instead of the whole line), output to a list of instances and continue searching. Example "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." Search word = "jumped" Output = "...brown fox jumped over the..." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! If a use a function to get my line it will get the line where that function is not the line from where the function was called. I usualy call a function that prints directly to the log file, but in my log I need to know from where the function was called, so i use basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__ this will print something like: index.php::b()::6 It is a lot of code when you have over 500 functions in different files. Is there a shorten or better way to do this? Thank you.

• Making Swedish characters show properly in Windows Command Prompt using Python in Notepad++

I have set up Notepad++ to open the Python script in the command prompt when I press F8 but all Swedish characters looks messed up when opening in CMD but perfectly fine in e.g IDLE. This simple example code: #!/usr/bin/env python #-*- coding: UTF-8 -*- print "åäö" Looks like this. As you can see the output of the batch file I use to open Python in cmd below shows the characters correctly but not the Python script above it. How do I fix this? • iPhone - Custom Tab Icons, Remove Highlight

  I am creating a custom tab bar for my iPhone app and I need to change the images. I have changed the actual tab bar background, but I need to know how to add custom images for the icons and their respective "selected" icons. I also need to remove the square highlight that is default. Pretty much, it just needs to be my icons. Also wondering if the images can be coloured or not. I've looked a lot of this, but no one seems to have the solution. Someone please help.

  So, I have a table like such: id|root|kw1|kw2|kw3|kw4|kw5|name 1| A| B| C| D| E| F|fileA 2| A| B| | | | |fileB 3| B| C| D| E| | |fileC 4| A| B| | | | |fileD (several hundred rows...) And I need to get it into a tree like the following: *A *B -fileB -fileD *C *D *E *F -fileA *B *C *D *E -fileC I'm pretty sure the table is laid out poorly but it's what I have to live with. I've read a little about Adjacency List Model & Modified Preorder Tree Traversal but I don't think my data is laid out correctly. I think this requires a recursive function, but I'm not at all sure how to go about that. I'm open to any ideas of how to get this done even if it means extracting the data into a new table just to process this. Are there any good options available to me or any good ways to do this? (Examples are a bonus of course)

  Hi all. Im trying to make an activity that has a multiple choice dialog after you push a button. In there you select from a list of things. But these things are received from a web method before the dialog appears. So I create a string array after I receive them inside the onCreate to initialise it there with the correct size. But my dialog method then cant get the array because propably its out of its scope. My code looks like this @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) //Here is where the array is loaded to the multiple select dialog etc @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) //Here is where i initialise the array and get its contents etc I cant initialise my array when the class starts because I dont know its size yet. This has to do something with the scopes of my variables and I am pretty confused

• Sql Server XML-type column duplicate entry detection

  In Sql Server I am using an XML type column to store a message. I do not want to store duplicate messages. I only will have a few messages per user. I am currently querying the table for these messages, converting the XML to string in my C# code. I then compare the strings with what I am about to insert. Unfortunately, Sql Server pretty-prints the data in the XML typed fields. What you store into the database is not necessarily exactly the same string as what you get back out later. It is functionally equivalent, but may have white space removed, etc. Is there an efficient way to compare an XML string that I am considering inserting with those that are already in the database? As an aside, if I detect a duplicate I need to delete the older message then insert the replacement.

  I have a Rails app that lets users create tutorials and quizzes. There are many users taking the quizzes and many quizzes in a tutorial. My client wants the quiz results to persist when a student navigates away from the quiz. So the use case would be: User starts to take quiz User answers some of the questions User navigates away from quiz to check a fact in the tutorial User goes back to quiz and their answers are still there User finishes quiz and submits Now this would be pretty easy to do if I enforced a "Save" submit so that the answers could be stored in a session or whatever, but the client (and I agree) thinks people will not remember to save before navigating away. Looking for advice on how to approach this. I'm thinking an observer and cookies.

  For instance, I suppose I have a directory that contains the following folders foo_bar baz What I would like to have is a bash command that will make a symlink foo-bar to foo_bar so it would look like this: foo-bar foo_bar baz I'm pretty sure I can write a Python script to do this, but I'm curious if there's a way to do this with bash. Here's where I'm stuck: ls -1 | grep _ | xargs -I {} ln -s {} `{} | sed 's/_/-/'` What I'm trying to do is run the command ln -s with the first argument being the directory name and the second argument being that name passed through sed s/_/-/. Is there another way to do this?

• StackOverflow WordPress Plugin: Sidebar Widget [closed]

  I used the idea from "StackOverflow badge to show in your blog" from here to develop a small WordPress plugin to show your SO reputation and badges on your WordPress weblog sidebar. It's awfully lacking some graphic design, style, color, etc. I also thought of adding the user avatar, and images for the different badges. But it's working so far, and it's pretty late and I have to get some sleep. But I'll add the stuff I mentioned tomorrow. That was quite an interesting PHP challenge.
