  • Sorting a multidimensional array in objective-c

    - by Zen_silence
    Hello, I'm trying to sort a multidimensional array in objective-c i know that i can sort a single dimensional array using the line of code below: NSArray *sortedArray = [someArray sortedArrayUsingSelector:@selector(caseInsensitiveCompare:)]; I can't seem to figure out how to sort a 2D array like the one below: ( ("SOME_URL", "SOME_STORY_TITLE", "SOME_CATEGORY"), ("SOME_URL", "SOME_STORY_TITLE", "SOME_CATEGORY"), ("SOME_URL", "SOME_STORY_TITLE", "SOME_CATEGORY") ); If someone could provide me code that would sort the array by SOME_CATEGORY it would be of great help to me. Thanks, Zen_Silence

  • ASP.Net GridView Sorting

    - by Ali Shafai
    I have a grid view with AllowSorting set to true. I get an event onsorting when a sortable header is clicked on. the handler has a parameter "GridViewSortEventArgs e" which has a SortDirection property on it. regardless of how many times you click on the same heading, the SortDirection is always Ascending. I think I'm missing something, like a way to tell the grid "now you are sorted based on column one and in ascending order", so that next time the grid sees a click on the "column one" heading, it decides to go descending. any help appreciated. Cheers, Ali

  • Getting Serial Port Information and Sorting the Results in C#

    - by Jim Fell
    I have some code that loads the serial ports into a combo-box: comboBoxComPort.Items.Add("Select COM port..."); foreach (string s in SerialPort.GetPortNames()) { comboBoxComPort.Items.Add(s); } comboBoxComPort.SelectedIndex = 0; Ideally, I would like to add the port descriptions to the list and sort the items in the list that are after index 0. Does anyone have any suggestions for doing this? Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Ignoring 'A' and 'The' when sorting with XSLT

    - by ChrisV
    I would like to have a list sorted ignoring any initial definite/indefinite articles 'the' and 'a'. For instance: The Comedy of Errors Hamlet A Midsummer Night's Dream Twelfth Night The Winter's Tale I think perhaps in XSLT 2.0 this could be achieved along the lines of: <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:for-each select="play"/> <xsl:sort select="if (starts-with(title, 'A ')) then substring(title, 2) else if (starts-with(title, 'The ')) then substring(title, 4) else title"/> <p><xsl:value-of select="title"/></p> </xsl:for-each> </xsl:template> However, I want to use in-browser processing, so have to use XSLT 1.0. Is there any way to achieve this in XLST 1.0?

  • sorting and paging with gridview asp.net

    - by dangerisgo
    I'm trying to get a gridview to sort and page manually with no success. The problem is that when a user clicks the column they want to sort, it sorts that page, but doesn't sort the datasource (dataview) behind the gridview. So when they progress to a different page, their sort is lost. Pretty much I'm looking for a sort that will actually sort the datasource behind the gridview. Here is what I have so far: protected void GridView_OnSort(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { String sortExpression = e.SortExpression; if (GridViewSortDirection == SortDirection.Ascending) { DataView myDataView = new DataView(mybll.GetItemsOrdered()); myDataView.Sort = sortExpression + " DESC"; GridView.DataSource = myDataView; GridView.DataBind(); } else { DataView myDataView = new DataView(mybll.GetItemsOrdered()); myDataView.Sort = sortExpression + " ASC"; GridView.DataSource = myDataView; GridView.DataBind(); } } Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • What Sorting Algorithm Is Used By LINQ "OrderBy"?

    - by Mystagogue
    Evidently LINQ's "OrderBy" had originally been specified as unstable, but by the time of Orca it was specified as stable. Not all documentation has been updated accordingly - consider these links: Jon Skeet on OrderBy stability Troy Magennis on OrderBy stability But if LINQ's OrderBy is now "stable," then it means it is not using a quicksort (which is inherently unstable) even though some documentation (e.g. Troy's book) says it is. So my question is: if not quicksort, then what is the actual algorithm LINQ's orderBy is using?

  • Drupal: Sorting a view programmatically

    - by Ace
    Hey there. I'm trying to take the results of a view - using the function views_get_view_result() - and sort the array in a way I couldn't do from within the Views interface. So far so good. I've got a $rows variable with all of the stuff I need. Now... How do I put it back? :) Before I needed this sort, I used views_embed_view(), but I can't do that anymore. Grateful for any help on this, feels like I'm so close to cracking it!

  • Sorting HTML table (with anchor tags and data in cells) in Python

    - by AJ
    I have a necessity to sort a given HTML table of the following structure, in Python. <table> <tr> <td><a href="#">ABCD</a></td> <td>A23BND</td> <td><a title="ABCD">345345</td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="#">EFG</a></td> <td>Add4D</td> <td><a title="EFG">3432</td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="#">HG</a></td> <td>GJJ778</td> <td><a title="HG">2341333</td> </tr> </table> I am doing something like this: container = tree.findall("tr") strOut = "" data = [] for elem in container: key = elem.findtext(colName) data.append((key, elem)) data.sort() The problem is that it sorts by the text inside the . I want to be able to sort by the anchor value and not href. What can I do to achieve that? Thanks a lot.

  • question about sorting

    - by skydoor
    Bubble sort is O(n) at best, O(n^2) at worst, and its memory usage is O(1) . Merge sort is always O(n log n), but its memory usage is O(n). Which algorithm we would use to implement a function that takes an array of integers and returns the max integer in the collection, assuming that the length of the array is less than 1000. What if the array length is greater than 1000?

  • Sorting ArrayList - IndexOutOfBoundsException -Java

    - by FILIaS
    I'm trying to sort an ArrayList with strings(PlayersNames) and imageIcons(PlayersIcons) based on the values i store in an other arrayList with integers(results). As you can see i get an indexOutOfBoundsException but i cant understand why. Maybe the earling of the morning makes me not to see plain things. ArrayList<String> PlayersNames=new ArrayList<String>; ArrayList<ImageIcon> PlayersIcons=new ArrayList<ImageIcons>; public void sortPlayers(ArrayList<Integer> results){ String tmp; ImageIcon tmp2; for (int i=0; i<PlayersNames.size(); i++) { for (int j=PlayersNames.size(); j>i; j--) { if (results.get(i) < results.get(i+1) ) { //IndexOutOfBoundsException! tmp=PlayersNames.get(i+1); PlayersNames.set(i+1,PlayersNames.get(i)); PlayersNames.set(i,tmp); tmp2=PlayersIcons.get(i+1); PlayersIcons.set(i+1,PlayersIcons.get(i)); PlayersIcons.set(i,tmp2); } } } }

  • Sorting NSSets of a core data entity - Objective-c

    - by ncohen
    Hi everyone, I would like to sort the data of a core data NSSet (I know we can do it only with arrays but let me explain...). I have an entity user who has a relationship to-many with the entity recipe. A recipe has the attributes name and id. I would like to get the data such that: Code: NSArray *id = [[user.recipes valueForKey:@"identity"] allObjects]; NSArray *name = [[user.recipes valueForKey:@"name"] allObjects]; if I take the object at index 1 in both arrays, they correspond to the same recipe... Thanks

  • WPF 4, ListView and ListCollectionView custom sorting

    - by JustABill
    I'm trying to use a custom sort with a ListView, as described in this blog entry. I'm doing ListCollectionView view = (ListCollectionView)CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(TheList.ItemsSource); as recommended there and in several other places, but for some reason I'm getting "Unable to cast object of type 'MS.Internal.Data.EnumerableCollectionView' to type 'System.Windows.Data.ListCollectionView'." (TheList is of type ListView). What could be causing this?

  • Sorting an array of Doubles with NaN in it

    - by Agent Worm
    This is more of a 'Can you explain this' type of question than it is anything else. I came across a problem at work where we were using NaN values in a table, but when the table was sorted, it came out in a very strange, strange manner. I figured NaN was mucking up something so I wrote up a test application to see if this is true. This is what I did. static void Main(string[] args) { double[] someArray = { 4.0, 2.0, double.NaN, 1.0, 5.0, 3.0, double.NaN, 10.0, 9.0, 8.0 }; foreach (double db in someArray) { Console.WriteLine(db); } Array.Sort(someArray); Console.WriteLine("\n\n"); foreach (double db in someArray) { Console.WriteLine(db); } Console.ReadLine(); } Which gave the result: Before: 4,2,NaN,1,5,3,NaN,10,9,8 After: 1,4,NaN,2,3,5,8,9,10,NaN So yes, the NaN some how made the sorted array to be sorted in a strange way. To quote Fry; "Why is those things?"

  • Specific complex array sorting

    - by TheDeadMedic
    Okay, a before; Array ( 'home' => array('order' => 1), 'about' => array(), 'folio' => array('order' => 2), 'folio/web' => array('order' => 2), 'folio/print' => array('order' => 1) 'contact' => array('order' => 2) ) And a desired after; Array ( 'home' => array('order' => 1), 'contact' => array('order' => 2), 'folio' => array('order' => 2), 'folio/print' => array('order' => 1), 'folio/web' => array('order' => 2), 'about' => array() ) I know, horrific (don't ask!) See how the slash in the key indicates children, and how the order is nested accordingly? And items without orders are simply shifted to the bottom. But also how multiple 'same level' items with the same order are merely sorted by key?

  • Sorting objects in Python

    - by Curious2learn
    I want to sort objects using by one of their attributes. As of now, I am doing it in the following way USpeople.sort(key=lambda person: person.utility[chosenCar],reverse=True) This works fine, but I have read that using operator.attrgetter() might be a faster way to achieve this sort. First, is this correct? Assuming that it is correct, how do I use operator.attrgetter() to achieve this sort? I tried, keyFunc=operator.attrgetter('utility[chosenCar]') USpeople.sort(key=keyFunc,reverse=True) However, I get an error saying that there is no attribute 'utility[chosenCar]'. The problem is that the attribute by which I want to sort is in a dictionary. For example, the utility attribute is in the following form: utility={chosenCar:25000,anotherCar:24000,yetAnotherCar:24500} I want to sort by the utility of the chosenCar using operator.attrgetter(). How could I do this? Thanks in advance.

  • Sorting nested hash in ruby

    - by Rabbott
    Provided the following ruby hash: { cat: { 1: 2, 2: 10, 3: 11, 4: 1 }, wings: { 1: 3, 2: 5, 3: 7, 4: 7 }, grimace: { 1: 4, 2: 5, 3: 5, 4: 1 }, stubborn: { 1: 5, 2: 3, 3: 7, 4: 5 } } How can I sort the hash by the sum of 'leaf' excluding "4", for instance the value to compare for "cat" would be (2 + 10 + 11) = 23, the value for "wings" would be (3 + 5 + 7) = 15 so if I was comparing just those two they would be in the correct order, highest sum on top. It is safe to assume that it will ALWAYS be {1: value, 2: value, 3: value, 4: value} as those are keys for constants I have defined. It is also safe to assume that I will only ever want to exclude the key "4", and always use the keys "1", "2", and "3"

Please tell me how to do this.. Thank you

  • Fast partial sorting algorithm

    - by trican
    I'm looking for a fast way to do a partial sort of 81 numbers - Ideally I'm looking to extract the lowest 16 values (its not necessary for the 16 to be in the absolutely correct order). The target for this is dedicated hardware in an FPGA - so this slightly complicated matters as I want the area of the resultant implementation as small as possible. I looked at and implemented the odd-even merge sort algorithm, but I'm ideally looking for anything that might be more efficient for my needs (trade algorithm implementation size for a partial sort giving lowest 16, not necessarily in order as opposed to a full sort) Any suggestions would be very welcome Many thanks

  • sorting using recursion

    - by user310587
    I have the following function to sort an array with even numbers in the front and odd numbers in the back. Is there a way to get it done without using any loops? //front is 0, back =array.length-1; arrangeArray (front, back); public static void arrangeArray (int front, int back) { if (front != back || front<back) { while (numbers [front]%2 == 0) front++; while (numbers[back]%2!=0) back--; if (front < back) { int oddnum = numbers [front]; numbers[front]= numbers[back]; numbers[back]=oddnum; arrangeArray (front+1, back-1); } } }
