• ASP.NET plugin architecture for SaaS?

  Hey Everyone, Been doing a bit of research and have a few questions about using a Plugin architecture for asp.net. I have used it before for a single application and works well but was wondering if it technically possible to use this architecture for a SaaS? Once code base but custom plugins for each customer using some form of custom folders to organize the plugins? Idea would be to use one main code base instead of having to maintain code for N number of clients. Ideas? Thoughts? Experience either way?

• I can't make this query work with SUM function

  This query gives an error: select ep, case when ob is null and b2b_ob is null then 'a' when ob is not null or b2b_ob is not null then 'b' else null end as type, sum(b2b_d + b2b_t - b2b_i) as sales from table where ... group by ep, type Error: ORA-00904: "TYPE": invalid identifier When I run it with group by ep, the error message becomes: ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression The whole query works OK if I remove the lines sum(b2b_d+b2b_t-b2b_i) as sales and group by ..., so the problem should be related to SUM and GROUP BY functions. How can I make this work? Thanks in advance for your help.

  I have a windows 7,32 bit laptop.   In this thread many people have indicated that they use log4net. I am a fan of TraceSources and would like to know why log4net is used. Here is why I like trace sources: Pluggable listeners - XML, TextFile, Console, EventLog, roll your own Customisable trace switches (error, warning, info, verbose, start, end, custom) Customisable configuration The Logging Application Block is just a big set of TraceListeners Correlation of activities/scopes (e.g., associate all logs within an ASP.NET request with a given customer The Service Trace Viewer allows you to visualize events against these activities individually All of it is configurable in app.config/web.config. Since the .NET framework internally uses TraceSources, it also gives me a consistent way of configuring tracing - with log4net, I have to configure log4net as well as TraceSources. What does log4net give me that TraceSources don't (or that couldn't be done by writing a couple of custom TraceListeners)?

  I'm getting strange error message from the following code: ArrayType * arrayType = ArrayType::get(Type::getInt32Ty(ctx), 0); stack = builder->CreateAlloca(arrayType, ConstantArray::get(arrayType, std::vector<Constant *>())); This code compiles fine but it gives me llvm::Value* getAISize(llvm::LLVMContext&, llvm::Value*): Assertion `Amt-getType() == Type::getInt32Ty(Context) && "Malloc/Allocation array size is not a 32-bit integer!"' failed. during execution. What's interesting, is that I never said of what type array size should be, it was created somewhere inside helper functions. So I naturally see no good reason for assert to be there. But I must be doing something wrong anyway, can you help me spot the problem? Thanks in advance. PS. LLVM, as good as it is, lacking documentation tremendously.

• CALayer drawInContext vs addSublayer

  How can I use both of these in the same UIView correctly? I have one custom subclassed CALayer in which I draw a pattern within drawInContext I have a another in which I set an overlay PNG image as the contents. I have a third which is just a background. How do I overlay all 3 of these items? [self.layer addSublayer:bottomLayer]; // this line is the problem [squaresLayer drawInContext:viewContext]; [self.layer addSublayer:imgLayer]; The other 2 by themselves draw correctly if I do them in that order. No matter where I try and put bottomLayer, it always prevents squaresLayer from drawing. The reason I need 3 layers is I intend to animate the colors in the background and custom layers. The top layer is just a graphical overlay.

  I have a console application that is trying to load a CustomConfigurationSection from a web.config file. The custom configuration section has a custom configuration element that is required. This means that when I load the config section, I expect to see an exception if that config element is not present in the config. The problem is that the .NET framework seems to be completely ignoring the isRequired attribute. So when I load the config section, I just creates an instance of the custom configuration element and sets it on the config section. My question is, why is this happening? I want the GetSection() method to fire a ConfigurationErrors exception since a required element is missing from the configuration.   From MSDN (link): The type PrintDocumentImageableArea has no public constructor. Hence, the variable documentImageableArea must be declared and assigned to Nothing and only then passed to the method. This method displays a PrintDialog requiring input from the user. After the user has selected a printer, paper size, and orientation and closed the dialog, documentImageableArea points to an actual object and its properties are initialized. I have my custom print dialog and need to get the PrintDocumentImageableArea of a given PrintQueue and PrintTicket! (I need the margin's I need to apply) From what I can gather it is quite common for anything but the most basic applications to use their own custom print dialog. There must be a way to get to this information!? Any input appreciated!

Am I missing something or is this just not possible with this control? Thanks

  This might be implementation specific so the question regards how SQL databases is generally implemented. Say I have a database looking like this; Product with columns [ProductName] [Price] [Misc] [Etc] Order with columns [OrderID] [ProductName] [Quantity] [Misc] [Etc] ProductName is primary key of Product, of some string type and unique. OrderID is primary key and of some integer type, and ProductName being a foreign key. Say I change the primary key of Product to a new column of integer type ie [ProductID] Would this reduce the database size and optimize lookups joining these two tables (and likewise operations), or are these optimizations performed automatically by (most/general/main) SQL database implementations?

• How to troubleshoot deallocation of object in uitableview?

  I have a table view with tall cells. About 300 in height. The cells are custom and have an associated nib. In cellForRowAtIndexPath, I access an object in an array using indexPath.row. The object has properties, which I assign to labels on the custom cell. This works fine for the first two cells. Once I scroll enough for the third cell to get created, the app crashes. • Implementing IPermission

  Hi there, I'm considering writing a custom IPermission implementation but am not clear as to how it should work. I've already implemented IPrincipal and IIdentity. What I would like to accomplish is to be able to check permissions vis a vis the current IPrincipal's authorizations rather than its roles. Generally, authorizations are read/add-delete/update/none for a given type. So I would like to write something like this: [CustomPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Type = typeof(Foo), MinimumAuthorization = AuthorizationFlags.Read)] public void SomeMethod(){} Is this possible? I've looked over the code at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.ipermission.aspx. This shows how to implement the interface, but I don't understand how the above pseudo-code would be able to check against the IPrincipal's authorizations for the type. Any help or resource references would be appreciated. Joni

• WPF dependency property setter not firing when PropertyChanged is fired, but source value is not cha

  I have an int dependency property on my custom Textbox, which holds a backing value. It is bound to an int? property on the DataContext. If I raise the PropertyChanged event in my DataContext, and the source property's value is not changed (stays null), then the dependency property's setter is not fired. This is a problem, because I want to update the custom Textbox (clear the text) on PropertyChanged, even if the source property stays the same. However, I didn't find any binding option that does what I want (there is an UpdateSourceTrigger property, but I want to update the target here, not the source). Maybe there is a better way to inform the Textbox that it needs to clear its text, I'm open to any suggestions.

  Hi guys, I've just recently started out using Flash Builder and have a question surrounding states. In fact I'm not entirely sure it is related to states but read on and I hope it will become clearer. I currently have a custom component that contains 3 comboboxes. This resides in a TabNavigator component. The TabNavigator consits of 5 pages (Tabs). The custom container holding the comboboxes should display the same selected data across all Tabs. ie. If I am in Tab1 and select an item from one of the comboboxes then click on Tab2 I need to mirror the combobox's selection in Tab2. Can anyone offer me suggestions on how to best tackle this? Di I need to set a global variable?

• How to disable Center Key (CK) and let only Left Soft Key (LSK) be used in j2me

  Hello everyone, I created a custom item in which I need to use the Center Key for the purpose of selecting and I am successfully able to use it with the keyPressed event using the keyCode as -5. The problem is, as soon as I press the CK, it also clicks on the command above the LSK and that causes the menu to pop up. Is there any way that I can disable the CK for a particular command or something like that (because I dont need CK, since I can click on the command through LSK as well, I want to use the CK specifically for the custom item)? Pretty much all the devices I have support gigabit ethernet should I go out an buy some decent network cables (and if so what type) or should I continue using my mix of cat5 cables I've acquired over the years. Does the type of cable really make a difference to my LAN performance??

  I've got a C# function that converts a byte array to a class, given it's type: IntPtr buffer = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(rawsize); Marshal.Copy(data, 0, buffer, rawsize); object result = Marshal.PtrToStructure(buffer, type); Marshal.FreeHGlobal(buffer); I use sequential structs: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public new class PacketFormat : Packet.PacketFormat { } This worked fine, until I tried to convert to a struct/class containing a byte array. [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public new class PacketFormat : Packet.PacketFormat { public byte header; public byte[] data = new byte[256]; } Marshal.SizeOf(type) returns 16, which is too low (should be 257) and causes Marshal.PtrToStructure to fail with the following error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I'm guessing that using a fixed array would be a solution, but can it also be done without having to resort to unsafe code?

  I have a Javascript object that I want to pass in more parameters, but the documentation is non-existant. My only option seems to be to reverse engineer the Javascript object to see what parameters and values I can pass in.
