• How can I create a weekly calendar view for an Android Honeycomb application?

  I am working on an Android (v3.0) application that has a requirement of mimicking the weekly calendar layout found on Google Calendar: The events will be based on external requests through the Google Calendar API (I already have this part working). Using the API, I can obtain a list of events for the week, with each event having a starting and and ending datetime. I would like to use this data to show the scheduled events to the application's users in a view similar to the one above. Thus, whenever I would like to add an event that has a duration of 1.5 hours, I will make an 60dp button that I will place at the exact location that the time begins (12am = 0dp from the top, 1pm = 40dp from the top, 2pm = 80d from the top, etc). My questions are: Is there a better way of doing this? How can I convert my XML to be stand-alone view that could be added to any Android project? (I plan on perhaps making a blog post about the end product) Thank you!

• Android: TabHost How To: set new content in existing tabs upon menu button?

  Hello stackoverflow, I recently started Android programming and was working on my first program which displays a historic text document, sectioned by tabs via TabHost. I have limited my program to one activity and merely used setContent in my TabSpec's to switch between different XML views. The document has both unedited and corrected versions of the text for which I have built text views to accommodate. I wanted to implement the standard menu to have buttons to "view corrected" and "view original" and switch the content of the tabs which have changes (without altering the tabs or their indicators). I've read on the TabHost API and there is no way to edit existing tab content with setContent() of TabSpec; and AFAIK TabWidget only affects the actual tabs, not the content that is displayed upon pressing them. I've thought about creating a new class which extended TabHost and super() all of the original methods, while including one more which updated the mTabSpec list. My question would be, how would I update the frameLayout view of a specific tab to display content I specify?

• Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 - OCM: ORA-12012 and ORA-29280

  OCM is the Oracle Configuration Manager, a tool to proactively monitor your Oracle environment to provide this information to Oracle Software Support. As OCM is installed by default in many databases but is some sort of independent from the database's version you won't expect any issues during or after a database upgrade But after the upgrade from Oracle 11.1.0.7 to Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Exadata X2-2 one of my customers found the following error in the alert.log every 24 hours: Errors in file /opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/db/trace/db_j001_26027.trc: ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job "ORACLE_OCM"."MGMT_CONFIG_JOB_2_1" ORA-29280: invalid directory path ORA-06512: at "ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_DB_LL_METRICS", line 2436 ORA-06512: at line 1 Why is that happening and how to solve that issue now? OCM is trying to write to a local directory which does not exist. Besides that the OCM version delivered with Oracle Database Patch Set 11.2.0.3 is older than the newest available OCM Collector 10.3.7 - the one which has that issue fixed. So you'll either drop OCM completely if you won't use it: SQL> drop user ORACLE_OCM cascade; or you'll disable the collector jobs: SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_CONFIG_JOB');SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_STATS_CONFIG_JOB'); or you'll have to reconfigure OCM - and please see MOS Note:1453959.1 for a detailed description how to do that - it's basically executing the script ORACLE_HOME/ccr/admin/scripts/installCCRSQL - but there maybe other things to consider especially in a RAC environment. - Mike

  Hi, I've trying to use the API for CapsuleCRM... http://capsulecrm.com/help/page/api_gettingstarted I've been reading some articles on SOAP in asp.net and I just don't get it. Most of them seem to be ablut creating a web service, not using it and none of them seem to explain how to use basic HTTP authentication. I have got as far as constructing the XML i want to send to the API but I could really do with seeing some example code which makes an http call using http authentication to a SOAP API. Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing but I've drawn a blank so far. Can anybody show me how? Jon

• Hudson or Jenkins

  We have been using Hudson for quite a while and we loved it. Now many Hudson-developers have "left the building" to create their own: Jenkins (which means the project has been forked). As Hudson/Jenkins users, we are now worried whether we should opt for the original "big and stable" producer Oracle, or the "small and dynamic" newcomer Jenkins. EDIT: Our worries are mainly due to the fact that we did not really hear about this fork/split through any official ways. It looks like a guerilla action including the hijacking of logos and trademarks (after all, the copyright must be at Oracle, no? I'm not sure). So we're kinda missing professionalism here, as in well-organised course of action involving press relases, etc. Maybe we just missed that... What are good objective reasons to decide for either project in the future? Can we postpone that decision until later, or is that too risky? Is the manager just misreporting or have I not setup the thread pool correctly?

• XStream <-> Alternative binary formats (e.g. protocol buffers)

  We currently use XStream for encoding our web service inputs/outputs in XML. However we are considering switching to a binary format with code generator for multiple languages (protobuf, Thrift, Hessian, etc) to make supporting new clients easier and less reliant on hand-coding (also to better support our message formats which include binary data). However most of our objects on the server are POJOs with XStream handling the serialization via reflection and annotations, and most of these libraries assume they will be generating the POJOs themselves. I can think of a few ways to interface an alternative library: Write an XStream marshaler for the target format. Write custom code to marshal the POJOs to/from the classes generated by the alternative library. Subclass the generated classes to implement the POJO logic. May require some rewriting. (Also did I mention we want to use Terracotta?) Use another library that supports both reflection (like XStream) and code generation. • Using generics with XmlSerializer

  Hi, When using XML serialization in C#, I use code like this: public MyObject LoadData() { XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyObject)); using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(settingsFileName)) { return (MyObject)xmlSerializer.Deserialize(reader); } } (and similar code for deserialization). It requires casting and is not really nice. Is there a way, directly in .NET Framework, to use generics with serialization? That is to say to write something like: public MyObject LoadData() { // Generics here. XmlSerializer<MyObject> xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(); using (TextReader reader = new StreamReader(settingsFileName)) { // No casts nevermore. return xmlSerializer.Deserialize(reader); } }

  ADF Mobile Client is now generally available!  The press release went out this morning, and the ADF Mobile Client extensions can now be downloaded in the JDeveloper Update Center.  There is also a new Oracle Mobile Computing Strategy White Paper and Data Sheet available, for a high level overview of ADF Mobile. To get started with ADF Mobile Client development, please leverage the following resources: Oracle Technology Network ADF Mobile Landing Page: Review this page for all available resources for ADF Mobile development. Getting Start with ADF Mobile Client Demo: Short demo of the end-to-end development process. • DataSet.GetXml not returning null results

  Hi, whenever I convert a DatSet into an XML with DataSet.GetXml, any null value is ignored, so, where i expect this: <value1>a</value1> <value2></value2> <value3>c</value3> I get this instead: <value1>a</value1> <value3>c</value3> Any quick and dirty way to handle this? Thanks EDIT: I think a solution would be using WriteXml. Could anyone provide me with a sample of using it WITHOUT writing to a file but getting a string just like GetXml does? Thanks
