• .NET Exception error, what does this error means?

  I've tried to develop a simple winform utility which is using xml file as its database. I've used VS 2008 express edition, C#. When this utility tries to write into the xml file then this error is displayed on other computer. I've tried to provide System.Xml.dll & System.Xml.Linq.dll in the same folder on the other computer but no use. What does it means? Any solution?   I have this code, i am trying to toggle some kml layers. The problem is that when i click the marker it isn't showing the infowindow. Maybe someone can show me my error. Thanks. • Problems with show hide jquery

  I am trying to get show hide to work on multiple objects but I am unable to get it to work. Any help would be nice an much appreciated... I am lost on how to do this.   Hi, I have developed an application using .net 3.5 and have deployed it as an .exe on a number of machines with the same environment. However, on one particular machine I get the following error. • Passing a variable from Excel 2007 Custom Task Pane to Hosted PowerShell

  I am testing PowerShell hosting using C#. The idea was this: when I click the button a hosted PowerShell instance is created and I can pass to it the current Excel.Application instance as a variable, just like in the first sample, so I can use this variable to automate Excel from PowerShell (one text box would be used for input and the other one for output. • Why does this valid Tkinter code crash when mixed with a bit of PyWin32?

  So I'm making a very small program for personal use in tkinter, and I've run into a really strange wall. I'm mixing tkinter with the pywin32 bindings because I really hate everything to do with the syntax and naming conventions of pywin32, and it feels like tkinter gets more done with far less code. The strangeness is happening in the transition between the pywin32 clipboard watching and my program's reaction to it in tkinter. My window and all its controls are being handled in tkinter. The pywin32 bindings are doing clipboard watching and clipboard access when the clipboard changes. From what I've gathered about the way the clipboard watching pieces of pywin32 work, you can make it work with anything you want as long as you provide pywin32 with the hwnd value of your window. I'm doing that part, and it works when the program first starts. It just doesn't seem to work when the clipboard changes. When the program launches, it grabs the clipboard and puts it into the search box and edit box just fine. When the clipboard is modified, the event I want to fire off is firing off...except that event that totally worked before when the program launched is now causing a weird hang instead of doing what it's supposed to do. I can print the clipboard contents to stdout all I want if the clipboard changes, but not put that same data into a tkinter widget. It only hangs like that if it starts to interact with any of my tkinter widgets after being fired off by a clipboard change notification. It feels like there's some pywin32 etiquette I've missed in adapting the clipboard-watching sample code I was using over to my tkinter-using program. Tkinter apparently doesn't like to produce stack traces or error messages, and I can't really even begin to know what to look for trying to debug it with pdb. • Actionscript 3: Monitoring the activity level for multiple Microphones doesn't seem to work.

  For a project I want to show all available webcams and microphones, so that the user can easily select whichever webcam/microphone combination they prefer. I run into an issue with the microphones listing though. Each microphone is listed with an activity animation and it's name. I am able to list all Microphones just fine (using the Microphone.names Array), but it seems like I can only get the activity viewer to work for one microphone. The other microphones show up with '-1' activity, which (as far as I know) is Flex for 'present, but not in use'. When unplugging the microphone that does show activity, the next one (in my case, the mic-in line on my motherboard) shows up with '0' activity (it's not connected, so that makes sense). During my testing I have a total of 3 microphones available, the not-connected onboard mic-in port, and two connected microphones. For testing purposes I use a timer that traces the current microphone activity each 100ms and the graph is also shown. It does not seem to matter what default microphone I set via flash' settings panel. The code I've only attached the revelant code snippets below to make it easier for you to read through them. Please let me know if you prefer the entire code. • background image disappears when position relative used in firefox

  So I'm trying to add a badge to the top right corner of a site I'm doing some work on. z-index works to float the object above the page content but each time i try to use position relative the background image disappears only position absolute shows the image. I don't really want to use absolute as the image needs to be positioned on the right hand side of the sites menu bar not the right hand side of the viewport. • IE 6 and 7 background inheritance problem, how do I solve this?

  When I'm trying to create a rounded shaded box it works fine on FF and IE8 but on IE6 and IE7, any div inside the box gets the last background but if you set that all divs on the level where there should not be a background have background:none it doesn't show any background on the level that comes before *The code is pointing to live images on Image Shack so you can save and run that it will work normally on Firefox but you can see what happen on IE6/7. • Adding a div layer on top of a jquery carousel. Tough one.

  Hey everyone, I have a tough one, well it's tough for me because I'm kinda new to the whole jQuery carousel thing, never built one before this project. Here's my problem. If you go to the TEST SITE you will see a scroller with a blue background about half way down the page. If you mouse onto the "data analytics" slide you should see a black box fade in. • Nested loops break out unexpectedly

  Hi guys, I'm trying to create a sudoku game, for those that do not know what it is. You have a 9x9 box that needs to be filled with numbers from 1-9, every number must be unique in its row and column, and also in the 3x3 box it is found. I ended up doing loads of looping within a 2 dimensional array. But at some point it just stops, with no exceptions whatsoever, just breaks out and nothing happens, and it's not always at the same position, but always goes past half way. I was expecting a stack overflow exception at least. • How to cope with developing against a poor 3rd party API/application?

  I'm a web developer, and my organization has recently started to use a proprietary ASP.NET CMS for our web sites. I was excited to get started using the CMS, thinking it would bring a lot of value to our end users and be fun to work with, since my skills are a good match for the types of projects we're using it for. That was about a year ago. Since then, we've ran into all kinds of issues, from blatant bugs in the product, to nasty edge cases in the APIs, to extremely poor documentation for developers. On about a weekly basis, we are forced to pursue workarounds and rewrite some of the out of the box functionality, and even find some of the basic features unusable. In many cases, since this is a closed source application (and obfuscated of course), there's nothing we can do as developers to solve these issues. So my question is, how does one attempt to develop a good application in such a scenario? The application mostly works when using the the exact out of the box behavior, or using one of the company's starter sites. However, my attempts to use the underlying APIs to implement slightly different, yet reasonable behavior has proved to be extremely time consuming (not to mention just as buggy), given the lack of good information about the APIs. I've given this a lot of thought, and my conflicting viewpoints are the following: Strongly advise against any customization to the CMS, as development time will rise exponentially, or even have an extremely high chance of failing. While this is accurate, I do not want to give the impression that I am not willing to code my own solutions to problems and take the initiative to implement something difficult or complex. I don't want to be perceived as someone who is not motivated, lazy, or not knowledgeable to do anything complex, because this is simply not the case. I love coding my own solutions, trying new/difficult things, I just dislike the vendor app we're using. Continue on the path I'm on now, which is hacking my way past all issues I encounter and try my best to deliver an application that meets the needs and specs exactly. My goals are to make it as seamless and easy to use as possible to the end user, even when integrating the CMS with our other applications internally. The problem I'm finding with this approach is it is very time consuming. I open support cases with the vendor on a regular basis to solve issues and to gain knowledge of their APIs, but this is extremely time consuming, and in some cases it leads to dead ends. I post on the vendors forums on a regular basis but have become frustrated as most of my posts get 0 replies. So, what would you, a reasonable developer, do in this case? How can I make the best of the situation? And just for fun, here are some of the code smells and anti-patterns I've dealt with using the product (aside from their own code blatantly failing): Use of StringBuilder to concatenate a giant string that is hard coded and does not change. They use it to concatenate their Javascript and write it out into the body tags of their pages. Methods that accept object or Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection as the parameters. In the case of the VB Collection, the data is not a list of any kind, it's used instead of making a class. Methods that return a Hashtable of VB Collections Method names of the form MethodName_v45, MethodName_v20, etc... Multiple classes with the same name in different namespaces with different functionality/behavior. Intellisense that reads "Note: this parameter is non functional" Complete lack of coding standards, API is filled with magic numbers and magic strings. Properties with a getter of type object that accepts totally different things, like enum or strings, and throw exceptions at runtime when you pass in something not supported. And much, much, more...

  I want to imitate Google suggest with the following code, which means: step 1: When user types in search box, the query string will be processed by a server php file and query suggestion string is returned(using Ajax object). step 2:When user clicks on a query suggestion, it will fill into the search box (autocomplete). • move carat to the end of a text input field AND make the end visible

  I'm going insane. I have an autosuggest box where users choose a suggestion. On the next suggestion selection the value of the text input box exceeds its size. I can move the carat to the end of the input field crossbrowser, no problem. But on Chrome and Safari I cannot SEE the carat at the end. The end of the text is not visible. • z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

  I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot. • Rogue PropertyChanged notifications from ViewModel

  The following simple program is causing me a Databinding headache. I'm new to this which is why I suspect it has a simple answer. Basically, I have two text boxes bound to the same property myString. I have not set up the ViewModel (simply a class with one property, myString) to provide any notifications to the View for when myString is changed, so even although both text boxes operate a two way binding there should be no way that the text boxes update when myString is changed, am I right? Except... In most circumstances this is true - I use the 'change value' button at the bottom of the window to change the value of myString to whatever the user types into the adjacent text box, and the two text boxes at the top, even although they are bound to myString, do not change. Fine. However, if I edit the text in TextBox1, thus changing the value of myString (although only when the text box loses focus due to the default UpdateSourceTrigger property, see reference), TextBox2 should NOT update as it shouldn't receive any updates that myString has changed. However, as soon as TextBox1 loses focus (say click inside TextBox2) TextBox2 is updated with the new value of myString. My best guess so far is that because the TextBoxes are bound to the same property, something to do with TextBox1 updating myString gives TextBox2 a notification that it has changed. Very confusing as I haven't used INotifyPropertyChanged or anything like that. To clarify, I am not asking how to fix this. I know I could just change the binding mode to a oneway option. I am wondering if anyone can come up with an explanation for this strange behaviour? When i have my mouse over it-it expands out to a static width but, depending on the text length, it grabs it by the inner's text $('.inner').height().   I'm trying to create a Login page, not worrying about actually logging in yet, but I'm trying to achieve the effect where there is some faded text inside the input field and when you click on it, the text disappears or if you click away the text reappears. I have this working for my "Username" input field, but the "Password" field is giving me problems because I can't just do $("#password").attr("type","password").
