• Android: Trusting all Certificates using HttpClient over HTTPS

  Hi all, Recently posted a question regarding the HttpClient over Https (found here). I've made some headway, but I've run into new issues. As with my last problem, I can't seem to find an example anywhere that works for me. Basically, I want my client to accept any certificate (because I'm only ever pointing to one server) but I keep getting a javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate exception. • Android: Adding static header to the top of a ListActivity

  Currently I have a class that is extending the ListActivity class. I need to be able to add a few static buttons above the list that are always visible. I've attempted to grab the ListView using getListView() from within the class. Then I used addHeaderView(View) to add a small layout to the top of the screen. Header.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <Button android:id="@+id/testButton" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Income" android:textSize="15dip" android:layout_weight="1" /> </LinearLayout> Before I set the adapter I do: ListView lv = getListView(); lv.addHeaderView(findViewById(R.layout.header)); This results in nothing happening to the ListView except for it being populated from my database. No buttons appear above it. Another approach I tried as adding padding to the top of the ListView. When I did this it successfully moved down, however, if I added any above it, it pushed the ListView over. No matter what I do it seems as though I cannot put a few buttons above the ListView when I used the ListActivity. Thanks in advance. synic, I tried your suggestion previously. I tried it again just for the sake of sanity, and the button did not display. • Configuring VirtualBox host only networking: OSX host, Ubuntu guest

  I have a Ubuntu guest configured with two interfaces, eth0 is using NAT and works fine, I can access the net. The second interface eth1 is set to host only networking and VirtualBox has created a vboxnet0 virtual adapter on the host. I've configured vboxnet0 in VirtualBox adapter settings with the following: ip 192.168.21.20 subnet 255.255.255.0 Once the VM guest is running, ifconfig on OSX has vboxnet0 setup as: vboxnet0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether 0a:00:27:00:00:00 inet 192.168.21.20 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.21.255 In the guest, eth0 is set to use DHCP, I've statically assigned eth1 to 192.168.21.20 (is this a mistake?): auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.21.20 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.21.0 broadcast 192.168.21.255 gateway 192.168.21.1 There is no device on 192.168.21.1 - what should I set my gateway to? • Cisco ASA and SixXS IPv6 tunnel endpoint?

  I recently installed a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall on the edge of our LAN. The setup is simple: Internet <-- ASA <-- LAN I would like provide the hosts in the LAN with IPv6 connectivity by setting up a 6in4 tunnel to SixXS. It would be nice to have the ASA as tunnel endpoint so it can firewall both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. Unfortunately the ASA apparently can't create a tunnel itself, and can't port-forward protocol 41 traffic, so I believe I would have to do one of the following instead: Set up a host with it's own IP outside the firewall, and have that function as tunnel-endpoint. The ASA can then firewall and route the v6 subnet to the LAN. Set up a host inside the firewall that functions as endpoint, separated via vlan or whatever, and loop the traffic back into the ASA where it can be firewalled and routed. This seems contrived, but would allow me to use a VM instead of a physical machine as endpoint. Any other way? What would you suggest is the optimal way to set this up? P.S. I do have a spare public IP address available if needed, and can spin up another VM in our VMware infrastructure.

I thought it might be a setting i'd set in the porject properties so i created an entirely new plugin project and set it to display a message box on startup. • Setting up Tomcat6 properly in Ubuntu 10.04

  We have a Tomcat6 instance running on Ubuntu 10.04LTS. Our test box was just a Windows machine running Tomcat6. Both machines (Linux and Windows) have 1GB of ram. Via the Tomcat configuration tool in windows, I was able to set the min/max/permgen sizes of the JVM. Those were set to 256/512/128 respectively. Now on the Ubuntu box, I've tried setting the JVM options in several different places including: Adding JAVA_OPTS & CATALINA_OPTS in /etc/environment Adding JAVA_OPTS in $CATALINA_HOME/bin/catalina.sh Creating setenv.sh and adding JAVA_OPTS in $CATALINA_HOME/bin Adding JAVA_OPTS directly to /etc/init.d/tomcat6 Un-commenting the JAVA_OPTS and modifying it in /etc/default/tomcat6 Nearly all of those methods did not work, except for modifying /etc/init.d/tomcat6 directly (and possibly the /etc/default/tomcat6 change, but I just did that). However, my understanding is that when you change these settings, only one JVM should be used for the entire tomcat6 instance, and that memory is shared among the applications. On our windows box, tomcat6 is run as a service, and appears to behave this way. However, when I look at htop on the linux box, there are 20+ tomcat6 instances (I have an app that triggers internal jobs every X seconds using chron, so maybe these are threads? Or are they actual instances) all with those memory settings. The app runs fine for a bit, but eventually ends up locking up. I'm guessing each of these apps thinks it has 512m to work with and never GC's and then locks tomcat up completely. What is the proper way to set all of this up?

• Why does my PowerShell script hang when called in PSEXEC via a batch (.cmd) file?

  I'm trying to remotely execute a PowerShell script using PSEXEC. The PowerShell script is called via a .cmd batch file. The reason we do this is to change the execution policy, run the powershell script then reset the execution policy again: On the remote server do-tasks.cmd looks like: powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" powershell DoTasks.ps1 powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy restricted}" The PowerShell script DoTasks.ps1 just does this for now: Write-Output "Hello World!" Both of these scripts live in c:\windows\system32 (for now) just so they're on the PATH. On the originating server I do this: psexec \\web1928 -u administrator -p "adminpassword" do-tasks.cmd When this runs I get the following response at the command line: c:\Windows\system32>powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" and the script runs no further. I can't ctrl-c to break the script and I just see ^C characters, I can type input from the keyboard and the characters are echoed to console. On the remote server I see that PowerShell.exe and CMD.exe are running in Task Manager's Process tab. If I end these processes then control returns to the command line on the originating server. I have tried this with just a simple .cmd batch file with a @echo hello world and it works just fine. Running do-tasks.cmd on the remote server via an RDP session works ok as well. Why is my remote batch file getting stuck when executing via PSEXEC?

  I followed exactly what I thought I understood the steps to be in the iPhone Programming Guide for specifying that my app requires telephony (I opened MyApp-info.plist, added a new key called UIRequiredDeviceCapabilties, set the key type to Dictionary, added a new row with key set to "telephony", type Boolean, value YES), and sent my app off to Apple. Lo and behold, eleven days later, I get a message from Apple that it's been rejected for not using the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key. WTF? How are you actually supposed to implement this?

• How to avoid lftp Certificate verification error?

  I'm trying to get my Pelican blog working. It uses lftp to transfer the actual blog to ones server, but I always get an error: mirror: Fatal error: Certificate verification: subjectAltName does not match ‘blogname.com’ I think lftp is checking the SSL and the quick setup of Pelican just forgot to include that I don't have SSL on my FTP. This is the code in Pelican's Makefile: ftp_upload: $(OUTPUTDIR)/index.html lftp ftp://$(FTP_USER)@$(FTP_HOST) -e "mirror -R $(OUTPUTDIR) $(FTP_TARGET_DIR) ; quit" which renders in terminal as: lftp ftp://[email protected] -e "mirror -R /Volumes/HD/Users/me/Test/output /myblog_directory ; quit" What I managed so far is, denying the SSL check by changing the Makefile to: lftp ftp://$(FTP_USER)@$(FTP_HOST) -e "set ftp:ssl-allow no" "mirror -R $(OUTPUTDIR) $(FTP_TARGET_DIR) ; quit" Due to my incorrect implementation I get logged in correctly (lftp [email protected]:~>) but the one line feature doesn't work anymore and I have to enter the mirror command by hand: mirror -R /Volumes/HD/Users/me/Test/output/ /myblog_directory This works without an error and timeout. The question is how to do this with a one liner. In addition I tried: set ssl:verify-certificate/ftp.myblog.com no This trick to disable certificate verification in lftp: $ cat ~/.lftp/rc set ssl:verify-certificate no However, it seems there is no "rc" folder in my lftp directory - so this prompt has no chance to work.

  I have a Visual Studio 2010 Solution that was imported from a Visual Studio 2008 solution that the Find all References does not work on. I've tried doing some searches on Google to try and figure this out but have come up empty handed. The find all references in VS2008 worked like a charm, we upgraded to 2010 and now no matter what file I'm in the Find All References doesn't return anything. Anyone have any idea how to possibly fix this or some good ways to "debug" the issue.

  I have a small pile of Sun V20z computers. I was trying to update the SP and BIOS firmwares in order to bring them all up to the same standard -- mostly to get the updated (ie actually useful) SP functionality, and figured that I would just do the BIOS while I was at it. For three of the four computers, it worked perfectly. However after the BIOS update, the fourth system won't boot. I did this: batch05-mgmt $ sp get mounts Local Remote /mnt 10.16.0.8:/export/v20z batch05-mgmt $ platform set os state update-bios /mnt/sw_images/platform/firmware/bios/V1.35.3.2/bios.sp This command may take several minutes. Please be patient.   I have a silverlight control on a page. It is set to "Width=100% Height=100%", and the containing div is set to an absoulute position with "0" on all edges. On a small screen, when the silverlight content is taller than the screen, the bottom is cut off, and there is no scroll bar. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

[HttpPost] public ActionResult ReportByRange(ReportViewModel viewModel) { Period reportPeriod = viewModel.ReportPeriod; // this is null } I expected MVC would try to set the string from the textbox to that property and it would automatically generate a Period (as in my FormCollection example), but it's not. How do I tell the textbox I've generated in the custom editor to poplate that property on the model?

• Issues with ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse when proxying to localhost and a different TCP port

  I am attempting to use ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse to proxy requests through Apache to another server instance that is bound to the localhost on a different TCP port that the Vhost exists (VHost is bound to :80, when the target is bound to :5000). However, I am repeatedly receiving HTTP 503 when accessing the Location. The server servicing request is an instance of python paste:httpserver, and it has been configured to use the /rhodecode suffix (as I saw this to be mentioned in other posts about ProxyPass). The documentation from the project itself, Rhodecode, reports to use the above. The issue is persistent if I target another server that is serving on a different port. Does ProxyPass allow proxying to a different TCP port? [update] I won't delete this, in case someone comes across the same issue. I had set an ErrorLog, and in that ErrorLog the following error was reported: [Wed Nov 09 11:36:35 2011] [error] (13)Permission denied: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to 127.0.0.1:5000 (192.168.100.100) failed [Wed Nov 09 11:36:35 2011] [error] ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (192.168.100.100) After some more research, I attempted to set SELinux to permissive (echo 0 >/selinux/enforce), and try again. It turns out the SELinux boolean httpd_can_network_connect must be set to 1. For persistence on reboot: setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=1

• Interface builder UIButton custom background image not working on simulator/device

  I'm trying to do something really simple. I have an image for a button and I'm trying to set it on a custom button in interface builder. I set the background image accordingly (no case sensitivity problem here). In interface builder it shows up, but in the simulator or on the device it doesn't appear at all. Just the button's text will appear. Do I need to turn on some flag or something of the sort?

I take it every process has it's own set of registers, and each thread can modify these registers right?. How then do multiple threads use the same registers without causing clashes? Or does each thread have its own set of registers?

  I have a web application that needs to support custom domains, in that regard I have set-up the following name based virtual server: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias * *.example.com www.example.com example.com RailsEnv production RackEnv production DocumentRoot /srv/www/example/current/public <Directory /srv/www/example/current/public> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews FollowSymLinks </Directory> ErrorLog /srv/www/example/log/error.log TransferLog /srv/www/example/log/access.log </VirtualHost> Notice the * as the server alias? that catches all the domains on that server. However, I have other sites on this server which I want to be excluded from this list. It is more economical for me to have a list of excluded domains than manually set every domain a user may register with at this service as a serverAlias... Perhaps this is not the best way to go, but I'm looking for help, in the best (relatively simple) way to set up a web-app that may catch any domains, while allowing other specific domains to be routed to different apps. • Ajax call to wcf windows service over ssl (https)

  I have a windows service which exposes an endpoint over http. Again this is a windows service (not a web service hosted in iis). I then call methods from this endpoint, using javascript/ajax. Everything works perfectly, and this the code I'm using in my windows service to create the endpoint: //Create host object WebServiceHost webServiceHost = new WebServiceHost(svcHost.obj, new Uri("http://192.168.0.100:1213")); //Add Https Endpoint WebHttpBinding binding = new WebHttpBinding(); webServiceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(svcHost.serviceContract, binding, string.Empty); //Add MEX Behaivor and EndPoint ServiceMetadataBehavior metadataBehavior = new ServiceMetadataBehavior(); metadataBehavior.HttpGetEnabled = true; webServiceHost.Description.Behaviors.Add(metadataBehavior); webServiceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(ServiceMetadataBehavior.MexContractName, MetadataExchangeBindings.CreateMexHttpBinding(), "mex"); webServiceHost.Open(); Now, my goal is to get this same model working over SSL (https not http). So, I have followed the guidance of several msdn pages, like the following: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733791(VS.100).aspx I have used makecert.exe to create a test cert called "bpCertTest". I have then used netsh.exe to configure my port (1213) with the test cert I created, all with no problem. Then, I've modified the endpoint code in my windows service to be able to work over https as follows: //Create host object WebServiceHost webServiceHost = new WebServiceHost(svcHost.obj, new Uri("https://192.168.0.100:1213")); //Add Https Endpoint WebHttpBinding binding = new WebHttpBinding(); binding.Security.Mode = WebHttpSecurityMode.Transport; binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.Certificate; webServiceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(svcHost.serviceContract, binding, string.Empty); webServiceHost.Credentials.ServiceCertificate.SetCertificate("CN=bpCertTest", StoreLocation.LocalMachine, StoreName.My); //Add MEX Behaivor and EndPoint ServiceMetadataBehavior metadataBehavior = new ServiceMetadataBehavior(); metadataBehavior.HttpsGetEnabled = true; webServiceHost.Description.Behaviors.Add(metadataBehavior); webServiceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(ServiceMetadataBehavior.MexContractName, MetadataExchangeBindings.CreateMexHttpsBinding(), "mex"); webServiceHost.Open(); The service creates the endpoint successfully, recognizes my cert in the SetCertificate() call, and the service starts up and running with success. Now, the problem is my javascript/ajax call cannot communicate with the service over https. I simply get some generic commication error (12031). So, as a test, I changed the port I was calling in the javascript to some other random port, and I get the same error - which tells me that I'm obviously not even reaching my service over https. I'm at a complete loss at this point, I feel like everything is in place, and I just can't see what the problem is. If anyone has experience in this scenario, please provide your insight and/or solution! Thanks!

  Hi, I'm on Mac Snow Leopard and I just installed git. I just tried git clone [email protected]:cakebook.git but that gives me this error. Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/username/Documents/cakebook/.git/ Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly What am I missing?
