  • safely encode and pass a string from a html link to PHP program

    - by bert
    What series of steps would be reqired to safely encode and pass a string from a html href using javascript to construct the link to a php program. in javascript set up URL // encodes a URI component. path = "mypgm.php?from=" + encodeURIComponent(myvar) ; in php: // get passed variables $myvar = isset($_GET['myvar']) ? ($_GET['myvar']) : ''; // decode - (make the string readable) $myvar = (rawurldecode($myvar)); // converts characters to HTML entities (reduce risk of attack) $myvar = htmlentities($myvar); // maybe custom sanitize program as well? // see [http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2668854/php-sanitizing-strings-to-make-them-url-and-filename-safe][1] $myvar = sanitize($myvar);

  • Blacklisting specific roads from Google Maps/Mapquest?

    - by Aaron
I'm looking to build a custom view of a Google Maps type of application for providing directions, but I need to blacklist specific roads or sections of roads. I'm not talking just avoiding highways or Toll Roads. I've been looking through the Google Maps and Mapquest APIs but haven't found anything of use yet. Initially I'm just looking to manually blacklist specific roads that I do not want to drive on, but eventually would like there to be some sort of automatic detection or suggestion. Is there built-in functionality to support blacklisting specific roads in Google Maps or Mapquest? Or is there any known way to hack it together?

  • How to make scrolling through images as fast as Apple's Photos app

    - by clozach
The Goal — On an iPhone, to browse through several hundred locally-stored jpgs using a UIScrollView. The Problem — Like many others before me, I've tried implementing a scroll view based on Apple's Page Control sample code and found it lacking. The biggest issue I'm currently up against is that the sample code's architecture doesn't seem to scale. With just a few images loaded from disk, everything's fine. Once the number of images gets into the dozens, though, scrolling suffers terribly: the scrollview stutters mid-scroll with each new swipe. The only code I've toyed with that comes even close to being reasonably responsive is Three20, but even there the performance doesn't hold a candle to Photos. For now, I'm just using Three20, but a faster, custom solution would definitely be preferable.

  • How can I define pre/post-increment behavior in Perl objects?

    - by Zaid
Date::Simple objects display this behavior. In the case of Date::Simple objects, $date++ returns the next day's date. Date::Simple objects are immutable. After assigning $date1 to $date2, no change to $date1 can affect $date2. This means, for example, that there is nothing like a set_year operation, and $date++ assigns a new object to $date. How can one custom define the pre/post-incremental behavior of an object, such that ++$object or $object-- performs a particular action? I've skimmed over perlboot, perltoot, perltooc and perlbot, but I don't see any examples showing how this can be done.

  • Best Practice - Validating Input In Simple GUI Application?

    - by Alex
I'm writing a GUI app with wxwidgets in C++ for one of my programming classes. We have to validate input and throw custom exceptions if it doesn't meet certain conditions. My question is, what is best practice when it comes to this? Should I write a seperate function that checks for errors, and have my event handler's call that function? Or should I do my error-checking in my event handlers? Or does it really matter? Thanks!

  • msvsmon is locking up my pdbs

    - by Sam Saffron
During developement of my media center plugin (which has a few custom build steps to gac stuff and such) msvsmon has a rather annoying behaviour. First compilation usually goes well, but subsequent compilations complain about myplugin.pdb being locked Error 1 Unexpected error creating debug information file 'C:\Users\sam\source\myfile.PDB' -- 'C:\Users\sam\source\obj\Debug\myfile.pdb: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. If I exit VS and nuke the object directory, I am able to compile again. Also, if I kill off msvsmon.exe I am able to compile again (but can not debug) Has anyone seen this error? Are there any workarounds? I already disabled live semantic errors, just in case.

  • Wicket : Can a Panel or Component react on a form submit without any boilerplate code?

    - by MRalwasser
I am currently evaluating Wicket and I am trying to figure out how things work. I have a question regarding form submit and panels (or other components). Imagine a custom wicket panel which contains a text field, doing as-you-type validation using ajax. This panel is added to a form. How can the Panel react a form submit (let's say because javascript/ajax is unavailable)? I am currently only aware of one solution: calling a panel's method inside the Form onSubmit() method. But this seems not like a "reusable" approach here, because I have to add boilerplate code to every form's onSubmit() which contains the panel (and every developer which use the panel must know this). So here comes my question: Is there any way that a Panel/Component can "detect" a form submit in some way? Or is there any other solution beside this? Thank you.

  • Testing ASP.NET security in Firefox

    - by blahblah
I'm not sure whether this question belongs on StackOverflow or SuperUser, but here goes nothing... I'm trying to test out some basic security problems on my personal ASP.NET website to see exactly how the custom validators, etc. work when tampering with the data. I've been looking at the Firefox extension TamperData which seems to do the trick, but it doesn't feel very professional at all. The issues I'm having with TamperData is that the textbox for the POST data is way too small to hold the ASP.NET view-state, so I have to copy that data into Emacs and then back again to be productive at all. I also don't like that there doesn't seem to be an option to only tamper with data which is from/to localhost. Any ideas on better extensions for the task or better methods to test it?

  • What industries develop the highest quality software? Lowest quality? Why?

    - by Derek Mahar
From your experience, of those industries that develop custom software for internal use such as financial services companies, which ones produce higher quality software measured in defect rates and, more qualitatively, ease of maintenance over the long term? What contributes the most to this achievement of higher quality? Is it due to better software development practices such as greater emphasis on testing or specification? Developers who better understand the tools or who are strong problem solvers? Better communication between team members? On the flip-side, which industries do you think produce the lowest quality software? Why?

  • Is there a way to force HTTPS protocol in a Kohana 2.3 site?

    - by alex
I've got a site built on top of Kohana 2.3 which I now have to make all links https. I set this in application/config/config.php. $config['site_protocol'] = 'https'; This makes all links on the site use the https protocol. Except, when I first enter the site via http, it will not automatically forward to https. Is there a way to make Kohana do this, or do I just need to do some custom coding? I've found this .htaccess rule too, will it be fine to just drop this in? RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !=443 RewriteRule ^ https://yourdomain.tld%{REQUEST_URI} [NS,R,L] Thanks.

  • Requirements of an issue/bug tracker

    - by James Brooks
I've been looking at various issue/bug trackers available on the net. There are some very good ones, but I'm unable to use them as my server does not support Perl/Ruby (for example), I'm not too bothered however because I am able to write code in PHP and as such would prefer something in that language. So I've taken it upon myself to write a custom issue tracker system. As of now it's in early planning stages, and before I continue, I'd like to find out what people need from such an application. My current list of things to add include: Creating/Editing/Deleting issues - both on user and admin level Related issues (similar to that of STO) Admins will be able to create builds/milestones and version control of projects Admins will be able to assign users/groups to a project Roadmap of projects Possible SVN integration with Git? What do you think? There are a couple more things I'd like to add, but I'm sure you'll think of a better way of adding such feature. What would you like to see from an issue tracker?

  • In LaTeX, how can one add a header/footer in the document class Letter?

    - by Brian M. Hunt
    In LaTeX, how can one create a document using the Letter documentclass, but with customized headers and footers? Typically I would use: \usepackage{fancyhdr} \pagestyle{fancy} \lhead{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{Custom left-head-note} } \lfoot{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{\textit{#2}}} \rfoot{\footnotesize Page \thepage\ of \pageref{LastPage}} \renewcommand\headheight{24pt} \renewcommand\footrulewidth{0.4pt} However, with \documentclass{letter}, this doesn't work at all. Suggestions are duly appreciated. EDIT: Here is sample code that doesn't work (for any apparent reason): \documentclass[12pt]{letter} \usepackage{fontspec}% font selecting commands \usepackage{xunicode}% unicode character macros \usepackage{xltxtra} % some fixes/extras % page counting, header/footer \usepackage{fancyhdr} \usepackage{lastpage} \pagestyle{fancy} \lhead{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{Draft 1} } \lfoot{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{\textit{2}}} \cfoot{} \rhead{\footnotesize 3} \rfoot{\footnotesize Page \thepage\ of \pageref{LastPage}} \renewcommand{\headheight}{24pt} \renewcommand{\footrulewidth}{0.4pt} \begin{document} \name{ Joe Laroo } \signature{ Joe Laroo } \begin{letter}{ To-Address } \renewcommand{\today}{ February 16, 2009 } \opening{ Opening } Content of the letter. \closing{ Yours truly, } \end{letter} \end{document}

  • Two models, one STI and a Validation

    - by keruilin
Let's say I have two tables -- Products and Orders. For the sake of simplicity assume that only one product can be purchased at a time so there is no join table like order_items. So the relationship is that Product has many orders, and Order belongs to product. Therefore, product_id is a fk in the Order table. The product table is STI -- with the subclasses being A, B, C. When the user orders subclass Product C, two special validations must be checked on the Order model fields order_details and order_status. These two fields can be nil for all other Product subclasses (ie A and B). In other words, no validation needs to run for these two fields when a user purchases A and B. My question is: How do I write validations (perhaps custom?) in the Order model so that the Order model knows to only run the validations for the two fields -- order_details and order_status -- when Product subclass C is being saved to the orders table?

  • JSF : Better way to check for existence of <h:message for="id"/>

    - by user552809
I have a form in which validation error message needs to be displayed below the input elements. The error needs to be highlighted by showing an error bubble around the error message and the input text. To achieve this, I need to check for the existence of h:messages for individual elements. I am able to check for the existence of global error messages as follows <h:panelGroup rendered="#{not empty facesContext.messages}"> </h:panelGroup> How I can check the same for specific client id (say first name). So something like faceContent.messages("creditCardNo") A solution I have currently is to create a custom resolver but was wondering if there is a better solution.

How would I change these values?

  • My helper methods in controller

My controller: def create_user @user = User.new(params) if @user.save status = 'success' link = link_to_profile(@user) #it's my custom helper in Application_Helper.rb else status = 'error' link = nil end render :json => {:status => status, :link => link} end My helper: def link_to_profile(user) link = link_to(user.login, {:controller => "users", :action => "profile", :id => user.login}, :class => "profile-link") return(image_tag("/images/users/profile.png") + " " + link) end I have tried such methods: ApplicationController.helpers.link_to_profile(@user) # It raises: NoMethodError (undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass) and: class Helper include Singleton include ApplicationHelper include ActionView::Helpers::TextHelper include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper include ApplicationHelper end def help Helper.instance end help.link_to_profile(@user) # It also raises: NoMethodError (undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass) In addition, yes, I KNOW about :helper_method, and it works, but i don't want to overload my ApplicationController with a plenty of that methods

  • MOSS 2007 team site page title

    - by nav
Hi, I'm trying to display the page title (html title) on the default.aspx page of a custom site template. The template is based on a MOSS team site template. All that displays is the URL of the page as the page title. Can I change the code in the default.aspx and/or the sites master page to define the title myself? Details of the deafult.aspx and default.master page as below: Thanks. Default.aspx: <asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderPageTitle" runat="server"> <SharePoint:EncodedLiteral runat="server" text="<%$Resources:wss,multipages_homelink_text%>" EncodeMethod="HtmlEncode"/> - <SharePoint:ProjectProperty Property="Title" runat="server"/> </asp:Content> default.master <Title ID=onetidTitle><asp:ContentPlaceHolder id=PlaceHolderPageTitle runat="server"/></Title>

  • Block All Keyboard Input in a Linux Application (Using Qt or Mono)

    - by Evans
Hi, I'm working on a online quiz client where we use a dedicated custom-made linux distro which contains only the quiz client software along with text editors and other utility software. When the user has started the quiz, I want to prevent him/her from minimizing the window/closing it/switching to the desktop or other windows. The quizzes can be attempted using only the mouse, so I need the keyboard to be completed disabled for the period of the quiz. How could I do this, using Qt or Mono? I'm ready to use any low-level libraries/drivers, if required. Thanks Evans

  • Strategies for Error Handling in .NET Web Services

    - by Jarrod
I have a fairly substantial library of web services built in .NET that I use as a data model for our company web sites. In most .NET applications I use the Global ASAX file for profiling, logging, and creating bug reports for all exceptions thrown by the application. Global ASAX isn't available for web services so I'm curious as to what other strategies people have come up with to work around this limitation. Currently I just do something along these lines: <WebMethod()> _ Public Function MyServiceMethod(ByVal code As Integer) As String Try Return processCode(code) Catch ex As Exception CustomExHandler(ex) 'call a custom function every time to log exceptions Return errorObject End Try End Function Anybody have a better way of doing things besides calling a function inside the Catch?

  • Magento: How do I retrieve values from fields submitted with the payment method?

    - by Joseph
Ok. This is getting a little frustrating. I am trying to create a custom payment module for Magento. The purpose is to use Authorize.net's CIM so that we don't have to worry so much about PCI compliance. The issue I am having is that the users need to be able to access their previous credit cards and use those for purchasing. I have the previous cards being stored in the database. They are also being displayed in the form in the checkout process. My issue comes when I click continue after selecting the payment method. How do I get the values I submitted in the form? Specifically, the value of the radio button the saved code is attached to? I am not sure what if any code is needed for me to post, so let me know if you need anything in particular. Thanks.

  • Rails override validator message

    - by Anand
Hi, I have a site thats served in 2 flavours, English and French. Here's some code app/views/user/register.html.erb ----------------- <% form_for .....> <%= f.text_field :first_name %> <% end %> app/models/user.rb ------------------ class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :first_name end Now to display the error message in case if the site is being served in the French version, I have app/config/locales/fr.yml ------------------------- activerecord: errors: messages: empty: "ne peut pas être vide" So if someone does not fill in a first name, the validator takes the name of the field and appends the custom message for empty clause giving "First name ne peut pas être vide" which is incorrect, coz 'First name' in French is 'Prénom', hence it should be "Prénom ne peut pas être vide" Please can someone suggest a way of achieving the desired result.

  • Skinning WinAPI Controls

    - by Brad
If you've ever seen an application in the Adobe Creative Suite 5 (CS5), you may have noticed that it doesn't look like the native Windows GUI.. They have modified it to have a different look to it. Where would someone begin to make an application that has a custom skin? CS5 uses the Adobe Source library for it's widget/control management, so I tried downloading and compiling the Adobe Source Library to see if I could make a nice skinned app like Photoshop CS5, but after finally getting it to compile and tested it, I realized the library was only for managing widgets and not skinning the GUI, like CS5 has. Where would I begin to make a nice skinned program like Adobe Cs5 applications? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do I simply use the WM_PAINT Message from WinAPI and render my own widgets using openGL or something?

  • How can I store all the properties of a class in an array of objects?

    - by Richard77
Hello, Let's say I've a class myClass which has few properties, such as property1, property2, perperty3, etc. Now, I'd like to populate an array with each of those properties so that, I can access each of them through its index. Is there an automatic way of doing so? Here's an example from SportsStore (Pro ASPN.NET MVC/Steve Sanderson/Apress) on how to gather all the active controllers in the the 'Assembly'. var controllerTypes = from t in Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetTypes() where typeof(IController).IsAssignableFrom(t) select t; foreach(Type t in controllerTypes) //Do something I wonder if there is some thing like the one above I can use to collect (only) properties of a class and store them in a array, no matter each one's type value (int, string, or custom type) I hope I was able to express myself clearly. Otherwise I can amend the text. Thanks for helping.

  • How to limit choice field options based on another choice field in django admin

    - by umnik700
I have the following models: class Category(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=40) class Item(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=40) category = models.ForeignKey(Category) class Demo(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=40) category = models.ForeignKey(Category) item = models.ForeignKey(Item) In the admin interface when creating a new Demo, after user picks category from the dropdown, I would like to limit the number of choices in the "items" drop-down. If user selects another category then the item choices should update accordingly. I would like to limit item choices right on the client, before it even hits the form validation on the server. This is for usability, because the list of items could be 1000+ being able to narrow it down by category would help to make it more manageable. Is there a "django-way" of doing it or is custom JavaScript the only option here?
