  Hi all I am trying to do a very simple dynamic query which will select a column dynamically I mean the selection of column would depend upon another query so I would select x col if cond1 and y if cond2 so I tried using query.Select(colname) using the extension method also tried using Func< but I am not sure how to go about this I have read about dynamic extension for linq and also reflection but woth reflection to the GetValue function does not return value for my column in database. please help me out I am jus trying to select a column dynamically at runtime and no condtions really on it.

• Linq to SQL and Realtime Data

  I have an application that needs to constantly (every 50ms), call to an MVC action, and pickup/drop off data. I am using Linq to SQL and MVC because of how simple they are to implement, and I know that they aren't perfect when it comes to performance, but it works relatively well, but the best speed I can get with my current approach is 200ms (without requests overlapping). Each call to the site will create a new instance of the datacontext, query/insert it and return that data. Is there a way to have the datacontext static, but submitchanges say every 5 seconds, so that i am pretty much hitting an in-memory version of the data?

  We are using Linq-to-SQL with stored Procedures we need help on one of our problem. We are having user tables which is having all field required for user table like firstname,lastname and other fields that table is also there in our DBML files.Now the problem is that we are having a stored procedure that is mapped to table-User returning a field called fullname (Combination of firstname and lastname)which is not there in usertable. So what is the best way to slove this. Another thing is that one of other stored procedure return inner join of two tables with mix columns in this case how can i mapped that stored procedure with Table mapped info class in our dbml files.

  I have a list of keywords in an ArrayList and I wanted to be able to build a query to find records in a table based on this keywords. Since the list of keywords is dynamic I cannot build a fixed query here. if I do something like this: foreach (string kw in keywords) { query = query.Where(p => p.Name.StartsWith(kw)); } The "StartsWith" is required here because I need to search those records that actually start with the provided keyword. In T-SQL it Would be something like this Select * from Table where Name like 'keyword1%' or Name like 'keyword2%' or Name like 'keyword3%' or ... But I need to be able to do this in LINQ...Is this possible?

However I need to create cloned version of data and release data as soon as possible. data can be changed in other thread so I want to get immediate snapshot of it. • Using database default values with Linq to SQL codewise

  I am using Dynamic Data with linq to SQL and SQL Server 2008. I have a GUID column that gets his value from the default value with newguid(). When I set IsDbGenerated to true in the designer it works like a charm. But when I renew table this property is set back to false again. So I added it to the metadata. For some reason it's not being pickup, "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" is being inserted in database. The displayname and readonly change are being pick up. What am I missing?   I'm building a word anagram program that uses a database which contains one simple table: Words --------------------- varchar(15) alphagram varchar(15) anagram (other fields omitted for brevity) An alphagram is the letters of a word arranged in alphabetical order. For example, the alphagram for OVERFLOW would be EFLOORVW. Every Alphagram in my database has one or more Anagrams. • Taking 2 attributes from XElement to create a dictionary LINQ

  I'm trying to take one attribute to use as the key, and another to use as the value. If I use (xDoc is an XDocument object in the example): Dictionary<string, XElement> test = xDoc.Descendants() .Where<XElement>(t => t.Name == "someelement") .ToDictionary<XElement, string>(t => t.Attribute("myattr").Value.ToString()); I get a dictionary with the myattr value as key (which is what I want) but the entire XElement object as the value. What I want to do, is to select a second attribute to set as the value property on each dictionary item, but can't seem to figure that out. Is it possible to do all of this in 1 Linq statement?   Hello, Given I don't know if the parameter will be null or not and I want to use it in the following way: if Param != null then compare with its id if Param == null then compare with null. Something like that: var c = from cat in context.Categories where ParamCat != null && cat.ParentId == ParamCat.Id || ParamCat == null && cat.ParentId == null select c; If ParamCat is null as soon as I try to get something from c (for example c.Count()) it throws the exception. Usually when we use some kind of condition it stop comparison as soon as condition fail especially if we use AND. For example this code will not cause any exception: if (ParamCat != null && cat.ParentId == RaramCat.Id) { } If so, why the linq code above throw exception? (Null reference) Thanks

  Hello, I have 2 tables Table1 with columns [BId,Name,Amount] Table2 with columns [CId,BId, ExpenseType,Expense]. BId Is the foreign key in Table2. The Amount field in Table1 is always higher than Expense in Table2. I need to update the values of Amount (increase or decrease) based on value of Expense and I want to do it in single query in LINQ. Eg If the Expense has to be updated with 200, I would decrease(negate) Amount value with 200. If Expense is reduce to 100 then the Amount is increased by a value of 100.   Hello Guys, I have a datatable with plenty of records. And i have a range like lowerRange = 10 and upperRange = 200. I want the pull the records starting at row 10 till row 200. Now i don't want to add any new index based column into the datatable. Is there any way with the help of linq, i can pull the set of rows based on some internal datatable index? I guess, the datatable must be maintaining some row index implicitly. Please suggest.

The data is 1 client with 2 addresses and 1 client with 1 address.   I'm using LINQ to SQL and after I submit some changes I want to spawn a thread which looks through all the changes and updates our lucene index as necessary. My code looks vaguely like: (new Thread(() => { UpdateIndex(context.GetChangeSet()); }).Start(); Sometimes though I get an InvalidOperationException, which I think is because context.GetChangeSet() is not thread-safe, and so if the change set is modified in one thread while another thread is enumerating through it, problems arise. Is there a "thread-safe" version of GetChangeSet()? Or some way I can do ChangeSet.clone() or something?

  If it's important to keep data access 'away' from business and presentation layers, what alternatives or approaches can I take so that my LINQ to SQL entities can stay in the data access layer? So far I seem to be simply duplicating the classes produced by sqlmetal, and passing those object around instead simply to keep the two layers appart. For example, I have a table in my DB called Books. If a user is creating a new book via the UI, the Book class generated by sqlmetal seems like a perfect fit although I'm tightly coupling my design by doing so.

• Is a live internet connection required for push notification?

  This maybe a silly question, but I need confirmation and I have no one else to ask. I am trying to understand the implications of implementing my own push notification for android mobile devices. This requires a continuous TCP connection to a server, though most of the time it will be idle. My assumption is that, even when idle, for the server to be able to push data to the client through the TCP connection, an active internet connection will always be required, and if the connection is disrupted (i.e. the user switches the connection off) this push will no longer be possible. Is this assumption correct ?
