• System.Net.WebProxy in .NET Client

  I don't yet have a good understanding of how the network is set up at my current client, but here is my issue. The vendor has a normal URL, but it might be a leased line. I have a .NET program that calls an external .asmx service. If I go to IE, Connections, LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatic detect settings" and uncheck "Use Automatic Configuration Sript", then the .NET program runs and access the web service fine. But then, to access internet again from the browser, I have to re-check the two boxes, and so on throughout the day while we are testing and browsing. I'm hoping to put some code like this in the .NET program to avoid us having to constantly change: if (chkUseProxy.Checked) { myclient.Proxy = new System.Net.WebProxy(""); } I tried null and empty string and so far not able to connect without errors. Is this possible, and if so, what might be the correct parms for the constructor? Or are there other objects or properties that would need to be set? Thanks, Neal Walters

• Create MSI for slipstream SQL 2008 install

  I am looking at creating an MSI that will check/install the prerequisites of SQL Server 2008 and after the prerequisites are installed I will start my slipstream 2008 install. I am currently trying to do this through VS 2008 Deployment Projects, but I cannot just simple add the folders of the SQL slipstream into the setup project without recreating the entire folder structure of the SQL install. So my questions are: Is this a possible to do through Deployment Projects? (if yes, please assist with links or help) Is there a better way to do this? (I would prefer not to use WISE)

• Output Path property issue on build server

  I am working in the .NET 3.5 framework. I have a project that builds fine locally. I can build it on our build server when the source files are posted there. However when I am running the build process through Visual Studio 2010 I get a warning that says "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.5\Microsoft.Common.targets: The OutputPath property is not set for this project. Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid Configuration/Platform combination. Configuration='DEV' Platform='Any CPU'" Any suggestions anyone has or if you need additional information please let me know. I have been struggling with this for a couple of days now. • How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in a Java program?

  I am writing a piece of code in Java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the Java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the Java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. • DSP - How are frequency amplitudes modified using DFT?

  I'm trying to implement a DFT-based equalizer (not FFT) for the sole purpose of learning. To check if it works I took an audio signal, analyzed it and then resynthesized it again with no modifications made to the frequency spectrum. So far so good. Now I tried to silence some frequency bands, just by setting their amplitudes to zero before resynthesis, but definitely it's not the way to go. What I get is a rather distorted signal. I'm using the so-called 'standard way of calculating the DFT' which is by correlation. I first tried to modify the real part amplitudes only, then modifying both the real and imaginary part amplitudes. I also tried to convert the DFT output to polar notation, then modifying the magnitude and convert back to rectangular notation, but none of this is working. Can someone show me what I'm doing wrong? I tried to find info on this subject in the internet but couldn't find any. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I want to create some kind of AJAX script or call that continuously will check a MySQL database if any new messages has arrived. When there is a new message in the database, the AJAX script should invoke a kind of alert box or message box. I’m not quite a AJAX expert (yet anyway) and have Googled around to find a solution but I’m having a hard time to figure out where to begin. I imagine that it is kind of the same method that an AJAX chat is using to see if any new chat-message has been send. I’ve also tried to search for AJAX (httpxmlrequest) call in a continuously and infinity loop but still haven’t got a solution yet. I hope there is someone, which can help me with such a AJAX script or maybe nudge me in the right direction. Thanks Sincerely Mestika

Both account can successfully log into the Office Communicator client, but fail using the API. When creating the network credential, if I pass in the username in the form domain\username, I get this error: SupportedAuthenticationProtocols=Ntlm, Kerberos Realm=SIP Communications Service FailureReason=InvalidCredentials ErrorCode=-2146893044 Microsoft.Rtc.Signaling.AuthenticationException: The log on was denied. I want to check if there are actually available data then receive else do not wait.. (Note the current receive method waits until the server sends a message)

I;ve tried like: private static final String SPACE_PATH_REGEX_EXCLUDE ="[~a-z|A-Z|0-9|\\/|\\-|\\_|\\+]+"; if (myCompanyName.matches(SPACE_PATH_REGEX)) { myNewCompanySpaceName = myCompanyName; } else{ myNewCompanySpaceName = myCompanyName.replaceAll(SPACE_PATH_REGEX_EXCLUDE, "_"); } but does not work..., so in the 2nd regex "~" seems to not omit the following chars. Any ideea?

  Its great when you can return a null/empty object in most cases to avoid nulls, but what about Collection like objects? In Java, Map returns null if key in get(key) is not found in the map. The best way I can think of to avoid nulls in this situation is to return an Entry<T> object, which is either the EmptyEntry<T>, or contains the value T. Sure we avoid the null, but now you can have a class cast exception if you don't check if its an EmptyEntry<T>. Is there a better way to avoid nulls in Map's get(K)? And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null, so don't say just use nulls.

See chapter 8 of GINA in the mean-time until these examples are updated.] My suspicion therefore is that the syntax of the HTML builder has changed, however I don't have the book so I cannot check and I cannot seem to find any relevant example of this working online. Does anyone know how the syntax is supposed to be in Groovy 1.7 and have got this working?

• How to capture any key in X?

  Hi, I am building an application for which I need to periodically get information about users keyboard. It is going to be user idle detection application. I have a fairly simple solution to periodically check if the mouse has been moved. But I can't figure any reasonable non root way to detect if the keyboard has been pressed. I was thinking about registering a hook every timer timeout and on any key press to unregister it. So if there is no key press for a long time then my program will know if the user is idle. Anyway, I couldn't find any global hooks for any key, including modifiers. Is there an easy way to do this? Or would someone have a better way to detect keyboard idleness? Thanks, David Polák

  Hello, I have a system where registered users can vote up/vote down comment for a picture. Something very similar to SO's voting system. I store the votes in a table with values as such; vote_id | vote_comment_id | vote_user_id | vote_date | vote_type Now I have few a question concerned the speed and efficiency for the following; PROB: Once a user opens the picture page with comments I need, if that user has already voted UP/DOWN a comment to show it like; "you voted up" or "you voted down" next to the comment (in SO it the vote image is highlighted) MY POSSIBLE SOL: Right now when I open a picture page for each comment I loop thru, I loop thru my table of votes as well and check if a user has voted and show the status (I compare the vote_user_id with the user's session). How efficient is this? Anyone have a better approach to tackle this kind of problem?

I have this problem using JBOSS, EJB3 and MSSQL Express . i'm trying to persist an entity with an Blob attribute which was converted into a byte[], apparently it create the entity perfectly, no error was logged at jboss's console. but when i check into database the column is null. i already checked the Object to byte[] method and it is fine. i tried assigning Image and varbinary(Max) data type to this column. so i really don't know what it happening, why the column is not inserted into database. thanks a lot.

• Python unit-testing with nose: Making sequential tests

  I am just learning how to do unit-testing. I'm on Python / nose / Wing IDE. (The project that I'm writing tests for is a simulations framework, and among other things it lets you run simulations both synchronously and asynchronously, and the results of the simulation should be the same in both.) The thing is, I want some of my tests to use simulation results that were created in other tests. For example, synchronous_test calculates a certain simulation in synchronous mode, but then I want to calculate it in asynchronous mode, and check that the results came out the same. How do I structure this? Do I put them all in one test function, or make a separate asynchronous_test? Do I pass these objects from one test function to another? Also, keep in mind that all these tests will run through a test generator, so I can do the tests for each of the simulation packages included with my program.

  Hi, I have a usercontrol UC1 with a combobox and a button. From the constructor, after initializing all the controls, I am populating the combobox with an array of information brought from other class library. I have kept the UC1 on windows form. When I tried to open the form's designer I see some errors and a suggestion to rebuild to fix the errors. After searching over net I found that the logic of populating the combobox is the culprit. I changed the code with an additional check of null and the issue is fixed now. My question is, how am i able to see the same usercontrol seperatly in designer view, but not when i placed the UC1 on a form and trying to see the designer view for the form? The same combobox populating logic should affect the drawing of UC1 when I try to see it in designer view right? Thanks, AK.

In particular, I'm interested in knowing how the 'infinite' landscape is generated. Are there any tutorials/articles describing this? I came across procedural generation, but I'm not quite sure what topics I should be looking for (or if it's even procedural generation).   Tornado enables win32 support by faking Python's fcntl function using SetHandleInformation, which is available via ctypes on Windows. After some other small fixes, this actually works using IronPython on Windows as well (sadly, IronPython is five times slower). I'd like to get Tornado working on any CLI platform, such using Mono on OSX or Linux. Is there a managed, cross-platform, .Net approach that can fake fcntl?
