• Visual Studio 2008 error while debugging an app with "uiAccess=true" in the manifest

  I have a C# WinForms application that has "uiAccess" set to "True" in it's manifest file. When I try to start/debug it in Visual Studio 2008 SP1 under Windows 7 x64 (RTM) I get this error: Running an Accessibility application requires following the steps described in Help. The help button is a broken link, and clicking ok just closes the application. It is digitally signed, and I can start it just fine in Windows Explorer. Here is the same bug in MS Connect, but unfortunately it's closed: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=384183 Question: Can anyone else using Vista/Win7 x64 (with UAC enabled) confirm that they experience the same problem? • css absolute positioning hidden scrollbars ... with a twist

  I'm working on a website that targets 1024 X 768 as the minimum resolution. So, we're at about 970px wide. Design came back with an interesting layout that has a centered site with a banner that actually exceeds this width (1288px to be exact) that will look good for users with greater resolution, but look fine at 1024. So, to prevent scrollbars from showing up for those at 1024 I positioned the banner absolutely and used overflow-x: hidden on the body. This works just fine across our target browsers. Now, the client has come back and asked for scrollbars to be present for users on 800 X 600 (yes, this is not the target) so they can see a critical login button. How can this be accommodated for those 2% of their users without making radical changes? All I can think of is to detect their screen width and remove the overflow-x:hidden. You have to love when requirements change late in the build process! • Why would dynamically changing the stroke type of a GestureOverlayView cause unusual behaviour?

  I recently introduced multi-stroke gestures into my application. This is a preference so I set the StrokeType dynamically in Activity.OnCreate. What I have discovered is that if you change the StrokeType so that it is different to the setting in the layout file, it changes the behaviour of the GestureOverlayView in the following way. The normal behaviour is that you draw a gesture and it stays on the screen after it is drawn. When you change the stroke type dynamically however, any gesture drawn on the screen disappears immediately after the OnGestureEnded event has fired. I reloaded the sample GesturesBuilder application and confirmed it has the same problem if you add the second line shown here: GestureOverlayView overlay = (GestureOverlayView) findViewById(R.id.gestures_overlay); overlay.setGestureStrokeType(GestureOverlayView.GESTURE_STROKE_TYPE_SINGLE); overlay.addOnGestureListener(new GesturesProcessor()); } The default in the layout is MULTIPLE but changing it to single changes the behaviour. If you keep the above line but set it to what it already is, the behaviour is not affected. Is this a bug in the Android gestures library and does anyone know a workaround? Note that this is on an HTC Magic so it could also be a handset issue.

  I'm trying to replicate the Perl and PHP style pack and unpack functions in JavaScript. Unsigned integers were easy enough, so my pack('n') and pack('N') are ok. But my lack of a computer science background is a hurdle now and I don't know where to start with pack('d') for packing JavaScript's standard floating point. Is there a JavaScript library for this out there? If not, is there a good resource where I can learn how to do this? I am fine with bitwise and binary level operations in JS, I just don't know where to start with the logic. Thanks.

• Finding open contiguous blocks of time for every day of a month, fast

  I am working on a booking availability system for a group of several venues, and am having a hard time generating the availability of time blocks for days in a given month. This is happening server-side in PHP, but the concept itself is language agnostic -- I could be doing this in JS or anything else. Given a venue_id, month, and year (6/2012 for example), I have a list of all events occurring in that range at that venue, represented as unix timestamps start and end. This data comes from the database. I need to establish what, if any, contiguous block of time of a minimum length (different per venue) exist on each day. For example, on 6/1 I have an event between 2:00pm and 7:00pm. The minimum time is 5 hours, so there's a block open there from 9am - 2pm and another between 7pm and 12pm. This would continue for the 2nd, 3rd, etc... every day of June. Some (most) of the days have nothing happening at all, some have 1 - 3 events. The solution I came up with works, but it also takes waaaay too long to generate the data. Basically, I loop every day of the month and create an array of timestamps for each 15 minutes of that day. Then, I loop the time spans of events from that day by 15 minutes, marking any "taken" timeslot as false. Remaining, I have an array that contains timestamp of free time vs. taken time: //one day's array after processing through loops (not real timestamps) array( 12345678=>12345678, // <--- avail 12345878=>12345878, 12346078=>12346078, 12346278=>false, // <--- not avail 12346478=>false, 12346678=>false, 12346878=>false, 12347078=>12347078, // <--- avail 12347278=>12347278 ) Now I would need to loop THIS array to find continuous time blocks, then check to see if they are long enough (each venue has a minimum), and if so then establish the descriptive text for their start and end (i.e. 9am - 2pm). WHEW! By the time all this looping is done, the user has grown bored and wandered off to Youtube to watch videos of puppies; it takes ages to so examine 30 or so days. Is there a faster way to solve this issue? To summarize the problem, given time ranges t1 and t2 on day d, how can I determine the remaining time left in d that is longer than the minimum time block m. This data is assembled on demand via AJAX as the user moves between calendar months. Results are cached per-page-load, so if the user goes to July a second time, the data that was generated the first time would be reused. Any other details that would help, let me know. Such that while playing_thread.isActive == True, create and .start() the thread. Then if .isActive == False, pop queue[0] and load the next .wav file. Problem is, my UI will lock up and I'll have to terminate the program. Any ideas would be appreciated.

• Android app crashes on second run

  I have been working on my app and it runs on the simulator fine. I loaded it into my phone and now I have a problem. It runs fine when I first start it and also if I pick home and then restart it; however, if I use the back arrow and then restart it it crashes on that time, but will work out the next time I start it. I think it has to do with some kind of memory build up, but I verified onDestroy is being called, I figured that deletes everything my program created, right?

  Hello all. I have been looking through Google and SO for something that could help me solve this but I have run into a block. I am a bit new to Python but I am looking for a way to run multiple apps that will continuously run in the background. For example, I need 4 apps to start up with a param -appnum set to a different value. I would like to use python to count up and then start up a new app that will continue to run. I assumed I would use subprocess but I feel a bit overwhelmed by the documentation. I also plan to have the app print out sequences of numbers and would like to redirect this to a file.   Hi buddies, I'm developing on Ubuntu based, actually I got one script in-charged on GUI(console) setup. It runs before another scripts (rcX.d) start. Currently, I installed this script on rc2.d and start earlier than other ones. But when run on real machine, I can't input any keystroke on "dialog --inputbox" or whiptail through shell script. Additionally, It runs well on my Virtual Machine (Virtual Box and Vmware), that's so strange! So, does anybody give some help or point me any clues for overcome this ? Thanks

  I'm currently taking computer systems in a technical institute and I will start looking for a coop job by next September. Since summer vacation is only a few weeks away, I was wondering what I should learn or do to help me land a job and do well in it. I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of most of my classmates since I got around 1.5 years "head start." For now, I'm planning to learn how to use source control (git - for no reason really) and was actually thinking of learning Scheme through SICP and maybe build something nice with it at the end. On the other hand, I'm wondering if it's better to expand on what I know right now and I'm thinking of C++ since I enjoy it a lot more than others like Java. Can I get advice on this? thanks!

  I am currently writing a Haskell program that does some initialization work and then calls ncmpcpp. What I am trying to do is start ncmpcpp and terminate the Haskell program, so that only ncmpcpp is left (optionally, the program can keep running in the background, as long as it's unintrusive) However, even though I am able to start ncmpcpp, I cannot interact with it. I see its output, but input appears to be impossible. • Developing for iPhone or Android?

  I'd like to start developing for iPhone or Android in my spare time, as a chance to learn something new but also hoping make some extra income. I'm not sure which is the best development for me to start developing on. I own an iPhone, but I don't have a Mac (which I would need to use the SDK), plus with the iPhone I believe there's an annual charge to develop for it. As far as I understand Android, the SDK is free and can be used on Windows. Professionally I develop using .net and C#, which sounds more similar to the Java based Android enviroment. Another negative I perceive against iPhone is it has a much more crowded App Store, I would think apps get better exposure on Android?
