• Trying to find a match in two strings - Python

  I have a user inputting two strings and then I want to check if there are any similar characters and if there is, get the position where the first similarity occurs, without using the find or index function. Below is what I have so far but I doesn't fully work. With what I have so far, I'm able to find the similarities but Im not sure how to find the position of those similarities without using the index function. string_a = "python" string_b = "honbe" same = [] a_len = len(string_a) b_len = len(string_b) for a in string_a: for b in string_b: if a == b: same.append(b) print (same) Right now the output is: ['h', 'o', 'n'] So basically what I am asking is, how can I find the position of those characters without using the Python Index function?

  I have an ASP.NET page where I have a button When a user clicks on the button,I will check whether the user has logged in or not.If not logged in I will show a modal popup to login (using jQueryUI). • Very simple jQuery rollover

  I made a very simple jQuery img rollover function inspired by this one: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000224.php. It just check all the imgs that contain _off in their name and swap them with an img with the same name but "_on" instead of "_off". Since I can't use background imgs in my layout, I feel that's an handy solution. But I've got the feeling that the swapping is not smooth, like if the function runs slow. What do you think? Are there ways to optimize it? • Crash in Reachability API

  I'm using the Reachability sample code provided by Apple to check the network connectivity and get notified of changes (Reachability Sample code). I had a look at some crash locks of my app. It seems that some crashes are due to the Reachability/SystemConfiguration Reachablity API stuff (see below). SCNetworkReachabilityGetFlags is only used in the Reachability class provided by Apple. Or am I misinterpreting the crash log? • DDMS Not Showing Threads From Device

  I'd like to check for memory leaks in my Android app using the DDMS feature in Eclipse. When I launch an emulated device, the threads display properly for the emulated device, starting with 8600 and up. However, when I connect my Droid to the PC, the device shows up just fine in DDMS. The logcat is generated correctly, and I can view the file structure. However, threads do not display. I get "no client selected" in the Threads pane, and there is no drop-down icon next to the device listing. Do I need to change some particular setting in Eclipse? Is this maybe a driver issue?

  Hi have noticed today whilst writing a simple iPhone app that Xcode sometimes starts a new folder in applications, whilst your still working on the same app. /Users/Fuzzygoat/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/4E5EF4F0-F410-46A6-888C-0D23BB97D2DC Does anyone know what causes Xcode to swap to a new app folder (i.e. the one named "4E5EF4F0-F410-46A6-888C-0D23BB97D2DC") EDIT_001: One thing I have noticed is that I have been doing a lot of quitting an application and restarting to check a set of archive methods, and that does tend to confuse it sometimes. A couple of times it has not found saved data, I guess this is just a side effect of constantly running the simulator over and over via Xcode. Things seem to go just fine if I test on the Simulator without Xcode, for a start the folder keeps the same name. NB: I am using NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains to get the documents folder each time. gary

• Using MySQL as data source in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services

  Hi, I have installed the latest .net connector (http://www.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/), I can add MySQL databases as Data Sources, I can even browse through the data from Business Intelligence Studio. The problem is that I CANNOT create a datasource view, or if I do create one without tables, trying to add them after the fact gives me the same error. Specifically it looks like the data source view wizard tries to submit queries against the MySQL database using square brackets/braces, and the query bombs. I get an error message like: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[my_db].[cheatType]' at line 2 So, in summary, has anyone been able to create a data source view using MySQL tables and, if so, can they please show me how this can be done. • What is your strategy to avoid dynamic typing errors in Python (NoneType has not attribute x)?

  Python is one of my favorite languages, but I really have a love/hate relationship with it's dynamicness. Apart from the advantages, it often results in me forgetting to check a type, trying to call an attribute and getting the NoneType (or any other) has no attribute x error. A lot of them are pretty harmless but if not handled correctly they can bring down your entire app/process/etc. Over time I got better predicting where these could pop up and adding explicit type checking, but because I'm only human I miss one occasionally and then some end-user finds it. So I'm interested in your strategy to avoid these. Do you use type-checking decorators? Maybe special object wrappers? Please share...

  I'm interested in T-SQL source code for synchronizing a table (or perhaps a subset of it) with data from another similar table.   I have a simple structure, it's just an array of model's objects. For example, it's a users with books. @books = Book.find(:all, :include = :users) I need to check, does user have a book? I have written a helper method: def has_book?(user_id) @books.select{|b| b.user_id == user_id}.any? end Then, i need to get only books from selected library def in_library(n) @books.select{|b| b.library == n} end I have tried to make custom Array class: class BooksList < Array def initialize(books) self << books end # its my custom methods def has_book?(user_id) self.select{|b| b.user_id == user_id}.any? end def in_library(n) self.select{|b| b.library == n} end end It works, but i have only one problem. I can't access Book's assotiated object (user).   Here's (i think) an interesting question. With AJAX more and more common i feel more and more like doing all form validation server-side. Picture a registration form pre-AJAX. You have all your validation client-side using the common asp validation controls and validation summery...except...checking username availability, check emailadress availability, captcha and what not. So you end up with 2 kinds of validation and so presenting the user with 2 different UI's at 2 different moments. 2 words come to my mind. Ugly. Inconsistent. So here's the question. Why not do all the validation server-side (using AJAX or not). (I'm not using JQuery yet, should i?)

We have difficulties in comparing two float numbers. I am working on a home based, solo developer, project that now has commercial significance and it is time to think about remote source code backup. There is no need for file level check in/out, all I need is once a day or once a week directory level snapshot to remote storage. Automatic encryption would be a bonus to protect my IP. What I have in mind is some sort of GUI interface app that will squirt a source code snapshot off to an Amazon S3 bucket on an automatic schedule. (My development PC runs on MS Windows.)

  I am having some trouble saving the state of my current view. Currenly I have several selectlist calling their own Action method on the controller that returns the Index view with the filtered model based on the values of the selectlist. I have also written a little FileResult action that creates a csv file based on the current model. But I am only covering one selectlist right now as I only save the value of selectList1 into the session and access it with Session["SelectListValue1"] What are the best practices in this situation? Should I redo the entire (each action for each SelectList) part? Should I save each SelectLists value into the session and check if it's null? Or should I just save the Lambda Expression into the session and modify it during every call?

Now we are adding some more segment of market into it and the no of records would be double (2 Millions/day). Currently the average record insertion per second is about 50, maximum is 450 and minimum is 0. To check certain conditions i have used service broker (asynchronous trigger) on my price table. It is running fine at this time(about 35% CPU utilization). Now i am planning to create a in memory dataset of current stock price. we would like to do some simple calculations. I want to know different views of members on this. Please provide your way of dealing with such situation.

• Checking a checkbox node programmatically with jsTree

  In a tree built with jsTree, I have the text within the <a> tag sitting in a variable. I would like to check that node. How can I do so? I am currently finding that node, using jQuery, and altering its class. However, this does not repair the parent node by making the parent undetermined in its class. I tried doing $('.colors').jstree("checkbox_repair"), but that didn't seem to do anything. • Regular Expressions: RegEx for determining valid PHP class property names?

  I am using PHP's magic __set and __get methods to access a private array in a class. I want to make sure the property names requested (i.e. $myObj->FakeProperty) are valid according to PHP property name rules before accessing them. My current RegEx isn't doing the trick; with my test values, _12 always falls through the cracks. I'm not actually sure that my test values even represent a realistic representation of what is and isn't allowed for PHP class property names, but I'm not really too concerned about it, just that I have some sort of rudimentary check in place.
