  • How do I keep existing values from shifting to the right when entering keypresses into a jQuery Mask

    I have a text box I'm using as a timer display "hh:mm:ss" When I select the box and press a number, it inserts the number at the cursor location, but instead of replacing the value at that position, it shifts all existing values over. For example, the timer text box reads "01:00:35" and I replace the first minute position with 1, the timer text box will then read "01:10:03." Anybody know how to force the text box to replace, instead of insert, at the cursor position? I've tried intercepting onKeyPress, doing the replace manually, rewriting the entire timer text, and then returning false. But, that doesn't worked with a jQuery masked input, because my function runs first.

  • encodeURIComponent is really useful?

    Something I still don't understand when perfoming an http-get request to the server is what the advantage is in using JS fucntion encodeURIcomponent to encode each component of the http-get. Doing some tests I saw the server (using PHP) gets the values of the http-get request properly also if I don't use encodeURIcomponent!!! Obviuosly I still need to encode at client level the special character & ? = / : otherwise an http-get value like this "peace&love=virtue" would be considered as new key value pair of the http-get request instead of a one single value. But why does encodeURIcompenent encodes also many other charcaters like 'è' for example wich is translated into %C3%A8 that must be decoded on a PHP server using the utf8_decode function. By using encodeURIcomponent all values of the http-get request are utf8 encoded, therefor when getting them in PHP I have to call each time the utf8_decode function on each $_GET value which is quite annoying. Why can't we just encode only the & ? = / : charcaters??? see also: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2607946/js-encodeuricomponent-result-different-from-the-one-created-by-form It shows that encodeURIComponent does not even encode properly because a simple browser FORM GET encodes charactrs like '€', in different way.   • Accessing an iFrame's dom from a Firefox Extension

    Hi all, I've spent a long time trying different things to get this to work but nothing does and documentation is not helping much. I'm trying to populate a form inside an iframe that I dynamically inject into a page. To inject that iframe I do: myObject.iframe = document.createElement("iframe"); myObject.iframe.setAttribute("src", data.url); myObject.iframe.setAttribute("id","extension-iframe"); myObject.window.document.getElementById('publisher').appendChild(myObject.iframe); myObject.iframe.addEventListener("load", function(){ myObject.populate(data); }, false); which works fine and DOES trigger the populate() method. My problem is getting the document or window objects for that iframe. I've tried all of the following: myObject.iframe.window myObject.iframe.document myObject.iframe.content but these are all undefined. I also tried passing the event object to that iframe's load event listener and then doing: event.originalTarget But that didn't work either.   • Problem with jQuery.ajax with 'delete' method in ie

    I have a page where the user can edit various content using buttons and selects that trigger ajax calls. In particular, one action causes a url to be called remotely, with some data and a 'put' request, which (as i'm using a restful rails backend) triggers my update action. I also have a delete button which calls the same url but with a 'delete' request. The 'update' ajax call works in all browsers but the 'delete' one doesn't work in IE. So, it fails before it even makes the call. I can't work out why - the 'msg' i get back from the error block is blank. Any ideas anyone? Is this a known problem? I've tested it in ie6 and ie8 and it doesn't work in either. thanks - max EDIT - the solution - thanks to Nick Craver for pointing me in the right direction. Rails (and maybe other frameworks?) has a subterfuge for the unsupported put and delete requests: a post request with the parameter "_method" (note the underscore) set to 'put' or 'delete' will be treated as if the actual request type was that string. So, in my case, i made this change - note the 'data' option': jQuery.ajax({ async:true, data: {"_method":"delete"}, dataType:'script', type:'post', url:"/quizzes/"+quizId+"/quiz_questions/"+quizQuestionId, success: function(msg){ alert("success"); initializeQuizQuestions(); setSelectStatus(quizQuestionId, true); jQuery("tr[id*='quiz_question_"+quizQuestionId+"']").removeClass('selected'); }, error: function(msg){ alert("error:" + msg); } }); } Rails will now treat this as if it were a delete request, preserving the REST system. The reason my PUT example worked was just because in this particular case IE was happy to send a PUT request, but it officially does not support them so it's best to do this for PUT requests as well as DELETE requests.

    Hi All, I'm currently working with CKEditor (http://ckeditor.com/). I'm looking for: 1) an exhaustive list of commands available by default via 'execCommand'. 2) a mechanism by which to set styles (as in the same way the FONT and SIZE combo boxes do it). I saw the function called 'setStyle' in the documentation, however it seems to require an exact element. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do so based on the selection -- there is no way to use ID or CLASS, as the selected portions have none. I've posted to the forums but they don't seem to be terribly active as far as replies are concerned. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Best.

Inside the function i call 2 other functions that use getJSON and POST (with json as a return object) to get some data.   • File size and mime-type before upload

    Hi, I've scavenged on every single topic on this forum to try and find an answer before I posted this. Most people say you should simply use SWFUpload, some others mention Activex, and it keeps going. I know this is do-able, as Google does it with gMail when you try to upload a file that's bigger than 25mb, or executable. My question is, how can I determine the file size and mime-type before the file actually hits my server. I primarily thought it was an impossible task, but Google proves me wrong. Could anyone give me a definitive answer on how to accomplish such task? Thanks

  • Checking a checkbox node programmatically with jsTree

    In a tree built with jsTree, I have the text within the <a> tag sitting in a variable. I would like to check that node. How can I do so? I am currently finding that node, using jQuery, and altering its class. However, this does not repair the parent node by making the parent undetermined in its class. I tried doing $('.colors').jstree("checkbox_repair"), but that didn't seem to do anything.     I'm working to build a jQuery AutoSuggest plugin, inspired by Apple's spotlight. Right now the code above hits the server every time you type a key and does not wait for you to essentially finish typing. What's the best way to solve this? A. Kill previous AJAX request? B. Some type of AJAX caching? C. Adding some type of delay to only submit .AJAX() when the person has stopped typing for 300ms or so?

    Ok, there seems to be a problem with the JS Code for Opera browsers, as it only removes the last option tag that is selected within a multiple select tag, can someone please help me. Here is the HTML for this: <select id="actions_list" name="layouts" multiple style="height: 128px; width: 300px;"> <option value="forum">forum</option> <option value="collapse">collapse</option> <option value="[topic]">[topic]</option> <option value="[board]">[board]</option> </select> Ofcourse it's within a form tag, but there's a ton more code involved with this form, but here is the relevant info for this. Here is the JS that should handle this, but only removes the last selected option in Opera, not sure about other browsers, but it really needs to remove all selected options, not just the last selected option... argg var action_list = document.getElementById("actions_list"); var i = action_list.options.length; while(i--) { if (action_list.options[i].selected) { action_list.remove(i); } } What is wrong with this?     I have an application (a widget) where I use $.getScript() on a 5 minute timer, loading a file every five minutes. I then take the contents of the file I just downloaded, and rebuild my page, so that my widget can update. Most of the time, however, the file is unchanged, and firebug displays a 304 Not Modified header every 5 minutes, as my timer executes $.getScript(). I would like to sense when the file is not modified, so that I don't use up user resources, rebuilding the page for no reason. Is it possible to obtain html headers when using $.getScript()?

What I want to do is not to set focus to any element which is not a descendant of an element when tab is pressed from the last control inside the element.     I cant seem to get my JSON file to work when pulling it in from another domain using JQuerys getJSON. I have placed the callback part at the end of the url but still have no joy.
