I installed Windows 2008 server R2 standard from the CD (english), applied updates and now I need to Install the Dutch language interface. It is provided on the DVD, but refuses to install, telling me it is incompatibel with this version of Windows.
Where can I get the right version ?
Quick question:
I have a situation where I need to let multiple people on different PCs log into one server 2008 machine as administrator simultaneously over remote desktop. I have the CALs for it, it's just not set up correctly. When one user tries to log in, it boots the other out. What I need is to present to them a different session, just each as logged in as admin. Sorry for the slightly rambling post, I'm new here. Thanks!
We are trying to use new IIS7 (32bit, Classic Mode) webs in addition to our IIS6 webs with one SQL State Server for ASP.NET Session Handling. Unfortunately the number of transactions per seconds in the State Servers spikes (10 times+) as soon as we add the new IIS7 web to the farm.
Are there any known issues with the described setup?
We are tring to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on Windows 2008 Standard both 64 bit. Have done this before with no problems.
This time we get an error during the installation of client tools:
There was an unexpected failure during
the setup wizard
Link Id 20476, message ID 50000
There are no errors in the event log.
Anybody have any ideas what could be wrong?
Hi, is there a query to list database user access and related source IPs on SQL Server 2000 and 2005? Please note that reporting service is not installed.
Thank you all for help.
I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 cluster on Windows Server 20008 R2. There are 2 nodes node1 and node2 in the cluster. When I start node1 and node2, I get the following statue information from them:
From node1:
C:\>cluster node
Listing status for all available nodes:
Node Node ID Status
-------------- ------- ---------------------
node1 1 Joining
node2 2 Down
C:\>
From node2:
C:\>cluster node
Listing status for all available nodes:
Node Node ID Status
-------------- ------- ---------------------
node1 1 Down
node2 2 Joining
C:\>
I tried to use the cluster manager to investigate, but it seems it just can't connect to the cluster. How to investigate this issue? Thanks.
I have a Java application server (GlassFish, indeed, but the problem is the same for any other application server, I guess), running on port 8080. And I have IIS 7.5 listening on port 80 as by default configuration.
I want to avoid people typing the port because it's unprofessional. So I want that when somebody types
http://myserver
the traffic is directed to IIS. And this is how it already works now. But I also want that when somebody types
http://myserver/java
the traffic is directed to port 8080 and consequently my GlassFish splash screen is displayed. If I have deployed an application on GlassFish under context root app1, typing
http://myserver/java/app1
should access the application.
How can I do this? I have tried with adding some rules with the URL Rewrite utility from IIS7.5 UI, but this shows the port after the rule has rewritten the url, and I want to avoid it.
I have a weird issue here.
I notice about once a week the web server restarts itself. This would be only a minor issue if we were not planning on implementing an IP failover.
I have checked the event logs. I don't see anything that indicates a reason for the restart.
I need some help diagnosing the reason the server restarts. It happened last night at 5:00AM
Last even in the log was 1 hour before the unexpected shutdown.
Here is the Log for the shutdown event. Any help is much appreciated. I know there isn't much to go on yet.

Can a 300GB 15K RPM SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Hard Drive work/be configured if i put it in an extra slot on a server that uses a DELL PERC 6/i Integrated RAID Controller?
I'm more of a developer then an IT guy and I was wondering if there are any existing Microsof tools for monitoring servers and potentially SQL Server.
We have access to MSDN so anything created by Microsoft would be preferred.
How can I list the PRIVILEGES for a user in Windows 2003 Server (SP2) ?
I know I can do something like this:
C:\ whoami /all
This only lists my current user. I need to specify a user and retrieve a list of privileges.
I was wondering if there is an easy way to trigger an e-mail alert on Windows Server 2008 when any logical disk partitions become low on space. I have 2 SQL servers that have come close to running out of disk space because of the DB log files.
Thanks,
Ryan
I'm looking for a way to identify top resource consuming queries in SQL Server 2000.
Is thre a way to do that other than Sql profiler or a third party monitoring tool like Quest?
I have a Windows 2008 R2 domain, and I need to join a Windows Server 2003 machine to the domain. I have also lost any local user passwords to the 2003 machine.
Can I use Offline Domain Join to add the 2003 machine to the 2008 domain?
Hello,
Actually I run RAID 5 (4 x SAS drives) with
Win 2008 Ent(1x host)
Win 2008 End(3x guest)
Sql Server 2005 Std (on guest)
3 x asp.net applications (on guest)
I bought 3 x drives to create additional array (on same controller E200i, I am waiting now for confirmation is it possible to have 3 raids in same controller)
I am planning to have 2 x RAID5 (if it is possible)
first RAID 5 with all vhd files,
systems etc
second RAID 5 all data files and transaction logs
I am looking for opinion how to optimize data layer (seven drives, one controller).
We have some legacy applications which are running on our Win 2000 machines for a long time. There are few Win 2003 machines as well. We are planing to decommission these Win 2k server and move these applications to Windows 2003.
Will there be any issues in running these vb6 applications? Should I worry about anything specific to Win 2000 and Win 2003?
Can I use the compatibility mode if I have any issues?
I have used Puttygen to create a public and a private key, and then is ready to let TortoiseHg on Windows 7 do a clone by going to
ssh:[email protected]/somecode
but there seems to be no where to add the private key to TortoiseHg?
The file is already some where on hard disk as somefile.ppk Does someone know how to add it?
I have VS 2008 Professional Edition. After the installation (which included SQL Server 2008), I decided to install SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Tools (so I could get SQL Server Management Studio on it). So I uninstalled the SQL Express that came with VS 2008, and installed the standalone SQL Server Express 2008 version with advanced tools.
However, When I try to logon onto SQL Server Management Studio using:
.\SQLEXPRESS
as Server name and Windows Authentication as the authentication, I get the following message:
TITLE: Connect to Server

Any suggestions on how to get it to work? I have tried disabling Windows Firewall as well and still no luck.
I am using WIndows Vista and SQL Server 2008 Express SP1 Patch has also been applied recently.
I am developing a flash-based game primarily for desktops, to be hosted on facebook platform (like cityville, sims social etc). The gameplay doesn't involve real-time communication between players unlike an mmorpg. Here each player plays in his own world without any knowledge of other online players. I've written almost 95% of the game logic in actionscript on the client side.
I used Smartfox Server pro on the server side (mostly used for getting data from the DB) and the entire server code is an extension written in java. I'm using json as the protocol for communication.
Although I love smartfox server, as an indie, its tough for me to afford the unlimited users license. Morever its limited just to one machine. So I'm looking for an alternative to smartfox server now.
The reason for choosing smartfox server earlier was to use the server properties supported by it.
Server properties on smartfox server take advantage of the socket connection and are essentially server side objects in java which store some data for the player which he can change frequently during the game. And when he logs out of the game, the extension can write out the final state in the DB (I'm using MySQL). This significantly reduces the number of DB UPDATE/INSERT calls made during the game.
I love the way this works since the data is secure as its on the server side and smartfox server is known to be scalable. (although I'm not sure whether this approach is used widely by gaming industry or not, since this is not an mmorpg, I'm putting all player in the lobby).
So my question is whether any of the free and community supported servers like reddwarf, firebase, BlazeDS etc can provide a similar architecture so that I can use server properties without many code changes?
EDIT : I am not insisting on the exact same feature (thats asking too much!), but atleast a viable messaging system on the server so that I can send actionscript objects from the client using json/binary so that its fast. OR maybe some completely different way to implement what I need here. Thanks in advance.
