• JCP activities at Devoxx 2013!

  Devoxx 2013 has officially started! Looking forward to catching up with Java community member friends--old and new this week. Tuesday (today) the Hackergarten has returned to Devoxx!  There are Java EE 7 tables and Java SE 8 Lambda tables.  Kudos to Andres Almirey for organizing the event and to Arun Gupta and Stuart Marks for leading the activities -- awesome Adopt-a-JSR participation in action! Wednesday there is a JCP 'quickie' session How to Participate in the Future of Java Quickie at 13:35-13:50.  We will also have a chat with the OTN team afterward!  Wednesday evening at 21:00, join us for our BOF session with Martin Verburg and Johan Vos: JCP & Adopt-a-JSR Workshop BOF.

• RTF template migration in BIP

  When you are creating BI template through application the RTF template information will stored in XDO_LOBS table.Column LOB_CODE will store the template short code,ie the link between the template and lob. When you migrate the template through java oracle.apps.xdo.oa.util.XDOLoader make sure the rtf file name and template short code are same.Otherwise the rtf will not get attached. Eg:  Source Instance Template Short Code : XXCUST_TEMPLATE RTF Name: XXCUST_TEMPLATE_1.rtf When you migrate the above details through  XDOLoader the rtf will not get attached to template in destination instance.So make sure RTF Name should be XXCUST_TEMPLATE.

• Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1: #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1

  'Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1' is a series of posts that highlights specific enhancements of the upcoming GlassFish 4.1 release. It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features. This brings the number of Web Profile implementations to no less than seven and the total number of certified platforms on the official Java EE compatibility page to eighteen. • How and when is old-releases.ubuntu.com updated?

  The old-releases.ubuntu.com mirror hosts the repositories for EOL Ubuntu releases. The main page currently lists up to 11.10 (or 12.04.3 if you count point upgrades), but the dists page lists up to 13.04. Why the discrepancy? When will the main page be updated? When will the newest EOL release (13.10) be shifted here? I'd like documentation backing up answers, please. Priority of documentation: Statements by Mark Shuttleworth (on his blog or other public statements) Pages from the Official Ubuntu documentation Ubuntu mailing list discussions, Launchpad bug reports (or questions) or blueprints, etc. IRC discussion logs for official Ubuntu channels Random gossip on the street Community Wiki.

• Mojarra (JSF) 2.1.2 is here

  The Mojarra 2.1.2 release was cut a few days ago. Here are the full Maven coordinates : api, impl. You can also get to the release notes and to the list of bugs fixed in this release. This is scheduled for inclusion into the upcoming GlassFish 3.1.1 release. In fact it's already integrated in the latest promoted build (#8) which also includes woodstox 4.1.1. Weld 1.1.1.Final has already been integrated a few builds ago. The JSF team is now working on JSR 344 (JSF 2.2) for which you can get a status by visiting http://jsf-spec.java.net/ and the associated mailing lists. A first expert draft is now available.

• Removal of the JDBC-ODBC Bridge from Java SE 8 JDK

  Starting with Java SE 8, the JDBC-ODBC Bridge will no longer be included with the JDK. The JDBC-ODBC Bridge has always been considered transitional and a non-supported product[1] that was only provided with select JDK bundles and not included with the JRE. The JDBC-ODBC bridge provides limited support for JDBC 2.0 and does not support more recent versions of the JDBC specification. I would recommend that you use a JDBC driver provided by the vendor of your database or a commercial JDBC Driver instead of the JDBC-ODBC Bridge. • Associating Palettes with View TopComponents

  A side effect of changes in NetBeans Platform 7.1 in the NetBeans window system is that palettes can now be created for view TopComponents. • Autostarting a VirtualBox VM headless in Windows

Add a .bat file  to your Startup programs atC:\Users\MYUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Containing the following call:"C:\Program Files\HSTART\hstart64.exe" /NOCONSOLE /SILENT "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\vboxheadless.exe --startvm MYVM" If that VM has Secure Global Desktop and it has a published app that points to your PC, well... ;)

• Now you can design ADF applications that look like Fusion Apps

  One possible failure point in ADF applications (and I’ve seen happen) is getting Web designers to build the UI without any knowledge of what ADF does.  The resulting design may look pretty but might be virtually impossible to implement using ADF. To help address this Oracle have released a set of Visio templates which help guide you in “Fusion”/ADF look and feel.  I’ve been lucky enough to have some of our usability teams mock up these templates for some ADF projects I’ve been working on and they are a great help in conceptualising the final applications.
