The only way it worked was to not use the methods, declare the commands for the connection and use different variables for the connection and the statement. I thought that if i close the Connecion and the Statement I could use the variable once again since is a method but I'm not able to. Is there any way to solve this using my methods for the JDBC connection?

  In my program I use KVO manually to observe changes to values of object properties. I receive an EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal at the following line of code inside a custom setter: [self willChangeValueForKey:@"mykey"]; The weird thing is that this happens when a factory method calls the custom setter and there should not be any observers around. I do not know how to debug this situation. Update: The way to list all registered observers is observationInfo. It turned out that there was indeed an object listed that points to an invalid address. However, I have no idea at all how it got there. Update 2: Apparently, the same object and method callback can be registered several times for a given object - resulting in identical entries in the observed object's observationInfo. When removing the registration only one of these entries is removed. This behavior is a little counter-intuitive (and it certainly is a bug in my program to add multiple entries at all), but this does not explain how spurious observers can mysteriously show up in freshly allocated objects (unless there is some caching/reuse going on that I am unaware of). Modified question: How can I figure out WHERE and WHEN an object got registered as an observer? Update 3: Specific sample code. ContentObj is a class that has a dictionary as a property named mykey. They all work by adding/removing themselves as observers. Obviously, anything that results in multiple registrations is a bug and could sit somewhere hidden in these methods. My question targets strategies on how to debug this kind of situation. Alternatively, please feel free to provide an alternative strategy for implementing this kind of notification/observer pattern.

• Handling Denormalized Schema with Eclipselink

  Hello All I have a denormalized table containing employee information. The fields are employee id, name and department name. The primary key is a composite one consisting of all three fields. An employee can belong to multiple departments. I want to read/write the objects in the table using the Eclipselink Dynamic Persistence API (which is infact a wrapper on top of JPA descriptors etc.). Example Data: 1 e1 dep1 2 e1 dep2 3 e2 dep1 4 e2 dep3 5 e3 dep1 5 e3 dep2 5 e3 dep3 A normal ReadAllQuery (select query) on the table returns a DynamicEntity corresponding to each row in the table. However I want to club all entities based on the emp id and return all the departments he belongs to as a list. I can merge the entities after retrieving them but if I can use some Eclipselink feature out of the box then it would be better. One way to do the read is the following: I create two dynamic types corresponding to employee: Having id,name as the primary key Having id, department as the primary key, I create a OneToManyMapping from the first type to the second one. Then when I query the first type it does return the departments to which employee belongs as a list of DynamicEntity of the second type. This satisfies the read scenario. Is there a better way of doing this? Is this inherently supported by Eclipselink or JPA? I cannot get the same dynamic type configuration working for the write scenario. This is because when I write the changes using the writeObject method of UnitOfWork, it generates insert queries which enter the following entries in the table id name department 102 emp_102 102 st 102 dep_102 102 dep_102 102 dep_102 instead of: id name department 102 emp_102 st 102 emp_102 dep_102 102 emp_102 dep_102 102 emp_102 dep_102 Is there any way I can get write to work with this schema using eclipselink? I want to avoid doing the heavy lifting of merging the rows for such a denormalized schema or generating each row before doing a write. Is there no clean way of doing this using Eclipselink or JPA?   On my site, a user gets email notifications when someone comments on their profile, or comments on their blog etc...I have made a email settings page that has checkboxes to allow the user to decide to receive emails or not.   I am trying to implement a simple autocomplete script using jQuery UI and CodeIgniter 2 but my model keeps telling me there is an undefined variable so I dont know if my setup is right. • can I put my sqlite connection and cursor in a function?

  I was thinking I'd try to make my sqlite db connection a function instead of copy/pasting the ~6 lines needed to connect and execute a query all over the place. I'd like to make it versatile so I can use the same function for create/select/insert/etc... Below is what I have tried. The 'INSERT' and 'CREATE TABLE' queries are working, but if I do a 'SELECT' query, how can I work with the values it fetches outside of the function? Usually I'd like to print the values it fetches and also do other things with them. When I do it like below I get an error Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Users\steini\Desktop\py\database\test3.py", line 15, in <module> for row in connection('testdb45.db', "select * from users"): ProgrammingError: Cannot operate on a closed database. So I guess the connection needs to be open so I can get the values from the cursor, but I need to close it so the file isn't always locked. • Netbeans hard freezes Windows XP, how to debug

  I get this problem about once to twice a day while editing in netbeans. I will be editing some code in Netbeans and I get a hard freeze requiring a full reboot. There hasn't been any correlation with an actual event that I can tell. Sometimes it's when I focus, sometimes while typing, sometimes while clicking on another window. I need to figure out how to track down what's causing the problem, as no error is generated when this happens. No error in Netbeans logs or Windows logs. I've also tried letting it sit to see if it recovers, and it's definitely stuck. I haven't had any problems with other apps running JRE, so I'm thinking it's Netbeans itself. I can't submit a bug report because I can't get a log or any reproduce-able explanation of the problem.

• icons in windows 7 taskbar moving by themselves

  I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Few days ago I pinned another one application to taskbar and moved it to the left side. But it moved to the right by itself! I tried to return it to the left side but it went to the right again. The same thing happens now with another application (I've uninstalled the application from the first paragraph - not because of a bug, I just don't like it). It's really annoying. I want it on the left side! How to lock it in? I don't know why but it have (2) in the taskbar shortcut's name: 'Mindjet MindManager 8 (2)'

  Hi guys, I wrote a function that can calculate the distance between two addresses using the Google Maps API. The addresses are obtained from the database. What I want to do is calculate the distance using the function I wrote and sort the places according to the distance. Just like "Locate Store Near You" feature in online stores. I'm going to specify what I want to do with an example: So, lets say we have 10 addresses in database. And we have a variable $currentlocation. And I have a function called calcdist(), so that I can calculate the distances between 10 addresses and $currentlocation, and sort them. It doesn't sort the numbers. Another challenge: How can I do this in an efficient way? Imagine there are infinite numbers of addresses; how can I sort these addresses and page them?

  Trying to put together a simple login authentication. Been at this for quite sometime, and I can't find where I'm going wrong. Pretty new to Codeigniter and OOP PHP. I know there are authentication libraries out there, but I'm not interested in using those. (Because I did a lot of query about Question entity, by date, by tag, by category, by asker, etc. It is obviously not a good solution to add count operation in each query. My first attempt is to implement a @PostLoad listener, so every time Question entity is loaded, I do count. However, EntityManager cannot be injected in listener. So this way does not work. Any hint?

  I am not sure but I can't seem to turn on my webcam to record videos which I would broad cast somewhere later on. I have a HP G62 Laptop, and the cam turns on when I use programs like Skype and other Video Calling clients, other wise I can't turn it own, as I don't seem to know how. Laptop: HP G62 Notebook PC, AMD Atholon II P230 Dual-Core, Windows 7: Home Premium Can some one tell me how do I turn on my webcam and record videos? Or is there some sort of a software? I tend to read stuff I wrote in Word, so if there is a program I need it to be in the tray dock and not to bug me, while I am moving between different documents/web pages.

• SQL developer here -- Nesting with select * finicky in Oracle 10g?

  I am writing a simple diagnostic query I will execute in my Oracle 10g scratchpad. I am trying to do this as part of a step to build the query. In the SQL Scratchpad for Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager Console, this statement runs fine. SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ' If I try to wrap that up in Select * from () tb2 I get an error, "ORA-00918: Column Ambiguously Defined". I didn't think that could ever happen with this kind of statement so I am a bit confused. select * from (SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ') tb2 You should always be able to select * from the result set of another select * statement using this structure as far as I'm aware... right? Is Oracle/10g/the scratchpad trying to force me to accept a certain syntactic structure to prevent excessive nesting? Is this a bug in scratchpad or something about how oracle works?

• Visual Studio 2012 window border leaks onto other screen

  I have several 30" monitors and as a result, I use the Win+Left/Right to tile windows to the left and right side of each screen. I've noticed an annoying feature of Visual Studio 2012 is that it seems to "leak" onto the next screen. I can see a line on the adjacent screen as if the edge of the window is slightly over the border. Anyone else see this? Is it a bug? This is on Windows 7 64 bit. I've never seen this with any other application.

• How do I efficiently locate key-value pairs in a multi-dimensional PHP array?

  I have an array in PHP as a result of the following query to a Wordpress database: SELECT * FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id = :id I am returned a multidimensional array that looks like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [meta_id] => 380 [post_id] => 72 [meta_key] => _edit_last [meta_value] => 1 ) ... etc. What is the best way to find a particular key-value pair in this array? For instance, how would I located the row where [meta_key] = event_name so that I can extract that same row's [meta_value] value into a PHP variable? I realize I could turn this into many individual MySQL queries. Does anyone have an opinion of the efficiency of doing 10 SQL queries in a row rather than searching the array 10 times? I would think since the array is in memory, that will be the fastest method to find the values I need. Alternatively, is there a better way to query the database from the beginning so that my result set is formatted in a way that is easier to search?

• Why doesn't PHP's oci_connect return false?

  I have a situation in which we have two production databases that synchronize with one other. Server One is considered the primary. Sometimes due to maintenance or a disaster Server Two will become primary. In some of our code that means we have to manually go in and edit the server name for database connections. I find this annoying, so the last thing I wrote I put the server information for both and set up a loop. If oci_connect failed on the Server One 3 times it would move on to Server Two. If Server Two failed 3 times it would notify the user a connection couldn't be made. This has worked fine most times we've had the situation of switching the servers. Yesterday, for example, it worked fine. Today it didn't. It just sat and spun endlessly. No error in the PHP error log. No failure to move on from. No error output to the screen. Nothing for 5 minutes. So then I had to manually edit the stupid config file. I asked what could possibly be different and I was told "yesterday the database was down, but not the server. today the server is down." Okay...? But I don't see a distinction. I would expect oci_connect to return false if it can't establish any sort of communication with the server. I'd expect it to timeout and error. Not just pass it on when it receives an error code from the server. What if there's a network problem, for example? Is this a bug in oci_connect or is there a possibility that something in our PHP configuration gives oci_connect a crazily long timeout? If it is a sort of "bug" is there some way I can check to see if the server is up first? Like a ping? (Of course when I did a ping through the command prompt I got a response from Server One and then was told, "it's back now" although I am skeptical about the timing on that.) • Complex sorting on MySQL database

  I'm facing the following situation. We've got an CMS with an entity with translations. These translations are stored in a different table with a one-to-many relationship. For example newsarticles and newsarticle_translations. The amount of available languages is dynamically determined by the same CMS. When entering a new newsarticle the editor is required to enter at least one translation, which one of the available languages he chooses is up to him. In the newsarticle overview in our CMS we would like to show a column with the (translated) article title, but since none of the languages are mandatory (one of them is mandatory but i don't know which one) i don't really know how to construct my mysql query to select a title for each newsarticle, regardless of the entered language. And to make it all a little harder, our manager asked for the possibilty to also be able to sort on title, so fetching the translations in a separate query is ruled out as far as i know. Anyone has an idea on how to solve this in the most efficient way? • Selecting Date Range on a PHP form and displaying results from MySQL database

  This may be something simple but I cant understand why this wouldn't work.. I have a php form where you can select a date range from drop downs. I've given the field names day, month year, and day1, month1, year1. When clicking submit it takes you to a second php form. • Do you leave Windows Automatic Updates enabled on your production IIS server?

  If you were running a 24/7 website on Windows Server 2003 (IIS6). Would you leave the Windows automatic update feature enabled or would you turn it off? When enabled, you always get the latest security patches and bug fixes automatically as soon as they're available, which is the most secure choice. However, the machine will sometimes get automatically rebooted to apply the updates leading to a couple of minutes of downtime in the middle of the night. Also, I've seen rare occasions where the machine does not restart correctly resulting in further downtime. If auto updates are off, when do you apply the patches? I guess you have to use a load balancer with multiple web servers and rotate them out of the production site, apply patches manually, and put them back in. This can be logistically inconvenient when the load balancer is managed by a hosting company. You will also have machines in production that don't always have the latest security patches and you have to routinely spend time deciding which patches to apply and when.

• win7-64 sp1: Rename folder (including zip file) error popup

  With the install of Windows 7 x64 Service Pack 1 (SP1) I get a windows explorer popup on any folder rename including .zip files. Could not find this item They are referring to the old name. What a bug. If I click "Try Again' the popup goes away, folder is renamed. Lots of posts on the net about this but no fixes. I tried a registry patch (that I shouldn't have) and it did nothing to fix. This started happening after the install of sp1.
