• str_replace() and strpos() for arrays?

  I'm working with an array of data that I've changed the names of some array keys, but I want the data to stay the same basically... Basically I want to be able to keep the data that's in the array stored in the DB, but I want to update the array key names associated with it. Previously the array would have looked like this: $var_opts['services'] = array('foo-1', 'foo-2', 'foo-3', 'foo-4'); Now the array keys are no longer prefixed with "foo", but rather with "bar" instead. So how can I update the array variable to get rid of the "foos" and replace with "bars" instead? Like so: $var_opts['services'] = array('bar-1', 'bar-2', 'bar-3', 'bar-4'); I'm already using if(isset($var_opts['services']['foo-1'])) { unset($var_opts['services']['foo-1']); } to get rid of the foos... I just need to figure out how to replace each foo with a bar. I thought I would use str_replace on the whole array, but to my dismay it only works on strings (go figure, heh) and not arrays.

In the real life case I am dealing with, there might be 50+ objects and a dozen binaries to build, with only small changes between the object list each time, so it would be nice not to have to list all the objects each time.

  i have a list of users, with minions, something like this: User52: minion10 minion12 User32: minion13 minion11 i've been keeping in an array where the "location" is the id, like this: Users: [52]User minions: [10]minion [12]minion [32]User minions: [13]minion [11]minion so i can access them easily like this: user[UserID].minions[MinionID] (ex: user[32].minions[11]) but when i print it or send it by json i get something like this: {,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,minion} but should i keep using like this or should i change to something like this: User = function(){ this.minions = ...; this.getMinion = function(value){ for(var m in this.minions){ if(this.minions[m].id == value){ return this.minions[m]; break; } } } } and get it like this: user.getMinion(MinionID); Question: i get better performance using a "short" array but using loops every time i need a minion, or using "long" arrays, but no need for loop and getting values directly from the id "name"?

• Java graphic objects as in flashgames

  How is it possible (with the standard Java2D engine) to use small sprites like graphic objects? For those who don't know what I mean, in all those Flash-games like on Facebook they put small sprites on the screen which react to mouse-over and clicks. I tried to do the same in Java but can't find a good method. Swing components always spread over the whole bitmap, but I only want to get a reaction from the object when the mouse is over a pixel that's not transparent. So basically checking every time if the object below the mouse contains a non-transparent pixel (which i believe could be pretty intense in a gameloop or repaint loop). I have no idea how to implement such a thing efficiently.

• Finding and marking the largest of three values in a two dimensional array

  I am working on a display screen for our office, and I can't seem to think of a good way to find the largest numerical value in a set of data in a two dimensional array. I've looked at using max() and also asort() but they don't seem to cope with a two dimensional array. I'm returning my data through our mysql class, so the rows are returned in a two dimensional array. Array( [0] => Array( [am] => 12, [sales] => 981), [1] => Array( [am] => 43, [sales] => 1012), [2] => Array( [am] => 17, [sales] => 876) ) I need to output a class when foreaching the data in my table for the AM with the highest sales value. Short of comparing them all in if statements. I have tried to get max() on the array, but it returns an array, as it's look within the dimension. When pointing it at a specific dimension it returns the key not the value. I figured that I could asort() the array and pop the top value off, store it in a variable and then compare against that in my foreach() loop, but that seems to have trouble sorting across two dimensions. Lastly, I figured that I could foreach() the values, comparing them against the previous one each time, untill I found the largest. This approach however means storing every value, luckily only three, but then comparing against them all again. Surely there must be a simpler way to achieve this, short of converting it into a single dimension array, then doing an asort() on that?

But here's the odd part: the last NSLog shows these numbers: 40, 10, 0, 8, 3, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91 that is 40, 10, 0, 8, 3, and so on. It was not supposed to be a zero in there, it was supposed to be a 2.. Do you have any idea at why this is happening or a way to fix it? Thank you.

• Moving two objects proportionally

  I'm trying to move two objects away from each other at a proportional distance, but on different scales. I'm not quite sure how to do this. Object A can go from position 0.1 to 1. Object B has no limits. If object B is decreasing, then Object A should be decreasing at rate R. Likewise, if Object B is increasing, then Object A increases at rate R. How can I tie these two Object positions together so that in an update loop, they automatically update their positions? I tried using: ObjA.Pos += 0.001f * ObjB.VelocityY; //0.001f is the rate This works but there's an error each time it runs. ObjA starts off at its max position 1 but then the next time it will stop at 0.97, 0.94, 0.91 etc.. This is due to the 0.001f rate I put in. Is there a way to control the rate, yet not end up with the rounding error?

  Cake handles pagination of a model with a simple $this-paginate(), but what should I use if I want to paginate a array of values? I have a set of arrays like this: $a = array ( 0 => array ( 'value' => 'America', ), 1 => array ( 'value' => 'England', ), 2 => array ( 'value' => 'Australia', ), ) $b = array ( 0 => array ( 'value' => 'America', ), 1 => array ( 'value' => 'England', ), 2 => array ( 'value' => 'Canada', ), ) I need to get the 'new' subarrays that array b brings to the table. ie, I need to return array ( 'value' => 'Canada', ) I thought I could first merge $a+$b and then compare the result to $a. $merge = array_merge($a,$b); $result = array_diff($merge,$a); But somehow that does not work. It returns array() How come? And thanks!

If the Red's run out, it should begin with the first one again. Example: let's say there are only two Red's: Blue1 Blue2 Blue3 Red1 Blue4 Blue5 Blue6 Red2 Blue7 Blue8 Blue9 Red1 ... ... If the Blue's run out, the Red's should append until they run out too. Example: let's say there are 5 Blue's, and 5 Red's: Blue1 Blue2 Blue3 Red1 Blue4 Blue5 Red2 Red3 Red4 Red5 Note: the arrays come from mysql-fetches. • PHP - My array returns NULL values when placed in a function, but works fine outside of the function

  Okay, let me see if I can explain this. I am making a newspaper WordPress theme. The theme pulls posts from categories. The front page shows multiple categories, organized as "newsboxes". Each post should show up only ONCE on the front page, even if said post is in two or more categories. To prevent posts from duplicating on the front page, I've created an array that keeps track of the individual post IDs. When a post FIRST shows up on the front page, its ID gets added to the array. Before looping through the posts for each category, the code first checks the array to see which posts have ALREADY been displayed. OK, so now remember how I said earlier that the front page shows multiple categories organized as "newsboxes"? Well, these newsboxes are called onto the front page using PHP includes. I have 6 newsboxes appearing on the front page, and the code to call them is EXACTLY the same. I didn't want to repeat the same code 6 times, so I put all of the inclusion code into a function. The function works, but the only problem is that it screws up the duplicate posts code I mentioned earlier. The posts all repeat. Running a var_dump on the $do_not_duplicate variable returns an array with null indices. Everything works PERFECTLY if I don't put the code inside a function, but once I do put them in a function it's like the arrays aren't even connecting with the posts. Here is the code with the arrays.   I understand that in order to sum array elements in Ruby one can use the inject method, i.e. array = [1,2,3,4,5]; puts array.inject(0, &:+) But how do I sum the properties of objects within an object array e.g. There's an array of objects and each object has a property "cash" for example. So I want to sum their cash balances into one total. Something like... array.cash.inject(0, &:+) (but this doesn't work) I realise I could probably make a new array composed only of the property cash and sum this, but I'm looking for a cleaner method if possible!

This SP does the following: 1) cursor loops through a series of "buildings" 2) cursor loops through a week, Sunday-Saturday 3) has a huge set of IF blocks that are responsible for counting how many Objects of what Types are present in a given building Essentially what you'll see in this code block is that, if there are 5 objects of type #2, it will increment @Type_2_Objects_5 by 1. IF @Number_Type_1_Objects = 0 BEGIN SET @Type_1_Objects_0 = @Type_1_Objects_0 + 1 END IF @Number_Type_1_Objects = 1 BEGIN SET @Type_1_Objects_1 = @Type_1_Objects_1 + 1 END IF @Number_Type_1_Objects = 2 BEGIN SET @Type_1_Objects_2 = @Type_1_Objects_2 + 1 END IF @Number_Type_1_Objects = 3 BEGIN SET @Type_1_Objects_3 = @Type_1_Objects_3 + 1 END [... Requested in comments: The columns are simply Number_Type_1_Objects, Number_Type_2_Objects, Number_Type_3_Objects, Number_Type_4_Objects, Number_Type_5_Objects, and CurrentDateTime. Each row in the table represents 5 minutes. The expected output is to figure out what percentage of time a given quantity of objects is present throughout each day. Sunday - Object Type 1 0 objects - 69 rows, 5:45, 34.85% 1 object - 85 rows, 7:05, 42.93% 2 objects - 44 rows, 3:40, 22.22% On Sunday, there were 0 objects of type 1 for 34.85% of the day. There was 1 object for 42.93% of the day, and 2 objects for 22.22% of the day. Repeat for each object type.

The first step in the process is to create the SQL you want to use for the interface. It can be any valid static SQL or use host variables for the WHERE clause (we call that filtered). Once you are happy with the SQL (and it performs acceptably) you can incorporate that SQL into a Info-Explorer Zone. You can use any of the explorer zone types but I typically recommend F1-DE-SINGLE as it supports a single SQL statement with multiple filters (up to 15) as well as hidden filters (up to 5). Hidden filters are typically not displayed in the UI for criteria (remember explorer zones can be used on the user Interface as well) but for web services they can be used as normal filters (this means you can use up to 20 filters all up). Once you are happy with the zone, you now need to define it as a Business Service. We have a generic service called FWLZDEXP which allows a explorer zone to be defined as a Business Service. If you open any Business Service based upon FWLZDEXP you will see some examples. The schema is standard and pretty self explanatory in terms of the structure. The schema pattern looks like this: Zone element - maps to the ZONE_CD element and the default value is the zone name you just created. This links the business service to the zone. Filter elements - You name the filters as you like but the mapField is set to Fx_VALUE where x is the filter number corresponding to the filter element in the zone definition. Hidden filter elements - You name the filters as you like but the mapField is set to Hx_VALUE where x is the filter number corresponding to the hidden filter element in the zone definition. results group - this holds the elements of the result set. Each element in your result set has a tagname and is linked to the COL_VALUE mapField and the row element is lists the SEQNO of the column. This corresponds to the column number in the results set in the zone. An example schema is shown below for the F1-USGRACML zone, which returns the access modes for a user group and application service filters. In the example, the userGroup and applicationService elements are the filters and the rows would contain a list of accessModeDescr. This is just a simple example to illustrate the point. There are lots of examples in the product that you can investigate. One recommendation, to save time, is that you copy the schema from one of the examples to save you typing it from scratch. You can simply modify the tags and other elements to suit your needs. Once the Business Service is defined it can simply be defined as a Web Service by registering an XAI Inbound Service using the Business Service definition as a basis. You now have a Web Service based upon a Info Explorer Zone. This is one of my favorite components as it allows interfaces to be simplified. This will be my last blog entry for this year.   Ok, not really sure how to do this. Now I need to figure out which one's changed, comparing from the old to the new. And also, need to update the database with all of the new positions where new lid = the old lid, and the new mid = the old mid from each array. I'm sure I'll have to use array_key or array_key_intersect somehow, but not sure exactly how...??? Also, I don't think an UPDATE would be useful in a foreach loop, perhaps there's a way to do a CASE statement in the UPDATE query? Also, Am I going about this the right way? OR should I do it another way instead of using a muli-dimensional array for this.

• Can't Remove Logical Drive/Array from HP P400

  This is my first post here. Thank you in advance for any assistance with this matter. I'm trying to remove a logical drive (logical drive 2) and an array (array "B") from my Smart Array P400. The host is a DL580 G5 running 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga). I am unable to remove the array using either hpacucli or cpqacuxe. I believe it is because of "OS Status: LOCKED". The file system that lives on this array has been unmounted. I do not want to reboot the host. Is there some way to "release" this logical drive so I can remove the array? Note that I do not need to preserve the data on logical drive 2. I intend to physically remove the drives from the machine and replace them with larger drives. I'm using the cciss kernel module that ships with Red Hat 5.7. • String Sharing/Reference issue with objects in Delphi

  My application builds many objects in memory based on filenames (among other string based information). I was hoping to optimise memory usage by storing the path and filename separately, and then sharing the path between objects in the same path. I wasn't trying to look at using a string pool or anything, basically my objects are sorted so if I have 10 objects with the same path I want objects 2-10 to have their path "pointed" at object 1's path (eg object[2].Path=object[1].Path); I have a problem though, I don't believe that my objects are in fact sharing a reference to the same string after I think I am telling them to (by the object[2].Path=object[1].Path assignment). When I do an experiment with a string list and set all the values to point to the first value in the list I can see the "memory conservation" in action, but when I use objects I see absolutely no change at all, admittedly I am only using task manager (private working set) to watch for memory use changes. Here's a contrived example, I hope this makes sense. I have an object: TfileObject=class(Tobject) FpathPart: string; FfilePart: string; end; Now I create 1,000,000 instances of the object, using a new string for each one: var x: integer; MyFilePath: string; fo: TfileObject; begin for x := 1 to 1000000 do begin // create a new string for every iteration of the loop MyFilePath:=ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName); fo:=TfileObject.Create; fo.FpathPart:=MyFilePath; FobjectList.Add(fo); end; end; Run this up and task manager says I am using 68MB of memory or something. (Note that if I allocated MyFilePath outside of the loop then I do save memory because of 1 instance of the string, but this is a contrived example and not actually how it would happen in the app). Now I want to "optimise" my memory usage by making all objects share the same instance of the path string, since it's the same value: var x: integer; begin for x:=1 to FobjectList.Count-1 do begin TfileObject(FobjectList[x]).FpathPart:=TfileObject(FobjectList[0]).FpathPart; end; end; Task Manager shows absouletly no change. However if I do something similar with a TstringList: var x: integer; begin for x := 1 to 1000000 do begin FstringList.Add(ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName)); end; end; Task Manager says 60MB memory use. Now optimise with: var x: integer; begin for x := 1 to FstringList.Count - 1 do FstringList[x]:=FstringList[0]; end; Task Manager shows the drop in memory usage that I would expect, now 10MB. So I seem to be able to share strings in a string list, but not in objects. I am obviously missing something conceptually, in code or both! I hope this makes sense, I can really see the ability to conserve memory using this technique as I have a lot of objects all with lots of string information, that data is sorted in many different ways and I would like to be able to iterate over this data once it is loaded into memory and free some of that memory back up again by sharing strings in this way.
