  • Core Data migration problem: "Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model

    - by John Gallagher
The Background A Cocoa Non Document Core Data project with two Managed Object Models. Model 1 stays the same. Model 2 has changed, so I want to migrate the store. I've created a new version by Design Data Model Add Model Version in Xcode. The difference between versions is a single relationship that's been changed from to a one to many. I've made my changes to the model, then saved. I've made a new Mapping Model that has the old model as a source and new model as a destination. I've ensured all Mapping Models and Data Models and are being compiled and all are copied to the Resource folder of my app bundle. I've switched on migrations by passing in a dictionary with the NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption key as [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] when adding the Persistent Store. Rather than merging all models in the bundle, I've specified the two models I want to use (model 1 and the new version of model 2) and merged them using modelByMergingModels: The Problem No matter what I do to migrate, I get the error message: "Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model." What I've Tried I clean after every single build. I've tried various combinations of having only the model I'm migrating to in Resources, being compiled, or both. Since the error message implies it can't find the source model for my migration, I've tried having every version of the model in both the Resources folder and being compiled. I've made sure I'm not making a really basic error by switching back to the original version of my data model. The app runs fine. I've deleted the Mapping Model and the new version of the model, cleaned, then recreated both. I've tried making a different change in the new model - deleting an entity instead. I'm at my wits end. I can't help but think I've made a huge mistake somewhere that I'm not seeing. Any ideas?

  • How to trigger an action from a NSTableCellView in view based NSTableView when using bindings

    - by user1075752
I'm facing a problem with a view-based NSTableView running on 10.8 (target is 10.7, but I think this is not relevant). I'm using an NSTableView, and I get content values for my custom NSTableCellView through bindings. I use the obejctValue of the NSTableCellView to get my data. I added a button to my cell, and I'd like it to trigger some action when clicked. So far I have only been able to trigger an action within the custom NSTableCellView's subclass. I can get the row that was clicked like this, using the chain: NSButton *myButton = (NSButton*)sender; NSTableView *myView = (NSTableView*)myButton.superview.superview.superview; NSInteger rowClicked = [myView rowForView:myButton.superview]; From there I don't know how to reach my App Delegate or controller where the action is defined. As I am using cocoa bindings, I do not have a delegate on the NSTableView that I could use to trigger my action. Do you have any idea how I could talked back to controller ? Many thanks in advance!

  • UINavigationController inside tabbar loading a child root view

    - by Doug
Hi guys, Firstly i'll preface by saying that i am a complete Cocoa touch/objective c noob (.Net dev having a dabble) I have searched on Google as well as here but cannot seem to find an easy solution. I have a UItabbarcontroller view with a UINavigationController inside its first tab I have the root view for this UINavigationController stored in a seperate class and NIB as i am trying to seperate the data viewing from the data loading (i'm going to reuse the table list in multiple places in my database) and simply pass the root view its data using a loading method and have it take it from there. What i want to happen: App loads and loads the first view of the tab bar (A UINavigationController) The UINavigationController inside the first view loads a root view (a UIViewController with a table view) and sets its title The UINavigationController loads the data from a web service and parses it The UINavigationController sends the data to a loading method inside the UIViewController Am i thinking about this completely wrongly? What currently happens: the first tab bar loads with an empty uinavigationcontroller (no table view) the data methods fire and get the webservice data this child view gets sent its data using the loading method the tableview delegate events fail to fire inside the child view telling it to load the data into the table I just can't seem how to load my second view inside the root view of the navigation controller and then send it my data?

  • How can we leverage NSAppearance?

    - by Brad Allred
I was reading the Cocoa documentation and stumbled across some new features in the 10.9 API. From the docs I gather that the NSAppearance class and a related protocol NSAppearanceCustomization Appear to be a means of customizing the appearance of NSView and its descendants. An NSAppearance object represents a file that specifies a standard or custom appearance that applies to a subset of UI elements in an app. An app can contain multiple appearance files and—because NSAppearance conforms to NSCoding—you can use Interface Builder to assign UI elements to an appearance. Typically, you customize a window by using Xcode to create an appearance file that contains the views you want to customize and the custom art that should be applied to them. Xcode transforms the file’s art content into a runtime format that AppKit can draw when the specified views are displayed. Well that all sounds neat and promising, but nowhere in the documentation can I find what an appearance file is or how to make one. Google searches are coming up empty other than for the thin documentation I have already read. I do see that UIKit has a similar sounding UIAppearance class, but from what I can tell this is not a straight port of the UIKit class. Does anybody know how to make this magic "appearance file" and what exactly we can do with it?

  • Help with stock ticker style scrolling using Core Animation

    - by Glen Harding
Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on the best way to implement stock ticker style right-to-left scrolling of CALayers in Core Animation on OSX. I'm pretty new to Cocoa and don't know the best way to implement this. I have a continuous stream of news items and stock details that I turn into CALayers (made up of 1 image and a CATextLayer) and I want to animate the CALayers from right to left of my custom view. The news and stock information is constantly updating so I would like to add 1 item at a time to the view, scroll it right to left until the right-most point of the CALayer is showing, then add another CALayer to the view and start scrolling that as well. I would like to do this dynamic updating instead of taking a big snapshot of all my data, turning it into a big horizontal CALayer and scrolling that. I'm looking for guidance on how to achieve this sort of effect - do I manually animate each new CALayer along a path in the view? Or should I be using CAScrollLayer to achieve this effect? Many thanks Glen.

  • Problem getting weeks in a month with NSCalendar...

    - by AngrySpade
I am creating a calendar control of sorts... One thing I need to know is how many weeks are there in a Month... So NSCalendar rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate Seems to be exactly what I need... Except I am noticing something that seems off and I can't quite figure out why this is happening... The following code... NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; [dateComponents setDay: 1]; for (int x=1; x<=12; x++) { [dateComponents setMonth: x]; NSDate *date = [calendar dateFromComponents:dateComponents]; NSLog(@"Date: %@", date); NSRange range = [calendar rangeOfUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit inUnit: NSMonthCalendarUnit forDate:date]; NSLog(@"%d Weeks in Month %d", range.length, [dateComponents month]); } Is returning the following debug messages... 2010-03-14 13:08:10.350 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-01-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.351 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 1 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-02-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.352 Scrap[4256:207] 4 Weeks in Month 2 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-03-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.353 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 3 2010-03-14 13:08:10.354 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-04-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.355 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 4 2010-03-14 13:08:10.356 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-05-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.357 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 5 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-06-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.358 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 6 2010-03-14 13:08:10.359 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-07-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.360 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 7 2010-03-14 13:08:10.361 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-08-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 8 2010-03-14 13:08:10.364 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-09-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.365 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 9 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-10-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.366 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 10 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 -0400 2010-03-14 13:08:10.367 Scrap[4256:207] 5 Weeks in Month 11 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] Date: 2010-12-01 00:00:00 -0500 2010-03-14 13:08:10.369 Scrap[4256:207] 52 Weeks in Month 12 I cant quite figure out why I get 52 weeks in month 12. Any clues? Edit on 3/20/2010: Seeing as how I couldnt use rangeOfUnit:inUnit:forDate to calculate the number of weeks in a month. I decided to figure out a different way of calculating the same value. I figured I should do this in a non-Gregorian localized way, so I attempted to start with getting the number of days in a week, but I got the result of 28 days in a week. So I started writing more code to figure out why... I wanted to make sure that the type of NSCalendar that I was playing with was in fact what I was supposed to be getting... And that led me to finding some differences... NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDate *now = [[NSDate alloc] init]; NSDateComponents *currentMonth = [currentCalendar components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; NSDate *currentMonthDate = [currentCalendar dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; NSRange daysInWeekRange = [currentCalendar rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"CurrentCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); currentMonth = [calendarWithIdentifier components: NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate: now]; currentMonthDate = [calendarWithIdentifier dateFromComponents: currentMonth]; daysInWeekRange = [calendarWithIdentifier rangeOfUnit: NSDayCalendarUnit inUnit: NSWeekCalendarUnit forDate: currentMonthDate]; NSLog(@"GregorianCalendar: Length:%u Location:%u", daysInWeekRange.length, daysInWeekRange.location); And that got me the following log results... 2010-03-20 21:02:27.245 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.246 Scrap[52189:207] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:02:27.248 Scrap[52189:207] CurrentCalendar: Length:28 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:02:27.249 Scrap[52189:207] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 Taking direction from @CarlNorum's experience, I compiled the code snippet as a 10.6 Cocoa application, and I got the following... 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.636 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] Calendar created with identifier Identifier: gregorian 2010-03-20 21:05:35.637 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] CurrentCalendar: Length:6 Location:1 2010-03-20 21:05:35.638 ScrapCocoa[52238:a0f] GregorianCalendar: Length:7 Location:1 I saw hope in that creating a NSCalendar Instance explicitly as a Gregorian Calendar would lead to better results in my original problem... NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[[NSDateComponents alloc] init] autorelease]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; • Running and managing NSTimer in different NSThread/NSRunLoop

    - by mips
I'm writing a Cocoa application, with a GUI designed in Interface Builder. I need to schedule background activity (at regular intervals) without blocking the UI, so I run it in a separate thread, like this: - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(schedule) withObject:nil]; } - (void) schedule { NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSRunLoop* runLoop = [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop]; timer = [[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:FEED_UPDATE_INTERVAL target:activityObj selector:@selector(run:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES] retain]; [runLoop run]; [pool release]; } I retain the timer, so I can easily invalidate and reschedule. Problem: I must also fire the run: method in response to GUI events, so it is synchronous (i.e. a "perform activity" button). Like this: [timer fire]; I could do this with performSelectorInBackground too, and of course it doesn't block the UI. But this synchronous firings run in another runloop! So I have no guarantee that they won't overlap. How can I queue all of my firings on the same runloop?

  • Integrate Google Maps API into an iPhone app

    - by Corey Floyd
Update: iPhone SDk 3.0 now addresses the question here, however the NDA prevents any in depth discussion. Log in to the iPhone Dev Center if you need more info. Ok, I have to admit I'm a little lost here. I am fairly comfortable with Cocoa, but am having trouble picking up the bit of javascript needed to solve this problem. I am trying to send a request to Google for a reverse geo code. I have looked over the Google documentation I have viewed here: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/index.html http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/geocoding/ Even after a rough reading, I am missing a basic concept: How do I talk to google? In some examples, they show a url being sent to google (which seems easy enough), but in others they show javascript. It seems for reverse geocoding, the request might be be harder than sending the url with some parameters (but I hope I am wrong). Can someone point me to the correct way to make a request? (In objective-C, so I can wrap my head around it)

  • Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

    - by Alb
I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins. The plugins validate and everything else looks similar to windows configuration where it works, but when I launch i only get the following two lines in the console: 2010-03-16 13:29:32.742 java[758:10b] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Enabled 2010-03-16 13:29:32.744 java[758:10b] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Setting timeout for SWT to 0.100000 and then the program appears to just hang indefinitely. There is nothing written to the .log file so I'm not sure what error there is. • moviePlayBackDidFinish: is not called in application.

    - by srikanth rongali
In my application I have used these notifications when playing a video. But, The problem is the control of the program is not entering in to the first two methods(moviePreLoadDidFinish and moviePlayBackDidFinish). It is entering into last method. So, after the video is played and I pressed Done button in the video, I cannot touch any object in screen. I mean I used play button for video to play in a view. After the video played the play button is deactivated. - (void) moviePreloadDidFinish:(NSNotification*)notification { } // Notification called when the movie finished playing. - (void) moviePlayBackDidFinish:(NSNotification*)notification { } // Notification called when the movie scaling mode has changed. - (void) movieScalingModeDidChange:(NSNotification*)notification { } I could not get where I was wrong ? Thank You.

  • Opening a View with a Table without a NavigationController

    - by Ken
Hiya, I'm pretty new to developing with Cocoa Touch/XCode and I came across a problem. I'm making a sort of RSS reader for a newssite and I have 5 views of tables navigated with 5 tabs in a TabBarController. If someone selects a newsitem I want another view to open showing the complete newsitem. My problem is that it won't work. This is my code: - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection(NSInteger)section{ return [[[self rssParser]rssItems]count]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{ UITableViewCell * cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"rssItemCell"]; if(nil == cell){ cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:@"rssItemCell"]autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = [[[[self rssParser]rssItems]objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]title]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [[[[self rssParser]rssItems]objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]description]; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [[self appDelegate] setCurrentlySelectedBlogItem:[[[self rssParser]rssItems]objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]; [self.appDelegate loadNewsDetails]; } And it calls this method in my delegate: -(void)loadNewsDetails{ [[self rootController]pushViewController:detailController animated:YES]; } Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. BTW I do not want to use a NavigationController, just the tabbar I'm using. Thanks in advance, Ken

  • SCM for Xcode?

    - by Gregor
I am developing an application for the Mac as a small team (me + another person) effort. We are located in different cities, and have started to see the need for solid source control management. None of us have any experience with this, and both of us are relatively new to Cocoa/Obj-C/Xcode (but do have C knowledge). Does anyone have any recommendations as to which SCM system to choose? I understand that a lot of people are using Subversion, which is also supported in Xcode 3.1. Does anyone have experience with using Subversion through Xcode? Or is it a better option to chose a stand alone GUI alternative, such as Versions? Grateful for any input on this. Gregor Tomasevic, Sweden Update/personal experiences: Since this post, we have tried Versions and Cornerstone (both of which are SVN GUI-clients), as well as Xcodes built-in support for SVN. We were not particularly pleased with Versions, which seemed to have some problems with committing unversioned files/build files. The built-in SVN support in Xcode works quite well, although it probably has limitations that we have still not run into. Cornerstone is both simple to use and powerful, and does not seem to suffer from the problems we encountered with Versions. So far, we have just tried committing, updating repo, checking out latest/previous versions of our files and worked some with file comparison. It might be a whole different ball game once you start working extensively with branching, an area which we have been told both these GUI clients might have some weaknesses in. For what it's worth (and with only days of evaluation) Cornerstone seems to be a somewhat better alternative, although for simpler SCM, Xcode works well too. Thanks for all the comments.

  • iPhone UIScrollView - How to animate scrolling with steady contents?

    - by timbos
    Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to prevent the contents of a uiscrollview from moving unsteadily when scrolling manually by setting the content offset. When scrolling by touch the text remains clear and steady. I would like to recreate this by animating with the animated option set to false. I'm using a timer to scroll at a given interval. The text is being drawn to a view in the contents, but it vibrates and it becomes more difficult to read clearly when animating at a greater speed. The speed varies and the scrolling must respond to changes in speed quickly. Here's some code - - (void) scrollIncrAmt:(float) amt { _currentSpeedIncr = amt; NSArray* arr = [SharedTickerInfo sharedTickerInfo].sDataArray; DataObj* tdObj = [arr objectAtIndex:_row]; if ( ![tdObj isDirLeft] ) { amt = -amt; } float scrollTo = self.scrollView.contentOffset.x + amt; [scrollView setContentOffset:CGPointMake(scrollTo, 0.0f) animated:NO]; }

  • Is there a better way of launching same app from GUI or Command line

    - by markhunte
Hi All, I worked out a way of running my Cocoa (GUI) app. From either the normal double clicking it, Or from the CLI. I realised that when an app launches from a double click (GUI), it returns an argument count (argc) of 0. But when launched from the CLI it will have an argc of 1. So long as I do not put any arguments myself. Which means I can use if.. else.. to determine how the app was launched. This works fine for my app as I do not need to put arguments. But I wondered if there was a better way of doing it. Here is an example of the code in the main.m int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { //This determins if the app is launched from the command line or app itself is opened. if (argc == 1) { //app was run from CLI // Create a object MyClass *mMyClass; mMyClass = [[MyClass alloc] init]; // Read the Buffer [mMyClass readBuffer]; // Write out file on disk [mMyClass createFile]; [mMyClass doMoreStuff]; [mMyClass release]; mMyClass = nil; return 0; } else { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; //app was doubled click, (Opened) return NSApplicationMain(argc, (const char **) argv); [pool drain]; // */ // return NSApplicationMain(argc, (const char **) argv); }} Many Thanks. • Problem getting weeks in a month...

So I modified that original code NSCalendar *currentCalendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSLog(@"Calendar with 'currentCalendar' Identifier: %@", [currentCalendar calendarIdentifier]); NSCalendar *calendarWithIdentifier = [[[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSGregorianCalendar] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Calendar created with identifier Identifier: %@", [calendarWithIdentifier calendarIdentifier]); NSDateComponents *dateComponents = [[[NSDateComponents alloc] init] autorelease]; [dateComponents setYear: 2010]; • Debugging Key-Value-Observing overflow.

    - by Paperflyer
I wrote an audio player. Recently I started refactored some of the communication flow to make it fully MVC-compliant. Now it crashes, which in itself is not surprising. However, it crashes after a few seconds inside the Cocoa key-value-observing routines with a HUGE stack trace of recursive calls to NSKeyValueNotifyObserver. Obviously, it is recursively observing a value and thus overflowing the NSArray that holds pending notifications. According to the stack trace, the program loops from observeValueForKeyPath to setMyValue and back. Here is the according code: - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { if ([keyPath isEqual:@"myValue"] && object == myModel && [self myValue] != [myModel myValue]) { [self setMyValue:[myModel myValue]; } } and - (void)setMyValue:(float)value { myValue = value; [myModel setMyValue:value]; } myModel changes myValue every 0.05 seconds and if I log the calls to these two functions, they get called only every 0.05 seconds just as they should be, so this is working properly. The stack trace looks like this: -[MyDocument observeValueForKeyPath:ofObject:change:context:] NSKeyValueNotifyObserver NSKeyValueDidChange -[NSObject(NSKeyValueObserverNotification) didChangeValueForKey:] -[MyDocument setMyValue:] _NSSetFloatValueAndNotify …repeated some ~8k times until crash Do you have any idea why I could still be spamming the KVO queue?

  • Mac, PDFKit, PDF/X

    - by PhillipeTKern
I'm in need of generating and viewing PDF/X-1a. After spending quite some time I came to the conclusion that the only way (hopefully someone will prove me wrong) to achieve this is to use Cocoa. More context: I need to generate PDF/X-1a, that is, all the fonts embeded, spot colors, overprint, ... preferably from Python. But the only libraries which support such things are iText and perhaps and Apache FOP. The first one could be used with Jython, which is ok but not optimal. But then, I simply could not find any viable viewer. Poppler, xpdf, Sumatra, mupdf, ghostscirpt - all of them - just cannot handle large CMYK pdfs, lots of text, ... I really would like to use open sourced libraries but unfortuntatelly the only option I see right now is to buy Mac as I saw one could print (Save-as) to built-in PDF printer under PDF/X conformance and I expect Preview to be comparable, if not better, to Acrobat. But I'm not sure if is it even possible to programmatically access the MacOS libraries responsible for generating PDF? I'm asking because I heard not everything from MacOS is available via public API... (And what Python goes, I thought I could use PyObjC..?) Any others ideas are of course very welcomed!

  • Setting UIImage dimensions on UITableViewCell image

    - by bbrown
I've got a standard UITableViewCell where I'm using the text and image properties to display a favicon.ico and a label. For the most part, this works really well since UIImage supports the ICO format. However, some sites (like Amazon.com say) have favicon.icos that make use of the ICO format's ability to store multiple sizes in the same file. Amazon stores four different sizes, all the way up to 48x48. This results in most images being 16x16 except for a few that come in at 32x32 or 48x48 and make everything look terrible. I have searched here, the official forum, the documentation, and elsewhere without success. I have tried everything that I could think of to constrain the image size. The only thing that worked was an undocumented method, which I'm not about to use. This is my first app and my first experience with Cocoa (came from C#). In case I wasn't clear in what I'm looking for, ideally the advice would center around setting the dimensions of the UIImage so that the 48x48 version would scale down to 16x16 or a method to tell UIImage to use the 16x16 version present in the ICO file. I don't necessarily need code: just a suggestion of an approach would do me fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I asked in the official forum as well because I've sunk more than a day into this already. If a solution is posted there, I'll put it here as well.)

  • Can NSCollectionView autoresize the width of its subviews to display one column

    - by littlecharva
Hi, I have an NSCollectionView that contains a collection of CustomViews. Initially it tiled the subviews into columns and rows like a grid. I then set the Columns property in IB to 1, so now it just displays them one after another in rows. However, even though my CustomView is 400px wide, it's set to autoresize, the NSCollectionView is 400px wide, and it's set to 1 column, the subviews are drawn about 80px wide. I know I can get around this by calling: CGFloat width = [collectionView bounds].size.width; NSSize size = NSMakeSize(width, 85); [collectionView setMinItemSize:size]; [collectionView setMaxItemSize:size]; But putting this code in the awakeFromNib method of my WindowController only sets the correct width when the program launches. When I resize the window (and the NSCollectionView autoresizes as I've specified), the CustomViews stay at their initially set width. I'm happy to take care of resizing the subviews myself if need be, but I'm quite new to Cocoa and can't seem to find any articles explaining how to do such a thing. Can someone point me in the right direction? Anthony

  • Snow Leopard & LSUIElement -> application not activating properly, window not "active" despite being

    - by Frank R.
Hi, I'm running into a few problem with a background application that uses LSUIElement=1 to hide its dock item, menu bar and prevent it from appearing in the Command-Tab application switcher. It seems to be a Snow Leopard only problem. The application places an NSStatusItem in the menu bar and pops up a menu when clicked on. Selecting "Preferences..." should bring up an NSWindow with the preferences. The first thing that doesn't seem to work is that the Window does not get ordered in at the front, but appears behind all other application windows. I tried to fix this by calling [[NSApplication sharedApplication] activateIgnoringOtherApps: YES] but that didn't work. After a while I figured out that the menu is blocking the message to the run loop from being sent, so I wrote another method on the MainController and sent the message with a delay: [self performSelector:@selector(setFront:) withObject: [preferencesController window] afterDelay:1.0]; -(void)setFront: (id) theWindow { [[NSApplication sharedApplication]activateIgnoringOtherApps:YES]; [theWindow orderFrontRegardless]; [theWindow makeKeyWindow]; [[NSApplication sharedApplication] activateIgnoringOtherApps:YES]; } Note the send-every-possible-message-to-make-it-do-what-it-should-be-doing-approach. This works, kind-of, the window is brought to the front on top of all other windows from all apps, BUT most of the time it isn't active, meaning it's title bar is greyed out. Clicking on the title bar won't make the window active either. Clicking INSIDE of the window will make it active!? This all didn't seem to be a problem in Leopard; just calling activateIgnoringOtherApps and making the window key seemed to work just fine. In Snow Leopard there is a new API designed to replace LSUIElement that is supposed to emulate its behaviour: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/releasenotes/cocoa/appkit.html I've played around with that, but it's SL-only and I haven't been able to get LSUIElement being set. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • NSBorderlessWindow not responding to CMD-W/CMD-M

    - by Sean
I have an NSBorderlessWindow subclass of NSWindow with a transparent and non-opaque background (so it's non-rectangular in appearance). I've added my own buttons to function as the close and minimize buttons when I click them, but for some reason the window will not respond to CMD-W or CMD-M like a normal one does. I have my NSWindow subclass set to return YES to canBecomeKeyWindow and canBecomeMainWindow. My NIB still has all the standard menu items in it that are there when you create a new project - including the "Minimize" item in the Window menu with the default shortcut CMD-M defined. It's hooked up to send performMiniaturize: to the first responder. However it is not enabled when the app is run, so it seems like it must be asking the window if it can minimize and the window says no or something. (I'm still very new to OSX/Cocoa.) What am I missing? Also, and maybe this is related, my borderless window has a shadow enabled - but unlike a normal titled window, when I make my window the active/front window by clicking on it, the shadow doesn't change. Normally an OSX focused window has a slightly larger/darker shadow to make it stand out more but mine never changes the shadow. It's like I'm missing something to make the OS treat this window as a real/normal/main window or something and as a result I lose the shadow change and functioning CMD-W/CMD-M.

  • No test coverage files generated for Unit Test bundle in Xcode

What I've Tried As articles like this one suggest, I've adjusted the build settings to: “Generate Test Coverage Files” checked “Instrument Program Flow” checked “-lgcov” added to “Other Linker Flags” I've also set the Run Script section of the test target to have the following: # Run the unit tests in this test bundle. "${SYSTEM_DEVELOPER_DIR}/Tools/RunUnitTests" # Run gcov on the framework getting tested if [ "${CONFIGURATION}" = 'Coverage' ]; then FRAMEWORK_NAME=LapsusInterpretationEngine FRAMEWORK_OBJ_DIR=${OBJROOT}/${FRAMEWORK_NAME}.build/${CONFIGURATION}/EngineTests.build/Objects-normal/${NATIVE_ARCH} mkdir -p coverage pushd coverage find ${OBJROOT} -name *.gcda -exec gcov -o ${FRAMEWORK_OBJ_DIR} {} \; popd fi Since my Framework name is LapsusInterpretationEngine but my target is named EngineTests, I put this directly into the FRAMEWORK_OBJ_DIR but this didn't seem to help. I've tried cleaning before building. I've made sure all the above build settings apply to both the Unit Test Target and the Application Target. What I Get No .gcda or .gcno files anywhere in the build directory I'm using. I point CoverStory to the Objects-normal directory in my builds folder and it complains that there's nothing there for it to read. I must be doing something really obvious wrong. Anyone any ideas? I have tried the "EngineTests.build" directory being ${FRAMEWORK_NAME} and this gives the same results.

  • How to display a subview loaded from a separate NIB file

    - by Marcus Netter
I'm developing a Cocoa desktop application that uses a source list in the style of iTunes: different elements in the source list cause the main content area to display different views. The content area is entirely filled with a (vertical) NSSplitView; on the left is an NSOutlineView source list. When the user selects an item on the left, the relevant view appears on the right side of the splitter. I can make it work well enough by putting everything in one NIB file and putting a borderless NSTabView to the right of the splitter; to switch views, I just have to change the selected tab. But putting all the views in one NIB is bad practice, so I'm trying to move each of the subviews into their own NIB files. I have a pretty good idea of most of this process — I've created an NSViewController subclass for each of these views (EntityDetailViewController, GroupDetailViewController, and so on), set the File's Owner of each new NIB to the relevant controller class, set the view connection in each NIB, and reworked the bindings. What I don't know is how to actually change which subview is being shown on screen. I've tried using the default generic NSView on the right side and sending it addSubview: messages; I've tried connecting to it as the first subview and calling NSView *newSubview = /* get subview from the new subview controller */ [[subview superview] replaceSubview:subview with:newSubview]; [self setSubview:newSubview]; But everything just leaves the space blank. How do I display a subview loaded from a separate NIB?

  • Graceful termination of NSApplication with Core Data and Grand Central Dispatch (GCD)

    - by Vincent Mac
I have an Cocoa Application (Mac OS X SDK 10.7) that is performing some processes via Grand Central Dispatch (GCD). These processes are manipulating some Core Data NSManagedObjects (non-document-based) in a manner that I believe is thread safe (creating a new managedObjectContext for use in this thread). The problem I have is when the user tries to quit the application while the dispatch queue is still running. The NSApplication delegate is being called before actually quitting. - (NSApplicationTerminateReply)applicationShouldTerminate:(NSApplication *)sender I get an error "Could not merge changes." Which is somewhat expected since there are still operations being performed through the different managedObjectContext. I am then presented with the NSAlert from the template that is generated with a core data application. In the Threading Programming Guide there is a section called "Be Aware of Thread Behaviors at Quit Time" which alludes to using replyToApplicationShouldTerminate: method. I'm having a little trouble implementing this. What I would like is for my application to complete processing the queued items and then terminate without presenting an error message to the user. It would also be helpful to update the view or use a sheet to let the user know that the app is performing some action and will terminate when the action is complete. Where and how would I implement this behavior?

  • NSTextView's adjustScroll method

    - by Mike
I'm trying to implement typewriter scrolling in my Cocoa text editor, keeping the insertion point centered vertically in its scrollview. Toward this end, I have subclassed NSClipView to provide a scrollToPointWithoutConstraint method, which scrolls the document to a specified point without calling constrainScrollPoint. This is necessary because for short documents the insertion point can't be centered unless we scroll beyond the document's bounds. This seems reasonably straightforward so far and does what I want. The problem comes in when I try to scroll using the scroll bars. If I'm scrolled to the end of the document, such that part of the scroll view contains an area outside the document's bounds, trying to scroll up by a small increment causes the scroll view to jump, immediately clamping to the document's actual bounds. I gather that I might need to subclass NSTextView and override the adjustScroll method; this is where my actual question begins. The proposedVisibleRect that is passed to adjustScroll already has its dimensions adjusted so that they lie within the document's actual bounds. Is there a way that I can change the value of proposedVisibleRect before adjustScroll is called? Alternatively, am I going about this entirely wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point.
