  • Validating collection elements in WPF

    I would like to know how people are going about validating collections in WPF. Lets say for example that I have an observable collection of ViewModels that I am binding to the items source of a grid, and the user can add new rows to the grid and needs to fill them. First of all I need to validate on each row to ensure that required fields of each ViewModel are filled in. This is fine and simple to do for each row. However, the second level of validation is on the collection as a whole. For example i want to ensure that no two rows of the collection have the same identifier, or that no two rows have the same name. Im basically checking for duplicate properties within different rows. I also have more complex conditions where I must ensure that there is at least one item within the collection that has some property set. How do I get a validation rule that would allow me to check these rules, validating on the whole collection rather than the individual items. I also want to print any validation error above the datagrid so that the user can fix the problem and the message will update or disappear as the user fixes each different rule. Anyone have any experience of the proper way to do this? Thanks Chris

  • Why is this ajax call being made even though it shouldn't be

    i have this validation script im working on but cant see why im having an issue. You can see that i have a check = false / true, check before it runs the ajax call. The only properties I get are "PageHeight", "Instance", and "UndoManagerInstance". Therefore, I can not Validate the rules for the binding on the TextBox. Does anyone have any idea why I wouldn't be getting the correct properties? Is there another way to force validaton on controls in WPF? I haven't been able to find anyone else who has had this problem. Update: The TextBoxes I am trying to validate are within a DataTemplate. I found that if I copy one of the TextBoxes and place it directly in the Window, I am able to get the data. Using Woodstock, I saw that the data source for the TextBoxes in the template is "ParentTemplate", but it's "Local" for the TextBox outside of the template. So, the question now is, how can I get the DependencyProperties for controls inside a DataTemplate?

    So I've managed to setup bind9 and a mail server, but it seems there is something wrong. I don't quite under stand this error: The configuration of your mail servers and your DNS are not ok! The report of the test is: mail.domain.com. - mail.domain.com - 208.xxx.xxx.xxx - lisa.domain.com Spam recognition software and RFC821 4.3 (also RFC2821 4.3.1) state that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting MUST have an A record pointing back to the same server. Can anyone explain this to me in a bit more detail, and maybe point me in a direction to solve this?

    When a Validator (i.e. StringValidator, NumberValidator, etc) dispatches an invalid event due to validation failure, the errorString property of the source control (i.e. TextInput) is set to a non-empty string which creates a red border around the control and shows an toolTip (errorTip) ONLY when the mouse hovers over the control. Question: Can you force immediate display of the toolTip (errorTip) rather than waiting for the user to hover over the control? If so, how?

  • Using depends with the jQuery Validation plugin

    I've got a form with a bunch of textboxes that are disabled by default, then enabled by use of a checkbox next to each one. When enabled, the values in these textboxes are required to be a valid number, but when disabled they don't need a value (obviously). I'm using the jQuery Validation plugin to do this validation, but it doesn't seem to be doing what I expect. When I click the checkbox and disable the textbox, I still get the invalid field error despite the depends clause I've added to the rules (see code below). Oddly, what actually happens is that the error message shows for a split second then goes away.     Hey, I'm trying to add a validation rule to multiple textboxes dynamically. Here's the js: //validate form. $("#SubmitForm").validate(); $("input[id*=Hours]").rules("add", { number: true, messages: { number: "Please enter a valid Hours" } }); This applies the rule to the very first textbox on the page with "Hours" in the id but then it doesn't apply it to any of the other ones.     Hi I can't get dataform and it's controls to catch exceptions when validating. Fir instance, I have: <PasswordBox Password="{Binding Password,Mode=TwoWay,NotifyOnValidationError=true,ValidatesOnExceptions=true}" /> All required properties are set to true. In the setter of my Password property I throw a ValidationException upon failed validation, but the data form doesn't catch it, it just causes the application to crash as if it were a normal exception. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

  • Maintaining ViewModel fields with default model binding and failed validation

    I have an ASP.Net MVC Controller with a 'MapColumns' action along with a corresponding ViewModel and View. I'm using the defaultModelBinder to bind a number of drop down lists to a Dictionary in the ViewModel. The view model also contains an IList field for both source and destination columns which are used to render the view. My question is what to do when validation fails on the Post call to the MapColumns action? Currently the MapColumns view is returned with the ViewModel resulting from the default binding. This contains the Dictionary values but not the two lists used to render the page. What is the best way to re-provide these to the view? I can set them explicitly after failed validation, but if obtaining these values (via GetSourceColumns() and GetDestinationColumns() in the example) carries any overhead this doesn't seem ideal. What I am looking for is a way to retain these lists when they are not bound to the model from the view.     Hey Guys, Lets say the model for books is: created_at user_id (int) author_id (int) genre_id (int) pages (int) I want to let people change the "created_at" field upon record creation. I also want to make sure that a record can't have the exact same created_at, user_id, and author_id as any other record (i.e. each needs its own date).     I'm using MVC2 with VS2010 I have a view that has two partial views in it: "Login" and "Register" both partial views contains the Email address field i use the following in both partial views: <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.EmailAddress ) %><br /><%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.EmailAddress) %> if i use both partial views on one page, it ends up having duplicate id's so validation happens across both views (even thopugh they are in seperate forms) how can i go about eliminating this
