    Describe please a typical lifecycle of a Hibernate object (that maps to a db table) in a web app. Suppose, you create a new instance of an object and persist in the db. But during the app lifetime you'll be working on a detached object and finally you need to update it in the database, for example on exit. How does it look like with hibernate and spring? p.s. Can transactions and sessions live between servlet transitions? So that we opened 1 session and use it in all servlets without a need to reopen it?

  • When open-sourcing a live Rails app, is it dangerous to leave the session key secret in source contr

    I've got a Rails app that's been running live for some time, and I'm planning to open source it in the near future. I'm wondering how dangerous it is to leave the session key store secret in source control while the app is live. If it's dangerous, how do people usually handle this problem? I'd guess that it's easiest to just move the string to a text file that's ignored by the SCM, and read it in later. Just for clarity, I'm talking about this: # Your secret key for verifying cookie session data integrity. # If you change this key, all old sessions will become invalid! # Make sure the secret is at least 30 characters and all random, # no regular words or you'll be exposed to dictionary attacks. ActionController::Base.session = { :key => '_application_session', :secret => '(long, unique string)' } And while we're on the subject, is there anything else in a default Rails app that should be protected when open sourcing a live app?

    I'm trying to get the hang of using custom session handlers to store session data in a MySQL database. However, I keep getting the following warning: mysql_close(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource Here's the code I'm using, which I got from here: function _open(){ global $_sess_db; $_sess_db = mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "******"); if ($_sess_db) { return mysql_select_db('style', $_sess_db); } return false; } function _close(){ global $_sess_db; return mysql_close($_sess_db); //error happens here } The full text of the error message ultimately points to the final "return mysql_close($_sess_db);" line. I can confirm that the mysql_connect info does in fact work, and I do have the rest of the session handler functions defined as well. And in case it helps, I get these errors immediately upon page load, without actually calling any of the session handler functions, and without having any current sessions open.

  • What's the safest way to remove data from mysql? (PHP/Mysql)

    I want to allow users as well as me(the admin) to delete data in mysql. I used to have remove.php that would get $_GETs from whatever that needed to be deleted such as... remove.php?action=post&posting_id=2. But I learned that anyone can simply abuse it and delete all my data. So what's the safest way for users and me to delete information without getting all crazy and hard? I am only a beginner :) I'm not sure if I can use POSTs because there is no forms and the data isn't changing. Is sessions good? Or would there be too many with postings, user information, comments, etc. Ex: James wants to delete one of his postings(it is posting_id=5). So he clicks the remove link and that takes him to remove.php?action=post&posting_id=5.

  • Restful client on Codeigniter issue

    This is weird. I don't know what is problem on my website. My website works on local server but not on live server. Login page works on first signin but after logout then re-login again message says: "invalid username and password" since it works on first attempt. I found out when I debugging that http://xxxxx.com/api/authentication/sign not found. It display 404 page not found. Sometimes you can login and sometimes not. In my local it works. I contact the web server admin and I ask what is the status of the session on the server and How does it execute it's web requests? (Sockets, file_get_contents, curl?). They said that No problems reproduced with Server Sessions and PHP Curl works fine. I know it's weird but can somebody here can figure it out what is the problem behind of it.

    Hey I'm trying to connect to my Wcf service which is configured using castles wcf facility. When I go to the service in a browser i get: Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled. Which lists a load of instructions which i cant do because the configuration isnt in the web.config. when I try to connect using VS/add service reference i get: The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://s.ibzstar.com/userservices.svc'. Content Type application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8 was not supported by service http://s.ibzstar.com/userservices.svc. The client and service bindings may be mismatched. The remote server returned an error: (415) Cannot process the message because the content type 'application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8' was not the expected type 'text/xml; charset=utf-8'.. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. Anyone know what I need to do to get this working?     I have modified my treeview to look like an Org chart using the example shown in the Code Project website (Author Josh Smith). I need connecting lines in the treeview to make it look exact to org chart. I found references pointing to the below site http://wpfblog.info/2008/05/26/turning-a-treeview-into-an-org-chart-with-connectors/ But I am not able to view the content. Probably the webpage has been moved. Can anybody help?

    I have a project that I am working on in VS2005. I have added a WebBrowser control. I have also tried including the css in a element in the header section, but it still only affects the elements that are there when the page is created. So my question is, does anyone have any idea on why the css is not being applied to elements that are created after the page is loaded? I have also tried no applying the css until after all of my elements are added, but the results don't change.

    I'm with a really weird bug with asp.net mvc2 (rtm) and ValidationMessageFor. The example below throws a System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException on Response.Write(Html.ValidationMessageFor(n = n[index].Name)); Any ideas why thats happening? I'm accessing the same dictionary twice before, but it only throws the error on ValidationMessageFor, any thoughts?   • MVC 2 View Layout CSS Control Layout

    I'm new to a lot of what I'm trying to do with the development of a new MVC2 web application so this is a beginner question. I need to understand my options for control and content layout on a web page. I’m using MVC2 so I’m using Controllers, Views, ViewModels, and View Templates. What I need to spin up on…fast…is control the granular layout of controls and content on any particular view. Below I’ve pasted two examples of auto generated templates that illustrate my challenge. I see that layout is controlled by CSS in my Site.css document. In the first example I get a sequential flow of DisplayLabel and DisplayField. I prefer the adjacent layout of DisplayLabel on the same line as DisplayField produced from example 2. However, example 2 is too simple because the formatting is applied to the Label and the Field. I think the correct way to tackle this learning curve is Microsoft Expression but I don’t have personal bandwidth at the moment to tackle Expression. Can anyone point me to a resource that will expose me to lots of examples for CSS formatting? I have lots of syntax questions. For instance, I believe is referencing the Site.css but I can’t find a "display-label" section in Site.css.   • WPF - Only want one expander open at a time in grouped Listbox

    I have a UserControl with a templated grouped listbox with expanders and only want one expander open at any time. I have browsed through the site but haven't found anything except binding the IsExpanded to IsSelected which isn't quite what I want. I am trying to put some code in the Expanded event that would loop through Expanders and close all the ones that aren't the expander passed in the Expanded event. I can't seem to figure out how to get at them. I've tried ListBox.Items.Groups but didn't see how to get at them and tried ListBox.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem (or Index) but nothing came back. What exactly I want to do is in the datagridtemplatecolumn for others I want to display the usernames that are not in CurrentUsername, but they have the same program Id as the CurrentUsername. Please do let me know if there is another way that i can make this work, instead of using a dependencyproperty, althouht for testing I did put a textblock below datagrid, and it works perfectly fine.. Help!
