• "Metadata information not found" while using EF4's POCO Template?

  I just installed the POCO Template for EF4. I have a single entity in my model, AnnouncementText, and the T4 files seem to be properly generated. Attempting to access this new entity is throwing the following error when I access the auto-generated property MyObjectContext.AnnouncementTexts: InvalidOperationException: Mapping and metadata information could not be found for EntityType 'MyNamespace.AnnouncementText'. The properties on the AnnouncementText POCO seem to match up with the columns in the database, and I haven't changed any of the auto-generated code. The stack trace is: at System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext.GetTypeUsage(Type entityCLRType) at System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext.GetEntitySetForNameAndType(String entitySetName, Type entityCLRType, String exceptionParameterName) at System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext.CreateObjectSet[TEntity](String entitySetName) at MyNamespace.MyObjectContext.get_AnnouncementTexts() in C:\<snip>\MyObjectContext.Context.cs:line 65 at MyNamespace.Class1.Main() in C:\<snip>\Class1.cs:line 14 If I delete the .tt files from the solution and enable code generation on the model, I am able to access the property without issue. • Windows Vista/Win7 Privilege Problem: SeDebugPrivilege & OpenProcess

  Everything I've been able to find about escalating to the appropriate privileges for my needs has agreed with my current methods, but the problem exists. I'm hoping maybe someone has some Windows Vista/Win7 internals experience that might shine some light where there is only darkness. I'm sure this will get long, but please bare with me. Context: I'm working on an app that requires accessing the memory of other processes on the current machine. This, obviously, requires administrator rights. It also requires SeDebugPrivilege, which I believe myself to be acquiring correctly, although I question if more privileges aren't necessary and thus the cause of my problems. Code has so far worked successfully on all versions of Windows XP, and on my test Vista32 and Win7x64 environments. Process: Program will Always be run with Administrator Rights. This can be assumed throughout this post. Escalating the current process's Access Token to include SeDebugPrivilege rights. Using EnumProcesses to create a list of current PIDs on the system Opening a handle using OpenProcess with PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS access rights Using ReadProcessMemory to read the memory of the other process. Problem: Everything has been working fine during development and my personal testing (including Windows XP 32 & 64, Windows Vista 32, and Windows 7 x64). However, during a test deployment onto both Windows Vista(32-bit) and Windows 7(64-bit) machines of a colleague, there seems to be a privilege/rights problem with OpenProcess failing with a generic Access Denied error. This occurs both when running as a limited User (as would be expected) and also when run explicitly as Administrator (Right-click Run as Administrator and when run from an Administrator level command prompt). However, this problem has been unreproducible for myself in my test environment. I have witnessed the problem first hand, so I trust that the problem exists. The only difference that I can discern between the actual environment and my test environment is that the actual error is occurring when using a Domain Administrator account at the UAC prompt, whereas my tests (which work with no errors) use a local administrator account at the UAC prompt. It appears that although the credentials being used allow UAC to 'run as administrator', the process is still not obtaining the correct rights to be able to OpenProcess on another process. I am not familiar enough with the internals of Vista/Win7 to know what this might be, and I am hoping someone has an idea of what could be the cause. The Kicker: The person who has reported this error, and who's environment can regularly reproduce this bug, has a small application named along the lines of RunWithDebugEnabled which is a small bootstrap program which appears to escalate its own privileges and then launch the executable passed to it (thus inheriting the escalated privileges). When run with this program, using the same Domain Administrator credentials at UAC prompt, the program works correctly and is able to successfully call OpenProcess and operates as intended. So this is definitely a problem with acquiring the correct privileges, and it is known that the Domain Administrator account is an administrator account that should be able to access the correct rights. (Obviously obtaining this source code would be great, but I wouldn't be here if that were possible). Notes: As noted, the errors reported by the failed OpenProcess attempts are Access Denied. According to MSDN documentation of OpenProcess: If the caller has enabled the SeDebugPrivilege privilege, the requested access is granted regardless of the contents of the security descriptor. • Removing offline/defunct files in SQL server 2008

  How to remove traces of files marked as OFFLINE or DEFUNCT in Microsoft SQL server 2008? I have been playing around with a setup where I create a database with 3 file-groups which are: Primary, FileGroupData and FileGroupIndex. The clustered index is using FileGroupData and a non-clustered index is set to use FileGroupIndex. To simulate a disk failure I've shut down SQL server and manually deleted the files in index file-group. To start the database I'll mark the files 'OFFLINE', but after that I can't delete the index files, which are now offline. I don't have backup of the files as they are merely indices, but that has the implication that I can't restore the files and have their status as "ONLINE". How would you recommend removing the files and the file-group as they still show up in management studio under files/file-groups. Management studio is not able to delete them. Could someone post some sample code of how to consume the Url (Point 1.) in either library (or any other way that may work just as well)? Thanks!

• Problem using SQLDMO/Vb6 against SQL2008

  I have a client, that uses SQLDMO for a portion of a custom application that was written against SQL 2000, and they recently upgraded to SQL2008. The majority of the app still runs fine (doesn't use SQLDMO), but the admin functions which rely on SQLDMO stopped working. I installed the SQL2005 backward compatibility pack, and now SQLDMO partially works, i.e. I can run "select" type queries, but any "Update" queries fail with the error message: to connect to the server you must use SQL Server management studio or sql server management objects (SMO) Any thoughts? Should the backward compatibility pack give me ALL the functionality back, or is this a known issue? BTW: I realize SQLDMO has been deprecated and will go away next release, none-the-less I need to do what I can to solve the problem at hand.

• Set up basic Windows Authentication to connect to SQL Server 2008 from a small, trusted network

  I'm guessing that this is documented somewhere on Microsoft's site, but thus far I haven't found it. I'm trying to set up a Windows Server 2008 box to have SQL Server 2008 with Windows Authentication (Mixed Mode, actually, but anyway) for work. We have a number of client machines that will need access to the databases, and I would like to keep configuration as simple as feasible. Here's what I've done so far: Install SQL Server 2008 selecting Mixed Mode Create a new 'Standard' (rather than Administrator) Windows login entitled "UserLogin" (with intent to use it as the access account) Create an SQL Server Login for Server\UserLogin and assign it 'Windows Authentication' Log in as UserLogin, check that I'm able to connect to SQL Server using WIndows Authentication, then log out again Start on the first client (Windows XPSP2, SQL Server 2005): Run C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr Click "Add", enter the server name in the box, Server\UserLogin in the Username, and UserLogin's password in the Password field. Click "Ok" then "Close" Attempt to access SQL Server 2005 using Windows authentication. Succeed. Confetti! Start on the second client (Windows 7, SQL Server 2008): Run C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr Click "Add", enter the server name in the box, Server\UserLogin in the Username, and UserLogin's password in the Password field. Click "Ok" then "Close" Attempt to access SQL Server 2008 using Windows authentication. Receive an error "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication" Assume that this translates to "You can't have two connections from the same account" (Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but I'm a bit like that) Go back to the server, create a second Windows account, give it SQL Server rights. Go back to the second client, create a new passkey for the second login, try logging in again. Continue to receive the same error. Is this all overly complex and there's an easy way to do what I'm trying to accomplish? Or am I missing some ultra-obvious step that would make everything behave as desired? Most of the stuff that's coming up when I try to Google seems to be along the lines of "My ASP.NET application isn't working!", which obviously isn't all that much use.

• Prevent Windows 7 User Accounts from accessing files in other User Accounts

  I'm trying to set up another User Account on my Windows 7 Professional laptop for use by another person. I do not want that person to have access to any of the files in my User Account on the same machine. This machine has a single hard disk formatted with NTFS. User accounts data is stored in the default location, C:\Users. I use the computer with a Standard Account (not an Administrator). Let's call my user account "User A." I have given the new user a Standard Account. Let's call the new user's account "User B." To be clear, I want User B to have the ability to log in to her account, to use the computer, but to be unable to access any of the files in the User A account on the same machine. Currently, User B cannot use Windows Explorer to navigate to the location C:\Users\User A. However, by simply using Windows Search, User B can easily find and open documents saved in C:\Users\User A\Documents. After opening a document, that document's full path appears in "Recent Places" in Windows Explorer, and the document appears as a file that can be opened using the "Recent" feature in Word 2010. This is not the desired behavior. User B should not have the ability to see any documents using Windows Search or anything else. I have attempted to set permissions using the following procedure. Using an Administrator account, navigate to C:\Users and right-click on the "User A" folder. Select "Properties." In the "User A Properties" window that appears, click the "Security" tab. Click the "Edit..." button to change permissions. IN the "Permissions for User B" window that appears, under "Group or User Names," select User B. Under "Permissions for User B", check the box under the "Deny" column for the "Full Control" row. Ensure that the "Deny" box is automatically checked for all the other rows, and then click "OK." The system should then begin working. The process could take several minutes. When I followed this procedure, I received several "Access Denied" errors, suggesting that the system was unable to set the permissions as I had directed. I think this might be one of the reasons why User B is still able to access files in User A's account folders. Is there any other way I could accomplish my goal here? Thank you.

• Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

  I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD. OLDadmin = Our previous Server Administrator. NEWadmin = Me. SALES@ = Our Sales Manager. Customer# = A Customer. • Accessing ImageButton Contents

  I am representing a Solar-System's planets with ImageButtons that show the planet's image on the surface of the button, and hold the planet's important data.. name, distance from sun, etc within an instance of a Planet class, stored within the ImageButton.Content property. When the ImageButton is selected, I am attempting to access and display the Planet class's data for the selected Planet. Although ((ImageButton)e.OriginalSource).Content permits viewing all of the Planet class's properties in the debugger, I haven't figured out how to access the Planet class properties directly, as in Pluto.DistanceFromTheSun? Is it possible to access the Planet class information held in the ImageButton contents directly?

• .Net opening and clossing database connections

  I currently designed the data access portion of our framework so that every time a business object needed to interact with the database it would have to open a connection, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query), and then close the connection. Then if it needed to run in a transaction it would open the connection, begin the transaction, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query) and then commit the transaction, close the transaction, and finally close the connection. I did it this way with the mindset of open late and close early...but what if I needed to call other BO's to submit data in a single transaction? Is there a better way to handle opening and closing connections as well as working with transactions? I'm a rookie at architecting applications so I hope I'm not doing this wrong...any help is appreciated.

  I upgraded my Ubuntu server to 14.04 and Apache 2.4.7. Now my images don't load and console yields net::ERR_INCOMPLETE_CHUNKED_ENCODING. • Crystal Reports Server - Database Login Needs to go Away

  The environment I'm working in is a Crystal Reports Server 2008 talking to a MySQL Server 5.1 database using JDBC. The problem is that I get a database logon screen every time I try to access a report from Crystal Reports Server. I've setup a JDBC connection using the MySQL Connector/J driver. When I create a .rpt file I provide the login credentails all is fine. I then publish to InfoView and go to access the report and it prompts me for username and password to the database. I then went to CMC and right-clicked on the report and opened the Database Configuration. I've selected 'Use original database logon information from the report' and 'Use same database logon as when report is run'. However, I still get the logon screen when I try to access the report.

• Accidentally Removed Permissions for the XP SP3 Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT! Workaround Please!

  This is Praveen and I am using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Build 2600. I had problems with using Microsoft Office 2010. It was keeping on saying, "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010". After seeing this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlookcontact/thread/6e9c3f2e-010a-4b74-b433-0c41548ee468?prof=required I thought of giving the Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, full access permissions for Everyone. I went to the registry, right-clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and clicked on Permissions. I added Everyone and gave Full Control to the ACL and clicked on Apply. Also I checked "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." After a long time, it said with an error, cannot replace for few entries. Now, the key, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no access to any user. My system is not starting up. Some of my friends asked me to try the Last Known Good Configuration. Even that did not work out. When I tried to open in the Safe Mode, I got only one driver to load and even that didn't load well. Another friend suggested me to put the Setup disk and reinstall the OS. I tried that and after completing the "Installing Device Drivers" part, when it started "Installing Network", the system is getting restarted. Now, the setup is also half way through and even if I open in Safe Mode to try System Restore, it popped up a message saying, "Setup cannot run under Safe Mode. Setup will restart now." and the system is restarting. All my official files and my software, which I developed for Registry Security, resides in my system now. I am unable to access the system and I want it to be working to submit the project, as the deadline is this week. I had no better solutions from elsewhere. Can anyone please help me out with this issue. If it is possible to open the registry editor's stored file from another system and restore the access permissions, I hope it would solve the problem.   I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running RDS. I have installed and configured RemoteApp to publish applications with RDS Web Access. When I browse to https://servernname.domain.local/RDWeb I can log in and get to the RemoteApp Programs tab, but there are no icons or apps to click on. I have added a bunch of apps in Remote App manager and they are all enabled for RD Web Access. Also, I am an administrator on the server.
