• Best practice to pass a value from pop over control on iPad.

  It is an iPad app based on SDK 3.2. I have a MainUIView, that is subclass from UIView, it have a UIButton and a UILabel. When user press the UIButton, the pop over control will be appeared with a table view. When the user select a cell from the table view, the UILabel changes content base on the user click, and the pop up table view will disappear. The question is, how can I pass the "selected cell" to the UILabel. I am thinking making a "middle man" object. When the user click the UIButton, and the "middle man" will pass to the table. When the cell is selected, the "middle man" will store the idx, and call the UILabel change content from the value of "middle man". But I think it is pretty complex to implement, is there any easier way to implement it? thz u.

• How to benchmark apache/nginx setup

  I am planning to setup nginx as reverse proxy. I will have apache to deliver my dynamic content, and nginx will deliver the static content. My configuration i have now is just Apache with fastCGI. This gives me no configuration problems and runs great. After I have set up nginx I want to run some benchmarks to see if I really got some performance increases, else i will switch back. Does anyone know how I can benchmark this type of setup? Or maybe someone did this already and have some canned results, I will be glad to hear them. PS. I know this is more a serverfault type of question, but i have seen numerous posts about apache and nginx so i thought i give it a try

• image rendering issue

  I am running Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS). For some reason certain images, jpg, gif, or png will show up as byte code when accessed directly on the server. Firefox 3 and Safari both think the content type is text/html. IE I believe has something built in to recognize it is an image and ignore the content type and renders the image correctly regardless. I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. An example of this can be found at http://www.thedacs.com/admin/gp/userfiles/image/gp28%5Fimg%5F01.jpg but the image below on same server the image is rendered correctly (use same path from above) Fig3mod.jpg The first image works fine in Photoshop CS, Illistrator, GIMP, Paint.net,and any other image editing software. I have tried everything when editing the images from trying multiple file formats to print screens and cropping to create a new image to lose old image meta data. Can anybody help?

• Archiving an Entire Rails Site

  I have a Ruby on Rails site that was only needed for a short period of time during which users added various objects to a mySQL database, commenting on them, associating themselves with them, etc. etc. etc. The question is this: the site is no longer needed until a week next year around this time when I will clear the database and use it again (starting from scratch). What's the best way to archive the current site so that the existing content is still viewable but no new content can be added? By best way, I mean the method by which the least system resources will be used, the server will be the safest, etc. Any suggestions?

• Why can't I set a cookie and redirect?

  I´m having a problem setting a cookie and doing a 302 redirect In chrome the cookie is not being set (I haven't tested safari), in other browsers I was having the same problem until I added Path=/ to the cookie an now it works. This is how the header looks; the status is 302 Found Content-Type text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Expires Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT Set-Cookie alasca-flash=error-Message<Required<error-Name<Required<error-Sex<Required<error-Age<Required<;Path=/ Location /messages/sdf Content-Length 0 Server Jetty(6.1.x) Any idea on why the cookie is not set? • Trim "Minify" inline css at runtime, expand it at edit time.

  My custom WP theme has a text block in the theme options panel that allows the user to create and maintain a custom css block that is applied to the site template at runtime. I would like to trim or "minify" this content before its stored in the database, but retain all the whitespace when its presented back to the user for editing. Would this be possible? For example, if the user has entered the following as their custom css code... .red {color:red;} .green {color:green;} .blue {color:blue;} Then I would like to store it in the database as: .red{color:red;}.green{color:green;}.blue{color:blue;} But still display it as it was input (ie, retain all the white space and line breaks) when the user is editing the content via my theme options panel.

• problem showing pictures stored outside web root folder

  On a website users can upload pictures. For security reasons these are stored outside the webroot (public_html) folder. When I need to display the picture, I send the headers and have "readfile" read and output the picture data, like so: header("Pragma: public"); header("Expires: 0"); // set expiration time header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0"); header('Content-type: image/jpg'); header('Content-Length: ' . $filesize); readfile($path_url . '/' . $photo); This works great, but the site is growing and this is starting to be a burden on the server. Question: is there a way to send the picture or picture data to the user, without the server first having to load the picture (obviously with the picture still being stored outside the webroot folder)?   I am wanting to query the members of a given playlist. I have the correct playlist id, and want to use a managedQuery() to look at the playlist members in question. That gives me back a valid content URI that looks like: content://media/external/audio/playlists/2/members However, my cursor comes back null. I probably am way off base -- I know what I want to do is very simple.

  Hi, I am using JMS Messaging in my java program. My messages are coming from IBM Main Frame and the messages are xml files. Mainframe pushwa messages that is xml files to the queue But when the java program reads the messages from the queue an additional character "?" gets added in front of the xml file. For example a file like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> becomes ?<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> when I read the message from the queue. And when I try to parse this I catch the following exception SAX Exception org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Content is not allowed in trailing section. Content is not allowed in trailing section What could be the reason for this additional character getting added ?

  I have 2 div's contained in a third. One of the contained div's is floated left, the other floated right. I would like the 2 sibling div's to always be at the same height, but am having a problem with this. So far I am only viewing the page in Firefox, and figured I'd worry about any cross-browser issues after I get it working in at least one browser. In an example I tried, Firefox said the computed style height of the #main-container was 804px, the computed style height of the #left-div was 800px, and the computed style height of the #right-div was 586.2px, as it had expanded to fit it's own content. I understand I might be going about this the wrong way, and if this is a duplicate questions then I apologize, but I wasn't quite sure what to search under.

• best way to externalize HTML in GWT apps?

  What's the best way to externalize large quantities of HTML in a GWT app? We have a rather complicated GWT app of about 30 "pages"; each page has a sort of guide at the bottom that is several paragraphs of HTML markup. I'd like to externalize the HTML so that it can remain as "unescaped" as possible. I know and understand how to use property files in GWT; that's certainly better than embedding the content in Java classes, but still kind of ugly for HTML (you need to backslashify everything, as well as escape quotes, etc.) Normally this is the kind of thing you would put in a JSP, but I don't see any equivalent to that in GWT. I'm considering just writing a widget that will simply fetch the content from html files on the server and then add the text to an HTML widget. But it seems there ought to be a simpler way.

This application periodically has updates (.xpi with new version). When my application is updating it does next: Remove folder and content [FF_inst_dir]\extensions\MyExtension Copy new my.xpi to [FF_inst_dir]\extensions However, when I restart FF I see: FF ask me about install add-on. I agree. FF remove my.xpi (it's ok) FF remove folder and content [FF_inst_dir]\extensions\MyExtension I think that FF try to remove old plugin. Thus, I havn't installed plugin. How it can be installed correct?

• Getting empty result within PHP when in browser I get the JSON exception

  I have this code: $url="https://graph.facebook.com/me/friends?access_token=".$access_token."&fields=id,first_name,last_name&limit=10"; $content=file_get_contents($url); Whenever I use this on a non authenticated user I should get feedback of OAuthException, which doesn't show up in the PHP the $content is empty. While if I copy the URL to the browser I get the result and I see the exception. I want to detect if the user is logged in and the session data is valid. What might be wrong?

• jQuery preventDefault stops rest of code working

  I have this code where I am using jQuery to navigate to the next page, because I want some effects to take place before that happens. The problem is, that everything after the prevent.Default(); doesn't seem to work! $("a").click(function(event){ event.preventDefault(); $(".content-center").animate({height: "0px"}, 500); navigate($(this).attr('href')); }); I need things to happen in that order, so that the animation happens and once it's complete - load the next page...   Hi all, I'm using jQuery to post HTTP requests to my PHP page (Apache/Linux, if that matters). I carefully validate on the client so that empty requests are not sent. However on occasions, I'd get an empty request like this: - $_POST collection empty ($_GET collection also empty); - Content-Length is nonzero (a number below 100, consistent with a valid POST from my script) - Content-Type properly application/x-www-form-urlencoded - reading from php://input yields an empty string It's as if $_POST is somehow eaten on the way. I checked the code very carefully - I don't do anything to the contents of $_POST. Any ideas, please?
