• Checked equivalent to IllegalArgumentException?

  I have a method that takes an enum as a parameter and returns some information dependent on that parameter. However, that enum contains some values which should not be handled, and should raise an error condition. Currently the method throws an IllegalArgumentException but I would like this to be a checked exception to force callers to catch it (and return gracefully, logging an error). Is there something suitable or should I create my own Exception subclass? I'm open to other patterns as well. A reasonable reaction would be that all values of the enum should be handled, but that isn't the case. When a new value is added to the enum, I want to make sure that this method does the right thing - alerting a human is preferable to using some default return value in this case. Thanks for any advice.

I want it to print 1 } } How can I change TrueFalseQuestion Type so that the static method is always run so that I get 1 instead of 0 when I run my main method? I do not want any change in the main method. I am actually trying to implement the factory patterns where the subclasses register with the factory but i have simplified the code for this question.

• Check if there are any repeated elements in a array recursively

  I have to find recursively if there is any repeated element in an integer array v. The method must have the following signature: boolean hasRepeatedElements(int[] v) I can't see any way of doing that recursively without having to define another method or at least another overload to this method (one that takes for example the element to go after or something). At first I thought about checking for the current v if there is some element equal to the first element, then creating a new array with L-1 elements etc but that seems rather inefficient. Is it the only way? Am I missing here something?

  Using VS 2010, with ASP.NET, and .NET 3.0, and C#... When I use a System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource and call its Insert() method to insert a new row, and that table has an identity column, I'd like my method to return the value of that column. For example, in my SQL 2005 table, I've got: Customer.Id Customer.FirstName Customer.LastName Where Customer.Id is an identity colum. When I call my method InsertNewCustomerRecord( "John", "Smith" ), I'd like to be able to return the Customer.Id that gets automatically generated in the database. Sorry for such a roughly posed question. Let me know if I can add better detail. Thanks.

• FileInputStream for a generic file System

  I have a file that contains java serialized objects like "Vector". I have stored this file over Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS). Now I intend to read this file (using method readObject) in one of the map task. I suppose FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream("hdfs/path/to/file"); wont' work as the file is stored over HDFS. So I thought of using org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem class. But Unfortunately it does not have any method that returns FileInputStream. All it has is a method that returns FSDataInputStream but I want a inputstream that can read serialized java objects like vector from a file rather than just primitive data types that FSDataInputStream would do. Please help!

For example, X person saves 10 contacts, Y persons save 15 contacts, z persons save 20 contacts and so on. I cant create seperate tables to save contacts of x,y,z and so on. But i just want to know the alternative method to do that. Is there any easy method to save different cotacts and is there any easy method to retrieve it. I'm just a student, i don't know much about sql and don't have much experience in this. So i need your help to know much about this.

  How would you write a universal app that uses classes introduced in iPhone OS 3.2, such as UIPopoverController and UISplitViewController? On Jeff LaMarche's blog about this, Ole provides a method for instantiating these objects; you would instantiate a UIPopoverController like so: [NSClassFromString(@"UIPopoverController") alloc]. This is fine for instantiating these classes in code but what about protocols and their methods? My iPad app uses a UISplitViewController and has a class that needs to conform to the UISplitViewControllerDelegate and UIPopoverControllerDelegate. How would you declare this? And how would you work with a method such as the following? - (void)splitViewController:(UISplitViewController *)svc willHideViewController:(UIViewController *)aViewController withBarButtonItem:(UIBarButtonItem *)barButtonItem forPopoverController:(UIPopoverController *)pc where the method call requires UISplitViewController to be passed in?

• richfaces keepAlive not working

  I have a mediaOutput tag which, in its createContent attribute, requires the backing bean to be in a certain state. A list of values, which is filled in an init method, must be available. I therefore added a keepAlive tag for the whole backing bean. I now indeed see the backingBean in stead of some (richfaces) proxy bean, but the filled list is null again. How to make this possible? • PHP upload file using PUT instead of POST

  I read something about this on PHP docs, but it's not celar to me: Do the most widely used browsers (IE, FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera, ...) support this PUT method to uplaod files? What HTML should I write to make the browser call the server via PUT request. I mean do I need to write a FORM with an INPUT file field and just replace the attribute method="POST" with the method="PUT"? On the PHP docs (link above) they say a PUT request is much simplier than a POST request when uploading file, along with this advantage, what other advantages/disadvanatges do the PUT has comapred to teh POST? I call the same BindPort method in client. Then a exception occurs at DataReceived method. I think there must be a problem that I don't close the UDP port properly. But how can i close the UDP socket properly and rebind to another one. Thanks.

  Hi. I got .asmx a web service on my app. I need to call a method from an other app to get statistics from my app. I need it to return XML. the call to the webmethod is done with javascript soap. There is a default hellow world webmethod and calling that work but it seem that when i try to call a method where i need to pass parameters and it need to execute code it wont work and just return my error message. any ideas on what can be wrong. am I using the wrong web method?

  I have a class that implements the INotifyPropertyChanged interface. Some of the properties of the class are of type List. For example: public List<string> Answers { get { return _answers; } set { _answers = value; onPropertyChanged("Answers") } } ... private void onPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if(this.PropertyChanged != null) this.PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } If I assign a new List<string> to Answer, then the PropertyChanged event fires as expected; but if I add a string string to the Answer list using the List Add method, then PropertyChanged event doesn't fire. I was considering adding an AddAnswer() method to my class, which would handle calling the lists's Add method and would call onPropertyChanged() from there, but is that the right way to do it? My requreiment is as soon as producer calls set method i have to downlaod fresh data from intenet . If doSomething function is running, when Producer calls set method, i have to interrupt it and call again. Any help is appreciated. Regards Raju

I'm guessing that's because there's Equals(Object) and Equals(String) - is there any way for me to specify which method I mean to use via the overload of Expression.Call() that takes an instance method name as a string? Or do I have to make a special case for calls to Equals() to take a MethodInfo instead?

• Loading an XML configuration file BEFORE the flex application loads

  Hi, We are using an XML file as an external configuration file for several parameters in our application (including default values for UI components and properties values of some service layer objects). The idea is to be able to load the XML configuration file before the flex application initializes any of its components. This is crucial because XML loading is processed a-synchronously in flex, which can potentially cause race-conditions in the application. For example: the configuration file holds the endpoint URL of a web service used to obtain data from the server. The URL resides in the XML because we want to allow our users to alter the endpoint URL according to their environment. Now because the endpoint URL is retrieved only after the XML has been completely loaded, some of the application's components might be invoking operations on this web service before it is initialized with the correct endpoint. The trivial solution would have been to suspend the initialization of the application until the complete event is dispatched by the loader. But it appears that this solution is far from being trivial. I haven't found a single solution that allows me to load the XML before any other object in the application. Can anyone advice or comment on this matter? Regards, Shahar

  Quick question: One of my forms in my winform app (c#) makes an async call to a WCF service to get some data. If the form happens to close before the callback happens, it crashes with an error about accessing a disposed object. What's the correct way to check/handle this situation?   Hi, I have the following get method: public List<PersonalMessage> getMessagesList() { List<PersonalMessage> newList = new ArrayList<PersonalMessage>(); for(PersonalMessage pMessage : this.listMessages) { newList.add(pMessage.clone()); } return newList; } And you can see that if I need to change the implementation from ArrayList to something else, I can easily do it and I just have to change the initialization of newList and all other code that depends on what getMessageList() returns will still work. Then I have this set method: public void setMessagesList(ArrayList<PersonalMessage> listMessages) { this.listMessages = listMessages; } My question is, should I use List instead of `ArrayList in the method signature? I have decided to use ArrayList because this way I can force the implementation I want, otherwise there could be a mess with different types of lists here and there. But I'm not sure if this is the way to go...

• Dynamic access of classes of a given namespace

  Hi! I'm writing an interface that will be implemented by a lot of classes, and I'm writing a class that will hold a collection of instances of these implementations. Every class will have a default constructor. So, is there a simple way (e.g. using some kind of reflection) to put an instance of each of these implementing classes to the collection? Besides doing it manually, which is simple, yes, but a lot of work and error prone (what if I missed an implementation while writing the method? What if a new implementation came and I forgot to update the given method?). So, what I would like is to be able to iterate through all classes of a given namespace or maybe through the list of all available classes. My method then would simply check, through reflection, if the given class implements the given interface, and if it does, puts it into the collection. Thank you.

• C# Calling Methods in Generic Classes

  I am extending the ImageBox control from EmguCV. The control's Image property can be set to anything implementing the IImage interface. All of the following implement this interface: Image<Bgr, Byte> Image<Ycc, Byte> Image<Hsv, Byte> Now I want to call the Draw method on the object of the above type (what ever it may be). The problem is when I access the Image property, the return type is IImage. IImage does not implement the Draw method, but all of the above do. I believe I can cast the object of type IImage to one of the above (the right one) and I can access the Draw method. But how do I know what the right one is? If you have a better way of doing this, please suggest that as well.

The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. and LoginServlet.doGet method doesn't get called. But then when I press Enter again (in address bar) my doGet method gets called. What is wrong? I am using JEE eclipse and Tomcat
