  • Pattern for version-specific implementations of a Java class

    - by Mike Monkiewicz
So here's my conundrum. I am programming a tool that needs to work on old versions of our application. I have the code to the application, but can not alter any of the classes. To pull information out of our database, I have a DTO of sorts that is populated by Hibernate. It consumes a data object for version 1.0 of our app, cleverly named DataObject. Below is the DTO class. public class MyDTO { private MyWrapperClass wrapper; public MyDTO(DataObject data) { wrapper = new MyWrapperClass(data); } } The DTO is instantiated through a Hibernate query as follows: select new com.foo.bar.MyDTO(t1.data) from mytable t1 Now, a little logic is needed on top of the data object, so I made a wrapper class for it. Note the DTO stores an instance of the wrapper class, not the original data object. public class MyWrapperClass { private DataObject data; public MyWrapperClass(DataObject data) { this.data = data; } public String doSomethingImportant() { ... version-specific logic ... } } This works well until I need to work on version 2.0 of our application. Now DataObject in the two versions are very similar, but not the same. This resulted in different sub classes of MyWrapperClass, which implement their own version-specific doSomethingImportant(). Still doing okay. But how does myDTO instantiate the appropriate version-specific MyWrapperClass? Hibernate is in turn instantiating MyDTO, so it's not like I can @Autowire a dependency in Spring. I would love to reuse MyDTO (and my dozens of other DTOs) for both versions of the tool, without having to duplicate the class. Don't repeat yourself, and all that. I'm sure there's a very simple pattern I'm missing that would help this. Any suggestions?

  • How to get around LazyInitializationException in scheduled jobs?

    - by Shreerang
I am working on a J2EE server application which is deployed on Tomcat. I use Spring source as MVC framework and Hibernate as ORM provider. My object model has lot of Lazy relationships (dependent objects are fetched on request). The high level design is like Service level methods call a few DAO methods to perform database operation. The service method is called either from the Flex UI or as a scheduled job. When it is called from Flex UI, the service method works fine i.e. it fetches some objects using DAO methods and even Lazy loading works. This is possible by the use of OpenSessionInViewFilter configured with the UI servlet. But when the same service method is called as scheduled Job, it gives LazyInitializationException. I can not configure OpenSessionInViewFilter because there is no servlet or UI request associated with that. I tried configuring Transaction around the scheduled job method so that service method starts a transaction and all the DAO methods participate in that same transaction, hoping that the transaction will remain active and hibernate session will be available. But it does not work. Please suggest if anyone has ever been able to get such a configuration working. If needed, I can post the Hibernate configuration and log messages. Thanks a lot for help! • Database PK-FK design for future-effective-date entries?

    - by Scott Balmos
Ultimately I'm going to convert this into a Hibernate/JPA design. But I wanted to start out from purely a database perspective. We have various tables containing data that is future-effective-dated. Take an employee table with the following pseudo-definition: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Very simplistic. But let's say Employee A has id = 1, effectiveFrom = 1/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099. That employee is going to be changing jobs in the future, which would in theory create a new row, id = 2 with effectiveFrom = 7/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099, and id = 1's effectiveTo updated to 6/30/2011. But now, my program would have to go through any table that has a FK relationship to employee every night, and update those FK to reference the newly-effective employee entry. I have seen various postings in both pure SQL and Hibernate forums that I should have a separate employee_versions table, which is where I would have all effective-dated data stored, resulting in the updated pseudo-definition below: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_versions id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Then to get any actual data, one would have to actually select from employee_versions with the proper employee_id and date range. This feels rather unnatural to have this secondary "versions" table for each versioned entity. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions from your own prior work, etc? Like I said, I'm taking this purely from a general SQL design standpoint first before layering in Hibernate on top. Thanks!

  • How to improve my software project's speed?

    - by Blitzkr1eg
I'm doing a school software project with my class mates in Java. We store the info on a remote db. When we start the application we pull all the information from the database and transform it into objects to use in our application (using java sql statemens). In the application we edit some of these objects and then when we exit the application we save or update information in the database using Hibernate. As you see we dont use Hibernate for pulling in information, we use it just for saving and updating. We have 2, but very similar problems. The loading of object(when we start the app) and the saving of objects(with Hibernate) in the db(when closing the app) is taking too much time. And our project its not a huge enterprise application, its a quite small app, we just manage some students, teachers, homeworks and tests. So our db is also very very small. How could we increase performance ? later edit: if we use a local database it runs very quick, it just runs slow on remote databases

    I am trying to reference some child entities with part of the parents composite key not all of it, why cant I? This happens when I use the following mapping instead of that which is commented. I get the following error Foreign key in table VolatileEventContent must have same number of columns as referenced primary key in table LocationSearchView <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" namespace="JeanieMaster.Domain.Entities" assembly="JeanieMaster.Domain"> <class name="LocationSearchView" table="LocationSearchView"> <composite-id> <key-property name="LocationId" type="Int32"></key-property> <key-property name="ContentProviderId" type="Int32"></key-property> <key-property name="CategoryId" type="Int32"></key-property> </composite-id> <property name="CompanyName" type="String" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="Description" type="String" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="CategoryId" type="Int32" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="ContentProviderId" type="Int32" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="LocationId" type="Int32" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="Latitude" type="Double" update="false" insert="false" /> <property name="Longitude" type="Double" update="false" insert="false" /> <bag name="Events" table="VolatileEventContent" where="DeactivatedOn IS NULL" order-by="StartDate DESC" lazy="false" cascade="none"> <key> <column name="LocationId"></column> <column name="ContentProviderId"></column> <!--<column name="LocationId"></column> <column name="ContentProviderId"></column> <column name="CategoryId"></column>--> </key> <one-to-many class="Event" column="VolatileEventContentId"></one-to-many> </bag> </class> </hibernate-mapping> And VolatileEventContent mapping file <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" namespace="JeanieMaster.Domain.Entities" assembly="JeanieMaster.Domain"> <class name="Event" table="VolatileEventContent" select-before-update="false" optimistic-lock="none"> <composite-id> <key-property name="LocationId" type="Int32"></key-property> <key-property name="ContentProviderId" type="Int32"></key-property> </composite-id> <property name="Description" type="String" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false"/> <property name="StartDate" type="DateTime" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false" /> <property name="EndDate" type="DateTime" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false" /> <property name="CreatedOn" type="DateTime" not-null="true" update="false" insert="false" /> <property name="ModifiedOn" type="DateTime" not-null="false" update="false" insert="false" /> <many-to-one name="Location" class="Location" column="LocationId" /> <bag name="Artistes" table="EventArtiste" lazy="false" cascade="none"> <key name="VolatileEventContentId" /> <many-to-many class="Artiste" column="ArtisteId" ></many-to-many> </bag> </class> </hibernate-mapping>

  • JPA - FindByExample

    - by HDave
Does anyone have a good example for how to do a findByExample in JPA? I know I can do it via my provider (Hibernate), but I don't want to break with neutrality... Seems like the criteria API might be the way to go....but I am not sure.

  • How can I recreate a SQL statement using NHibernate that has an inner select case?

    - by brianberns
I am trying to recreate something like the following SQL using NHibernate criteria: select Range, count(*) from ( select case when ent.ID between 'A' and 'N' then 'A-M' else 'Other' end as Range from Subject ) tbl group by tbl.Range I am able to create the inner select as follows: session.CreateCriteria<Subject>() .SetProjection( Projections.Conditional( Expression.Between("Name", "A", "N"), Projections.Constant("A-M"), Projections.Constant("Other"))) .List(); However, I can't figure out how to pipe those results into a grouping by row count.

  • Why can't I physically access my machine after a remote session?

    - by Steve Crane
I have a Dell Optiplex 960 desktop running Windows 7 64-bit at work. I typically leave it locked rather than logged off when I go home, so that I'm able to remote in from home and continue working if I wish. This is where the problem comes in. If I don't remote in there is no problem and I can simply unlock the next morning. It's when I do remote in that I have a problem. Remote sessions work as expected but when I get to work the next morning the machine appears to have gone into a sleep or hibernate state, from which no amount of mouse moving or keyboard pounding will wake it. The machine is not hanging as remote sessions to it are still possible; it seems that physical access from it's own mouse and keyboard are lost. The only way to gain access is to press and hold the power switch for several seconds until the machine shuts down. Of course this means Windows does not gracefully shut down and after powering up it takes several minutes for the machine to boot and reach the login prompt; presumably while it checks the disk. Has anyone else seen something like this?

  • Windows 7 misses keystrokes from internal keyboard after hibernation (on Acer Aspire 5820)

    - by ron
I face a very strange symptom on my Acer Aspire laptop (with the factory default Win7 install and divers. Windows update running). After waking the computer from hibernation, it is a pain to type, since on average 5-10 keypresses are missing per 100 presses, using the laptop's keyboard. Steps to reproduce: 1) Power off 2) Power on, wait for system to become usable 3) Open notepad, for 5 times do hit 10x the same character. This gives a similar pattern of 50 chars total: xxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaassssssssssdddddddddd 4) Optionally repeat. Everything is fine this far. 5) Hibernate. 6) Power on and resume. 7) Repeat steps 3)-4). This time approximately 3-5 character will be missing from each 50 characters. What I ruled out: putting to Sleep or just Locking and resuming from there does not cause problem battery / AC usage does not matter net connection does not matter running processes seem to be the same before and after hibernation key press speed doesn't really matter. For the test I use a nominal 3-5 strokes/second beat. plugging in an external USB keyboard works fine, but the built-in one still misbehaves What could be the problem? How could I diagnose if the keypresses arrive in, but get swallowed at some point? (maybe some nasty keyboard handler hook misbehaves?). Update: It seems that pushing the PowerSmart button and toggling to power saving state fixes the problem. Also, toggling it again back to the original state keeps it fixed. So this may be a fine workaround, but is not a conforming solution.

  • NoPrimaryKeyException from DBUnit when loading a dataset into a databse

    - by Omar Kooheji
I'm getting NoPrimaryKeyException when I try to run one of my unit tests which uses DBUnit. The datatable is created using Hibernate and is a join table between two classes mapping a many to many relationship. The annotations that define the relationship are as follows: @Override @ManyToMany @JoinTable(name="offset_file_offset_entries", joinColumns={@JoinColumn(name="offset_entry_id")},inverseJoinColumns={@JoinColumn(name="file_description_id")}) public List<OffsetEntry> getOffsets() { The other entries in in the XML file I'm using to define the dataset seem to work fine but not the join table. I get the following exception: org.dbunit.dataset.NoPrimaryKeyException: offset_file_offset_entries at org.dbunit.operation.UpdateOperation.getOperationData(UpdateOperation.java:72) at org.dbunit.operation.RefreshOperation$UpdateRowOperation.<init>(RefreshOperation.java:266) at org.dbunit.operation.RefreshOperation.createUpdateOperation(RefreshOperation.java:142) at org.dbunit.operation.RefreshOperation.execute(RefreshOperation.java:100) at org.dbunit.ext.mssql.InsertIdentityOperation.execute(InsertIdentityOperation.java:217) at uk.co.sabio.obscheduler.application.dao.AbstractBaseDatabaseTest.setUp(AbstractBaseDatabaseTest.java:57) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.runManaged(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:332) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.access$0(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:326) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests$1.run(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:216) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.runTest(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:296) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.runTestTimed(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:253) at org.springframework.test.context.junit38.AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.runBare(AbstractJUnit38SpringContextTests.java:213) at junit.framework.TestResult$1.protect(TestResult.java:110) at junit.framework.TestResult.runProtected(TestResult.java:128) at junit.framework.TestResult.run(TestResult.java:113) at junit.framework.TestCase.run(TestCase.java:124) at junit.framework.TestSuite.runTest(TestSuite.java:232) at junit.framework.TestSuite.run(TestSuite.java:227) at org.junit.internal.runners.JUnit38ClassRunner.run(JUnit38ClassRunner.java:83) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit4.runner.JUnit4TestReference.run(JUnit4TestReference.java:46) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit.runner.TestExecution.run(TestExecution.java:38) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit.runner.RemoteTestRunner.runTests(RemoteTestRunner.java:467) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit.runner.RemoteTestRunner.runTests(RemoteTestRunner.java:683) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit.runner.RemoteTestRunner.run(RemoteTestRunner.java:390) at org.eclipse.jdt.internal.junit.runner.RemoteTestRunner.main(RemoteTestRunner.java:197) the Dataset entry in question looks like this: <offset_file_offset_entries offset_entry_id="1" file_description_id="1" /> And matches up with the database which has both fields as primary keys (The Databse is MS SQL Server if that helps) There are corresponding entries in the two tables being Joined defined in the following xml: <dataset> <file_description file_path="src/test/resources/" file_pattern=".txt" file_description_id="1"/> <offset_file_description file_description_id="1"/> <offset_entries offset_entry_id="1" field_name="Field1" field_length="10" start_index="0"/> <offset_file_offset_entries offset_entry_id="1" file_description_id="1" /> </dataset> Do I have to define the primary keys in the hibernate annotations? If so How do I do so? do I have to change the way I define my dataset to imply that the two columns are a joint primary key? I'm not very proficient with hibernate or DBUnit for that matter and I'm at my wits end so any assistance would be really appreciated.

  • Making ehcache read-write for test code and read-only for production code

    - by Rick
I would like to annotate many of my Hibernate entities that contain reference data and/or configuration data with @Cache(usage = CacheConcurrencyStrategy.READ_ONLY) However, my JUnit tests are setting up and tearing down some of this reference/configuration data using the Hibernate entities. Is there a recommended way of having entities be read-write during test setup and teardown but read-only for production code? Two of my immediate thoughts for non-ideal workarounds are: Using NONSTRICT_READ_WRITE, but I am not sure what the hidden downsides are. Creating subclassed entities in my test code to override the read-only cache annotation. Any recommendations on the cleanest way to handle this? (Note: Project uses maven.)

  • Linq-to-XML query to select specific sub-element based on additional criteria

    - by BrianLy
    My current LINQ query and example XML are below. What I'd like to do is select the primary email address from the email-addresses element into the User.Email property. The type element under the email-address element is set to primary when this is true. There may be more than one element under the email-addresses but only one will be marked primary. What is the simplest approach to take here? Current Linq Query (User.Email is currently empty): var users = from response in xdoc.Descendants("response") where response.Element("id") != null select new User { Id = (string)response.Element("id"), Name = (string)response.Element("full-name"), Email = (string)response.Element("email-addresses"), JobTitle = (string)response.Element("job-title"), NetworkId = (string)response.Element("network-id"), Type = (string)response.Element("type") }; Example XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <response> <response> <contact> <phone-numbers/> <im> <provider></provider> <username></username> </im> <email-addresses> <email-address> <type>primary</type> <address>[email protected]</address> </email-address> </email-addresses> </contact> <job-title>Account Manager</job-title> <type>user</type> <expertise nil="true"></expertise> <summary nil="true"></summary> <kids-names nil="true"></kids-names> <location nil="true"></location> <guid nil="true"></guid> <timezone>Eastern Time (US &amp; Canada)</timezone> <network-name>Domain</network-name> <full-name>Alice</full-name> <network-id>79629</network-id> <stats> <followers>2</followers> <updates>4</updates> <following>3</following> </stats> <mugshot-url> https://assets3.yammer.com/images/no_photo_small.gif</mugshot-url> <previous-companies/> <birth-date></birth-date> <name>alice</name> <web-url>https://www.yammer.com/domain.com/users/alice</web-url> <interests nil="true"></interests> <state>active</state> <external-urls/> <url>https://www.yammer.com/api/v1/users/1089943</url> <network-domains> <network-domain>domain.com</network-domain> </network-domains> <id>1089943</id> <schools/> <hire-date nil="true"></hire-date> <significant-other nil="true"></significant-other> </response> <response> <contact> <phone-numbers/> <im> <provider></provider> <username></username> </im> <email-addresses> <email-address> <type>primary</type> <address>[email protected]</address> </email-address> </email-addresses> </contact> <job-title>Office Manager</job-title> <type>user</type> <expertise nil="true"></expertise> <summary nil="true"></summary> <kids-names nil="true"></kids-names> <location nil="true"></location> <guid nil="true"></guid> <timezone>Eastern Time (US &amp; Canada)</timezone> <network-name>Domain</network-name> <full-name>Bill</full-name> <network-id>79629</network-id> <stats> <followers>3</followers> <updates>1</updates> <following>1</following> </stats> <mugshot-url> https://assets3.yammer.com/images/no_photo_small.gif</mugshot-url> <previous-companies/> <birth-date></birth-date> <name>bill</name> <web-url>https://www.yammer.com/domain.com/users/bill</web-url> <interests nil="true"></interests> <state>active</state> <external-urls/> <url>https://www.yammer.com/api/v1/users/1089920</url> <network-domains> <network-domain>domain.com</network-domain> </network-domains> <id>1089920</id> <schools/> <hire-date nil="true"></hire-date> <significant-other nil="true"></significant-other> </response> </response>

  • ORA-22835 using JPA (Buffer too small)

    - by Kenneth
I am trying to persist an Entity with a @Lob annotated String field. The content of that fiels if bigger than the 40k buffer size limit. The first problem I had was related to the setString method used internally by the JPA implementation (Hibernate in my case) and the Oracle JDBC Driver. This problem was solved adding <property name="hibernate.connection.SetBigStringTryClob" value="true"/> to my persistence.xml file. Then, the error changed to a ORA-22835 error (the buffer is too small). ¿Is there any way that JPA solves this problem without going to a low-level implementation? ¿Any suggestions?

  • Only show content when certain criteria is met?

    - by Elliot
I'm wondering if theres a best practice for what I'm trying to accomplish... First we have the model categories, categories, has_many posts. Now lets say, users add posts. Now, I have a page, that I want to display only the current user's posts by category. Lets say we have the following categories: A, B, and C User 1, has posted in Categories A and B. In my view I have something like: @categories.each do |category| category.name @posts.each do |post| if post.category_id==category.id post content here end end end The problem with this, is I'm going to show the empty category, as well as the categories that do have content. Is there a more efficient way of going about this? As I don't want to show the empty categories. Best, Elliot

  • Storing a set of criteria in another table

    - by bendataclear
I have a large table with sales data, useful data below: RowID Date Customer Salesperson Product_Type Manufacturer Quantity Value 1 01-06-2004 James Ian Taps Tap Ltd 200 £850 2 02-06-2004 Apple Fran Hats Hats Inc 30 £350 3 04-06-2004 James Lawrence Pencils ABC Ltd 2000 £980 ... Many rows later... ... 185352 03-09-2012 Apple Ian Washers Tap Ltd 600 £80 I need to calculate a large set of targets from table containing values different types, target table is under my control and so far is like: TargetID Year Month Salesperson Target_Type Quantity 1 2012 7 Ian 1 6000 2 2012 8 James 2 2000 3 2012 9 Ian 2 6500 At present I am working out target types using a view of the first table which has a lot of extra columns: SELECT YEAR(Date) , MONTH(Date) , Salesperson , Quantity , CASE WHEN Manufacturer IN ('Tap Ltd','Hats Inc') AND Product_Type = 'Hats' THEN True ELSE False END AS IsType1 , CASE WHEN Manufacturer = 'Hats Inc' AND Product_Type IN ('Hats','Coats') THEN True ELSE False END AS IsType2 ... ... , CASE WHEN Manufacturer IN ('Tap Ltd','Hats Inc') AND Product_Type = 'Hats' THEN True ELSE False END AS IsType24 , CASE WHEN Manufacturer IN ('Tap Ltd','Hats Inc') AND Product_Type = 'Hats' THEN True ELSE False END AS IsType25 FROM SalesTable WHERE [some stuff here] This is horrible to read/debug and I hate it!! I've tried a few different ways of simplifying this but have been unable to get it to work. The closest I have come is to have a third table holding the definition of the types with the values for each field and the type number, this can be joined to the tables to give me the full values but I can't work out a way to cope with multiple values for each field. Finally the question: Is there a standard way this can be done or an easier/neater method other than one column for each type of target? I know this is a complex problem so if anything is unclear please let me know. Edit - What I need to get: At the very end of the process I need to have targets displayed with actual sales: Type Year Month Salesperson TargetQty ActualQty 2 2012 8 James 2000 2809 2 2012 9 Ian 6500 6251 Each row of the sales table could potentially satisfy 8 of the types. Some more points: I have 5 different columns that need to be defined against the targets (or set to NULL to include any value) I have between 30 and 40 different types that need to be defined, several of the columns could contain as many as 10 different values For point 2, if I am using a row for each permutation of values, 2 columns with 10 values each would give me 100 rows for each sales person for each month which is a lot but if this is the only way to define multiple values I will have to do this. Sorry if this makes no sense!

Hi, I am new to JPA/Hibernate. Currently using EJB3, Hibernate/JPA. I have an inheritacnce structure as follows.. @Entity @DiscriminatorColumn(name = "form_type") @Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.JOINED) @GenericGenerator(name = "FORMS_SEQ", strategy = "sequence-identity", parameters = @Parameter(name = "sequence", value = "FORMS_SEQ")) @Table(name = "Forms") public abstract class Form{ //code for Form } @Entity @Table(name = "CREDIT_CARDS") @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn(name="CREDIT_CARD_ID") public class CreditCardForm extends Form { //Code for CreditCards. } When I add a row with save the rows are properly inserted into the parent and the child table. However when I try to delete I get an error - 10:19:35,465 ERROR [TxPolicy] javax.ejb.EJBTransactionRolledbackException: Removing a detached instance com.data.entities.form.financial.CreditCard#159? • How to I create an HQL query to return objects in a many to many relationship?

    - by Dave
Hi there. I have an application that includes 2 classes Club and Article. These are mapped in Hibernate as a many to many relationship. As a result, hibernate has created a table called CLUB_ARTICLE which it uses to manage the many to many relation ship. The CLUB and ARTILCE tables have no direct reference to each other and the mapping is only represented in the CLUB_ARTICLE table. I need to create an HQL query that returns a list of articles for a particlular club. So I need to supply the club id and get back a list of Article objects that belong to it. For some reason, I just can't work out how to do this. Any help would be very much appriciated! Thanks.

  • JPA Cascading Delete: Setting child FK to NULL on a NOT NULL column

    - by JBristow
I have two tables: t_promo_program and t_promo_program_param. They are represented by the following JPA entities: @Entity @Table(name = "t_promo_program") public class PromoProgram { @Id @Column(name = "promo_program_id") private Long id; @OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.REMOVE}) @JoinColumn(name = "promo_program_id") private List<PromoProgramParam> params; } @Entity @Table(name = "t_promo_program_param") public class PromoProgramParam { @Id @Column(name = "promo_program_param_id") private Long id; //@NotNull // This is a Hibernate annotation so that my test db gets created with the NOT NULL attribute, I'm not married to this annotation. @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "PROMO_PROGRAM_ID", referencedColumnName = "promo_program_id") private PromoProgram promoProgram; } When I delete a PromoProgram, Hibernate hits my database with: update T_PROMO_PROGRAM_PARAM set promo_program_id=null where promo_program_id=? delete from t_promo_program where promo_program_id=? and last_change=? I'm at a loss for where to start looking for the source of the problem.

  • Select on multiple criteria with XPath

    - by Matt Thrower
I have an XML document which looks something like this: <meadinkent> <record> <comp_div>MENSWEAR</comp_div> <sty_ret_type>ACCESSORIES</sty_ret_type> <sty_pdt_type>BELTS</sty_pdt_type> <pdt_category>AWESOME_BELTS</pdt_category> </record> <medinkent> I want to useXPath to select nodes which match all four elements and I'm having trouble getting the boolean syntax right. I'm trying this to match the first two just as a test: "/meadinkent/record/comp_div[.='" & comp_div & "'] and /meadinkent/record/sty_ret_type[.='" & sty_ret_type & "']" Which is failing, saying no nodes are returned. Obviously I'm being very stupid - what am I doing wrong? Cheers, mAtt

  • Passing empty list as parameter to JPA query throws error

    - by Tuukka Mustonen
If I pass an empty list into a JPA query, I get an error. For example: List<Municipality> municipalities = myDao.findAll(); // returns empty list em.createQuery("SELECT p FROM Profile p JOIN p.municipality m WHERE m IN (:municipalities)") .setParameter("municipalities", municipalities) .getResultList(); Because the list is empty, Hibernate generates this in SQL as "IN ()", which gives me error with Hypersonic database. There is a ticket for this in Hibernate issue tracking but there are not many comments/activity there. I don't know about support in other ORM products or in JPA spec either. I don't like the idea of having to manually check for null objects and empty lists every time. Is there some commonly known approach/extension to this? How do you handle these situations?
