• Securely using exec with PHP to run ffmpeg

  I would like to run ffmpeg from PHP for video encoding purposes. I was thinking of using the exec or passthru commands. However, I have been warned that enabling these functions is a security risk. In the words of my support staff: The directive 'disable_functions' is used to disable any functions that allow the execution of system commands. This is for more security of the server. These PHP functions can be used to crack the server if not used properly. I'm guessing that if exec is enabled, then someone could (possibly) execute an arbitrary unix command. Does anyone know of a secure way to run ffmpeg from PHP? By the way, I'm on a dedicated server. Thanks ahead of time!

• Reporting sanitized user input to the user via AJAX

  I am writing some code to give live feedback to the user on the validation of a form using AJAX. I have got it checking length and if the field is empty. Now I want it to sanitize the users input and if the sanatized input differs from the users original input then tell them which characters are not allowed. The code I have written so far works except some characters most notably a '£' symbol result in no response. I think it relates to json_encode and its encoding.   Im creating application that will display remote page on the UIWebView using local images and javascript/css files for faster loading. I want to avoid using cache because for this to work it must first load all the content. I was searching online for possible solution.   This question gets asked periodically, but I've long felt that existing Java logging frameworks were overcomplicated and over-engineered, and I want to see what's new. I have a more critical issue on my current project as we've standardized on JSON as our human-readable data encoding, and most logging frameworks I've seen require XML. I would really rather avoid using JSON for 95% of my apps configuration, and XML for the rest just because of the logging framework (truth be told, I hate XML used for anything other than text markup, its original intended purpose). Are there any hot new Java logging frameworks that are actively maintained, reasonably powerful, have a maven repo, can be reconfigured without restarting your app, and don't tie you to XML?

• How can I configure a Hudson job to use a specific JDK?

  I have a number of projects running on a Hudson slave. I'd like one of them to run Ant under Java6, rather than the default (which is Java5 in my environment). In the project configuration view, I was hoping to find either: An explicit option allowing me to set a custom JDK location to use for this project. A way to set custom environment variables for this project, which would allow me to set JAVA_HOME to the JDK6 location. The would make Ant pick up and run on Java6 as desired. Is there a way to do either of the above? If one of those facilities is available, I can't see how to access it. I'm running on Hudson 1.285. I would rather avoid using an "execute shell" operation instead of the "invoke Ant" operation if possible: my slave is on z/OS and Hudson doesn't seem to create the temporary shell scripts properly on this platform (probably an encoding issue).

  Hi, ok, I managed to read from xml file using NSXMLParser but now i don't know how to write to xml file. I have a xml file , say <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <root> <user id="abcd" password="pass1"/> <user id="efg" password="pass2"/> </root> Now when a new user enters details, I want to store them in a new tag.. lets say like, the id is "hhhh" and password is"pass3" I want to add a new tag with attributes as such <user id="hhhh" password="pass3"/> to the xml file. • iPhone: Try to send html code to a php script (but fail)

  Hello all, I am trying this for an iPhone app in Xcode: create html code for a website on the fly sending it to a php-script and getting the response with this code: NSError * error = [[[NSError alloc]init]autorelease]; NSURL * phpURL = [NSURL URLWithString: @"http://www.mydomain.com/myscript.php?mywebsite= (...websitestring...) ];NSString * myResponse = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:phpURL encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]; It does not work. It should not be a problem of the php code because when I replace the websitestring which contains the html code with "hello" or something, this is accepted. (the script then creates a file "test.html" with the content I sent.) But when I put html code in it, I always get the error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=256 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (Cocoa error 256.)"   Hi everyone, I have been working on a simple text editor in Cocoa/Objective-C for a practice project and I have come across an error that I would never have expected. I have an NSString for my file's contents as well as an NSString for it's path. When I attempt to write the contents to a file, I use the following method: [FileContents writeToFile: CurrentFileName atomically: NO encoding: NSStringEncoding error: nil]; I've used this method many times without error yet today, I am getting an error: "Expected expression before 'NSStringEncoding'" If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.   I am creating a website where you "post", and the form content is saved in a MySql database, and upon loading the page, is retrieved, similar to facebook. I construct all the posts and insert raw html into a template. The thing is, as I was testing, I noticed that I could write javascript or other HTML into the form and submit it, and upon reloading, the html or JS would treated as source code, not a post. I figured that some simple encoding would do the trick, but using is not working. Is there an efficient way to prevent this type of security hole?

  Everybody knows that java IO is blocking, and java NIO is non-blocking. In IO you will have to use the thread per client pattern, in NIO you can use one thread for all clients. Now my question follows: is it possible to make a non-blocking design using only the Java IO api. (not NIO) I was thinking about a pattern like this (obviously very simplified); List<Socket> li; for (Socket s : li) { InputStream in = s.getInputStream(); byte[] data = in.available(); in.read(data); // processData(data); (decoding packets, encoding outgoing packets } Also note that the client will always be ready for reading data. What are your opinions on this? Will this be suitable for a server that should at least hold a few hundred of clients without major performance issues?

• Print unique ascii characters in eclipse console

  Hey guys, Kind of a strange question but... here it goes. Recently my application threw an IOException that the text only had a clubs symbol in it (like the suit in cards) I know this is probably because there was a number in there that was cast to a char and printed to the screen, and I've found where that might have happened. The only problem is, I can't recreate it in eclipse because the eclipse console doesn't want to print those characters for me. All I get are boxes. I figure this is an encoding issue or something but I need eclipse to print out those characters just like the windows console would. Is there a setting I can change to do this?

• How to handle #(hash) character in SEO friendly url?

  How do you bypass the default behaviour if #(hash) which is to go to a specific part of a page? The problem that I have is that the # character is a part of the SEO friendly url which is a title and the #(hash) is part of the content (i.e. like with C#). I can't retrieve the whole string and I only get the characters before the #. Example: www.domain.com/C#-programming-book in this example I only get 'C' and not the '-programming-book' part. I am not using any javascript at the moment and would like to only use a PHP solution for this. Before anyone suggests that I used url encoding, the criteria for the seo friendly url is that it should be human readable and easily remembered. So converting the hash to '%23' does not pass the criteria. Is there no way around it?

  I have an array where the order of the objects is important for when I finally output the array in a document. However, I'm also sorting the array in a function to find the highest value. The problem is that I after I run the function to find the highest value, I can't get the original sort order of the array back. // html document var data = [75,300,150,500,200]; createGraph(data); // js document function createGraph(data) { var maxRange = getDataRange(data); // simpleEncode() = google encoding function for graph var dataSet = simpleEncode(data,maxRange); } function getDataRange(dataArray) { var num = dataArray.sort(sortNumber); return num[0]; } I've also tried setting data to dataA and dataB and using dataB in the getDataRange function and dataA in the simpleEncode function. Either way, data always end up being sorted from highest to lowest.

• XSLT ... I can'f find a (working) find minimum value in XML and set variable

  I've search for hours and not found an example that allows for the very first position to be the lowest. I'm getting 'False' instead of the value returned .... EDIT: Oddly enough if I run a 2nd instance as MAX_Landed with ascending it returns a value just fine. If I switch the order in the XSLT the first instance will return 'False' and the 2nd will work. Hope I'm making sense ..... • Loading Unmanaged C++ in C#. Error Attempted to read or write protected memory

  I have a C++ function that looks like this __declspec(dllexport) int ___stdcall RegisterPerson(char const * const szName) { std::string copyName( szName ); // Assign name to a google protocol buffer object // Psuedo code follows.. Protobuf::Person person; person->set_name(copyName); // Error Occurs here... std::cerr << person->DebugString() << std::endl; } The corresponding C# code looks like this... [DllImport(@"MyLibrary.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static unsafe extern int RegisterPerson([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)]string szName) Not sure why this is not working. My C++ library is compiled as Multi Threaded DLL with MultiByte encoding. Any help would be appreciated. I saw this is a common problem online but no answers lead me to a solution for my problem.
