    Hello there. I have a set of code, which mimics a basic library cataloging system. There is a base class named items, in which the the general id,title and year variables are defined and 3 other derived classes (DVD,Book and CD). Base [Items] Derived [DVD,Book,CD]. The programs runs, however I get the following warnings, I'm not sure how to fix these. I configure my application setting once, while the application start, I configure the application setting with appropriate reader (DbReader or PropertiesReader), I make it singleton. The problem is, when some user edit the database or file directly to database or file, I can't get the changed values. Now, I want to implement something like ApplicationSettingChangeListener. So if the data changes, I will refresh my application settings. Do you have any suggestions how this can be implemented?

    e.g. The code below throws a ClassCastException when the second Object is added to the TreeSet. Couldn't TreeSet have been written so that the type parameter can only be a Comparable type? i.e. TreeSet would not compile because Object is not Comparable.     Hi all, this must be quite simple but I am having great difficulty. You see I am trying to find a string within another string as follows. e = input.indexOf("-->"); s = input.indexOf("<!--"); input = input.replace(input.substring(s, e + 3), " "); The integers e and s are returning -1 in that it was not found and this is causing the replace method to fail. The test string I am using is "Chartered Certified<!--lol--> Accountants (ACCA)". I tried to creat a new string object and pass in the string as an argument as follows e=input.indexOf(new String("<!--")); This yielded the same result. Any ideas ?

    I need to implement a method that takes an address split up into individual parts and returns any matching items from an address table. If no matches are found, I want to be able to return a value indicating where it failed. Each input param has a corresponding field in the table. The signature would look something like this: List<Address> MatchAddress(string zipCode, string streetName, string houseNumber, string houseLetter, string floor, string appartmentNo, out int mismatchPosition) { // return matching addresses // if none found, return the position where it stopped matching // zipCode is position 0, appartmentNo is position 5 // // an empty param value indicates "don't check" } I know I can construct the method such that I start with all the parameters, execute the query and then remove param by param (from the right side) until either a match is found or I run out of parameters, but can I construct a query that is more effective than that, i.e minimizing the number of calls to the db, maybe even as a single call?

  • Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture not working consistently

    I've been working on a pet project on the weekends to learn more about C# and have encountered an odd problem when working with localization. To be more specific, the problem I have is with System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture. I've set up my app so that the user can quickly change the language of the app by clicking a menu item. The menu item in turn, saves the two-letter code for the language (e.g. "en", "fr", etc.) in a user setting called 'Language' and then restarts the application. Properties.Settings.Default.Language = "en"; Properties.Settings.Default.Save(); Application.Restart(); When the application is started up, the first line of code in the Form's constructor (even before InitializeComponent()) fetches the Language string from the settings and sets the CurrentUICulture like so: public Form1() { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo(Properties.Settings.Default.Language); InitializeComponent(); } The thing is, this doesn't work consistently. Sometimes, all works well and the application loads the correct language based on the string saved in the settings file. Other times, it doesn't, and the language remains the same after the application is restarted. At first I thought that I didn't save the language before restarting the application but that is definitely not the case. When the correct language fails to load, if I were to close the application and run it again, the correct language would come up correctly. So this implies that the Language string has been saved but the CurrentUICulture assignment in my form constructor is having no effect sometimes. Any help? Is there something I'm missing of how threading works in C#? This could be machine-specific, so if it makes any difference I'm using Pentium Dual-Core CPU. UPDATE Vlad asked me to check what the CurrentThread's CurrentUICulture is. So I added a MessageBox on my constructor to tell me what the CurrentUICulture two-letter code is as well as the value of my Language user string. MessageBox.Show(string.Format("Current Language: {0}\nCurrent UI Culture: {1}", Properties.Settings.Default.Language, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.TwoLetterISOLanguageName)); When the wrong language is loaded, both the Language string and CurrentUICulture have the wrong language. So I guess the CurrentUICulture has been cleared and my problem is actually with the Language Setting. So I guess the problem is that my application sometimes loads the previously saved language string rather than the last saved language string. If the app is restarted, it will then load the actual saved language string.

    I have written a Java web application that allows a user to download files from a server. These files are quite large and so are zipped together before download. It works like this: 1. The user gets a list of files that match his/her criteria 2. If the user likes a file and wants to download he/she selects it by checking a checkbox 3. The user then clicks "download" 4. The files are then zipped and stored on a server 5. The user this then presented with a page which contains a link to the downloadable zip file 6. However on downloading the zip file the file that is downloaded is 0 bytes in size I have checked the remote server and the zip file is being created properly, all that is left is to serve the file the user somehow, can you see where I might be going wrong, or suggest a better way to serve the zip file.   • Symfony 1.3 and forms: the password changes when i click on 'Save', why??

    Hi, i have installed sfDoctrineGuardUser and have created this model that inherits sfGuardUser model: Usuario: inheritance: extends: sfGuardUser type: simple columns: nombre_apellidos: string(60) sexo: boolean fecha_nac: date provincia: string(60) localidad: string(255) email_address: string(255) avatar: string(255) avatar_mensajes: string(255) I have also created a module called 'miembros' based on that model. Well, I log normally through sfGuardAuth/signin, then i go to "miembros/edit/id/$id_of_the_member_i_used_to_log_in" and push 'Save' button. Then i logout. If i try to log in again, it says: "The username and/or password is invalid". Later, i have realized that when click 'Save' the value of the field 'password' changes (well its encrypted version). So that is the reason why i can not then log in. But, why the value of the password change when i click on 'Save' ??? Regards Javi

  • error loading (TypeLoadException) on asp.net/xsp/mono on debian/opensuse

    When i reset apache and load my website i get the first error below. I have no idea what the problem is. If i reload the page again (without restarting apache) i get the 2nd error, probably because the first error occurred and BaseUser is the first class/func that Application_Start uses. Why am i getting this load exception? Whats messed up is i tried using mono's VMWare img to debug it and i got the very same exception (until i restarted which now refuses to give me anything but 404 errors). However when i use mono develop to run the project the site runs PERFECT. WTF. Any ideas? Server Error in '/' Application A type load exception has occurred. Description: HTTP 500.   • Access Edit Mode Values of BindingSource Control

    I have a BindingSource control (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.bindingsource.aspx) with a datasource of a (single) Linq object. If I change any of the properties of the underlying Linq-to-Sql object then all the other changes on the bound controls on the form are lost. Does anyone now why and how I work around it? I don't want to call EndEdit because this will commit the changes to the underlying object. I think this might be because my underlying object linq-to-sql object does not implement IEditableObject so the potental new values for the object fields are sort of stored in the forms controls. Can anyone either clarify what is going on and/or suggest a work around. Thanks!

    Ok here is my problem : Before i start the description, let me to tell you that I have googled up a lot and I am posting this question for a good optimal solution :) i am building a rest service on WCF to get userProfiles... the user can filter userProfiles by giving something like userProfiles?location=London now i have the following method GetUserProfiles(string firstname, string lastname, string age, string location) the sql query string i built is: select firstname, lastname, .... from profiles where (firstName like '%{firstname}%') AND (lastName like '%{lastName}%') ....and so on with all variables being replaced by string formatter. Problem with this is that it filters any row having firstname, lastname, age or location having a null value.... doing something like (firstName like '%{firstName}%' OR firstName IS NULL) would be tedious and the statement would become unmaintanable! (in this example there are only 4 arguments, but in my actual method there are 10) What would be the best solution for this?....How is this situation usually handled? Database used : MySql

    Authlogin by default is supposed to auto login when the user's persistence token changes. I set it up before without STI and it worked so I'm wondering why once I put in place this hierarchy, it fails. Thanks!

    Hello All, I am working with some legacy code, and at some point there is a key in the session that is something like session.setAttribute("com.org.something.Object",someObject); Now trying to access this in a jsp using jstl is a bit difficult becuase if I tried it like I normally would I would do: ${sessionScope.com.org.something.Object.someFieldGetter} As most of us can imagine it will fail because there is no com object in session scope. I also tried ${sessionScope.'com.org.something.Object'.someFieldGetter} And a parsing error was thrown. Does anyone know how to resolve this so that I can correctly get the object similar to session.getAttribute("com.org.something.Object") but through jstl? thank you.
