  • How to refresh parent and ancestor windows afret colsing the child windows?

    Hi, I have three windows: 1st - main window 2nd - child window - it's opened using window.showModalDialog from 1st widnow. 3rd - window - is an ancestor of 1st widnow and is's opened from 2nd widnow using window.showModalDialog. And now what I need to achivie is to open 1, 2 and 3 window. Next after closing the 3rd one, refrest the 2nd one. And after closing the 2nd one, refresh the 1st one. But there is one more assumption, I don't want to have any postback during this proces. Dose anybody have any idea how to make it?

" Why to use: document.body.foo = 52; can result a memory leak -or in what conditions- so that I should use jQuery.data(document.body, 'foo', 52); Should I ALWAYS prefer .data() instead of using expandos in any case?     I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

    I have a Backbone.js collection that I would like to be able to sort using jQuery UI's Sortable. Nothing fancy, I just have a list that I would like to be able to sort. The problem is that I'm not sure how to get the current order of items after being sorted and communicate that to the collection. Sortable can serialize itself, but that won't give me the model data I need to give to the collection. Ideally, I'd like to be able to just get an array of the current order of the models in the collection and use the reset method for the collection, but I'm not sure how to get the current order. Please share any ideas or examples for getting an array with the current model order.

    I am using the jQuery Cloud Zoom Plugin and i need to add the "mouseenter" or "mouseover" event to activate the zoom when the user put the mouse over the thumbs. So i have made this change in the line 359 of the file cloud-zoom.1.0.2.js (Version 1.0.2) $(this).bind('mouseenter click', $(this) ... It works, but if i pass the mouse quickly over the thumbs the "Loading" text doesn't disapear. Someone knows what i have to change to solve this? Thanks for any help!

    i am trying to make the preloading work in such a way that the components i wish to preload start to load after successfully loading the page. for example, i have index.php. i want it to load up completely. as soon as it loads up i want to start loading the other components. to make things clear. i have a nav that makes use of large size images. if i load them along with the index.php file, it would increase load up time of the page. i wish for those large images to load after completely rendering index.php? am i making sense? is it possible?

  • Chrome Extension: How to display tab objects?

    I am in the process of designing an extension for Google Chrome that helps to organize tabs (I know, there are many that already exist; that doesn't matter). I wish to open a popup window that will display tabs as objects (i.e., in the same way that it is displayed in the tab bar at the top of the browser). One way of doing this would be to pull various details (ID, Title, URL, etc.) from each tab, create a class and make instantiations of it upon the opening of each tab using these data, but this seems rather convoluted considering that what I want is sitting right there in the tab bar. Is there any simpler way to achieve this? In addition, I have seen several apps that utilize page previews. Is there something in the API that allows direct access to these?

  • Passing unknown amounts of variables using through a string string and eval and multiple functions a

    I'm not sure how best to describe this problem... In short, I want to use object literal to allow me to pass a random amount of variables in any order to a function. Whilst this is not big deal in theory, in my code, this object literal is passed to a second function call on_change. on_change works comparing an element inner HTML to a string. if it is the same, it sets a time out of to call the function again (this is sort of/almost recursive, but the function dose actually get to end before it is called again). if the elements inner HTML is different from the string, then the third parameter is executed. this will either be a function or a string. either way it will execute. I have tested this function plenty and used it for a while now. how ever, it cannot seem to get the object literal to flow through the function calls... var params = { xpos:'false'}; on_change('window_3_cont_buffer','',' if(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[0].innerHTML == \'ERROR\'){ alert(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[1].innerHTML); return false; } else { Window_manager.windows[3].load_xml(\'location/view.php?location_ID=3\', \'\', ' + params + ' ); } '); I call this as part of the form submission. after this line, I then call a function to load some content via ajax, which works fine and will trigger the code from the on_change function. I have tested load_xml function it is able to call alert(param.xpos) and get the correct response. I can even added in a check for being undefined so that rest of the times I cam load_xml I don't get swamped with alerts. The load_xml function first set up the on_change function, then calls the function to load the content to a hidden div. Once the AJAX request has updated that DIV, the on_change function should now call the parse_xml function. This pulls out the information from the xml file. How ever... The idea of this object literal param is that it can tell this parse_xml function to ignore certain things. on_change("window_" + this.id + "_cont_buffer", "", "Window_manager.windows[" + this.id + "].parse_xml('" + param + "')"); this is part of load_xml. it works perfectly fine, even with the param bit in there. except, parse_xml dose not seem to be able to use that parameter. I have been able to get it to a point where parse_xml can alert(param) and give [object object] which I would of thought meant that the object litteral had been passed through, but when I try and call alert(param.xpos) I get undefined. I know this is a pig of a problem, and I could get around it by just having the function take a zillion boolean parameters, but its just not practical or elegant. I'm sure you will need to ask me plenty more questions before I can solve this. I will post more complete code, I just cut it down to what is actually going on. Thanks

    Hi all. I would like to programmaticaly determine the DPI of a user's display in order to show a web page at a precise number of units (centimeters/inches). I know it a weird request: it's for a visualization research project and it's kind of a control. We currently do it by having the user place a credit card to the screen and match a resizable div (via Mootools) to the real credit card, and voila we can get the DPI and display the page correctly. Can anyone think of a programmatic way to do this?

  • Get status of servlet request before the response is returned

    Good evening, I am in the process of writing a Java Servlet (Struts 2, Tomcat, JSP etc) which is capable of doing some fairly complex simulations. These can take up to 2 minutes to complete on the and will return a graph of the results. It is trivial to calculate the percentage of the simulation completed because the process works by repeating the same calculations 1000s of times. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever tried to use client side technology to provide any estimate of the percentage complete. I.e query the servlet processing to get the number of cycles completed at various point throughout the simulation. This could then be displayed as a bar in the client browser. Any thoughts, advice, resources would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alex

  • Raphael Scope Drag n drop multiple paper instances

    I have two Raphael paper instances. In both I want to drag and drop an element (circle). It is important for me to assign both these circles the same id. I expected no problem, as both are in different paper instances and therefore in different scope. What happens is, that somehow both elements react, when I have clicked both elements at least once. If I however give these elements different IDs everything works fine (each element only calls its "start", "drag" and "up" function if draged around). Is this intended behaviour of Raphael and do I have to assign different IDs to the elements in the different paper instances?     Hi, I'm doing an eshop with goods displayed as "tiles" in grid as usual. I just want to use various sizes of tiles and make sure (via jQuery) there are no free spaces. In basic situation, I have a 960px wrapper and want to use 240x180px (class .grid_4) tiles and 480x360px (class .grid_8) tiles. Also small tiles to the left from the big one need to be wrapped in another div so that they appear in column rather than row. Now finally the questions: how to generalize the function so that I can use even more tile dimensions like 720x360 (3x2), 480x540 (2x3), etc.? is there a way to simplify the function? I need to make sure that big tile counts as a multiple of small tiles when checking the actual position. Because using index() on the tile on position 12 (last tile in 3rd row) would now return 7 (position 8) because tiles on positions 5 and 9 are wrapped together in one culumn and the big tile is also just a single div, but spans 2x2 positions. any clean way to ensure this?
