• Is hidden content (display: none;) -indexed- by search engines? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How bad is it to use display: none in CSS? We've established on this site before (in this question) that, since there are so many legitimate uses for hiding content with display: none; when creating interactive features, that sites aren't automatically penalised for content that is hidden this way (so long as it doesn't look algorithmically spammy). Google's Webmaster guidelines also make clear that a good practice when using content that is initially legitimately hidden for interactivity purposes is to also include the same content in a <noscript> tag, and Google recommend that if you design and code for users including users with screen readers or javascript disabled, then 9 times out of 10 good relevant search rankings will follow (though their specific advice seems more written for cases where javascript writes new content to the page). JavaScript: Place the same content from the JavaScript in a tag. If you use this method, ensure the contents are exactly the same as what’s contained in the JavaScript, and that this content is shown to visitors who do not have JavaScript enabled in their browser. So, best practice seems pretty clear. What I can't find out is, however, the simple factual matter of whether hidden content is indexed by search engines (but with potential penalties if it looks 'spammy'), or, whether it is ignored, or, whether it is indexed but with a lower weighting (like <noscript> content is, apparently). (for bonus points it would be great to know if this varies or is consistent between display: none;, visibility: hidden;, etc, but that isn't crucial). This is different to the other questions on display:none; and SEO - those are about good and bad practice and the answers are discussions of good and bad practice, I'm interested simply in the factual 'Yes or no' question of whether search engines index, or ignore, content that is in display: none; - something those other questions' answers aren't totally clear on. One other question has an answer, "Yes", supported by a link to an article that doesn't really clear things up: it establishes that search engines can spot that text is hidden, it discusses (again) whether hidden text causes sites to be marked as spam, and ultimately concludes that in mid 2011, Google's policy on hidden text was evolving, and that they hadn't at that time started automatically penalising display:none; or marking it as spam. It's clear that display: none; isn't always spam and isn't always treated as spam (many Google sites use it...): but this doesn't clear up how, or if, it is indexed. What I will do will be to follow the guidelines and make sure that all the content that is initially hidden which regular users can explore using javascript-driven interactivity is also structured in way that noscript/screenreader users can use. So I'm not interested in best practice, opinions etc because best practice seems to be really clear: accessibility best practices boosts SEO. But I'd like to know what exactly will happen: whether any display: none; content I have alongside <noscript> or otherwise accessibility-optimised content will be be ignored, or indexed again, or picked up to compare against the <noscript> content but not indexed... etc.

• WPF MVVM ComboBox SelectedItem or SelectedValue not working

  Update After a bit of investigating. What seems to be the issue is that the SelectedValue/SelectedItem is occurring before the Item source is finished loading. If I sit in a break point and weight a few seconds it works as expected. Don't know how I'm going to get around this one. End Update I have an application using in WPF using MVVM with a ComboBox. Below is the ViewModel Example. The issue I'm having is when we leave our page and migrate back the ComboBox is not selecting the current Value that is selected. View Model public class MyViewModel { private MyObject _selectedObject; private Collection<Object2> _objects; private IModel _model; public MyViewModel(IModel model) { _model = model; _objects = _model.GetObjects(); } public Collection<MyObject> Objects { get { return _objects; } private set { _objects = value; } } public MyObject SelectedObject { get { return _selectedObject; } set { _selectedObject = value; } } } For the sake of this example lets say MyObject has two properties (Text and Id). My XAML for the ComboBox looks like this. XAML <ComboBox Name="MyComboBox" Height="23" Width="auto" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedObject,Mode=TwoWay}" ItemsSource="{Binding Objects}" DisplayMemberPath="Text" SelectedValuePath="Id"> No matter which way I configure this when I come back to the page and the object is reassembled the ComboBox will not select the value. The object is returning the correct object via the get in the property though. I'm not sure if this is just an issue with the way the ComboBox and MVVM pattern works. The text box binding we are doing works correctly.

• Overlay WPF controls

  Hello I've written an 'auto-suggest' textbox user control in WPF. It behaves a little bit like the 'To' list in Hotmail, allowing the user to enter a list of items, offering suggestions when it is able. The main controls are a a text box, a wrap panel and a list box. The text box captures user input. The wrap panel contains the text box and shows previous entries. The list box is used to show suggestions. Most of the time, the list box is hidden. I'm using multiple instances of my control in a stack panel. My problem is that when the list box is shown, it is included in the measurement of the height of the control. This forces the following controls in the stack panel to be shifted down, as these pictures demonstrate: I've tried overriding the measurement of my control so not to include the list box, but this just results in the list box not being visible. What I want to do is make the list box overlay any subsequent controls in the stack panel, like a combo box's drop down would do. However, I really don't know how to do this. Any ideas? Thanks Sandy

• Using Perl WWW::Facebook::API to Publish To Facebook Newsfeed

  We use Facebook Connect on our site in conjunction with the WWW::Facebook::API CPAN module to publish to our users newsfeed when requested by the user. So far we've been able to successfully update the user's status using the following code: use WWW::Facebook::API; my $facebook = WWW::Facebook::API->new( desktop => 0, api_key => $fb_api_key, secret => $fb_secret, session_key => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_session_key'), session_expires => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_expires'), session_uid => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_user') ); my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, ); However, when we try to update the code above so we can publish newsfeed stories that include attachments and action links as specified in the Facebook API documentation for Stream.Publish, we have tried about 100 different ways without any success. • Paragraph formatting in a WPF RichTextBox?

  I need to apply paragraph formatting to a selection in a rich text box. My RTB will behave the same way as the rich text boxes on StackOverflow--the user can type text into the RTB, but they can also enter code blocks. The RTB will apply very simple formatting to the code block--it will change the font and apply a background color to the entire block, similar to what you see in the code block below. Changing the font is pretty straightforward: var textRange = new TextRange(rtb.Selection.Start, rtb.Selection.End); textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.FontFamilyProperty, "Consolas"); textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.FontSizeProperty, 10D ); Now I need to apply some paragraph-level formatting. I need to set the paragraph margin to 0, so I don't get a blank line between code lines, and I need to set the paragraph background color. Here's my problem: I can't figure out how to get the paragraph elements from the selection, so that I can apply formatting. Any suggestions? An example of how to apply the Margin and Background properties would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

The user is able to navigate from cell to cell within the matrix and I would like to highlight the data in the selected textbox but it doesn't work. I called TextBox.Focus () and TextBox.SelectAll () to achieve the effect but nothing. The Focus () works but the text never gets highlighted. Any help is welcome and appreciated.

• jQuery jqGrid TreeGrid not functionining properly

  Hello. I am having trouble constructing a jqGrid TreeGrid using local data.   I am trying to install Pylucene (pylucene-3.3-3-src.tar.gz) on my ubuntu linux 11.10. I have python 2.7.2. I was able to compile JCC (I think) because I didnt see any error when I installed it. • Reducing WPF binding boilerplate with styles - updating the bindings themselves via styling?

  I'm still learning the WPF ropes, so if the following question is trivial or my approach wrong-headed, please do speak up... I'm trying to reduce boilerplate and it sounds like styles are a common way to do so. In particular: I've got a bunch of fairly mundane data-entry fields. The controls for these fields have various properties I'd like to set based on the target of the binding - pretty normal stuff. However, I'd also like to set properties of the binding itself in the style to avoid repetitiveness. For example: <TextBox Style="{StaticResource myStyle}"> <TextBox.Text> <Binding Path="..." Source="..." ValidatesOnDataErrors="True" ValidatesOnExceptions="True" UpdateSourceTrigger="PropertyChanged"> </Binding> </TextBox.Text> </TextBox> Now, is there any way to use styling - or some other technique to write the previous example somewhat like this: <TextBox Style="{StaticResource myStyle}" Text="{Binding Source=... Path=...}/> That is, is there any way to set all bindings that match a particular selection (here, on controls with the myStyle style) to validate data and to use a particular update trigger? Is it possible to template or style bindings themselves? Clearly, the second syntax is much, much shorter and more readable, and I'd love to be able to get rid of other similar boilerplate to keep my UI code comprehensible to myself :-).

• axis2 web service behave differently when tested with web service client or with local test class

  Hello I need to update a facade to some web service proxy classes to a third party web service, and expose them as a service. This for two reason : to maintain the same interface for all application that need to use the system : actually its migrating and there are a few differences in the third party ws (method names); and to expose a simplified interface. The third party has provided me with a manual and some pregenerated proxy classes to their service (the java file says generated with axis2 1,4) . I've used netbeans 6.8 and the axis2 plugin to create an axis2 service . This service contains the proxy classes and the facade class which instantiate the web service proxy and calls its method; the facade class is exposed as service. I've used axis2 1.4 (at beginnig and later 1.5 ) and tomcat 6.0. The first test i did was to call the facede methods from inside the project itself and it worked. Then i've created a new project with a jax-ws web service client to call my class deployed on axis2. At this point has happened two strange thing : In the axis2 services page has appeared the third party proxy class as if it were a new service (if i try to get the wsdl axis raises an error ). eg. the proxy interface is named WebServiceAPI (_stub is the concrete class) and , after the first call to my service , i find a new "WebServicesAPI1272968932531_1" service inside axis .   I'm still learning the WPF ropes, so if the following question is trivial or my approach wrong-headed, please do speak up... I'm trying to reduce boilerplate and it sounds like styles are a common way to do so. In particular: I've got a bunch of fairly mundane data-entry fields. The controls for these fields have various properties I'd like to set based on the target of the binding - pretty normal stuff. However, I'd also like to set properties of the binding itself in the style to avoid repetitiveness. For example: <TextBox Style="{StaticResource myStyle}"> <TextBox.Text> <Binding Path="..." Source="..." ValidatesOnDataErrors="True" ValidatesOnExceptions="True" UpdateSourceTrigger="PropertyChanged"> </Binding> </TextBox.Text> </TextBox> Now, is there any way to use styling - or some other technique to write the previous example somewhat like this: <TextBox Style="{StaticResource myStyle}" Text="{Binding Source=... Path=...}/> That is, is there any way to set all bindings that match a particular selection (here, on controls with the myStyle style) to validate data and to use a particular update trigger? Is it possible to template or style bindings themselves? Alternatively, is it possible to add the binding in the style itself? Clearly, the second syntax is much, much shorter and more readable, and I'd love to be able to get rid of other similar boilerplate to keep my UI code comprehensible to myself :-).

• Android - Using PreferenceScreen to display and save settings to/from ContentProvider

  I have my own custom Content Provider that loads a datasbase which contains the settings information for my application. I load the settings from the ContentProvider on the creation of my Settings activity. My Settings activity is made up of a PreferenceScreen and Dialog based EditText's. The following code shows how I use the preference screen and edit texts. So as you can see from the first image this works and displays the menu with the information underneath. The problem is in image two, when I click on a choice in the menu the dialog pops up but it is empty, I would like to be able to load the data from my content provider into the edit text in the dialog, so in image one it shows "Donal" as the user name so in image two "Donal" should also appear in the edit text in the dialog. I would also like to be able to listen to the OK button in the dialog so when a user changes a setting I can update the data in my content provider. Can anyone help me with what I'm trying to do? • JQuery BlockUI with UpdatePanel Viewstate Issue

  I am using BlockUI to show a modal. Within the blocked modal I have an update panel. Within the update panel I have a textbox and a button that submits the content back to the server. Everything works fine up to this point (the blockUI is called, the modal appears, and the button performs the postback). However, when the button's click event is fired the value for the textbox is consistently empty even if text was entered. When the update panel updates the textbox shows up blank. Is the reason why this is not working because XAML binding uses the [] indexer? Rather than properties on the CompanyRows in my DataTable? At the moment im getting values such as - TGS - 3 - TGS - 4 Any ideas? Edit: I still can't get this to work, What would be the best way to accomplish this? Make a converter to convert foreign keys using Table being referenced as custom parameter. Create Table View for each table? This would be long winded as I have quite a large number of tables that have foreign keys.

• Label in PyQt4 GUI not updating with every loop of FOR loop

  I'm having a problem, where I wish to run several command line functions from a python program using a GUI. I don't know if my problem is specific to PyQt4 or if it has to do with my bad use of python code. What I wish to do is have a label on my GUI change its text value to inform the user which command is being executed. My problem however, arises when I run several commands using a for loop. I would like the label to update itself with every loop, however, the program is not updating the GUI label with every loop, instead, it only updates itself once the entire loop is completed, and displays only the last command that was executed. I am using PyQt4 for my GUI environment. And I have established that the text variable for the label is indeed being updated with every loop, but, it is not actually showing up visually in the GUI. Is there a way for me to force the label to update itself? I have tried the update() and repaint() methods within the loop, but they don't make any difference. I would really appreciate any help.
