My goal is to eventually build a table of status data and output it on the page is this the wrong way to use the property tag? Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Are upper bounds of indexed ranges always assumed to be exclusive?

    - by polygenelubricants
    So in Java, whenever an indexed range is given, the upper bound is almost always exclusive. From java.lang.String: substring(int beginIndex, int endIndex) Returns a new string that is a substring of this string. The substring begins at the specified beginIndex and extends to the character at index endIndex - 1 From java.util.Arrays: copyOfRange(T[] original, int from, int to) from - the initial index of the range to be copied, inclusive to - the final index of the range to be copied, exclusive. From java.util.BitSet: set(int fromIndex, int toIndex) fromIndex - index of the first bit to be set. toIndex - index after the last bit to be set. As you can see, it does look like Java tries to make it a consistent convention that upper bounds are exclusive. My questions are: Is this the official authoritative recommendation? Are there notable violations that we should be wary of? Is there a name for this system? (ala "0-based" vs "1-based")

  • C# type safe and developer friendly list/collection technique

    - by Agile Noob
    I am populating a "Dictionary" with the results of an sp call. The key is the field name and the value is whatever value the sp returns for the field. This is all well and good but I'd like developers to have a predefined list of keys to access this list, for safety and documentation reasons. What I'd like to do is have something like an enum as a key for the dictionary so developers can safely access the list, but still have the ability to access the dictionary with a string key value. I am hoping to have a list of string values that I can access with an enum key AND a string key. Please make sure any suggestions are simple to implement, this is not the kind of thing I'm willing to build a lot of overhead to implement.

  • Custom sort logic in OrderBy using LINQ

    - by Bala R
    What would be the right way to sort a list of strings where I want items starting with an underscore '_', to be at the bottom of the list, otherwise everything is alphabetical. Right now I'm doing something like this, autoList.OrderBy(a => a.StartsWith("_") ? "ZZZZZZ"+a : a ) EDIT: I ended up using something like this; optimization suggestions welcome! private class AutoCompleteComparer : IComparer<String> { public int Compare(string x, string y) { if (x.StartsWith("_") && y.StartsWith("_") || (!x.StartsWith("_") && !y.StartsWith("_"))) { return x.CompareTo(y); } else if (x.StartsWith("_")) { return 1; } else if (y.StartsWith("_")) { return -1; } return 0; } }

  • SimpleInjector - Register a type for all it's interfaces

    - by Karl Cassar
    Is it possible to register a type for all it's implementing interfaces? E.g, I have a: public class Bow : IWeapon { #region IWeapon Members public string Attack() { return "Shooted with a bow"; } #endregion } public class HumanFighter { private readonly IWeapon weapon = null; public HumanFighter(IWeapon weapon) { this.weapon = weapon; } public string Fight() { return this.weapon.Attack(); } } [Test] public void Test2b() { Container container = new Container(); container.RegisterSingle<Bow>(); container.RegisterSingle<HumanFighter>(); // this would match the IWeapon to the Bow, as it // is implemented by Bow var humanFighter1 = container.GetInstance<HumanFighter>(); string s = humanFighter1.Fight(); }

  • Referral System PHP

    - by Liam
    I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached? Thanks

    - by owca
    In my database I have a form for searching products (fields : id, name, manufacturer_id[set to display manufacturer's name], category_id, price). I would like to have the ability of adding manufacturers through this form. So I've created vba script but it does not work. If MsgBox(strInfo, vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Element not on the list") = vbYes Then strSQL = "INSERT INTO manufacturer (name, country, id_distributor) VALUES ('" & NewData & "','Undefined', '0');" DoCmd.SetWarnings (False) DoCmd.RunSQL strSQL Response = acDataErrAdded Else Response = acDataErrContinue NewData = "" Me.manufacturer_id.Text = "" End If End Sub

  • C#: Basic Reflection Class

    - by Mike
    I'm trying to find a basic reflection abstract class that will generate basic information about a class. I have a template of how I would like it to work: class ThreeList<string,Type,T> { string Name {get; set;} Type Type {get; set;} T Value {get; set;} } abstract class Reflect<T> { List<ThreeList<string, Type, T> list; ReturnType MethodName() { foreach (System.Reflection.PropertyInfo prop in this.GetType().GetProperties()) { object value = prop.GetValue(this, new object[] { }); list.Add(prop.Name, prop.DeclaringType, value); } } } I'd like it to be infinitely deep, recursively calling Reflect. Something like this has to exist. I'm not really opposed to coding it myself, I just don't want to go through the hassle if its already been done.

  • Pass structured data from C++ app to ASP.NET web service.

    - by Odrade
    I have Visual C++ application that needs to communicate with a ASP.NET web service. Specifically, the app needs to pass structured data (e.g. objects that contain lists of structures, etc) as a parameter to one of the service methods. The C++ application is already generating an xml document that contains this data. The document is generating using an xml library, so it should always well-formed. What is a good method for passing this data to the web service? I'm thinking about passing the document to the web service as a string parameter, then deserializing to a .NET object based on an xsd. But, I hear that passing an xml doc as a string parameter is not recommended. So, my questions: What are the pitfalls associated with sending the document as a string parameter, assuming that the document itself is always well-formed? Assuming the above is a bad idea, what are some good alternate approaches?

  • Overloading on return type ???

    - by Green Hyena
    scala> val shares = Map("Apple" -> 23, "MicroSoft" -> 50, "IBM" -> 17) shares: scala.collection.immutable.Map[java.lang.String,Int] = Map(Apple -> 23, MicroSoft -> 50, IBM -> 17) scala> val shareholders = shares map {_._1} shareholders: scala.collection.immutable.Iterable[java.lang.String] = List(Apple, MicroSoft, IBM) scala> val newShares = shares map {case(k, v) => (k, 1.5 * v)} newShares: scala.collection.immutable.Map[java.lang.String,Double] = Map(Apple -> 34.5, MicroSoft -> 75.0, IBM -> 25.5) From this example it seems like the map method is overloaded on return type. Overloading on return type is not possible right? Would somebody please explain what's going on here?

  • how do I integrate the aspnet_users table (asp.net membership) into my existing database

    - by ooo
    i have a database that already has a users table COLUMNS: userID - int loginName - string First - string Last - string i just installed the asp.net membership table. Right now all of my tables are joined into my users table foreign keyed into the "userId" field How do i integrate asp.net_users table into my schema? here are the ideas i thought of: Add a membership_id field to my users table and on new inserts, include that new field in my users table. This seems like the cleanest way as i dont need to break any existing relationships. break all existing relationship and move all of the fields in my user table into the asp.net_users table. This seems like a pain but ultimately will lead to the most simple, normalized solution any thoughts?

  • How to ignore an exception and continue processing a foreach loop?

    - by Barry Dysert
    I have a test program that is supposed to loop over all the files under C:. It dies when it hits the "Documents and Settings" folder. I'd like to ignore the error and keep looping over the remaining files. The problem is that the exception is thrown in the foreach, so putting a try/catch around the foreach will cause the loop to exit. And putting a try/catch after the foreach never fires (because the exception is thrown in the foreach). Is there any way to ignore the exception and continue processing the loop? Here's the code: static void Main(string[] args) { IEnumerable<string> files = Directory.EnumerateFiles(@"C:\", "*.*", SearchOption.AllDirectories); foreach (string file in files) // Exception occurs when evaluating "file" Console.WriteLine(file); }

  • Get n Number of words using regex in Java

    - by Aymon Fournier
    I have a section of a book, complete with punctuation, line breaks etc. and I want to be able to extract the first n words from the text, and divide that into 5 parts. Regex mystifies me. I creates an array of index size 0, with all the input text: public static String getNumberWords2(String s, int nWords){ String[] m = s.split("([a-zA-Z_0-9]+\b.*?)", (nWords / 5)); return "Part One: \n" + m[1] + "\n\n" + "Part Two: \n" + m[2] + "\n\n" + "Part Three: \n" + m[3] + "\n\n" + "Part Four: \n" + m[4] + "\n\n" + "Part Five: \n" + m[5]; } Thanks!

  • Why have private fields in data contracts modified through public ones?

    - by Nordvind
    When you make a new WCF project, sample service is generated for you. The default data contract is (I've just changed the string type field title): [DataContract] public class CompositeType { bool boolValue = true; string name = ""; [DataMember] public bool BoolValue { get { return boolValue; } set { boolValue = value; } } [DataMember] public string Name { get { return name; } set { name = value; } } } What is the point of having those private fields boolValue and name? Is it a good practice writing some data sanitizing or some other manipulations in contract, thus bloating it? It seems the only sane reason for me not writing to fields directly. So is it a bloatware or it has some reason behind it?

  • DataMapper save fails but with no errors

    - by Justin Bozonier
    When I try to modify and then save a model using DataMapper I get a SaveFailure exception but no errors. Specifically I see this message: "MonthlyBill#save returned false, MonthlyBill was not saved" This is the code doing the saving: post '/monthly_bills' do with_authenticated_user do |user| description = params[:description] expected_amount = params[:expected_amount] pay_period = params[:pay_period] monthly_bill = MonthlyBill.new(:description=>description, :expected_amount=>expected_amount, :pay_period=>pay_period) user.MonthlyBills << monthly_bill user.save end The User model: class User include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :email_address, String property :password, String has n, :MonthlyBills has 1, :CurrentPayPeriod end The MonthlyBill model: class MonthlyBill include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :description, String property :expected_amount,Decimal property :pay_period, Integer belongs_to :user end What is the issue and, more importantly, how can I get DataMapper to tell me more specifically what is wrong?

  • JQuery+Java setting field value with val() + single quote

    - by Fabio K
    I have a problem setting the value of a textarea element with jquery's val(). Basically, I have a JSP file which receives a string parameter called 'text'. Java code: String text = (String) request.getParameter('text'); Now I want my textarea element to receive this text: Javascript code: $('#textarea_id').val('<%=text%>'); It works when my text doesnt contain quotes single quotes (and possibly other chars). For example, for text = test' this error happens: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ILLEGAL $('#textarea_id').val('test''); I hope you guys understand. I need a way to encode this value... i tried using escape so the quote is replaced by %27, but after unescaping its replaced again and the error happens. Thanks!

  • Special character in "entrée" cannot be displayed correctly if defined in a separate javascript file

    - by Jazure
    Example: The following string is defined in a json.js file. var test = "One complimentary entrée with the purchase of an entrée."; It is included in an index.html file by <script type="text/JavaScript" src="./json.js"></script> When the string is displayed in UI, it shows up as "One complimentary entr?e with the purchase of an entr?e." But if string is defined directly in the index.html, then it is not a problem. Can anyone suggest a solution on how to keep the text in the separate .js file?
