• McAfee Secure Messaging Service / Postini: false positive?

  Hello, I'm puzzled by this email message that gets quarantined by McAfee Secure Messaging Service (it's based on Postini) for no reason that I can think of. Here are the Postini headers: X-pstn-2strike: clear X-pstn-neptune: 0/0/0.00/0 X-pstn-levels: (S: 0.02932/98.63596 CV:99.9000 FC:95.5390 LC:95.5390 R:95.9108 P:95.9108 M:97.0282 C:98.6951 ) X-pstn-settings: 3 (1.0000:1.0000) s cv gt3 gt2 gt1 r p m c X-pstn-addresses: from [db-null] X-pstn-disposition: quarantine I read the docs (http://www.mcafee-sms.com/webdocs/admin%5Fee%5Fmcafee/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=MACAFFHelp&file=header%5Foverview.html#951634) and in short, the x-pstn-settings header tells me that NONE of the filters was triggered, but the x-pstn-levels header tells me that the final score (0.02932) is low enough to classify the email as bulk/spam. Can anyone explain to me why the final score is so low when none of the filters were triggered? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening? Regards, Martin

• How can I apply a DSP to my microphone in windows?

  I'd like to be able to run my microphone through arbitrary DSP filters--Mostly for compression and amplification, but also noise cancelation would be nice. I'd then like to take that output and put it back in a virtual audio device that I could use as input for skype, mumble, teamspeak, or any other VOIP program. With a program like Virtual Audio cable, I can do the 'fake devices' part but as far as I know it does not allow any kind of filtering inline. Does a program like this exist? Or some combination of programs that can be combined to accomplish this?

• Apple Mail doesn't apply rules unless I choose "Apply Rules" manually

  I'm using Apple Mail with IMAP account. I have several filtering rules defined. The problem is that Mail doesn't apply them automatically to incoming email. Even spam isn't filtered automatically. For all incoming email, every time, I have to select e-mails and select "Apply Rules", and then rules work fine (that one time on selected e-mails only). It works like this on two separate installs of Mail with different accounts (both IMAP though). How can I get Mail to apply all rules automatically every time to all e-mails? I wonder does it ignore rules because of misconfiguation, bug or does Apple seriously expect people to use "Apply Rules" menu item regularly?

  Hi, We are developing a SaaS website application that lets users send invoices to their clients. Ideally, these e-mails should appear to be originating from our customers, so the sender e-mail address domain will not match the reverse IP entry for our server. In effect we would be forging their e-mail address, but of course with their consent. Will that result in a higher probability of being marked as a spammer / their e-mails being marked as spam? If yes, how bad is the penalty? And what about people who have an e-mail address originating form an SPF-enabled domain? I guess it should be the majority of the big e-mail providers.

  I'm looking at some methods to browse the web, in situations where bandwidth is scarce (such as, flaky wifi connection, or mobile phone internet provider who overcharges the bandwidth). One thing that would save alot of bandwidth is not downloading images while browsing. This approach has two main drawbacks Sometimes a site's layout depends of images. There are some images you wish to see (thus disabling images downloading through firefox settings is not quite convenient). I'm looking therefor for a method that would allow me to Use some heuristic to find out which images are related to the website layout and allow them to be downloaded. Select a particular image from a website, download and display it. Maybe there's a firefox extension for that?

  I'm running a small wireless network (6 to 10 users) on a Linksys WRT54G with Tomato firmware sharing an Internet connection. I don't want the users to download files with BitTorrent (mainly used) and other P2P apps. I've also found some solutions about lowering P2P traffic priority using QoS. I really need to ban P2P traffic. Does anyone know how to setup some rules to deny that kind of traffic? I've tried to setup an Access Restriction Rule: However it's not working at all.

• How do I allow end user 'blocked sender lists' to work even if the server manages spam filtering?

  Client filtering in Outlook 2010 is disabled when the server is managing spam filtering. Unfortunately I have a few high profile users that prefer to spam-block mailing lists rather than unsubscribe, so even though the email is not really spam they are upset that it is coming into their mailbox. As seen here, I am not the first person to wrestle with this issue, and the suggested fix there (setting New-FseExtendedOption –Name CFAllowBlockedSenders –Value true) also failed to work for me. Can anyone provide another possible fix? Thank you kindly.

• Handling FreeBSD package upgrades using pkg_add

  I'm trying to use FreeBSD's pkg_add command to install and upgrade binary packages in a build-once-install-on-multiple-machines sort of scenario. It works well when installing a new package, but upgrades are baffling me. For example, if I want to upgrade a package that is depended on by another package, I can't just install it: # pkg_add /path/to/somepackage-2.0.tbz pkg_add: package 'somepackage' or its older version already installed At this point, I can delete the older version of the package if I pass -f to the pkg_delete command: # pkg_delete -f somepackage-1.0 pkg_delete: package 'somepackage-1.0' is required by these other packages and may not be deinstalled (but I'll delete it anyway): anotherpackage-1.0 But...and this is the killer...now the dependency information is gone! I can install the upgrade: # pkg_add /path/to/somepackage-2.0.tbz And now attempts to delete it will succeed without any errors: # pkg_delete somepackage-2.0 How do I handle this gracefully (whereby "gracefully" means "in a fashion that preserves dependency information without requiring me to rebuild/reinstall and entire dependency chain"). • Why are default spamassassin rules not being applied to emails we generate?

  My company uses a standalone spam-assassin install to test marketing emails, however, mail originating from us does not seem to run the full gamut of test. For example, Spam assassin has a default rule that flags messages that contain the phrase Dear [Something], and it properly flags spam that I feed it.It does not, however, apply that same rule to in house email I send it. Is it possible that spam assassin has white-listed us somehow, perhaps because the mail originates in the same domain as the server or receiver? I believe most of the recent spamassassin questions have been mine, so thanks for bearing with me as I figure this out!   I've had users sending copyrighted files (songs, videos) to each other over email. I blocked the file extensions .mp3 etc. What some users have done is to rename files to .doc etc. I cant block .doc etc filetypes because they are needed for day-to-day work. I'm using MDaemon 12 mailserver, Does anyone know how to make it block these attachments? I've been working on some content scanning for filetype code, but was wondering if there is a already made solution?

• Forwarding Emails From Inbox Only

  I have a forward setup on one of our public facing email addresses to a few users outside of our system (to an external address). Seeing as it's public (printed on a website in plain text), we get TONS of spam on that account. We're being marked as a SPAM source due to the forwarding by the external system. We have pretty aggressive IMF (Intelligent Message Filtering) setup, and it works great for internal messages. The problem we're facing is that Exchange is forwarding ALL the email received on that account, and not just the messages that pass the IMF (and don't get pushed into Junk). As far as I can tell, there's no way to adjust the IMF settings for that one account. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to setup folder forwarding (inbox - external address) from Exchange. Is there something I'm missing or is there any way around these issues that I may be missing? Thanks...

• trigger script on postfix delivery errors

  I'm trying to get postfix to run a script on soft (4xx) and hard (5xx) delivery errors, but I'm not sure where to start. If I understand things correctly, I could insert (pipe-based) filters in the master.cf file, there's a whole 'milter' infrastructure available, an finally I suppose I could simply grep through the mail.info logs. So - any advice? Should I go the 'handle it via master.cf' route, and if so, what daemon should I intercept? 'bounce'? The grep-the-logs route is probably simplest, but I can't help but feel that there is a better way. Any advice appreciated!

I get automated messages whose subject format makes them almost useless. Changing the emitting software is not going to happen, so I need to do something client side.   I'm setting up an environment where I have one Linux server, one OpenBSD router and one Linux client and I want to be able to limit how much bandwidth the client should be able to use. I've been performing these tests with "netcat" and "time" (using time to measure the time of the transfer with netcat), and what happens when trying these tests (using the TCP protocol, the queues will for some reason not work with UDP) is that the queues aren't exact at all. For example: when setting a bandwidth limit of 10mbit, the client cannot use more than five mbits, when setting a limit of 100mbit, the client cannot use more than around 50mbit. • Free firewall for Windows Server 2003

  We have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Machine here at work that I need to ensure is accessible only from specific set of IP Addresses. The Server is on a LAN and I am aware that one of the possible solutions maybe limit access to the Server's VLAN. However that is not feasible at the moment. I've been searching for a firewall that could do this, Windows' Firewall is pretty limited and I don't see an option in it to limit incoming data based on Source IP addresses. Most free firewalls like Comodo and ZoneAlarm don't work on Windows Server. Any ideas on how to accomplish this would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

• Is there a way to redirect certain URLs to specific web browsers in Linux?

  I'm using Chrome as my default browser in Ubuntu 12.10. I need to use Firefox for business purposes (certain websites pertaining to my work only work with Firefox). Is there a way to force Ubuntu to use Firefox for certain types of URLs (maybe as defined by a regular expression) while maintaining Chrome as my default browser for all my other tasks? Perhaps as a shell script running in the background? I'd like this to work system-wide, covering links from Chrome itself as well as PDFs/ODTs, etc. I have searched for solutions, but I couldn't find anything besides OpenWith, a Firefox extension which adds a button to open certain links in other browsers which would again require me to open Firefox beforehand, which does not help me at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Something like Choosy for Linux?

  I've been researching this on google for literally 3 weeks, racking my brain and still not quite finding anything. I can't believe this is so elusive. (I'm a complete beginner so if my terminology sounds stupid then that's why.) I have a database in mysql/phpmyadmin on my web host. I'm trying to create a front end that will allow a user to specify criteria for querying the database in a way that they don't have to know sql, basically just combo boxes and checkboxes on a form. Then have this form 'submit' a query to the database, and show the filtered tables. I've looked into using jQuery with google spreadsheets, doesn't work at all either I have no idea how I'm supposed to build a front end with my database. Every place that looks promising (like zohocreator) is asking for money, and is far too simplified to be able to do the LIKE criteria or SELECT DISTINCT stuff.
