• Zend database query result converts column values to null

  Hi again. I am using the next instructions to get some registers from my Database. Create the needed models (from the params module): $obj_paramtype_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype(); $obj_param_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Param(); Getting the available locales from the database // This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract class object $obj_paramtype = $obj_paramtype_model->getParamtypeByValue('available_locales'); // This is a query used to add conditions to the next sentence. This is executed from the Params_Model_DbTable_Param instance class, that depends from Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype class (reference map and dependentTables arrays are fine in both classes) $obj_select = $this->select()->where('deleted_at IS NULL')->order('name'); // Execute the next query, applying the select restrictions. This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. This means "Find Params by Paramtype" $obj_params_rowset = $obj_paramtype->findDependentRowset('Params_Model_DbTable_Param', 'Paramtype', $obj_paramtype); // Here the firebug log displays the queries.... Zend_Registry::get('log')->debug($obj_params_rowset); I have a profiler for all my DB executions from Zend. At this point the log and profiler objects (that includes Firebug writers), shows the executed SQL Queries, and the last line displays the resulting Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. If I execute the SQL Queries in some MySQL Client, the results are as expected. But the Zend Firebug log writer displays as NULL the column values with latin characters (ñ). In other words, the external SQL client shows es_CO | Español de Colombia and en_US | English of United States but the Query results from Zend displays (and returns) es_CO | null and en_US | English of United States. I've deleted the ñ character from Español de Colombia and the query results are just fine in my Zend Log Firebug screen, and in the final Zend Form element. The MySQL database, tables and columns are in UTF-8 - utf8_unicode_ci collation. All my zend framework pages are in UTF-8 charset. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.1 (PHP 5.2.9, Apache at port 90 and MySQL 5.1.33-community) running on Windows 7 Ultimate; Zend Framework 1.10.1. I'm sorry if there is so much information, but I don't really know why could that happen, so I tryed to provide as much related information as I could to help to find some answer.

  I'm dealing with a Postgres table (called "lives") that contains records with columns for time_stamp, usr_id, transaction_id, and lives_remaining. I need a query that will give me the most recent lives_remaining total for each usr_id There are multiple users (distinct usr_id's) time_stamp is not a unique identifier: sometimes user events (one by row in the table) will occur with the same time_stamp. trans_id is unique only for very small time ranges: over time it repeats remaining_lives (for a given user) can both increase and decrease over time example: time_stamp|lives_remaining|usr_id|trans_id ----------------------------------------- 07:00 | 1 | 1 | 1 09:00 | 4 | 2 | 2 10:00 | 2 | 3 | 3 10:00 | 1 | 2 | 4 11:00 | 4 | 1 | 5 11:00 | 3 | 1 | 6 13:00 | 3 | 3 | 1 As I will need to access other columns of the row with the latest data for each given usr_id, I need a query that gives a result like this: time_stamp|lives_remaining|usr_id|trans_id ----------------------------------------- 11:00 | 3 | 1 | 6 10:00 | 1 | 2 | 4 13:00 | 3 | 3 | 1 As mentioned, each usr_id can gain or lose lives, and sometimes these timestamped events occur so close together that they have the same timestamp! Therefore this query won't work: SELECT b.time_stamp,b.lives_remaining,b.usr_id,b.trans_id FROM (SELECT usr_id, max(time_stamp) AS max_timestamp FROM lives GROUP BY usr_id ORDER BY usr_id) a JOIN lives b ON a.max_timestamp = b.time_stamp Instead, I need to use both time_stamp (first) and trans_id (second) to identify the correct row. I also then need to pass that information from the subquery to the main query that will provide the data for the other columns of the appropriate rows. This is the hacked up query that I've gotten to work: SELECT b.time_stamp,b.lives_remaining,b.usr_id,b.trans_id FROM (SELECT usr_id, max(time_stamp || '*' || trans_id) AS max_timestamp_transid FROM lives GROUP BY usr_id ORDER BY usr_id) a JOIN lives b ON a.max_timestamp_transid = b.time_stamp || '*' || b.trans_id ORDER BY b.usr_id Okay, so this works, but I don't like it. It requires a query within a query, a self join, and it seems to me that it could be much simpler by grabbing the row that MAX found to have the largest timestamp and trans_id. The table "lives" has tens of millions of rows to parse, so I'd like this query to be as fast and efficient as possible. I'm new to RDBM and Postgres in particular, so I know that I need to make effective use of the proper indexes. I'm a bit lost on how to optimize. I found a similar discussion here. Can I perform some type of Postgres equivalent to an Oracle analytic function? Any advice on accessing related column information used by an aggregate function (like MAX), creating indexes, and creating better queries would be much appreciated! P.S. • Entity Framework looking for wrong column

  I'm brand new to the Entity Framework and trying to learn all it can offer. • What to name column in database table that holds versioning number

  I'm trying to figure out what to call the column in my database table that holds an INT to specific "record version". I'm currently using "RecordOrder", but I don't like that, because people think higher=newer, but the way I'm using it, lower=newer (with "1" being the current record, "2" being the second most current, "3" older still, and so on). I've considered "RecordVersion", but I'm afraid that would have the same problem. Any other suggestions? "RecordAge"? I'm doing this because when I insert into the table, instead of having to find out what version is next, then run the risk of having that number stolen from me before I write, I just insert insert with a "RecordOrder" of 0. There's a trigger on the table AFTER INSERT that increments all the "RecordOrder" numbers for that key by 1, so the record I just inserted becomes "1", and all others are increased by 1. That way, you can get a person's current record by selection RecordOrder=1, instead of getting the MAX(RecordOrder) and then selecting that. PS - I'm also open to criticism about why this is a terrible idea and I should be incrementing this index instead. This just seemed to make lookups much easier, but if it's a bad idea, please enlighten me! Some details about the data, as an example: I have the following database table: CREATE TABLE AmountDue ( CustomerNumber INT, AmountDue DECIMAL(14,2), RecordOrder SMALLINT, RecordCreated DATETIME ) A subset of my data looks like this: CustomerNumber Amountdue RecordOrder RecordCreated 100 0 1 2009-12-19 05:10:10.123 100 10.05 2 2009-12-15 06:12:10.123 100 100.00 3 2009-12-14 14:19:10.123 101 5.00 1 2009-11-14 05:16:10.123 In this example, there are three rows for customer 100 - they owed $100, then $10.05, and now they owe nothing. Let me know if I need to clarify it some more. UPDATE: The "RecordOrder" and "RecordCreated" columns are not available to the user - they're only there for internal use, and to help figure out which is the current customer record. Also, I could use it to return an appropriately-ordered customer history, though I could just as easily do that with the date. I can accomplish the same thing as an incrementing "Record Version" with just the RecordCreated date, I suppose, but that removes the convenience of knowing that RecordOrder=1 is the current record, and I'm back to doing a sub-query with MAX or MIN on the DateTime to determine the most recent record.

  How should I index a date column when some rows has null values? We have to select rows between a date range and rows with null dates. We use Oracle 9.2 and higher. Options I found Using a bitmap index on the date column Using an index on date column and an index on a state field which value is 1 when the date is null Using an index on date column and an other granted not null column My thoughts to the options are: to 1: the table have to many different values to use an bitmap index to 2: I have to add an field only for this purpose and to change the query when I want to retrieve the null date rows to 3: locks tricky to add an field to an index which is not really needed What is the best practice for this case? • How to replace values in multi-valued ESE column?

  I have a multi-valued short ASCII text column in one of the tables in my ESE database, that holds the person's phone numbers. I have the new set of values, and I'd like to wipe the old values completely, and only use the new values. The JET_bitSetRevertToDefaultValue bit doesn't seem to work. While the MSDN documentation says "It causes the column to return the default column value on subsequent retrieve column operations. All existing column values are removed.", I found that it does nothing (no return value is returned). Or, is there an easy way to find out how many values does the column contain (this could be zero, e.g. when I'm doing an insertion, not update)? If it was, I could just run a loop from 'nValues' to 1, erasing the value by setting it to the null while providing the itagSequence value, to achieve what I want. I'm programming C#, and using the latest version of ManagedEsent library. Thanks in advance!

  I am creating an mssql database table, "Orders", that will contain a varchar(50) field, "Value" containing a string that represents a slightly complex data type, "OrderValue". I am using a linqtosql datacontext class, which automatically types the "Value" column as a string. I gave the "OrderValue" class implicit conversion operators to and from a string, so I can easily use implicit conversion with the linqtosql classes like this: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // use implicit converstion to turn the string representation of the order // value into the complex data type. OrderValue value = order.Value; // adjust one of the fields in the complex data type value.Shipping += 10; // use implicit conversion to store the string representation of the complex // data type back in the linqtosql order object order.Value = value; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); However, I would really like to be able to tell the linqtosql class to type this field as "OrderValue" rather than as "string". Then I would be able to avoid complex code and re-write the above as: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // The Value field is already typed as the "OrderValue" type rather than as string. // When a string value was read from the database table, it was implicity converted // to "OrderValue" type. order.Value.Shipping += 10; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); In order to achieve this desired goal, I looked at the datacontext designer and selected the "Value" field of the "Order" table. Then, in properties, I changed "Type" to "global::MyApplication.OrderValue". The "Server Data Type" property was left as "VarChar(50) NOT NULL" The project built without errors. However, when reading from the database table, I was presented with the following error message: Could not convert from type 'System.String' to type 'MyApplication.OrderValue'. at System.Data.Linq.DBConvert.ChangeType(Object value, Type type) at Read_Order(ObjectMaterializer1 ) at System.Data.Linq.SqlClient.ObjectReaderCompiler.ObjectReader2.MoveNext() at System.Linq.Buffer1..ctor(IEnumerable1 source) at System.Linq.Enumerable.ToArray[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at Example.OrdersProvider.GetOrders() at ... etc From the stack trace, I believe this error is happening while reading the data from the table. When presented with converting a string to my custom data type, even though the implicit conversion operators are present, the DBConvert class gets confused and throws an error. The only thing I store are in the form partial.. The problem I'm running into is that when a validation error gets thrown, the page renders the new action (expected) but none of the non-column attributes within the Account Detail form will show? Any ideas as to how I can change this code around a bit to make this work me?? This same solution may be the help I need for the edit form, I have a getter for the data which it asks the API for, but without place a :value = "asdf" within each text box, it doesn't populate the fields either..

I want to create 6 files for individual features. For example feat1_file.txt will contain -1 1:-0.394668 1 1:-0.463641 ... 1 1:-0.757233 1 1:-0.167147 feat2_file.txt will contain -1 2:-0.794872 ... 1 2:-0.589744 and so on. I have a Perl code that does this but it is horribly slow. Is there a way to do it faster? • How to alter Postgres table data based on its contents?

  This is probably a super simple question, but I'm struggling to come up with the right keywords to find it on Google. I have a Postgres table that has among its contents a column of type text named content_type. That stores what type of entry is stored in that row. There are only about 5 different types, and I decided I want to change one of them to display as something else in my application (I had been directly displaying these). It struck me that it's funny that my view is being dictated by my database model, and I decided I would convert the types being stored in my database as strings into integers, and enumerate the possible types in my application with constants that convert them into their display names. That way, if I ever got the urge to change any category names again, I could just change it with one alteration of a constant. I also have the hunch that storing integers might be somewhat more efficient than storing text in the database. First, a quick threshold question of, is this a good idea? Any feedback or anything I missed? Second, and my main question, what's the Postgres command I could enter to make an alteration like this? I'm thinking I could start by renaming the old content_type column to old_content_type and then creating a new integer column content_type. However, what command would look at a row's old_content_type and fill in the new content_type column based off of that?

• a value that shows in select mode disappears in edit mode from a gridview column

You can see in first row 5 was 3rd column and in 2nd row it was input to make 2 (3rd column) I am looking for a solutin that if it pass 3 it return me (1,4,5) rows and same for other digits.   I am given: An excel sheet contains around 200 tasks (described in rows 2-201 in Column A). Each task can be elegible for a max of two projects (There are 4 projects in total, called "P1-P4" - drop down lists in Columns B and D); and this with a specific %-rate allocation (columns C & E - Column C refers to the Project Column B, and Column E refers to the Project in Column D). Column F shows the amount of work days spent on each task. Example in row 2: Task 1 (Column A); P1 (Column B) ; 80% (Column C) ; P3 (Column D) ; 20% (Column E) ; 3 (Column F) I need to know the sum of the working days spent on Project P3 respecting the %-rate for elegibility. I know how to calculate it for each Task (each Row) - e.g. for Task 1: =IF(B2="P3";C2*F2)+IF(D2="P3";E2*F2) However instead of repeating this for each task, I need a formula that adds them all together. Unfortunately the following formula shows me an error: =IF(B2:B201="P3";C2:C201*F2:F201)+IF(D2:D201="P3";E2:E201*F2:F201) Can anyone help please? Thank you!!

• Why do I get "Invalid Column Name" errors in EF4?

  I am trying to learn Entity Framework 4.0. Disclaimer 1: I am brand new to Entity Framework. I have successfully used LinqToSQL. Disclaimer 2: I am really a VB.Net programmer, so the problem could be in the C# code. Given this code snippet: public int Login(string UserName, string Password) { return _dbContext.Memberships .Where(membership => membership.UserName.ToLower() == UserName.ToLower() && membership.Password == Password) .SingleOrDefault().PrimaryKey; } Why do you suppose I get "Invalid column name" errors? {"Invalid column name 'UserName'.\r\nInvalid column name 'Password'.\r\nInvalid column name 'UserName'.\r\nInvalid column name 'Password'."} Those column names are spelled and cased correctly. I also checked the generated code for the entity in question, and those columns are properties in the entity. The intellisense and code completion also puts the column names into the expression just as they are here. I am stumped by this.   In a DataTable object, is there added overhead to looking up a column value by name thisRow("ColumnA") rather than by the column index thisRow(0)? In which scenarios might this be an issue. I work on a team that has lots of experience writing VB6 code and I noticed that didn't do column lookups by name for DataTable objects or data grids. Even in .NET code, we use a set of integer constants to reference column names in these types of objects. I asked our team lead why this was so, and he mentioned that in VB6, there was a lot of overhead in looking up data by column name rather than by index. Is this still true for .NET?   Hi, How could I (/is it possible) to add a custom column to my DataView, and in this column display the result of a specific calculation. That is, I currently have a dataGridView which has a binding to a DataView, based on the DataTable from my database. I'd like to add an additional column to the dataGridView to display a number which is calculated by looking at this current row plus it's children row. In other words the info for the column isn't just derivable from the row data itself. Specific questions might be: a) where to add the column itself? to the DataView I assume? b) which method / event to trigger the re-calculation of the value of this custom column from ( / how do I control this) Thanks PS. • How do I view the full content of a text or varchar(MAX) column in SQL Server 2008 Management Studio

  In this live SQL Server 2008 (build 10.0.1600) database, there's an Events table, which contains a text column named Details. (Yes, I realize this should actually be a varchar(MAX) column, but whoever set this database up did not do it that way.) This column contains very large logs of exceptions and associated JSON data that I'm trying to access through SQL Server Management Studio, but whenever I copy the results from the grid to a text editor, it truncates it at 43679 characters. I've read on various locations on the Internet that you can set your Maximum Characters Retrieved for XML Data in Tools > Options > Query Results > SQL Server > Results To Grid to Unlimited, and then perform a query such as this: select Convert(xml, Details) from Events where EventID = 13920 (Note that the data is column is not XML at all. CONVERTing the column to XML is merely a workaround I found from Googling that someone else has used to get around the limit SSMS has from retrieving data from a text or varchar(MAX) column.) However, after setting the option above, running the query, and clicking on the link in the result, I still get the following error: Unable to show XML. The following error happened: Unexpected end of file has occurred. Line 5, position 220160. One solution is to increase the number of characters retrieved from the server for XML data. To change this setting, on the Tools menu, click Options. So, any idea on how to access this data? Would converting the column to varchar(MAX) fix my woes?
