  • Save gcc compile status to a text file for Java

    - by JohnBore
I'm making a C Assessment Program through Java, which has a bunch of programming questions for C, and it lets the user input an answer in the form of C code, and then press a "Compile" button, which is linked to a bat file that runs the user input code through gcc. I've got the input and compiling working, but I need to get the output from the compiler and get that to print textarea within the program. I can get a simple "Hello, world" compiling, but I'm having trouble getting programs that require a user input with scanf, for example, to be printed. else if(e.getSource().equals(compile)){ if(questionNumber<1){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(programFrame, "Please start the assessment", "Compile Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } else{ FileOutputStream fileWrite; try { fileWrite = new FileOutputStream("demo/demo.c"); new PrintStream(fileWrite).println(input.getText());//saves what the user has entered in to a C source file fileWrite.close(); @SuppressWarnings("unused") Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c compile.bat");//runs the batch file to compile the source file compileCode(); try{ fileStream = new FileInputStream("demo/output.txt"); inputStream = new DataInputStream(fileStream); bufferRead = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(inputStream)); while((stringLine = bufferRead.readLine())!=null){ compiled.append(stringLine); compiled.append("\n"); } inputStream.close(); } catch(IOException exc){ System.err.println("Unable to read file"); System.exit(-1); } } catch (IOException exc) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(programFrame, "Demo file not found", "File Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } This is the actionPerformed method for the "Compile" button, the compileCode() is the JFrame that displays the output and "compiled" is the textArea for the output. My batch file is: C: cd dev-cpp\bin gcc.exe H:\workspace\QuestionProgram\demo\demo.c -o demo > H:\workspace\QuestionProgram\demo\compilestatus.txt demo > H:\workspace\QuestionProgram\demo\output.txt I'm not sure how I can do it, so the frame is created for the output of the code if the code requires a user input as the command prompt doesn't open without adding "START" to .exec(), but then the frame appears before the program has finished running. Also, how would I get the output of the compiler if the compile fails because of an error? The way I've got it in my batch file at the moment doesn't put anything in a text file if it fails.

  • Running a batch file from Perl (Activestate perl in Windows)

    - by Jithesh
I have a Perl program which does something like below: #!perl use strict; use warnings; my $exe = "C:\\project\\set_env_and_run.bat"; my $arg1 = "\\\\Server\\share\\folder1"; my $arg2 = "D:\\output\\folder1"; my $cmd = "$exe \"$arg1\" \"$arg2\""; my $status = system("$cmd > c:\\tmp\out.txt 2>&1"); print "$status\n"; I am calling this Perl code in an eval block. When invoked, i get the status printed as 0, but the batch file has not actually executed. What would be the reason for this? Thanks, Jits

  • How to Use an Environment Variable as an Environment Variable Name

    - by Synetech inc.
Hi, In my pursuit of a solution to another environment-variable/batch-file related problem, I have once again come across a problem I have visited before (but cannot for the life of me remember how, or even if I solved it). Say you have two BAT files (or one batch file and the command line). How can one pass an environment variable name to the other so that it can read the variable? The following example does not work: A.BAT: @call b.bat path B.BAT: @echo %%1% > A.BAT > %1 > B.BAT path > %1 It is easy enough to pass the environment variable name, but the callee cannot seem to use it. (I don’t remember if or how I dealt with this the last time it came up, but I suspect it required the less-than-ideal use of redirecting temporary BAT files and calling them and such.) Any ideas? Thanks.

(msdos window doesn't allow me to coppy damn thing I hate dos anyway .. ) is there anyway, I can run this batch file as admin, right click doesn't work me because I can't give any parameter to it. Any help, I really really apreciated that.

  • Deferring frequent updates in MySQL

    - by cdecker
I have frequent updates to a user table that simply sets the last seen time of a user, and I was wondering whether there is a simple way to defer them and group them into a single query after a short timeout (5 minutes or so). This would reduce queries on my user database quite a lot.

  • Batch update records in Grails

    - by UltraVi01
I have to calculate a "total" for each user based on individual actions -- that is, a User hasMany Actions and each Action has a point. So I need to basically get a sum of all the points on all the actions. Actions are added and subtracted regularly. Since this can be a rather heavy operation, it's not feasible that I execute the "total" each time I need it. Therefore, I am thinking of running the operation once a day for each user and storing the total points on the User as an int. Because I have thousands of users, I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. Should I basically iterate through all the users and call User.save() each time, or is there some kind of batch update mechanism I can use in Grails / GORM?

  • Batch INSYNC help needed...

    - by Raja Reddy
I have a INSYNC batch to 'extract' certain conditioned data output. For instance, below insync code extracts the data if 44 pos has a value of '25'. Question here is, I wanna get the output in a sorted manner based on a particular field. Can we incorporate the SORT criteria below. Suggestions are really appreciated. FUNCTION=EXTRACT INDD=#INDD OUTDD=#OUTDD RDW=OFF LINESPERPAGE=080 CASE SEARCHDATA=(00044,002,EQ,C'25') ENDCASE PS: We can achieve the same by means of SORT utility through 'SORT FIELDS' parameter.

  • NHibernate second-level cache with external updates.

    - by SztupY
I've got a web application that is 99% read-only, with a separate service that updates the database at specific intervals (like every 10 minutes). How can this service tell the application to invalidate it's second-level cache? Is it actually important? (I don't actually care if I have too much stale data) If I don't invalidate the cache how much time is needed to the records to get updated (if using SysCache)

  • How to do steps of an API through CLI/ batch mode without GUI

    - by Dolphin
I'm using Audiveris API to generate xml(MusicXML) file once the sheetmusic(e.g. pdf/img file) is being input (i.e. When I give the sheet music (pdf file) location, to generate the xml file out of it (in another location)). Audiveris has its own GUI to do this. But can I do this process of sheetmusic-to-xml without using their GUI, but only from the CLI? If so how may I approach it? And also if so - is there a possibility to make it work in CLI - using Java code (say to invoke steps for API to occur in the CLI using Java Code - I've heard this is possible using shell commands)? I managed to open the GUI by opening the jar file from CLI. But I need to know whether there's a possibility to carry out the entire sheetmusic(say pdf)-to-xml process without using their GUI, but only through CLI (i.e. in batch mode)? Greatly appreciate any help or guidance Thanks in advance

  • Best way to test a batch email script

    - by John
I have a php mail script sitting on a LAMP vps server. The script grabs about 1000 emails and sends them each an html email. I tested the script with about half a dozen of my own test email accounts and things worked fine. But I am concerned something may go wrong when I actually use this script for 1000 emails. Some things I would like to test for are 1) Confirm all 1000 emails were sent and received 2) Test to make sure emails did not end up in people's spam folders 3) Detect any other general failures Does anyone have suggestions on how I can test for the above cases? I would like to read about your experiences building batch email scripts.

  • Process a batch of items, return an object to report on status

    - by Naeem Sarfraz
I'm looking for a pattern (or good practice) for the following scenario: My function List<BatchItemResponse> Process(List<BatchItem> Data) {..} will process a list of data, and return info on where each item in the batch could be processed. struct BatchItemResponse { int BatchItemID; bool Processed; string Description; } Any thoughts? Is what I've proposed as good as it gets?

  • Extracting RAR archive into multiple directories on Windows

    - by user368565
Hello, On a Windows box, I need to extract a RAR archive so that individual files in it go into specific directories. I can provide, say, a text file that lists each file and the target directory for it. Then I need help creating a batch file that will actually extract these files into their target locations. Please help. E.g. RAR archive x.rar contains a.a b.b c.c Text file x.txt says a.a C:\foo b.b C:\bar c.c C:\foo Result of running batch file on x.rar and x.txt should be: in C:\foo we have a.a and c.c in C:\bar we have b.b Thanks!

  • How to handle very frequent updates to a Lucene index

    - by fsm
I am trying to prototype an indexing/search application which uses very volatile indexing data sources (forums, social networks etc), here are some of the performance requirements, Very fast turn-around time (by this I mean that any new data (such as a new message on a forum) should be available in the search results very soon (less than a minute)) I need to discard old documents on a fairly regular basis to ensure that the search results are not dated. Last but not least, the search application needs to be responsive. (latency on the order of 100 milliseconds, and should support at least 10 qps) All of the requirements I have currently can be met w/o using Lucene (and that would let me satisfy all 1,2 and 3), but I am anticipating other requirements in the future (like search relevance etc) which Lucene makes easier to implement. However, since Lucene is designed for use cases far more complex than the one I'm currently working on, I'm having a hard time satisfying my performance requirements. Here are some questions, a. I read that the optimize() method in the IndexWriter class is expensive, and should not be used by applications that do frequent updates, what are the alternatives? b. In order to do incremental updates, I need to keep committing new data, and also keep refreshing the index reader to make sure it has the new data available. These are going to affect 1 and 3 above. Should I try duplicate indices? What are some common approaches to solving this problem? c. I know that Lucene provides a delete method, which lets you delete all documents that match a certain query, in my case, I need to delete all documents which are older than a certain age, now one option is to add a date field to every document and use that to delete documents later. Is it possible to do range queries on document ids (I can create my own id field since I think that the one created by lucene keeps changing) to delete documents? Is it any faster than comparing dates represented as strings? I know these are very open questions, so I am not looking for a detailed answer, I will try to treat all of your answers as suggestions and use them to inform my design. Thanks! Please let me know if you need any other information.

  • Define a new handle (Similar to STDOUT)

    - by Monacraft
I was looking at redirecting handles in batch, when I noticed this: Here is the link It mentions that Handle 3-9 are undefined and can be defined by a program. Now I've read about doing this in C#, but I wondered if this was possible in cmd/batch - and if it is what are its limitations/use. If it is not possible in cmd how would I go about using this, and could it be a soloution to outputing data to the screen and redirecting it to a file at the same time (a problem which has not been able to be done legitametly at the same time). Thanks, Mona.

  • How to do a batch update?

    - by chobo2
Hi I am wondering is there a way to do batch updating? I am using ms sql server 2005. I saw away with the sqlDataAdaptor but it seems like you have to first the select statement with it, then fill some dataset and make changes to dataset. Now I am using linq to sql to do the select so I want to try to keep it that way. However it is too slow to do massive updates. So is there away that I can keep my linq to sql(for the select part) but using something different to do the mass update? Thanks

  • Core Data: Mass updates possible?

    - by wgpubs
Is it possible to do mass updates on a given entity in Core Data? Given an Person entity for example, can I do something like this: Person.update(@"set displayOrder = displayOrder + 1 where displayOrder > 5") Or is my only option to fetch all the entities needed and then loop through and update them individually??? Thanks

  • Execute a batch script from Firefox

    - by danilo
I have written an intranet application from which you can directly connect to a virtual machine by clicking on a RDP-button. The click calls a .bat file, which opens the connection. With IE, this is no problem, as you can choose to directly execute the batch file. But with Firefox, I can only download the script, and have to start it manually afterwards. Is there a way to trust the intranet domain (about:config?) so Firefox allows it to execute scripts directly? Or is there an even better (easier) way to start an RDP connection from Firefox?

  • Command line does not execute my parameters

    - by darnpunk
I have created a batch file to run an application automatically but it seems my CMD does not run it. I typed this (using notepad as an example): CMD /C "C:\notepad2\notepad2.exe" If I run this from Windows Vista it worked. But running this from Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) it just doesn't work. I even try using that line from the Run menu but no go. What do I do? My aim is to run a scheduled task that runs the batch file every now and then.

  • To update or to not update?

    - by Massimo
Since starting working where I am working now, I've been in an endless struggle with my boss and coworkers in regard to updating systems. I of course totally agree that any update (be it firmware, O.S. or application) should not be applied carelessly as soon as it comes out, but I also firmly believe that there should be at least some reason if the vendor released it; and the most common reason is usually fixing some bug... which maybe you're not experiencing now, but you could be experiencing soon if you don't keep up with . This is especially true for security fixes; as an examle, had anyone simply applied a patch that had already been available for months, the infamous SQL Slammer worm would have been harmless. I'm all for testing and evaluating updates before deployng them; but I strongly disagree with the "if it's not broken then don't touch it" approach to systems management, and it genuinely hurts me when I find production Windows 2003 SP1 or ESX 3.5 Update 2 systems, and the only answer I can get is "it's working, we don't want to break it". What do you think about this? What is your policy? And what is your company policy, if it doesn't match your own?
