  • ODBC Connection String Problem

    Hi there, I am having major trouble connecting to my database via ODBC. The db is local (but I have a mirror on a virtual machine), so I am trying to use the connectionstring: Dsn=MonetDB;host=TARBELL where TARBELL is the name of my computer. However, it doesn't connect. BUT, this string does: Dsn=MonetDB;host=localhost as does Dsn=MonetDB Can anyone explain this? I am at a complete loss. I have taken down my firewalls (at least until I get this figured out), so that can't be the problem. I eventually want to change the TARBELL to the mirrored virtual machine running another instance of the database. Many thanks, Brett

    Hello all, I am architecting a software project and I want to create a SAAS (Software As a service) one. I want to model my application along the lines of Salesforce. I really like there customization features but I am not sure how they really go about it. I read that they create an ID for every field that is required and then store the corresponding data too. Can anyone guide me as to how this is possible. For example, if I want to store an employee record. 2 fields (firstname, lastname) are already given and the user adds a third field(say DOB), how is data going to be stored? I would also appreciate if someone could give me some resources to practical examples of implementing a SAAS architecture. Thanks

    What is the best way to do complex reporting on subversion logs like the following for each file? file, directory, last revision date, previous revision date(where revision date is at least 30 older than last), days diff(between revision dates) Since Subversion allows on revision to change multiple files I assume svn log needs to be run against each file individually. Ideas (that don't seem very good): Shell scripting to produce a csv file to be imported to a DB. The following is a start but doesn't show the filename: find . -name "." -print | xargs -l svn log -l 2 Shell scripting to produce XML and then use XSLT to create CSV to import to a DB. It might use a similar command to above but would still have some of the same limitation. Write a program to just parse the log on the whole directory tree, make one insert to DB per revision/file combination, and then query the DB.

    I am new to nHibernate and having some issues getting over the learning curve. My current question involves passing a string value as a parameter to a stored sproc. The error I get is: Input string is not in correct format.   • ASP.NET MVC 2 UpdateModel() is not updating values in memory or database

    Hello, I am new to MVC, and so am working through the NerdDinner tutorial, here. In particular, I'm running into problems with the use of the UpdateModel method, which is explained in the part five of that tutorial. The problem is, when I try to edit the value of a dinner object using the UpdateModel method, the values do not get updated, and no exceptions are thrown. Oddly, I am not having any trouble with the Create or Delete features that are illustrated in the tutorial. Only the update feature isn't working. Below, I have included the Controller code that I am using, as well as the view markup, which is contained in both an aspx View file and an ascx Partial View file.     Hello... I have created a set of tables (around 20) in MSSql 2008 and entered around 1000 records to appropriate tables. But the issue is that I want that same tables with all the entered data into MSSql 2005 (SQLEXPRESS). Obviously it won't work by taking a backup and restore it into MSSql 2005 as it won't support backward compatibility. Any suggestion would be appreciated.... Thanks in advance....

    There's a few other posts on mapping Enums to the DB with ActiveRecord, but none of them answer my question. I have an enum called OrderState: public enum OrderState {InQueue, Ordered, Error, Cancelled} And I have the following property on the table: [Property(NotNull = true, SqlType = "orderstate", ColumnType = "DB.EnumMapper, WebSite")] public OrderState State { get { return state; } set { state = value; } } And I have the following type class: public class EnumMapper : NHibernate.Type.EnumStringType<OrderState> { public EnumMapper() { } public override NHibernate.SqlTypes.SqlType SqlType { get { return new NHibernate.SqlTypes.SqlType(DbType.Object); } } } Now this actually works the way I want, but the problem is I have tons of enums and I don't want to create a EnumMapper class for each one of them. Isn't there some way to just tell ActiveRecord to use DbType.Object for any enum? It seems to either want to be an integer or a string, but nothing else. This one's been driving me crazy for the last 2 hours.. Mike

    SQLite3 uses dynamic typing rather than static typing, in contrast to other flavors of SQL. The SQLite website reads: Most SQL database engines (every SQL database engine other than SQLite, as far as we know) uses static, rigid typing. With static typing, the datatype of a value is determined by its container - the particular column in which the value is stored. SQLite uses a more general dynamic type system. In SQLite, the datatype of a value is associated with the value itself, not with its container. It seems to me that this is exactly what you don't want, as it lets you store, for example, strings in integer columns.     I like the apparent simplicity of JdbcTemplate but am a little confused as to how it works. It appears that each operation (query() or update()) fetches a connection from a datasource and closes it. Beautiful, but how do you perform multiple SQL queries within the same connection? I might want to perform multiple operations in sequence (for example SELECT followed by an INSERT followed by a commit) or I might want to perform nested queries (SELECT and then perform a second SELECT based on result of each row). How do I do that with JdbcTemplate. Am I using the right class?

    Hello I am trying to setup a Padrino project using DataMapper and MySQL on my Mac OSX Snow Leopard. I have the necessary gems: dm-core data_objects do_mysql mysql (linked to my original Mac OSX installation) But when I try to start the padrino with PADRINO START from the console, I get the following error: /Users/ivolution/.bundle/ruby/1.9.1/gems/dm-core-0.10.2/lib/dm-core/adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:3:in `require': no such file to load -- do_mysql (LoadError) But as I said I do have do_mysql gem installed so there shouldn't be such error, I did bundle install in my project folder before trying to start Padrino. Any ideas?

    I am creating a site that allow users to vote on webpages similar to digg.com. Users login with 'facebook connect' and logged in users can submit, vote, comment, etc and these details appear in their profile ie. number of submits, votes, comments, etc. I have also added in facebook 'likes' to the system. I would however like to be able replace the internal voting platform with facebook 'likes'. What I would like to be able to do is identify when any of the site users vote on a facebook 'like'. Although a facebook 'like' can be made outside of my site I am only interested when a logged in user submits a 'like' so this can contribute towards their stats. Is this possible, if so how?     I have 2 database fields `decval` decimal(5,2) `intval` int(3) I have 2 pdo queries that update them. The one that updates the int works ok $update_intval->bindParam(':intval', $intval, PDO::PARAM_INT); but I can't update the decimal field. I've tried the 3 ways below, but nothing works $update_decval->bindParam(':decval', $decval, PDO::PARAM_STR); $update_decval->bindParam(':decval', $decval, PDO::PARAM_INT); $update_decval->bindParam(':decval', $decval); It seems the problem is with the database type decimal? Is there a PDO::PARAM for a field of type decimal? If not, what do I use as a workaround?
