• Modularizing web applications

  Hey all, I was wondering how big companies tend to modularize components on their page. Facebook is a good example: There's a team working on Search that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc.. There's a team working on the news feed that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc... ... And the list goes on They cannot all be aware of what everyone is naming their div tags and whatnot, so what's the controller(?) doing to hook all these components in on the final page?? Note: This doesn't just apply to facebook - any company that has separate teams working on separate components has some logic that helps them out. EDIT: Thanks all for the responses, unfortunately I still haven't really found what I'm looking for - when you check out the source code (granted its minified), the divs have UIDs, my guess is that there is a compilation process that runs through and makes each of the components unique, renaming divs and css rules.. any ideas? • Silverlight doesn't prompt to increase quota

  I am trying out Silverlight's Isolated Storage feature. Currently running Silverlight thru ASP.NET page.   I'm experiencing crashes of an app that uses UIWebView. Usually it's when page is not fully loaded and UIWebView is sent stopLoading selector. Or when UIWebView fully loaded page. I've got EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Only for Cocoa (not cocoa touch) WebView. I suspect that there is something wrong with UIWebView or its delegate. But I can't set breakpoint to watch them. Please advise how I can get more info in this situation.

  I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine. I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object). Here's the bound object's OnValidate method: partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) { if (_IsVoid) { string comments = this.VoidedComments; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this._VoidedComments)) { throw new ValidationException("Voided Comments are Required to Void an Error"); } } } } Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynaimc control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected. Any thoughts as to What's going on?

  Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to use the FilterDescriptor control from code behind? On the page load of my form I set the datasource of a grid in the code behind, not using a DomainDataSource control, like: TestDomainContext context = new TestDomainContext(); dataGridEmployees.ItemsSource = context.EmployeePositions; context.Load(context.GetEmployeesWithPositionQuery()); I have a textbox on my page that the user can enter into to filter on employee position. Is it now possible to add FilterDescriptor to the source of the DataGrid in code behind? Or would I manually need to filter the results of the context.GetEmployeesWithPositionQuery, for example on KeyUp event of the filter TextBox?

• facebook connect for android returns a blank login screen?

  Hi, i am trying to use the old facebook connect authentication to authenticate my android client to get the necessary session id's and other credentials thats needed to start using the web service of facebook. the issue i am having is that when my android application launces and tries to load the login page for facebook, that very same login page is blank and it only displays the the facebook logo as the title of the screen. • C# Dynamically created LinkButton Command Event Handler

  So I have a weird situation here... I have an System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.EditorPart class. It renders a "Search" button, when you click this button, it's clickHandler method does a DB search, and dynamically creates a LinkButton for each row it returns, sets the CommandName and CommandArgument properties and adds a CommandEventHandler method, then adds the LinkButton control to the page. The problem is, when you click a LinkButton, its CommandEventHandler method is never called, it looks like the page just posts back to where it was before the ORIGINAL "Search" button was pressed. I have seen postings saying that you need to add the event handlers in OnLoad() or some other early method, but my LinkButtons haven't even been created until the user tells us what to search for and hits the "Search" button... Any ideas on how to deal with this? Thanks!

• Facebox window closes after submit

  Hi all I have a question regarding Facebox. When I click a certain link on my page, the Facebox modal window opens just fine. But inside this modal window I'd like to have a form that users can submit. When the users click the submit-button, the whole page refreshes, and my Facebox-window is closed. This makes sense to me, but I'd like it to work differently. I want to give the user a confirmation, inside of the modal window, after they have submitted the form. So when a user clicks the submit-button, a confirmation should be showed inside og the modal-window. Anybody know if this is possible?   I'm passing the Folder.Id.UniqueId property of a folder retrieved from a FindFolders query via the query string to another page. On this second page I want to use that UniqueId to bind to the folder to list its mail items: string parentFolderId = Request.QueryString["id"]; ... Folder parentFolder = Folder.Bind(exchangeService, parentFolderId); // do something with parent folder When I run this code it throws an exception telling me the Id is manlformed. I thought maybe it needs to be wrapped in a FolderId object: Folder parentFolder = Folder.Bind(exchangeService, new FolderId(parentFolderId)); Same issue. I've been searching for a while, and have found some suggestions about Base64/UTF8 conversion, but again that did not solve the problem. Anyone know how to bind to a folder with a given unique id?

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application that requires a session variable be set. It's used throughout the app. It'll be set by either reading a hashed value on the browser cookie, or after having the user login. In the WebForms + Master Page model, I'd check the Page_Load() of the master page. Perhaps not the ultimate event, but it was an easy one to find. How would you check and enforce the existance of a session variable in ASP.NET MVC? Consider that this question might not involve user login details, but some other piece of data (first visit time, perhaps).

• Sandboxed Javascript Execution in an Internet Explorer Extension (BHO)

  Firefox has the Sandbox and evalInSandbox(). Chrome has sandboxed execution in their content scripts (they call it isolated execution). I'm looking for the same thing in an IE browser extension. I can load a javascript file, then call evalScript(), but the code executes in the same environment as javascript that exists on the page. I need a way to run my library (which includes and is based on jQuery) in an sandboxed/isolated environment, but still allow it to modify the DOM as if it were running on the page. Jint looks promising, but cannot currently evaluate jQuery. (They can parse it.) How can I do this?

• Telerik RadEditor for MOSS - How do I suppress min-width inline CSS?

  I'm having an issue with the RadEditor for MOSS, I'm really baffled as to the source of this issue. I tried using Firebug to find where any min-* CSS settings are happening and search came up empty, but I know it's happening because the downloaded page markup does not have that inline CSS. I believe that one of the Telerik control emitted Javascripts is what is adding inline CSS style to the top level div of the editor, namely min-height, min-width. This is causing layout issues on my page. • How can you get NVelocity to initialize correctly?

  I can't get NVelocity to initialize. I'm not trying to do anything complicated, so it's just fine if it initializes at the defaults, but it won't even do that. This: VelocityEngine velocity = new VelocityEngine(); ExtendedProperties props = new ExtendedProperties(); velocity.Init(props); Results in: "It appears that no class was specified as the ResourceManager..." So does this: VelocityEngine velocity = new VelocityEngine(); velocity.Init(); I can find precious little documentation on what the properties should be, nor how to get it to initialize with the simple defaults. Can anyone point to a resource? A lot of pages point back to this page: http://www.castleproject.org/others/nvelocity/usingit.html But this page skips over the (seemingly) most important point -- how to set the properties and what to set them to. I just want to load a simple template from a file.

• ASP.NET MVC Strongly Typed Partial View, gives could not load type error

  I am attempting to create a strongly typed view with a "MVC View User Control" that is being rendered using Html.RenderPartial(). The top of my ascx file looks like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>" %> There is nothing else on this page, currently. When I execute the app and load the page that renders this control, I get the following error: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>'. So, then I simplified it: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<String>" %> And then, just in case it needed to be fully qualified: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.String>" %> Everytime I get the same error (substituting type). what am I doing wrong here? I'm on .NET 3.5 with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 RTM.

  I use JQTouch for an iPhone app. JQtouch disable by default the possibility to pinch&zoom the page. For one page (containing a big image), i need to enable the pinch & zoom feature. This is easy : var viewport = $("head meta[name=viewport]"); viewport.attr('content', 'width=320, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=10.0, minimum-scale=1, user-scalable=1'); But after user has play with the pinch & zoom, I need to dynamically reset the zoom (scale) to the default. I tried to reset the viewport: viewport.attr('content', 'width=320, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0;'); After calling the above code, it's not possible to zoom anymore (because of user-scalable=0;), but it doesn't change the current scale to the default. I am looking for something like setScale(1), or to change an attribute like current-scale=1 Any idea ?

• Shared Cookies between WebView and HTTPClient?

  An Android app I am building requires web authentication for users to make data calls. In Adobe AIR and later the iPhone, we did this by rendering a login page in a webview-equivalent page and setting a cookie when the user signs in. Subsequent data calls use the same Cookie Jar and so are seen as authenticated. In the Android version, I authenticate the user using a WebView and then once thats done, I make a data call using DefaultHttpClient, however I cant seem to load the data on the second call. Is there some cookie gotcha I am missing? I imagine the HTTPClient and WebView would share the same Cookie space. Am I wrong?

  Using C# WATIN, how do I get the value of the second occurence of a INPUT tag html element on a page? I've tried a whole bunch of things and haven't succeeded. The debugger isn't giving me any obvious way to get element[1] among the 4 that returned. Console.WriteLine(ie.Element(Find.ByClass("myclass")).GetAttributeValue("value") ) ; // works but prints the value of the 1st of 4 input elements on the page Console.WriteLine(ie.ElementsWithTag("input", "text").Length.ToString() ); // returns the number 4 Console.WriteLine( ie.Element(Find.ByName("login")).GetAttributeValue("value") ); // works but its not safe since its possible there might be two elements with the name login Basically, I want to be able to select the input element by its array index.

• Google App Engine - Figure out the time the current request reached the app engine

  Is there a way I can figure out the time the current request reached the app engine? For example a user might make a request to my app, but due to app engine latencies my code might not start handling the request until one second later, is there a way I can figure out that the user has already had to wait one second? The reason I want to know how to do this is because I want to do different things based on if the user already had to wait. If the user already had to wait a significant amount of time I will just serve them a page out of the cache, if the user hasn't had to wait yet then I will serve them a page which takes a while to render.

• Checkbox not being checked when running function

  I have a checkbox that when it is clicked it submits the form to the server to store the detail. All works fine except that after the form is submitted I update a div to say submitted but the checkbox isn't ticked. The page isn't refreshed of course and upon page refresh it is ticked. I thought I might be able to check the box myself as I'm using jQuery but I have a lot of these checkboxes each with a dynamic name so I'm not sure how I would call them. I thought something like: $('input[name=("favourite" + id)]').attr('checked', true); might work but no luck. If I don't call the function on the checkbox being ticked the checkbox behaves normally. Thanks for anything that could help.

  Heyall, I am used to create some crawlers to compile information and as I come to a website I need the info I start a new crawler specific for that site, using shell scripts most of the time and sometime PHP. The way I do is with a simple for to iterate for the page list, a wget do download it and sed, tr, awk or other utilities to clean the page and grab the specific info I need. All the process takes some time depending on the site and more to download all pages. And I often steps into an AJAX site that complicates everything I was wondering if there is better ways to do that, faster ways or even some applications or languages to help such work.

• OAuth Callback procedure for mobile devices

  Hello, I am designing a Netflix Application for BlackBerry mobile devices. I am currently working on the OAuth. I am at the point where I can generate a Netflix login page in an embedded browser field in my application. After the user signs in, Netflix will send the user from the login page to a specified callback url. The callback url will also contain an authorized token, which is then needed to send back to Netflix. My question is: How am I supposed to do this on a mobile device? Is there a procedure set in place? I am unsure how I can extract the authorized token from the callback URL and send it back to my application. From my research, it does not appear that Netflix will provide a PIN/verifier for the user to then type into the application... Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

  Hello all, I have read through all relevant posts on Prawn but found no mentioning (even in Prawn's own documentation) of headers and footers. However, I did see a demo on Prawnto's own website about headers and footers. I copied the entire source of that demo just to see if it works but an error of undefined method "header" is complained about. Am I to understand that Prawn took out header and footer recently in the gem or is there something else I need to do first to use header and footer? • Multiple calls with Simple Modal OSX Style Dialog

  I am using Simple Modal, the OSX style version. I have two calls to the modal and therefore two versions of content. When either of the buttons is clicked it selects only the first lot of content. There is nowhere to put a hook on the content like most modal windows as there is no javascript on the page to add parameters... only an external .js file which I don't want to touch for obvious reasons.
