  • Trouble connecting to vsftpd on ubuntu server

    I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 and I am using it to host a domain that I have. I am trying to set up FTP for the server, but I am running into some problems. I have successfully installed vsFTPd and I have opened up ports 20, 21 on my firewall. In my vsFTPd configuration, I have enabled SSL. Every time I try to connect to my server via FTP, I receive a "Connection Refused" error. I have had a little more success with SSL disabled, however the connection process will time out after the LIST command (but it does accept my authentication). Here is my vsFTPd configuration, the SSL stuff is at the bottom: # Example config file /etc/vsftpd.conf # # The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid.   • Get XML from Server for Use on Windows Phone

    When working with mobile devices you always need to take into account bandwidth usage and power consumption. If you are constantly connecting to a server to retrieve data for an input screen, then you might think about moving some of that data down to the phone and cache the data on the phone. An example would be a static list of US State Codes that you are asking the user to select from. Since this is data that does not change very often, this is one set of data that would be great to cache on the phone. Since the Windows Phone does not have an embedded database, you can just use an XML string stored in Isolated Storage. Of course, then you need to figure out how to get data down to the phone. You can either ship it with the application, or connect and retrieve the data from your server one time and thereafter cache it and retrieve it from the cache. In this blog post you will see how to create a WCF service to retrieve data from a Product table in a database and send that data as XML to the phone and store it in Isolated Storage. You will then read that data from Isolated Storage using LINQ to XML and display it in a ListBox. Step 1: Create a Windows Phone Application The first step is to create a Windows Phone application called WP_GetXmlFromDataSet (or whatever you want to call it). On the MainPage.xaml add the following XAML within the “ContentPanel” grid: <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnGetXml"          Content="Get XML"          Click="btnGetXml_Click" />  <Button Name="btnRead"          Content="Read XML"          IsEnabled="False"          Click="btnRead_Click" />  <ListBox Name="lstData"            Height="430"            ItemsSource="{Binding}"            DisplayMemberPath="ProductName" /></StackPanel> Now it is time to create the WCF Service Application that you will call to get the XML from a table in a SQL Server database. Step 2: Create a WCF Service Application Add a new project to your solution called WP_GetXmlFromDataSet.Services. Delete the IService1.* and Service1.* files and the App_Data folder, as you don’t generally need these items. Add a new WCF Service class called ProductService. In the IProductService class modify the void DoWork() method with the following code: [OperationContract]string GetProductXml(); Open the code behind in the ProductService.svc and create the GetProductXml() method. This method (shown below) will connect up to a database and retrieve data from a Product table. public string GetProductXml(){  string ret = string.Empty;  string sql = string.Empty;  SqlDataAdapter da;  DataSet ds = new DataSet();   sql = "SELECT ProductId, ProductName,";  sql += " IntroductionDate, Price";  sql += " FROM Product";   da = new SqlDataAdapter(sql,    ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["Sandbox"].ConnectionString);   da.Fill(ds);   // Create Attribute based XML  foreach (DataColumn col in ds.Tables[0].Columns)  {    col.ColumnMapping = MappingType.Attribute;  }   ds.DataSetName = "Products";  ds.Tables[0].TableName = "Product";  ret = ds.GetXml();   return ret;} After retrieving the data from the Product table using a DataSet, you will want to set each column’s ColumnMapping property to Attribute. Using attribute based XML will make the data transferred across the wire a little smaller. You then set the DataSetName property to the top-level element name you want to assign to the XML. You then set the TableName property on the DataTable to the name you want each element to be in your XML. The last thing you need to do is to call the GetXml() method on the DataSet object which will return an XML string of the data in your DataSet object. This is the value that you will return from the service call. The XML that is returned from the above call looks like the following: <Products>  <Product ProductId="1"           ProductName="PDSA .NET Productivity Framework"           IntroductionDate="9/3/2010"           Price="5000" />  <Product ProductId="3"           ProductName="Haystack Code Generator for .NET"           IntroductionDate="7/1/2010"           Price="599.00" />  ...  ...  ... </Products> The GetProductXml() method uses a connection string from the Web.Config file, so add a <connectionStrings> element to the Web.Config file in your WCF Service application. Modify the settings shown below as needed for your server and database name. <connectionStrings>  <add name="Sandbox"        connectionString="Server=Localhost;Database=Sandbox;                         Integrated Security=Yes"/></connectionStrings> The Product Table You will need a Product table that you can read data from. I used the following structure for my product table. Add any data you want to this table after you create it in your database. CREATE TABLE Product(  ProductId int PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,  ProductName varchar(50) NOT NULL,  IntroductionDate datetime NULL,  Price money NULL) Step 3: Connect to WCF Service from Windows Phone Application Back in your Windows Phone application you will now need to add a Service Reference to the WCF Service application you just created. Right-mouse click on the Windows Phone Project and choose Add Service Reference… from the context menu. Click on the Discover button. In the Namespace text box enter “ProductServiceRefrence”, then click the OK button. If you entered everything correctly, Visual Studio will generate some code that allows you to connect to your Product service. On the MainPage.xaml designer window double click on the Get XML button to generate the Click event procedure for this button. In the Click event procedure make a call to a GetXmlFromServer() method. This method will also need a “Completed” event procedure to be written since all communication with a WCF Service from Windows Phone must be asynchronous.  Write these two methods as follows: private const string KEY_NAME = "ProductData"; private void GetXmlFromServer(){  ProductServiceClient client = new ProductServiceClient();   client.GetProductXmlCompleted += new     EventHandler<GetProductXmlCompletedEventArgs>      (client_GetProductXmlCompleted);   client.GetProductXmlAsync();  client.CloseAsync();} void client_GetProductXmlCompleted(object sender,                                   GetProductXmlCompletedEventArgs e){  // Store XML data in Isolated Storage  IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings[KEY_NAME] = e.Result;   btnRead.IsEnabled = true;} As you can see, this is a fairly standard call to a WCF Service. In the Completed event you get the Result from the event argument, which is the XML, and store it into Isolated Storage using the IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings class. Notice the constant that I added to specify the name of the key. You will use this constant later to read the data from Isolated Storage. Step 4: Create a Product Class Even though you stored XML data into Isolated Storage when you read that data out you will want to convert each element in the XML file into an actual Product object. This means that you need to create a Product class in your Windows Phone application. Add a Product class to your project that looks like the code below: public class Product{  public string ProductName{ get; set; }  public int ProductId{ get; set; }  public DateTime IntroductionDate{ get; set; }  public decimal Price{ get; set; }} Step 5: Read Settings from Isolated Storage Now that you have the XML data stored in Isolated Storage, it is time to use it. Go back to the MainPage.xaml design view and double click on the Read XML button to generate the Click event procedure. From the Click event procedure call a method named ReadProductXml().Create this method as shown below: private void ReadProductXml(){  XElement xElem = null;   if (IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings.Contains(KEY_NAME))  {    xElem = XElement.Parse(     IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings[KEY_NAME].ToString());     // Create a list of Product objects    var products =         from prod in xElem.Descendants("Product")        orderby prod.Attribute("ProductName").Value        select new Product        {          ProductId = Convert.ToInt32(prod.Attribute("ProductId").Value),          ProductName = prod.Attribute("ProductName").Value,          IntroductionDate =             Convert.ToDateTime(prod.Attribute("IntroductionDate").Value),          Price = Convert.ToDecimal(prod.Attribute("Price").Value)        };     lstData.DataContext = products;  }} The ReadProductXml() method checks to make sure that the key name that you saved your XML as exists in Isolated Storage prior to trying to open it. If the key name exists, then you retrieve the value as a string. Use the XElement’s Parse method to convert the XML string to a XElement object. LINQ to XML is used to iterate over each element in the XElement object and create a new Product object from each attribute in your XML file. The LINQ to XML code also orders the XML data by the ProductName. After the LINQ to XML code runs you end up with an IEnumerable collection of Product objects in the variable named “products”. You assign this collection of product data to the DataContext of the ListBox you created in XAML. The DisplayMemberPath property of the ListBox is set to “ProductName” so it will now display the product name for each row in your products collection. Summary In this article you learned how to retrieve an XML string from a table in a database, return that string across a WCF Service and store it into Isolated Storage on your Windows Phone. You then used LINQ to XML to create a collection of Product objects from the data stored and display that data in a Windows Phone list box.   • Entity Framework 6: Alpha2 Now Available

    The Entity Framework team recently announced the 2nd alpha release of EF6.   The alpha 2 package is available for download from NuGet. Since this is a pre-release package make sure to select “Include Prereleases” in the NuGet package manager, or execute the following from the package manager console to install it: PM> Install-Package EntityFramework -Pre This week’s alpha release includes a bunch of great improvements in the following areas: Async language support is now available for queries and updates when running on .NET 4.5. Custom conventions now provide the ability to override the default conventions that Code First uses for mapping types, properties, etc. to your database. Multi-tenant migrations allow the same database to be used by multiple contexts with full Code First Migrations support for independently evolving the model backing each context. Using Enumerable.Contains in a LINQ query is now handled much more efficiently by EF and the SQL Server provider resulting greatly improved performance. All features of EF6 (except async) are available on both .NET 4 and .NET 4.5. This includes support for enums and spatial types and the performance improvements that were previously only available when using .NET 4.5. Start-up time for many large models has been dramatically improved thanks to improved view generation performance. Below are some additional details about a few of the improvements above: Async Support .NET 4.5 introduced the Task-Based Asynchronous Pattern that uses the async and await keywords to help make writing asynchronous code easier. EF 6 now supports this pattern. This is great for ASP.NET applications as database calls made through EF can now be processed asynchronously – avoiding any blocking of worker threads. This can increase scalability on the server by allowing more requests to be processed while waiting for the database to respond. The following code shows an MVC controller that is querying a database for a list of location entities:     public class HomeController : Controller     {         LocationContext db = new LocationContext();           public async Task<ActionResult> Index()         {             var locations = await db.Locations.ToListAsync();               return View(locations);         }     } Notice above the call to the new ToListAsync method with the await keyword. When the web server reaches this code it initiates the database request, but rather than blocking while waiting for the results to come back, the thread that is processing the request returns to the thread pool, allowing ASP.NET to process another incoming request with the same thread. In other words, a thread is only consumed when there is actual processing work to do, allowing the web server to handle more concurrent requests with the same resources. A more detailed walkthrough covering async in EF is available with additional information and examples. Also a walkthrough is available showing how to use async in an ASP.NET MVC application. Custom Conventions When working with EF Code First, the default behavior is to map .NET classes to tables using a set of conventions baked into EF. For example, Code First will detect properties that end with “ID” and configure them automatically as primary keys. However, sometimes you cannot or do not want to follow those conventions and would rather provide your own. For example, maybe your primary key properties all end in “Key” instead of “Id”. Custom conventions allow the default conventions to be overridden or new conventions to be added so that Code First can map by convention using whatever rules make sense for your project. The following code demonstrates using custom conventions to set the precision of all decimals to 5. As with other Code First configuration, this code is placed in the OnModelCreating method which is overridden on your derived DbContext class:         protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)         {             modelBuilder.Properties<decimal>()                 .Configure(x => x.HasPrecision(5));           } But what if there are a couple of places where a decimal property should have a different precision? Just as with all the existing Code First conventions, this new convention can be overridden for a particular property simply by explicitly configuring that property using either the fluent API or a data annotation. A more detailed description of custom code first conventions is available here. Community Involvement I blogged a while ago about EF being released under an open source license.  Since then a number of community members have made contributions and these are included in EF6 alpha 2. Two examples of community contributions are: AlirezaHaghshenas contributed a change that increases the startup performance of EF for larger models by improving the performance of view generation. The change means that it is less often necessary to use of pre-generated views. UnaiZorrilla contributed the first community feature to EF: the ability to load all Code First configuration classes in an assembly with a single method call like the following: protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder) {        modelBuilder.Configurations            .AddFromAssembly(typeof(LocationContext).Assembly); } This code will find and load all the classes that inherit from EntityTypeConfiguration<T> or ComplexTypeConfiguration<T> in the assembly where LocationContext is defined. This reduces the amount of coupling between the context and Code First configuration classes, and is also a very convenient shortcut for large models. Other upcoming features coming in EF 6 Lots of information about the development of EF6 can be found on the EF CodePlex site, including a roadmap showing the other features that are planned for EF6. One of of the nice upcoming features is connection resiliency, which will automate the process of retying database operations on transient failures common in cloud environments and with databases such as the Windows Azure SQL Database. Another often requested feature that will be included in EF6 is the ability to map stored procedures to query and update operations on entities when using Code First. Summary EF6 is the first open source release of Entity Framework being developed in CodePlex. The alpha 2 preview release of EF6 is now available on NuGet, and contains some really great features for you to try. The EF team are always looking for feedback from developers - especially on the new features such as custom Code First conventions and async support.   • Powerpoint missing from DCOM config

    I have an application that automates the creation of powerpoint files in an ASP.NET environment. This requires that I install powerpoint on the server and also set permissions in the DCOM configuration snap-in (dcomcnfg) to give permissions to the launching user ([DOMAIN]\ASPNET in this case) to run the application. I have this setup running successfully on several Win2k3 machines. I am configuring my first Win2k8 machine and after installing powerpoint on the server, the "Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation" node in DCOM config is not showing up. Other installed Office apps are showing (Excel, Graph, etc...), just not Powerpoint. So when I attempt to run the application, I get an "Access denied" error, which is exactly what I would expect. The user doesn't have permission. Therefore, access denied. The specific error log entry is: The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {91493441-5A91-11CF-8700-00AA0060263B} to the user [DOMAIN]\ASPNET I searched the entire list for the CLSID, too, thinking maybe the name wasn't loading properly. No dice. I also re-ran the setup program for Office thinking maybe there would be some option or something I unchecked in the custom setup options, but I saw nothing that looked helpful. I'm flummoxed. Can anyone out there suggest something to help me get Powerpoint to show up in the list of DCOM applications? Many thanks.

  • SChannel "cannot find certificate in either LocalMachine or CurrentUser store"

    We have an in-house application that requires the use of client SSL certificates to authenticate with a remote server (not under our control). This has worked without problems before but on deploying to a new server, we're having problems getting Windows 2008 to use the certificate. The certificate exists as a .pfx file that contains a private key. The same certificate exists in the LocalMachine store, again with its private key. We've ensured the one in the LocalMachine store is correct by creating a website in IIS against that certificate, so we're happy that the certificate, certificate chain, and private key is valid. The PFX has been created by exporting from the Certificates MMC snap-in. The issue is that we get the following in the system diagnostic logs that suggests it can't find the private key: System.Net Information: 0 : [5988] SecureChannel#23264094 – Locating the private key for the certificate: [Subject] CN=internal-server.company.com, OU=Servers, OU=Devices, O=org [Issuer] CN=SubCA02, OU=CA, o=org [Serial Number] 407ABCDE [Not Before] 31/10/2013 11:08:48 AM [Not After] 31/10/2016 11:08:48 AM [Thumbprint] 4354A34F6004F019E60F055979A47E50F62D1504 . System.Net Information: 0 : [5988] SecureChannel#23264094 – Cannot find the certificate in either the LocalMachine store or the CurrentUser store. I've validated the thumbprint, issuer and serial number listed in the log with the certificate in the LocalMachine store and these marry up. From what I can tell with much searching, this appears to be a permissions issue. The user the application is running as has been granted access to the private key (Personal Certificates - right click on the certificate - all tasks - Manage Private Keys), so I'm now at a loss as to which permission(s) it may be that is causing the issue.

  • AWStats on Plesk consumes all of CPU and crashes server - how do you disable plesk

    I have Plesk 9.0.1 running on a Red Hat server. Every week or so at about 4:10 AM the server locks up. At this time the server CPU usage shoots from 4% to 90% at the same time as a mass of awstats.pl processes start (I can't see how many as my datat only shows the top 30 processes, but all of these are awstats.pl). I turned off awstats through the Plesk control panel for all but 5 domains but I still get 90% CPU usage and at least 30 instances of awstats.pl happening at 4:10am as usual. Does anyone know why this may be? Does anyone know how to disable awstats (I have stats covered using piwik)? Or how do I uninstall awstats without snarling up Plesk?

  • Windows scheduled task fails to complete with error code 0xc000013a

    I'm using Windows Server 2003 and have a scheduled task that fails to complete. The task is set to run a Windows Command Script (.cmd) at 3pm each day. The script runs a program that extracts some data from a SQL Server database and uploads that data to an FTP server. The error code displayed in the "Last result" column of the scheduled tasks folder is 0xc000013a. A quick Google search leads to this Microsoft support page that states: The most common "C" error code is "0xC000013A: The application terminated as a result of a CTRL+C". No-one is logged in at the time the task runs, so there's no-one around to press CTRL+C. I'm not sure I understand what is being said here in the Microsoft documentation. I've checked the rudimentary things - the scheduled task is enabled, scheduled to run each day, and pointing to a file that does exist in a valid location. Interestingly, when I run this task manually (either by running the .cmd script from the command line, or by right-clicking the task and clicking "Run") the task completes successfully. What does this error code mean, and how can I get this task to run when I'm not there to force it?

  • Windows 2008, IIS7 and virtual directories

    I created a virtual directory called test (C:\test) under the Default Web Site and added two simple test files (one html and one aspx). I thought I had to add the IUSR and NetworkService (for application pools) to C:\test and grant the users appropriate rights in order for IIS7 to serve the content. It appears that is not the case at all as I can view any files in the virtual directory (even if I convert it to an application) without changing or adding any security settings on the C:\test folder. I just installed IIS7 with ASP.NET on Windows 2008 without changing any settings besides adding the virtual directory. Am I missing something? Even my book on IIS7 states that the user accounts should be added an appropriate rights should be added. I added the following to answer the comments: I am referencing the file using a public IP http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/test/one.html and the IP nor localhost is in my trusted sites. I am not signed in on the server at all as I am accessing the content from my home machine and the content is on my production server. The following users/groups have access to c:\test on the server (Creator Owner, System, Administrators, Users) and the app pool is running under the default NetworkService account. I basically installed win2008, added the IIS role with asp.net. I then opened IIS7, added a virtual directory and copied two files to the directory to test. It works which is great but I want to understand why it works. How is it that IIS7 can access files in the C:\test folder without any permissions set.

  • Backup multiple Exchange Accounts without direct access to exchange server

    For e-mail, we use Microsoft Exchange and it is hosted by 1and1.com. We have about 30 Exchange accounts that I would like to backup to a PST file. That is, for each account that we have (all 30), I would like to create a single PST file (1.pst thru 30.pst). I do not have direct access to the Exchange server. Basically, for each Exchange account, I can supply: The IP address for the Exchange server or the URL to the OWA. The Username The Password Is there a tool out there that can do this for me? It seems that Microsoft's "Online Services Migration Tools" comes awfully close, but it appears that its geared to pull data out of any Exchange server and push it into Microsoft Online. I don't believe it can be used to simply pull the data out and generate PST's.

  • Send email from server to Google Apps email address (same domains)

    I'm sending email from a server, let's say domain.com. I also have Google Apps email set up for hosted email, same domain, domain.com. If I get mail sent to me from anywhere else, I receive things just fine. However, if the email originates from my server, it just ends up in /var/mail/root as a delivery error saying the user is unknown. I created a user on the server for the name which is having trouble, [email protected]. Retried sending and it sends, but not to my hosted email at Google Apps. I just receive it at /var/mail/webmaster now. I'm using sendmail. I messed around with /etc/aliases but adding webmaster: [email protected] looked useless (and I was right.) Any help?

    I have System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 installed, and have a Hyper-V R2 host and a Virtual Server 2005 host. I'm trying to migrate my machines from the VS2005 host to the Hyper-V host, and keep getting the following error... VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server myserver.mydomain.local could not be established. (Unknown error (0x80072efd)) Recommended Action Ensure that the HTTP service and/or the agent on the machine myserver.mydomain.local are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS traffic. (Note - migrations between Hyper-V hosts managed by the VMM server work fine - my problem is just going from VS2005-Hyper-V hosts) I have no firewalls turned on on either of the servers, and no firewalls in the middle. I've looked all over for answers to this problem, and am getting nowhere. All the articles I find when searching are talking about either V2V or P2V - and i'm just trying to do a straight migrate VM. I've tried rebooting the boxes, changing the BITS SSL port number, restarting services, triple-checking firewalls, etc. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem?

  • iSCSI errors continue after removing inaccessible target portal

    By mistake I entered an iSCSI target portal address in the iSCSI Initiator on one of our virtual servers that does not have an address in the network range used for iSCSI. This caused the following errors/warnings to appear in the eventlog: Log Name: System Source: MSiSCSI Event ID: 113 Level: Warning Description: iSCSI discovery via SendTargets failed with error code 0xefff0003 to target portal *192.168.23.42 0003260 Root\ISCSIPRT\0000_0 . Log Name: System Source: iScsiPrt Event ID: 1 Level: Error Description: Initiator failed to connect to the target. Target IP address and TCP Port number are given in dump data. Log Name: System Source: iScsiPrt Event ID: 70 Level: Error Description: Error occurred when processing iSCSI logon request. The request was not retried. Error status is given in the dump data. So far that's expected beahvior, so I removed the portal from the iSCSI Initiator as described in MSKB 976072. However, the errors/warnings keep appearing every hour, even though neither iSCSI Initiator GUI nor iscscli show any portals: C:\>iscsicli ListTargetPortals Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Version 6.1 Build 7601 The operation completed successfully. The problem persists after rebooting the server. Uninstalling the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator device via devmgmt.msc as well as changing the Initiator parameters like this: [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "MaxPendingRequests"=dword:00000001 "MaxConnectionRetries"=dword:00000001 "MaxRequestHoldTime"=dword:00000005 didn't help either. Each change was followed by a reboot. Disabling the device does prevent the errors/warnings from re-appearing, of course, but I'd rather not have to resort to this. How can I prevent those errors and warnings from appearing (short of disabling the initiator device or re-installing the server)? What am I missing? Environment: The virtual machine runs on a Hyper-V cluster managed by SCVMM 2012. Hosts and guests run Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The physical machines are Dell PowerEdge M710HD blades.

    I'm setting up a new web server that hosts a dozen virtual hosts on Ubuntu 12.4 using Apache 2.2.22 with one config file per site. I created all the configuration files all at once and ran a2ensite * to enable them all at once. When I reloaded the configuration it failed and after restarting apache I found the following error message in my error.log: Oops, no RSA or DSA server certificate found for 'server.host.name:0'?! Most of the results for this error message are years old that don't fix the problem or are bugs that have been fixed https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=31709

  • Setup Exchange 2007 ActiveSync web application on a separate server

    Hello, I have Exchange 2007 installed on SBS 2008. I also run a web server on the network. I only have one static IP and all traffic trough port 443 is routed to the webserver. I would like to publish the ActiveSync application externally. If i temporarily route 443 traffic to the SBS then it is published (along with owa and everything else which i don't want). Is there a way to host the ActiveSync application on the web server (Server 2008 with IIS7) or to get it to route traffic meant for the ActiveSync application? I have tried creating a site on the webserver which uses the ActiveSync folder on the SBS but that does not seem to work. Thanks, Michael

    I have a Debian server with one static external IP. It has PPTP server installed. Local IP is 192.168.1.200 and remote IPs are 192.168.1.201-209. I have several users, who connect to my server using their routers through the Internet. VPN work flawlessly. Routers have UPnP enabled, but devices, that use UPnP, are reporting no UPnP available. What rules do I need in iptables to make it work? Thanks.

  • Migrating a virtual domain controller for DR exercise

    Hello gurus, I have a question. I have a requirement where I have a virtual domain controller and I have to migrate it to another virtual server in a different location. It is for test purposes to test out a DR scenario and the test will be deemed successful if the users that authenticate using the production DC can do so in the backup DC. I don't know much about this and thus don't know why it was assigned to me. So any assistance will be greatly appreciated. What I had in mind was: 1) Taking a snapshot of the production server and then restoring it in the other server. But I was told that this is not the suggested way of doing it. I was not told why. Is that right?If a snapshot is to be taken then what is the best way to do it. Any ideas on where I can get the documentation for this? 2) Another way would be to build the test DC from ground up, match it to the specs of production DC and then perform the DR test. Is this a better option? What will be needed to perform such an activity? Where can I find documentation on that? I apologise for the length of this query. As I said I am quite a novice and hope to get a better resolution. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Regards,

    Hello! I have a web server based on Ubuntu Server 9.10 with this software: apache 2 PHP 5.3 MySQL 5 Python 2.5 Few of my websites are PHP based, few use python/django through mod_wsgi. For month or so, every day my apache server stops responding until I manually restart it. I tried to google this problem but it seems, that I can't find a solution there. How can I determine the cause of this error and how do I fix it? Thank you for your help.   • Windows or Linux for VPN-VPN Bridge

    I have the following network layout: Network1 ----VPN1-----Network2----VPN2----Network3 I can administer everything in Network1 only and my goal is to get to a box on Network3. I've been told by the admins of Network2 that it's not possible for them to route traffic from Network1 to Network3. I've finally been authorised to host a box in Network2 and I'm hoping with this I can set something up to resolve the issue. My question is should I set this up as a Windows or a Linux box. My initial thought was to use iptables to reroute requests but with my lack of experience with Windows Server (used for something or other in Network2) I'm not sure if this will work. My head's full of questions like: - can I get an ip without logging in to a windows domain? - if I do get an ip, do Windows Servers manage routing through the VPN? - can I make a linux box authenticate with Windows Server to log on to the domain? - would it just be easier to set up a windows box? - is it possible to configure a windows box to do routing from Network1 to Network3? Has anyone done anything like this before? Had experience managing Windows Server? Authenticated (or not as the case may be) to a Windows domain? I'd really appreciate your advice. It might be worth mentioning that the overall objective is to establish a telnet connection from a box on Network1 to a box on Network3.

  • SCVMM 2008 R2 problems migrating VM from VS2005 to Hyper-V host

    I have System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 installed, and have a Hyper-V R2 host and a Virtual Server 2005 host. I'm trying to migrate my machines from the VS2005 host to the Hyper-V host, and keep getting the following error... VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server myserver.mydomain.local could not be established. (Unknown error (0x80072efd)) Recommended Action Ensure that the HTTP service and/or the agent on the machine myserver.mydomain.local are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS traffic. (Note - migrations between Hyper-V hosts managed by the VMM server work fine - my problem is just going from VS2005-Hyper-V hosts) I have no firewalls turned on on either of the servers, and no firewalls in the middle. I've looked all over for answers to this problem, and am getting nowhere. All the articles I find when searching are talking about either V2V or P2V - and i'm just trying to do a straight migrate VM. I've tried rebooting the boxes, changing the BITS SSL port number, restarting services, triple-checking firewalls, etc. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem?
