  • Creating a textarea with auto-resize

    There was another thread about this, which I've tried. But there is one problem: the textarea doesn't shrink if you delete the content. I can't find any way to shrink it to the correct size - the clientHeight value comes back as the full size of the textarea, not its contents. The code from that page is below.     Hi guys, Recently I've being given a chance to develop a PMS (Practice Management System) software for a small physiotherapy clinic. I'm a computer science student and my course is predominately told on Linux. However, my client runs all their computers on vista or Windows 7. My ideas are to develop the client front end in Visual C# and access a central postgresql server. I'm a beginner in Windows Programming so I'm after advice on best practice on implement user rights and access levels in C# (WPF or Windows FORM). I've had a look into Credential class in Visual C# and access control list but please share your thoughts. I'm probably way over my head on this but this is my first commercial project so I'm keen to test the waters. Cheers Ian

  • width:auto for <input> fields

    Newbie CSS question. I thought 'width:auto' for a display:block element meant 'fill available space'. However for an <input> element this doesn't seem to be the case. For example: <body> <form style='background-color:red'> <input type='text' style='background-color:green;display:block;width:auto'> </form> </body> Two questions then: Is there a definition of exactly what width:auto does mean? The CSS spec seems vague to me, but maybe I missed the relevant section. Is there a way to achieve my expected behaviour for a input field - ie. fill available space like other block level elements do? Thanks!

This is because the div hit its max width of 300px and then wrapped the b's to a 2nd line. The wrapping is good, but then I would expect the div to then shrink back down to the width of the a's so that there's no empty space to the right. Is it possible to get it to do this? Tested in Chrome and FF.

  • Different data for different dates

    I am making a web page which will allow users to input and view data for different dates, and to change the date, there are two buttons, one of which will display the previous day, and one which will show the next day. I know that I can do this by submitting forms and reloading the page every time they press one of these buttons, but I would rather use javascript and not have to submit a form, but I am having troubles getting it to work. So here are my questions: 1) Is it possible to dynamically change data (such as text, and in the future, SQL queries) on a page using javascript without having to reload a page when clicking on a button? 2) If possible, how can I make those changes? 3) How can I fix this so that it will increment and decrement through dates every time a button is clicked?

  • Adding a border (Fixed3D) to an existing borderless application

    Hi there, I have an .NET application that always starts itself with its border style to 'None', as it is supposed to be an full-screen application with a fixed resolution. However, i would like to add the window border (Fixed3D) to this window when the application starts so that I am able to move it around my desktop. My first idea was to have a tray app running, monitoring event messages, and somehow change the window style when this specific application starts. However, I am not sure if this will work and how to do this. Anyone that can point me in the right direction?

  • Styling related issue in IE8

    I am using a background image to display as a button. The button shows up well in all versions of firefox, chrome, opera etc. However, the image fails to render itself in IE8. Only the image is not being shown, some of the other class styling gets applied such as width, height etc. Even more confounding is that in another page(though a different class and style sheet), an image of similar proportions gets displayed in similar usage. The image format is JPG. I'm copy-pasting the valid style attributes for both cases as shown by firebug below.   • Prototype setStyle not working in IE6.

    Hi, I'm using prototype and setStyle in IE6 is just messing everything up. It's throwing a big error. I've Googled it but cant find a solution.   • Dynamic themes and custom styles

    I've got an app with two themes (dark and light) that can be selected at runtime. This works. I also have a ListView with rows that can have one of three different layouts, each of which has a style (say, different colors). This also works. But I can't get these two features to work together. I really need six different styles, three for one theme (dark) and three for the other (light), but I can't figure out how to choose a style for a list item based on the current theme, or get that effect any other way by using XML files. My three layouts each point to a custom theme that sets the color, but that overrides whatever theme I've got set. Themes can only contain items that are "styleable", so I can't put my own custom items in there. There may be a way to do this programmatically, but I was hoping to do it declaratively. Any ideas?

  • How to enable real time CSS editing in chrome?

    I have seem a lot of videos in which developers changing CSS on the fly in chrome. I tried the same thing but chrome dod not allow me to change the code. I can't write on the style sheet. Is there any specific setting to do this? Kindly help. EDIT: To edit the css, I right clock on an element, select inspect element. It will open the console. I select the id of the element and go to style.css in resource and try to change the css. It do not allow me to write there.
