    How would I bind the IsChecked member of a CheckBox to a member variable in my form? (I realize I can access it directly, but I am trying to learn about databinding and WPF) Below is my failed attempt to get this working.   • WCF "The server did not provide a meaningful reply"

    I am out of ideas here, so I'm hoping someone can help. Here is what I've got: A WCF service that only has a basicHttpBinding endpoint. There is only a service interface, all other [DataMember], [FaultContract] are concrete types. When I run it straight from Visual Studio (using WCF Test Client or my custom app) everything works (I send a request and get a response). This usually takes a second or two. I published it to an IIS 6 server. I can successfully open http://server/WebService/WebService.svc?WSDL I can successfully open http://server/WebService/WebService.svc/mex (same output as above) The WCF Test Client and my custom app can successfully add the service reference Whenever I try to call a service method it waits for about 15 seconds and I get the dreaded "no meaningful reply" error. I ran Fiddler and I got a 202 result, which would seem like a success. It's not returning more than 65536 bytes It's returning an array, but it is small I tried remote debugging, but can't get that to work, probably due to a firewall (but port 80 is open, I can get the WSDL) I enabled system.diagnostics, nothing. I have an IErrorHandler which normally logs things, nothing. Here's the endpoint config: <endpoint address="" binding="basicHttpBinding" contract="Enterprise.IMyService" bindingNamespace="http://ourdomain.com/MyService/"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> Anything else I can try?   • How create a Firefox-like search textbox in WPF?

    Hey there. I'm writing an application in WPF using the MVVM-pattern and will really often use TextBoxes. I don't want to use labels for the user to know user what the text box is for, i.e. I don't want something like this: <TextBlock> Name: </TextBlock> <TextBox /> Instead, I would like the TextBox to contain its own label. Statically, you would express it like this: <TextBox>Name</TextBox> If the cursor is displayed in the textbox, i.e. the TextBox gains focus, I want the description text to disappear. If the TextBox is left empty and it loses the focus, the description text should be shown again. It's similar to the search textbox of StackOverflow or the one of Firefox. (please tell me if your not sure what I mean). One TextBox's label may change at runtime, dependending on e.g. a ComboBox's selected element or a value in my ViewModel. (It's like in Firefox's search TextBox, if you select google from the search engins' menu, the TextBox's label changes to "Google", if you select "Yahoo" its set to "Yahoo"). Thus I want to be able to bind the label's content. Consider that I may already have a Binding on the Text-Property of the TextBox. How can implement such a behaviour and make it reusable for any of my TextBox's? Code is welcome but not needed; a description of what to do is enough. Thank you in advance.

    I have a JAX-WS client that needs to have a modified handler-chain. I am currently doing it by binding this XML when generated the WSDL stubs: <jaxws:bindings xmlns:jaxws="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxws"> <jws:handler-chains xmlns:jws="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"> <jws:handler-chain> <jws:handler> <jws:handler-name>ServiceRequestServiceClientHandler</jws:handler-name> <jws:handler-class>blah.ServiceRequestServiceClientHandler</jws:handler-class> </jws:handler> </jws:handler-chain> </jws:handler-chains> </jaxws:bindings> I was looking that the ServiceRequestService_Service object, and it seems like this could be done programmatically (easier in my opinion - less configuration files). new ServiceRequestService_Service().getHandlerResolver().getHandlerChain(PORTINFO).add(HANDLER); But, I do not know what the PortInfo object is, or how to obtain it in relation to the specific service. Has anyone done this?

But if you think I can achieve what I need only with config files, then OK, I'll use them.   • Understanding ServiceKnownType in WCF

    I am having a little trouble understanding ServiceKnownType in WCF. Taken from this blog, the following code does not work: [DataContract(Namespace = “http://mycompany.com/”)] public class Shape{…} [DataContract(Namespace = “http://mycompany.com/”)] public class Circle : Shape {…} [ServiceContract] public interface IMyServer { [OperationContract] bool AddShape(Shape shape); } . IMyServer client = new ChannelFactory<IMyServer>(binding, endPoint).CreateChannel(); client.AddShape(new Circle()); The reason it doesn't work is because you are trying to add a circle, but the servicecontract only allows a Shape. You are supposed to do something with knowntypes, but I am a bit confused about how that works. Since that code is in the service, why doesn't it know automatically that a Circle is derived from Shape? Additionally, what does ServiceKnownType actually do? When ServiceKnownType is put below the DataContract, apparently that makes it work. I am guessing it says hey, this particular object type called Shape can also be a Circle. I am having trouble understanding why it would do it this way around, because if you add a new type like Square you are going to have to add that too, wouldn't it make sense if it cannot infer it, to put the KnownType onto the Square rather than the Shape? So the Square says hey, I am a Shape, and you don't have to fiddle with the Shape class?

    I am having problems getting a databound radiobutton listbox in WPF to respond to user input and reflect changes to the data it's bound to (i.e., to making changes in the code). The user input side works fine (i.e., I can select a radiobutton and the list behaves as expected). But every attempt to change the selection in code fails. Silently (i.e., no exception). It doesn't solve the problem.   • Using two versions of the same assembly (system.web.mvc) at the same time

    I'm using a content management system whose admin interface uses MVC 1.0. I would like to build the public parts of the site using MVC 2. If I just reference System.Web.Mvc version 2 in my project the admin mode doesn't work as the reference to System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage created by the views in the admin interface is ambiguous: The type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' is ambiguous: it could come from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\2.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll' or from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\1.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll'. Please specify the assembly explicitly in the type name. I could easily work around this by using binding redirects to specify that MVC 2 should always be used. Unfortunately the content management systems admin mode isn't compatible with MVC 2. I'm not exactly sure why, but I start getting a bunch of null reference exceptions in some of it's actions when I try it and the developers of the CMS have confirmed that it isn't compatible with MVC 2 (yet). The admin interface which is accessed through domain.com/admin is not physically located in webroot/admin but in the program files folder on the server and domain.com/admin is instead routed there using a virtual path provider. Therefor, putting a separate web.config file in the admin folder to specify a different version of System.Web.Mvc for that part of the site isn't an option as that won't fly when using shared hosting. Can anyone see any solution to this problem? Perhaps it's possible to specify that for some assemblies a different version of a referenced assembly should be used?

  • CultureInfo on a IValueConverter implementation

    When a ValueConverter is used as part of a binding, one of the parameters to the Convert function is a System.Globalization.CultureInfo object. Can anyone tell me where this culture object gets its info from? I have some code that formats a date based on that culture. When i access my silverlight control which is hosted on my machine, it formats the date correctly (using the d/MM/yyyy format, which is set as the short date format on my machine). When i access the same control hosted on a different server (from my client machine), the date is being formatted as MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss - which is totally wrong. Coincidentally the regional settings on the server are set to the same as my client machine. This is the code for my value converter: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (value is DateTime) { if (parameter != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(parameter.ToString())) return ((DateTime)value).ToString(parameter.ToString()); else return ((DateTime)value).ToString(culture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern); } return value; } basically, a specific format can be specified as the converter parameter, but if it isn't then the short date pattern of the culture object is used.

    I am using SmartGWT and I have a ListGrid populated with an array of ListGridRecords using the setData() call. I am trying to update a progress property of a single record (on a timer for testing) and have it update in the browser. I have tried various combinations of draw(), redraw(), markForRedraw() etc. to no avail. I also tried overriding the updateRecordComponent() method in my table class, but it only gets called when the records are first created (after createRecordComponent()). I should note that I do NOT want to accomplish this by binding to a DataSource. I just want to be able to update the attribute on the client-side.   • WPF touch and slide/drag animation

    I'm trying to create a pretty simple WPF interface, and from what I know this should be mostly possible using pure XAML. What I know I have a pretty basic understanding of WPF so far, however I have a decent grasp on XAML. I know or can work out how to put content in these panels. This isn't the topic of this question. What I don't know I don't know how to animate this interface. I'm not very proficient at binding, however again, that's not the topic of this question. The topic of this question is what would be the best way to animate panels 1-4 (images below) so that they may be dragged (via touch) into view. The number of panels here may be static for the purpose of this question. The panels (1-4) can be stack panels, grids or whatever; their content isnt important. What is important is the container that would contain all 4 panels. The complication in this animation is the other two containers here (Item One/TODO), as they're in the way of a smooth animation. If it makes this question simpler, the touch features can be ignored for now, and a simple button push can slide the containers across. One Two

  • Handle exceptions with WPF and MVVM

    I am attempting to build an application using WPF and the MVVM pattern. I have my Views being populated from my ViewModel purely through databinding. I want to have a central place to handle all exceptions which occur in my application so I can notify the user and log the error appropriately. I know about Dispatcher.UnhandledException but this does not do the job as exception that occur during databinding are logged to the output windows. Because my View is databound to my ViewModel the entire application is pretty much controlled via databinding so I have no way to log my errors. Is there a way to generically handle the exceptions raised during databinding, without having to put try blocks around all my ViewModel public's? The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.     HI, I am trying to call a method defined in flash object from javascript (firefox-3.0/Linux) and getting the exception: "NPMethod called on non- NPObject wrapped JSObject". If I use eval on window.document.flash_object.func() it throws "NPMethod called on non-NPObject wrapped JSObject". Where as, if I define a javascript function in side the page as given below: function myFunc() { return flash_object.func(); } and later do a eval of window.document.myFunc() it works fine. I am running the two evals through a test framework called Selenium. [eval(window.document.flash_object.func()) and eval(window.document.myFunc())]. The issues seems to be issue with invoking the flash-object method without passing 'this' reference.   • How to disable authentication schemes for WCF Data Services

    When I deployed my WCF Data Services to production hosting I started to get the following error (or similar depending on which auth schemes are active): IIS specified authentication schemes 'Basic, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used. Apparently WCF Data Services (WCF in general?) cannot handle having more than once authentication scheme active. OK so I am aware that I can disable all-but-one authentication scheme on the web application via IIS control panel .... via a support request!! Is there a way to specify a single authentication scheme on a per-service level in the web.config? I thought this might be as straight forward as making a change to <system.serviceModel> but... it turns out that WCF Data Services do not configure themselves in the web config. If you look at the DataService<> class it does not implement a [ServiceContract] hence you cannot refer to it in the <service><endpoint>...which I presume would be needed for changing its configuration via XML. P.S. Our host is using II6, but both solutions for IIS6 & IIS7 appreciated.

  • Invoking WCF functions using Reflection

    I am pretty new to WCF applications. I have a WCF application that is using NetTcpBinding. I wanted to invoke the functions in WCF service using the System.Reflection's Methodbase Invoke method. I mean I wanted to Dynamically call the Function by passing the String as the Function name. Reflection works great for Web Service or a Windows application or any dll or class. So their is certain way to do this for WCF also but I am not able to find that. I am getting the Assembly Name than it's type everything fine but as we cannot create an instance of the Interface class I tried to open the WCF connection using the binding and tried to pass that object but it's throwing the exception as : "Object does not match target type." I have opened the connection and passed the object and type is of interface only. I don't know whether I'm trying wrong thing or in wrong way. Any idea how shall I accomplish this??? The NetTCPBinding all are properly given while opening the connection. And one more thing I am using WCF as a Windows Service using NETTCPBinding.

    Hi, We have a web application, running in an application pool as 'NETWORK SERVICE'. The web application connects to a service (.svc) on another web server. The other web server also has the service hosted as 'NETWORK SERVICE'. I believe this is the default. System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException: The identity check failed for the outgoing message. The expected identity is 'identity(http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/right/possessproperty: http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/upn)' for the 'http://server123/UnitTrustService/UnitTrustService.svc' target endpoint. If the model has the [Required] attribute set, I want that to invalidate if the default option is selected.     Has anybody had any recent success with accessing the Crowd SOAP API via the Suds Python library? I've found a few people successfully doing it in the past but Atlassian seems to have changed their WSDL since then to make the existing advice not entirely helpful.
