• Does SetFileBandwidthReservation affect memory-mapped file performance?

  Does this function affect Memory-mapped file performance? Here's the problem I need to solve: I have two applications competing for disk access: "reader" and "updater". Whole system runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 "Updater" constantly accesses disk in a linear manner, updating data. They system is set up in such a way that updater always has infinite data to update. Consider that it is constantly approximating a solution of a huge set of equations that takes up entire 2TB disk drive. Updater uses ReadFile and WriteFile to process data in a linear fashion. "Reader" is occasionally invoked by user to get some pieces of data. Usually user would read several 4kb blocks from the drive and stop. Occasionally user needs to read up to 100mb sequentially. In exceptional cases up to several gigabytes. Reader maps files to memory to get data it needs. What I would like to achieve is for "reader" to have absolute priority so that "updater" would completely stop if needed so that "reader" could get the data user needs ASAP. Is this problem solvable by using SetPriorityClass and SetFileBandwidthReservation calls? I would really hate to put synchronization login in "reader" and "updater" and rather have the OS take care of priorities.

• JOGL: cannot run java on compiled class file

  I am running ubuntu Linux 11.10. I have followed the instructions on the site http://jogamp.org/jogl/www/ and downloaded everything with git to $HOME/jogamp and built everything with ant (although I would have prefered the files installed somewhere under /usr/local). I am trying to run a simple application with JOGL found on the Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_OpenGL In order to compile the file I had to add: export CLASSPATH.:$HOME/jogamp/jogl/build/jogl/classes in order to compile the code.   I've written a program that edits a specific filetype , and I want to give the user the option to set my application as the default editor for this filetype (since I don't want an installer) on startup. • SharePoint randomly replacing file names in web parts?

  Ok SharePoint is driving me crazy and I need to see if anyone has encountered a similar problem or knows of a solution: I have a content editor webpart with some HTML including links to PDF files that I've modified slightly to append an employee number querystring ie: <a href="http://moss.company.com/group/home/EPermits /Blank%20Form%20Templates/_blank_breach_permit.pdf?empNum=">New Breach Permit</a> And SharePoint seems to randomly replace the filename with aab04168 or some other similar characters: <a href="http://moss.company.com/group/home/EPermits /Blank%20Form%20Templates/aab04168?empNum=">New Breach Permit</a> After this happened a few times with no explanation I tried changing the content editor webpart to look directly at a documentLinks.html file located in the Shared Documents folder of the SharePoint site and guess what... SharePoint edited that document and replaced my filenames with random characters in there too! Figuring that filenames beginning with an underscore could be triggering some internal SharePoint procedures I've renamed all the files to remove the starting underscore--unfortunately the problem isn't immediately reproducible and I'm waiting right now to see if I run into any more trouble. edit: the underscore in the filename didn't help... my documentLinks.html wound up getting modified and all the hrefs were replaced with random characters again.   Dear all. I want to write an enterprise software and now I'm in the DB design phase. The software will have some master data such as Suppliers, Customers, Inventories, Bankers... I considering 2 options: Put each of these on one separate table. The advantage: the table will have all necessary information for that kind of master file (Customer: name, address,.../Inventory: Type, Manufacturer, Condition...). Disadvantage: Not flexible. When I want to have a new type of master data, such as Insurer, I have to design another table. Put all in one table and this table have foreign key to another table which have type of each kind of master data (table 1: id, data_type, code, name, address....; table 2: data_type, data_type_name). Advantage: flexible - if I want more master data such as Insurer, I just put in table 2: code: 002, name: Insurer, and then put detail each insurer into table 1). Disadvantage: table 1 must have sufficient field to store all kind of information including: customer name, address, account, inventory's manufacturer, inventory's quality...). • XML-RPC over SSL with Ruby: end of file reached (EOFError)

  Hello, I have some very simple Ruby code that is attempting to do XML-RPC over SSL: require 'xmlrpc/client' require 'pp' server = XMLRPC::Client.new2("https://%s:%d/" % [ 'api.ultradns.net', 8755 ]) pp server.call2('UDNS_OpenConnection', 'sponsor', 'username', 'password') The problem is that it always results in the following EOFError exception: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/protocol.rb:135:in `sysread': end of file reached (EOFError) So it appears that after doing the POST, I don't get anything back. Interestingly, this is the behavior I would expect if I tried to make an HTTP connection on the HTTPS port (or visa versa), and I actually do get the same exact exception if I change the protocol. Everything I've looked at indicates that using "https://" in the URL is enough to enable SSL, but I'm starting wonder if I've missed something. Note that Even though the credentials I'm using in the RPC are made up, I'm expecting to at least get back an XML error page (similar to if you access https://api.ultradns.net:8755/ with a web browser). I've tried running this code on OSX and Linux with the exact same result, so I have to conclude that I'm just doing something wrong here. Does anyone have any examples of doing XML-RPC over SSL with Ruby?

I need to be able to extract them (well, echo them with some mods) based on the line number because this batch script is being called by an iterative macro process. Not as simple as one might think. I've noticed that my counter is staying at zero for some reason; I'm wondering if the "set /a counter+=1" is doing what I think it's doing.

• Encrypt a file base upon a pregenerated "key" C#

  Hello everyone. I'm trying to determine the best course of action to implement a simple "licensing" system with a partner of mine. The concept is: Generate an encrypted value based upon several internal hardware components. Have the customer send this value to us which we will implement into our key generator. Once we have that, we add any other restrictions on the license (user, expires, etc.). From there we generate a file which we send to the customer they can add to their installation and voila, happy people about. I have the first part all done. My next part is trying to figure out which encryption methodology I would need to use. I already know Symmetric Encryption is pretty much the only route I can take. Most of the information I have found involves .NET already creating a key from its own internal methods. That's a bit of background, my question is: "Which encryption method could I use which would allow me to encrypt the restrictions based upon the "id" I was given from the customer's computer?" I'm writing this in C# by the way. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Take Care!

• SVN marking file production ready

  I am kind of new to SVN, I haven't used it in detail basically just checking out trunk and committing then exporting and deploying. I am working on a big project now with several developers and we are looking for the best deployment process. The one thing we are hung up on is the best way to tag, branch and so on. We are used to CVS where all you have to do is commit a file and tag it as production ready and if not that code will not get deployed. I see that SVN handles tagging differently then CVS. I figure I am looking at this and making it overly complex. It seems the only way to work on a project and commit files without it being in the production code is to do it in a branch and then merge those changes when you are ready for it to be deployed. I am assuming you could also be working on other code that should be deployed so you would have to be switching between working copies, because otherwise you are working on a branch that isn't getting mixed in with the trunk or production branch? This process seems overly complex and I was wondering if anyone could give me what you think is the best process for managing this.

• Vim hanging after parsing .vimrc (even a blank one) file on Solaris 10

  Hello all, I am having a problem with vim 7.2 hanging (for about 10 seconds) after it parses the .vimrc file. I had a similar issue in the past with tcsh on linux, but it was resolved by setting TERM to xterm-color. The same does not resolve the issue here. • Write contents of custom View to large Image file on SD card

  I have a class that extends View. I override the onDraw method and allow the user to draw on the screen. I am at the point where I want to save this view as an image. I Can use buildDrawingCache and getDrawingCache to create a bitmap that I can write to the SD card. However, the image is not good quality at a large size, it has jagged edges. Since I have a View and I use Paths I can transform all by drawing to a bigger size. I just don't know how to make the Canvas bigger so when I call getDrawingCache it doesn't crop all the paths I am just transformed. What is happening is I transform all my paths but when I write the Bitmap to file I am only getting the "viewport" of the actual screen size. I want something much bigger. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading the docs and books and am at a loss. Thanks Jon

Ok from looking at similar problems on the web, people have said to get the onListItemClick() to start a new activity and using that new activity to then open up the new view? • SSH with Perl using file handles, not Net::SSH

  Before I ask the question: I can not use cpan module Net::SSH, I want to but can not, no amount of begging will change this fact I need to be able to open an SSH connection, keep it open, and read from it's stdout and write to its stdin. My approach thus far has been to open it in a pipe, but I have not been able to advance past this, it dies straight away. That's what I have in mind, I understand this causes a fork to occur. I've written code accordingly for this fork (or so I think). Basically, I need a file handle to an open ssh connection where I can read from it the output and write to it input (not necessarily straight from my program's STDIN, anything I want, variables, yada yada) This includes password input. I know about key pairs, part of the end goal involves making key pairs, but the connection needs to happen regardless of their existence, and if they do not exist it's part of my plan to make them exist.

• Java Regex for matching hexadecimal numbers in a file

  So I'm reading in a file (like java program < trace.dat) which looks something like this: 58 68 58 68 40 c 40 48 FA If I'm lucky but more often it has several whitespace characters before and after each line. These are hexadecimal addresses that I'm parsing and I basically need to make sure that I can get the line using a scanner, buffered reader... whatever and make sure I can then convert the hexadecimal to an integer. So I've traced all my errors to parsing input and stuff so I guess I'm just trying to figure out what regex or approach I need to get this working the way I want.

• "Access is denied" by executing .hta file with JScript on Windows XP x64

  I have a simple HTML (as HTA) application that shows strange behavior on Windows XP x64 machine. I getting periodically (not every time) error message "Access is denied." when i start the application. The same application on Windows XP 32bit runs just fine... Does somebody has any idea or explanation? Error message: Line: 18 Char: 6 Error: Access is denied. • Why does File.Exists return false?

Why does the compiler complain about multiple definition ? My header file is guarded (with #define COMPLEX_H). And, if complaining about the operator<< fonction, why not complain about the public real() fonction, which is defined in the header as well ? And is there another solution as using the inline keyword ?

• Preventing a heavy process from sinking in the swap file

  Our service tends to fall asleep during the nights on our client's server, and then have a hard time waking up. What seems to happen is that the process heap, which is sometimes several hundreds of MB, is moved to the swap file. This happens at night, when our service is not used, and others are scheduled to run (DB backups, AV scans etc). When this happens, after a few hours of inactivity the first call to the service takes up to a few minutes (consequent calls take seconds). I'm quite certain it's an issue of virtual memory management, and I really hate the idea of forcing the OS to keep our service in the physical memory. I know doing that will hurt other processes on the server, and decrease the overall server throughput. Having that said, our clients just want our app to be responsive. They don't care if nightly jobs take longer. I vaguely remember there's a way to force Windows to keep pages on the physical memory, but I really hate that idea. I'm leaning more towards some internal or external watchdog that will initiate higher-level functionalities (there is already some internal scheduler that does very little, and makes no difference). If there were a 3rd party tool that provided that kind of service is would have been just as good. I'd love to hear any comments, recommendations and common solutions to this kind of problem. The service is written in VC2005 and runs on Windows servers.
